Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation gratefully thanks your participation in the 35th Dragon Ball
Together, we’ve raised $900,000
In support of services for seniors and the construction of a new long-term care home
THE GALA
Combining philanthropy with the celebration of Lunar New Year, Dragon Ball has maintained its position as one of Toronto’s most anticipated events and the largest Lunar New Year celebration of its kind in North America for more than three decades.
This year’s Dragon Ball was attended by nearly 1,000 philanthropists and dignitaries, and raised over $900,000 in support of Yee Hong’s senior services and the construction of a new long-term care home. The feedback from guests and supporters has been tremendously great.
“Congratulations on another amazing “Dragon Ball” at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre…This has been our 15th year as your Official Exclusive Radio Sponsor. You do a great job in our city.”
Chris Randall, The New Classical 96.3 FM
While we welcome the Year of the Dragon, a symbol of power, strength, and good luck in Chinese culture, Yee
Hong is also celebrating its 35 years of commitment to seniors and achievements. Since its doors first opened in 1994, Yee Hong has been a leader and innovator in senior care, now serving more than 15,000 clients annually across the Greater Toronto Area. Now it has four long-term care centres, the first residential hospice in Scarborough, and a range of home and community care services that cater to the Chinese, South Asian, Filipino, and Japanese communities.
Yee Hong is constantly striving to expand the range of high-quality, culturally-appropriate services to meet the needs of our seniors. The ground was broken last November for our fifth long-term care home, the Yee Hong Ng Siu Chan Centre. This project is expected to be completed by 2026 and will add 224 new beds for seniors in need.
All of this is made possible through the generous support of our sponsors and donors like you. Thank you for making a difference.

MESSAGE FROM DR. JOSEPH WONG
Yee Hong Founder Chair of Yee Hong Foundation
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Welcome to Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation’s Dragon Ball 2024! I am delighted to join you on this special occasion, as we celebrate the Lunar New Year in 2024 and the arrival of the Year of the Dragon.
The dragon is a symbol of power, strength, and good luck in Chinese culture. It is also a fitting representation of Yee Hong’s vision and mission: to empower seniors and their families to live with dignity and joy, and to provide culturally appropriate and holistic care that meets their diverse needs.
For over three decades, Yee Hong has been a leader and innovator in senior care, serving more than 15,000 clients annually across the Greater Toronto Area. We have four long term care homes, six community wellness centres, the first residential hospice in Scarborough, and a range of home and community care services that cater to the Chinese, South Asian, Filipino, and Japanese communities.
We are constantly striving to improve and expand our services, to meet the growing and changing demands of our aging population. That is why we launched the Love Gives Capital Campaign, an $80 million fundraising initiative to support the construction of the Yee Hong Ng Siu Chan Centre, our new long-term care home in Scarborough.
I am thrilled to share with you that we have recently broken ground for this project, which will add 224 beds
to our long-term care capacity and create a state-ofthe-art facility that will offer specialized programs for dementia, mental health, and palliative care. This project is expected to be completed by 2026 and will benefit thousands of seniors and their families for years to come.
But we cannot do this alone. We need your help and generosity to make this dream a reality. Together, we can build a better and brighter future for our seniors and honour their contributions to our society. Together, we can embody the spirit of the dragon, and bring good luck and blessings to our community.
Though Yee Hong is a product of thousands of donors, supporters, staff and volunteers, few were as significant as our first CEO, Florence Wong. Her outsized influence cannot be understated as she guided Yee Hong’s growth into a shining, exemplary model of senior care. Sadly, Florence succumbed to cancer last month at Yee Hong Peter K. Kwok Hospice.
Tonight, I invite you to join us in supporting the Love Gives Capital Campaign and making a difference in the lives of our seniors, just as Florence Wong did for nearly 18 years. Every gift matters.
Thank you for your support, and Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Joseph Wong Founder and Chair, Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation
MESSAGES FROM HONORARY PATRONS
Helen Ching-Kircher
Today we are absolutely delighted to celebrate the journey Yee Hong started 35 years ago. It is a blessing to witness their growth and development over the years and to know how much they have done to better the lives of many seniors, not only in the Chinese community but also other Asian ethnic groups.
I am hugely impressed by the work and achievements of Yee Hong in the decades since we first became supporters at HCK-DFC Auto Group Audi Uptown, and so pleased and proud to be an Honorary Patron of the Dragon Ball, the most important fundraising event of such a successful and dedicated senior care organization.
With your active and generous support, Yee Hong will continue to thrive and prosper so that more seniors can lead a fuller life that we all want to see.
Jim Ritchie
Tridel, one of Canada’s leading homebuilders, is celebrating 90 years of commitment to excellence, innovation, and family values. It brings me great joy to serve as an Honorary Patron of the Dragon Ball once again. With over three decades of unwavering commitment to Yee Hong, we carry legacies that mirror our dedication to building communities, providing homes, and ensuring an exceptional quality of life.
The success of the Dragon Ball hinges on the collective engagement of all. I urge everyone to spread the word and contribute to making this event a success. A heartfelt thank you to all the donors, sponsors, and volunteers whose invaluable efforts make the Dragon Ball a reality. The funds raised during this gala are essential in supporting Yee Hong’s culturally and linguistically appropriate services for seniors. Let’s continue to open our hearts and stand together in support of Yee Hong to ensure our seniors enjoy the best during their golden years.
We change life trajectories through education for generational impact in the global community.

I look forward to the completion of the Yee Hong Ng Siu Chan Centre, our 5th long-term care home, which commenced construction in late November last year, adding an additional 224 beds to accommodate and care for more seniors.”
Shouyi Ma
“A heritage of quality care and service to the seniors is rooted in the Yee Hong family. We are here to continue building on the foundations that Yee Hong has laid over the last 35 years. To all supporters and sponsors, we value you, you have made an incredible difference in the lives of our seniors.”
Lenny Wong
“What Yee Hong has achieved in the past 35 years is truly remarkable. It is a living model to engage younger generations in caregiving. There are many opportunities for them to continue Yee Hong’s legacy in new ways with their talents and strengths to do more for our seniors. I am honoured that my daughter Caitlin also plays a part in this year’s Dragon Ball.”
Kenny Wan
“Investing in seniors with our collaborative efforts does every good to our community. I totally share Yee Hong’s vision in providing a full spectrum of quality and culturally appropriate services to enable seniors to live their lives to the fullest – in the healthiest, most independent and dignified ways.”

THE FOUNDATION AS AN IMPORTANT MEMBER OF YEE HONG FAMILY
Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation is an integral part of the Yee Hong family. Our mission to raise funds and manage communications for our sister Yee Hong organizations has not changed since our inception in 1987, though the scale of our work has.
While the long-term care services of Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care have always been our primary beneficiary, we have added numerous others in recent years, including Yee Hong’s Community and Professional Services, Yee Hong Peter K Kwok Hospice, and more. The Foundation’s success IS Yee Hong’s success.
As we embark on our largest and most ambitious Love Gives Capital Campaign ever, Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation will continue to follow accepted best practices for charitable fundraising work, including being a legally distinct organization from the caregiving side. This allows us to have a dedicated board that is focused specifically on our mission to raise money for Yee Hong.
CONSTRUCTION OF YEE HONG NG SIU CHAN CENTRE IN SCARBOROUGH IS UNDERWAY
Construction started on the fifth Yee Hong long-term care home in December 2023 at our Finch Campus, between Yee Hong Garden Terrace and our existing Scarborough-Finch Centre. The new facility will be named Yee Hong Ng Siu Chan Centre 頤康伍兆燦中心, in recognition of the generous inaugural donation of $5 million from Wu Si Chong Foundation of Hong Kong. Construction is expected to be completed in approximately three years.
The new Centre will be a 5-storey building with 224 long-term care beds, including 50% private rooms, 40% basic accommodation, and 10% semi-private rooms. It will also include space for community programs on the ground floor and one floor of underground parking. The facility’s design is informed by learnings from the pandemic and provides residents with privacy while limiting the spread of outbreaks.
Together with our four existing nursing homes, Yee Hong will have over 1,000 long-term care beds to serve the seniors in our community.
“Today marks a pivotal moment in Yee Hong’s commitment to culturally appropriate longterm care and our unwavering support for our community’s elders. As we break ground on the new Yee Hong Ng Siu Chan Centre, we sow the seeds of a nurturing environment where compassion, dignity and respect will bloom and blossom. It is a shining example of how our government–community partnership works to benefit our seniors, and a testament to the passion and dedication of our donors, sponsors, staff and supporters to enriching the lives of those who have paved the way for us.”
