Hailed by The New York Times as “striking and resourceful… handsomely brooding,” Hannah Lash’s music has been performed at such major venues as Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, TheTimesCenter in Manhattan, the Art Institute of Chicago, Tanglewood Music Center, and Aspen Music Festival & School, among others. In 2016, Lash was honored with a Composer Portrait Concert at Columbia University’s Miller Theatre that included commissioned works for pianist Lisa Moore (Six Etudes and a Dream) and loadbang (Music for Eight Lungs). In the 2017-2018 season, Lash’s Piano Concerto No. 1, “In Pursuit of Flying,” was given its premiere performances by Jeremy Denk and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra; the Atlantic Classical Orchestra debuted Facets of Motion for orchestra; and Music for Nine, Ringing was performed at the Music Academy of the West School and Festival. Next season, Paul Appleby and Natalia Katyukova will give the premiere of Songs of Imagined Love, a song-cycle commissioned by Carnegie Hall. Lash is currently developing a new chamber opera and a concerto for two harps and orchestra, both of which are scheduled for premiere in 2019.
New York City-based new music chamber group loadbang is building a new kind of music for mixed ensemble of trumpet, trombone, bass clarinet, and baritone voice. Since their founding in 2008, they have been praised as “cultivated” by The New Yorker, “an extra-cool new music group” and “exhilarating” by the Baltimore Sun, “inventive” by the New York Times and called a “formidable new-music force” by TimeOutNY. Creating “a sonic world unlike any other” (The Boston Musical Intelligencer), their unique lung-powered instrumentation has provoked diverse responses from composers, resulting in a repertoire comprising an inclusive picture of composition today. In New York City, they have been recently presented by and performed at Miller Theater, Symphony Space, MATA, and the Look and Listen Festival; on American tours at Da Camera of Houston, Rothko Chapel, and the Festival of New American Music at Sacramento State University; and internationally at Ostrava Days (Czech Republic), China-ASEAN Music Week (China), and Shanghai Symphony Hall (China). loadbang has premiered more than 300 works, written by members of the ensemble, emerging artists, and today’s leading composers. Their repertoire includes works by Pulitzer Prize winners David Lang and Charles Wuorinen; Rome Prize winners Andy Akiho and Paula Matthusen; and Guggenheim Fellows Chaya Czernowin, George Lewis, and Alex Mincek. They are an ensemblein-residence at the Charlotte New Music Festival, and through a partnership with the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Boston, they are on the performance
Lash obtained her doctor of philosphy degree in composition from Harvard University in 2010, and her artist diploma from Yale School of Music in 2012. She has held teaching positions at Harvard University (Teaching Fellow) and at Alfred University (Guest Professor of Composition), and currently serves on the composition faculty at Yale School of Music.

Luke Leonard, stage director Luke Leonard is an American artist whose work spans the performing and visual arts. Best known as a director and designer of multidisciplinary theater and contemporary opera, he is also an actor, playwright, visual artist, teacher, and the Founding Artistic Director of New York nonprofit theater company Monk Parrots, known for its diverse repertoire of concept-driven original productions. The New York Times describes Luke’s critically acclaimed work as “outstanding”. His stage productions, designs, and visual artworks have been presented in Australia, Italy, New Mexico, New York, and Texas. Creative Engagement, Tides Foundation, Manhattan Community Arts Fund, Hatch Fund, Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant, USA Projects, and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Swing Space Artist Residencies have supported Luke Leonard/Monk Parrots. Luke holds a master of fine arts degree from The University of Texas at Austin and lives in New York City.
The Shepherdess and the Chimney Sweep is a chamber opera by Hannah Lash based on a story by Hans Christian Anderson.
