About the Performers Ashley Solomon and Terence Charlston first met as students at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In 1991, shortly after completing their postgraduate studies, they won first prize in the Moeck International Recorder Competition, resulting in a solo debut recital at London’s Wigmore Hall. Following this performance, they were offered a recording contract with the English label Meridian and released a CD of Italian flute and recorder music, Il Flauto Dolce, in 1994. 1999 saw their first collaboration with the Dutch label Channel Classics in a volume entitled Flute Sonatas by J.S. Bach, which was selected as one of Gramophone’s favorite CDs for 2001. Following the success of this recording, Volume 2 was released in 2002 to worldwide critical acclaim. As a duo, they have performed all over the United Kingdom and have given concerts and masterclasses in the Eastern United States and Austria. In addition to working as a duo, they have gained international reputations as soloists and members of chamber ensembles. Both are core members of Florilegium, the London-based ensemble which Solomon cofounded in 1991. Terence has been the harpsichordist with a number of groups, notably London Baroque, from 1995-2007. Together with these ensembles they have made numerous CDs and given performances at some of the most presitgious UK and international festivals and venues. Solomon and Charlston are both notable educators in the early music field. In 1995, Terence became the first Head of Historical Performance at the Royal Academy of Music, and in 2007, he was appointed professor of harpsichord at the Royal College of Music. Ashley was appointed professor at the Royal College of Music in 1994 and became the first Head of Historical Performance there in 2006.
