KINETIC ART

Magnetic Art Between the Genders

Topic : Self-Identity, Gender stereotypes Fields : Visual Art, Performaning art, Science The issue of gender is a tricky and concerned topic to my work and also to the students. The story is motivated by reading the article -The Daughter of Gambia River(written by Mantra, published on Southern Weekly). The story described the ceremony (initiation)of Gambian women. The daughter of Gambia River should experience female circumcision according to the traditional ritual, to become a real woman. I used and shared the dismantling and restructuring toys, trying to reconstructing toys into radial abstract vocabularies through a surrealistic manner. Then, we created mind maps to explore students’ imagination of children’s favorite toys and daily products from the Korean artist’s two photography, which had clear images of gender stereotype. We told about the story and linked to the famous movie- The Danish girl, which described the Danish artist how to face the first transgender in the history. After the group discussion and presentation, students started to create their gender projects with mixed faces and metaphor color and shapes. Then, we tried to create the kinetic sculptures and used the colorful spot light to perform the image between the genders. In final presentation, students also created their own stories and texts that reflected to the Danish artist and themselves.

Students uesd mind maps to analyze gender stereotypes from the Korean artists works.

BETWEEN THE VIRTUAL AND REALITY

3RAR, VR and MR

Thee was a workshop at Huashan Creative Park, where thrived as a wine factory in 1914 and was abandoned to falter into ruins in Taipei. The participators came from the community with different ages to experience 3R(AR,VR and MR). The workshop first introduced the historical events and geographic locations. Afterwares students figured out the historical decorations and aesthetic structures of this reused buildings, and we utilized AR (Augmented Reality) and MR (Mix Reality) to traced back to the past. Finally, students created their 3D mode characters and made stories in the virtual Huashan Creative Park with VR(Virtual reality ). The combination with historical sites and using new technology represent new perspectives of this histroical place.

After 3D scanned with Qlone, students made 3D characters and Augmented into Reality.

ART AND AESTHETIC

FOOD Art

The inspiration came from a Taiwanese artist, San Chen, who created colored race balls like the universe as the interactive taste. With this idea in mind, the transdisciplinary courses tried to mix with TADITIONAL Taiwanese rice balls and Japanese food decoration. First, students learned the daily proportion of nutrition in Health class. Second, students analyzed the food color, using origami dishes to test mathematic structure and taking photography in Visual Art class. Finally, students cooked and decorated their distinctive rice balls in Home Economic class. As the rice balls finished, they used color tickets to write and describe the taste in Literature class. The key-competencies consist of health knowledge, art and aesthetic, maker by group cooperation, problem solving and thesis of food saving. ART AND AESTHETIC

Bridge Art

Students first appreciated and told stories about the famous Chinese ink painting ‘Along the River During the Qingming Festival’ by using digital picture book. Trace back to the Northern Song Dynasty, the ancient people created the astonished techniques to build the arch bridge without engineering. Furthermore, students used the methanic theories and methods to create their bridges from brainstorming in groups, understanding the stronger structure from a regular aesthetics. Finally, they reflected to observe real bridges in our society and designed a future bridge to our sustainable environment. CALLIGRAPHY

Water Writing Calligraphy

The following exercises emerge from the ancient technique of Chinese calligraphy and ink painting, but instead of ink we used water-writing textile. Water-writing textile is a calligraphy practice material, a special kind of textile that turns black in contact with water. When the textile has dried in about 5 minutes the drawing disappears and it can be reused. The large format canvases made students push the limits of their former experience of drawing in small notebooks. This larger format requires larger gestures that border on dance, and calls for a whole different relation between themselves, the model and the painting. Students learned new ways to write and paint. In this class, students extended their whole bodys to draw and write without any limitation. Class : 7th grade Cooperation with Taiwanese calligraphy artists and Japanese artists from exhibitions. Material : water writing textiles, brushes, water

Cyborg Tarot

This is an interactive work in the form of a physical tarot card deck and a website. It mixes religious symbols, online divination and mythical stories for the digital native. Website visitors would fill in a questionnaire and get their fortune told through the animated tarot cards. The motifs of the cards touch the boundary between physical and virtual reality, as well as that of the human body and the technical device in an age where devices for digital information has become such an integrated part of our being that they are more to be looked at as “digital prostheses”.

Gender Stereotype

88

The intention of my work is motivated by reading the article “The Daughter of Gambia River” (written by Mantra, published on Southern Weekly). The story described the ‘coming of age ceremony (initiation)’ of Gambian women. The daughter of Gambia River should experience female circumcision according to the traditional ritual, to become a “real woman”. This kind of way of “becoming woman” that filled with sex discrimination in traditional village or classical definition. Women’s destiny had been decided unfairly by ingrained custom.

The construct of “girl” appears continuously, the dismantling and restructuring toys and the women being watched from classical paintings, trying to reconstructing toys into radial abstract vocabularies through a surrealistic manner. The veiled violence and abstract language hiding behind beautiful paintings, describing the “sex discrimination” that tied by existing concepts.

In this work I continued the topic of the former work inspired by the article “Daughters of Gambia”. Gender stereotypes largely affect the policies and attitudes being established in children’s behaviors and values. In contrast to the beautiful and colorful images present, there are droplets of blood and symbols of separation and dismemberment.
