The prompt behind this work was to create a portrait made entirely out of text. Inspired by the musician Hozier’s poetic songs, I decided to use his song names and lyrics to create this image and convey the power of his words.

I decided to paint this because I found the image both humorous and off-putting, and I wanted viewers to feel both uncomfortable and intrigued at the same time.

For this painting, I was inspired to make something that would catch people off guard in a humorous way, with a similar theme to the previous work.

After asking what her favorite memory from her youth was, She told me that it was the night of her graduation. After a night of celebrating, her class decided to end their festivities by packing a trunk full of sweets, and heading out of their village. They handed out their treats to any passerby heading to work, stopping 3 km outside of their hometown to watch the sunrise over a field. I was inspired by her lovely story to make something for her that would remind her of that memory for years to come.

I painted this self portrait during a really difficult time in my life while I was struggling with my mental health. The work reflects how I felt in my mind and body at the time, and concequently how I looked at myself. This painting served as a tool to visualize the issues I had been struggling with and begin to move past them.

The prompt for this drawing was to create a piece that showed the materials and process of making something. However, I decided that I wanted to focus more on the emotion, care, and love that goes into making something like a gift for a loved one, as I like to give handmade gifts myself, and can relate to this experience.

This was the final project I created for the “Integrated Arts” class, a unique 4 credit arts course that focuses on furthering students’ art and leadership skills. I chose to make my installation about my perception of self, my identity crisis, and anxiety around figuring out who I am before leaving high school. It consists of three animated portraits, each encompassing an aspect of my theme, projected onto three faceless paintings. Originally this was supposed to be presented in an art gala style event at my school, but due to COVID-19 I was forced to set this up in my home and present it virtually in video format.
