All-City Honors Ensembles Band Conductors Nick Drabik is the band director at Mauro Sheridan Interdistrict Magnet School in New Haven, Connecticut, where he teaches 4th-8th grade band and strings. Mr. Drabik is enjoying his second year directing All-City Beginning and Intermediate bands as well as directing bands at both Spring and Winter festivals. At the end of the day he loves to go home to his beautiful newborn baby girl, Olivia, his wife, cat and dog. Matthew Fried holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from the State University of New York College at Fredonia and Master of Music from Yale University. He has been involved in Yale's Music in Schools Initiative since 2006 and continues to work with students in the All-City Ensembles and Morse Summer Music Academy. Mr. Fried teaches instrumental music at Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School as well as coaching brass at The Independent Day School. He has performed with the Yale Philharmonia in Beijing, Shanghai, and Seoul, as well as recorded with the American indie rock band San Fermin. Marissa Iezzi began her musical training in Wallingford, Connecticut with Jean Wahl, David Giardina, and Fred Rossomondo. She received her music education training at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA. There she studied under Robin Kani and Tony Gairo on flute and received her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education in 2007. She received her Master of Education degree at Cabrini College in Radnor, PA. Ms. Iezzi is currently the band director at James Hillhouse High School (2018 Grammy Enterprise Award Winner) and she teaches private flute lessons each week at a studio in Hamden. José Lara currently holds a Master of Science in Music Education from the University of Bridgeport and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in World Traditions from the Southern Connecticut State University. He has been a music educator and ensemble director for over 12 years in the New Haven Public Schools and is currently the instrumental music teacher for John S. Martinez Sea and Sky STEM Magnet School. Mr. Lara has worked closely with Yale’s Morse Summer Music Academy and the Yale Music in Schools All-City Honors Ensembles, and has been a guest artist and ensemble coach at the Neighborhood Music School Summer Jazz Intensive as well as an active instructor for the NMS Jazz department. He has performed both locally and internationally with ensembles from a variety of genres including classical, jazz, Latin jazz, salsa, merengue, funk, and rhythm and blues. Andrew Maust is a proud New Haven music educator in his tenth year of teaching in the district. Currently, he is the music and band teacher at John C. Daniels School of International Communication. Andy is also the conductor of the ACCCB Community Band in Meriden, Connecticut. Andy enjoys working with students, as well as bowling and watching cheesy horror movies and criminal dramas. He wishes all of the students good luck today! A native of Colombia (South America), Rubén Rodríguez studied music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon, Conservatoire National de Region de Paris, and the Yale School of Music. For more than 20 years he has been performing, teaching, coaching, conducting ensembles, and promoting music as a tool of social change in South America, Europe, and the US. He has created and coordinated several artistic projects in underprivileged communities, bringing music into the lives of thousands of children. Currently, he is the Director of the Music in Schools Initiative of the Yale School of Music.
