THE NARRATIVE STORYLINE OF THE WAR
1937.10.27 Makeshift defenses were constructed from sandbags and other merchandise stocked within the warehouse.
1937.10.28 The Japanese used artillery attacks, riddling the western wall of the warehouse with countless bullet holes.
1937.10.29 After the enemy's failed attack, the soldiers began using excavators to dig tunnels towards the Warehouse.
1937.10.30-1937.11.1 At the cost of 37 casualties, the military killed more than 200 enemies, and the remaining soldiers withdrew entirely.
EXTRACTION OF DESIGN ELEMENTS
FORMATION PROCESS
The Joint Savings Bank Warehouse was once an important battleground during the resistance war, and the design inspiration comes from the common trenches seen in warfare.
Forming the main passage by connecting the main entrances of the site and the building. Employing abstract methods to incorporate elements from war into the design—utilizing the terrain to shape trenches as the main pathway, transforming sandbags into cobblestones, and converting soldiers' formations into tree arrays.
STEP 1:
STEP 2:
STEP 3:
The current condition of the site is a flat square.
Plan channels based on the main entrances and exits for the crowd.
Design elevated terrain to guide people's gaze toward the walls.
STEP 4:
STEP 5:
STEP 6:
Plan channels perpendicular to the main road to ensure connectivity.
Establish varied topography to enhance the diversity of activities on the site.
Imitate the stacking form of sandbags to create stone benches for people to rest.
STEP 7:
STEP 8:
STEP 9:
Design an earth-covered ticket booth to maintain the integrity of the site.
Simulate the positions of soldiers in the site.
Transform design elements of soldiers into trees.

THE ENGAGEMENT
Re-definition of HUANGPU RIVER Landscape Huangpu River, Shanghai, China
In my design project for the transformation of the Huangpu River Shipyard in Shanghai, I bridged the gap between the city and urban parks by incorporating public spaces in the park that resonate with urban activities. Additionally, by designing variations in the terrain and creating interactive waterfront spaces, I have stitched together the boundary between the site and the waterfront, fostering engaging activities for people by the water.

THE CONNECTION IS WEAK
- The park is seen as a microcosm of the natural landscape, and there is no connection between the city and the park. - The hard revetment prevents the river water from being properly used for crowd activities. residental area

Horizontal Obstacle
There is a wide road running between the park and the city. What's more, the activities in the park and the city are not connected.
Vertical Obstacle
The elevation difference between the site and the Huangpu River is extremely high. Because of the hard barge, the waterfront activities become difficult.

THE GREEN EDGE
The exploration of the ecological edge of Charlotte harbor Charlotte Harbor, Florida, America
In the project at Charlotte Harbor, I filled the gaps in the mangrove forests left vacant by human boating activities through landform reshaping and planting of mangroves. The landform and mangroves not only improved the site's ecology, reducing the impact of hurricanes on residential areas, but also created a habitat for oyster cultivation.

Design Process The design site is a shoal by the sea. Due to the lack of terrain obstruction, residential areas suffered severe hurricane damage. To reduce future losses, the design set up a terrain reduce the waves. The water level of the tides varies as time changes. The lower dike was flooded most of the time to make it available for boats. The taller islands are exposed most of the time for mangroves to grow. Also, the design set up oyster farming sites on the island, through which residents can earn income.

OFFSHORE ISLAND
The 3rd terrain is close to residential areas. The waves are reduced due to the levees and the mangrove forest in the first and second sections. So people in the third section are relatively safe. Therefore, in the third terrain, the crowd activities are mainly swimming and some water ball games.

The 1st terrain is often at risk during the flood season, especially when facing hurricans. The boats are barely functional and the crowd activities could hardly be carried out.
