Independence Day Celebrations July 4 starting at 10 am downtown: Independence Day on Nantucket starts with the reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Unitarian Church at Orange Street at 10 am, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and then performances by students from the Nantucket Community Music Center. A "contained water contest" between the Town of Nantucket Fire Department vs the Boynton Lane Reserves will be held at 12 noon. The public is invited to watch the water contest, but in the interest of safety, they will not be participating. Food trucks will be positioned on Federal Street, Sustainable Nantucket’s Farmers & Artisans Market will be open on Cambridge Street, and the Nantucket Island Center for Entrepreneurs will have a showcase in the Atheneum garden on India Street.

These can be quite simple, or equipped with curtains (great for privacy) and flush wallmounted reading lights, which can be individually controlled. “It’s these little touches which make a big difference to peoples’ enjoyment of their vacation homes,” says Polly, who plans to focus her team on more Nantucket projects.

The namesake design firm has been evolving with the ebbs and flows that are constant with the current state and lead times, but that isn’t deterring NLD’s clients from diverting from Nantucket “trends” that most typically see. “A consistent (trend) that I continue to see among all of my clients is that they don’t want to stick with the predicable design that you would typically see. More clients are open to waiting for custom lighting, or diving in and creating millwork designs that are unique. One trend that I am seeing, and happily welcoming, is the use of more color in spaces. Whether it be a bright, fun wallcovering, or pulling a color in a fabric headboard, to paint on the walls, the use of more color is a trend I am embracing with open arms!”
