MEDIA STATEMENT [Wednesday 10th of January 2018] TREATY CONCLUSION WILL BENEFIT ALL AUSTRALIANS The Sovereign Yidindji Government has delivered a win-win treaty offer that will not only benefit all Australians, but provide the Commonwealth of Australia with a secure platform to conduct business with confidence on the Yidindji territory. On the 17th day of August 2017, the official treaty offer documents were received by Senior Cabinet Minister Nigel Scullion , acting for and on behalf of the Commonwealth of Australia, from the Sovereign Yidindji Government delegation. “Without a doubt, make no mistake the Yidindji tribe is Australia’s best friend, we have passed several laws in the Yidindji parliament that are designed to protect the Commonwealth of Australia. Our intention is very clear from our point of view. What we now require is an official response to our offer of a treaty from the Commonwealth of Australia.” said acting Chief Minister Gaan-Yarra of Yalmabara. The Sovereign Yidindji Government has made its offer so Australia can demonstrate to the world its commitment to the international norms of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. “We see our offer as a potential blueprint for the government of the Commonwealth of Australia to go forth and successfully conclude treaties with other tribal socieites and their governments who wish to treaty at the Commonwealth level. This can only strengthen Australia’s position on the international level.” said Gaan-Yarra. Member states of the United Nations Security Council have also been informed and updated on the treaty offer developments between the Sovereign Yidindji Government and the government of the Commonwealth of Australia. “We have some exciting proposals to invest heavily in the Yidindji territory, we want to underwrite the Commonwealth of Australia through a formal treaty instrument. We want to grant to the Australian government, the ability to become the sole UN administrator of the Yidindji territory, in order for this to happen, the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull must, in good faith, respond to our offer. To date, this has not happened.” said the acting Chief Minister.
