WORLD’S OLDEST CIVILISATION LAUNCHES CUTTING EDGE BLOCKCHAIN DIGITAL IDENTITY SYSTEM PRESS STATEMENT The Yidindji nation is set to become a global leader by using ground breaking blockchain technology to create secure digital identity for its government departments, services and citizens. Blockchain technology with its decentralised and immutable shared ledger makes it possible to create an identity ecosystem that is scalable and preserves the privacy of individuals and organisations that transact on the shared ledger.

Chief Minister Gudju-Gudju Gimuybara said “We are excited to be at the forefront of creating a secure, privacy protecting identity for our people. The Yidindji men and women have called Gimuy and the Yidindji territory home for thousands of years, but now the Yidindji nation can enter the digital world using a Yidindji identity that is immutably stored using blockchain. This is the first step in creating an ecosystem for our people to relate as the original custodians of the land, with the Commonwealth of Australia, with other first nations people around the world and with the global economy. This is a great day for our nation and citizens, we are making history with every step.” The self-sovereign identity (SSID)was developed with Korea based technology company MetaMUI. The Yidindji-MetaMUI self sovereign identity will not only promote the Yidindji identity, but ensure individual privacy is well protected, that means users can give permission for information to be shared using the Yidindji SSID. The creation of a digital identity will assist the Yidindji nation, the Commonwealth of Australia and global organisations like the United Nations. The UN has supported indigenous self determination, and the Yidindji government believes this technology is a step in the right direction in eliminating the gap resulting from the lack of a treaty. “This self sovereign identity system will take the Yidinji nation to another level of global participation and true inclusion on the international stage. Article 33 of the UN declaration on the rights of Indigenous Peoples clearly states that the UN supports groups like the Yidindji to create their own identities. The Yidindji-MetaMUI solution does just that, the security of identity is extremely important and a solid foundation for our nation. “said Attorney-General, Gaan-Yarra Yalmabara .
