Aaron Jay Kernis, composer

Aaron Jay Kernis won the coveted 2012 Nemmers Prize and the 2002 Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition and is one of the youngest composers ever awarded the Pulitzer Prize. He is Professor (adjunct) of Composition at the Yale School of Music.

Kernis has received the Stoeger Prize from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the Rome Prize, and he received Grammy nominations for Air and his Second Symphony. In 2011 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

David Lang, composer The music of David Lang has been performed by major musical, dance, and theatrical organizations throughout the world and in the most renowned concert halls and festivals in the United States and Europe. Lang is Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of New York’s legendary music festival Bang on a Can. Lang was Musical America’s Composer of the Year for 2013 and held Carnegie Hall’s Richard and Barbara Debs Chair in Composition for the 2013–2014 season. He holds degrees from Stanford University and the University of Iowa and in 1989 received a doctor of musical arts degree from the Yale School of Music, where he has been on faculty since 2008. » davidlangmusic.com

Artist Profiles Sirena Huang, violin

Borromeo String Quartet

Sirena made her solo debut with the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra at the age of nine, and has performed in seventeen countries across three continents. She has been featured as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Russian Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and the Staatskapelle Weimar in Germany. She was awarded First Prize at the 2017 Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition and was the winner of the 2017 New York Concert Artist auditions. In 2009, she won First Prize Gold Medalist of the 6th International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians.

Ensemble-in-residence at the New England Conservatory and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum for twentythree years, the Quartet has also worked extensively as performers and educators with the Library of Congress, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Taos School of Music. The ensemble joined the Emerson Quartet as the 201415 Hittman Ensembles in Residence at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, and recently were in residence at Colorado State University, Kansas University, and the San Francisco Conservatory. The Quartet has collaborated with some of this generation’s most important composers, including Gunther Schuller, John Cage, Gyorgy Ligeti, Steve Reich, Osvaldo Golijov, Jennifer Higdon, Steve Mackey, John Harbison, and Leon Kirchner; and has performed on major stages across the globe, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, Wigmore Hall, Suntory Hall, the Concertgebouw, Seoul Arts Center, Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, the Incontri in Terra di Siena Chamber Music Festival in Tuscany, the Prague Spring Festival and the Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt.
