Savion Glover is the recipient of the 1996 Drama Desk Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award, two Obie Awards, and two Fred Astaire Awards, as well as the 1996 Dance Magazine Choreographer of the Year Award. Mr. Glover dances on concert stages throughout the world and, in January 2006, formed Savion Glover Productions. While highlighting the traditions of tap dancing and sound, this team-based organization seeks to provide quality production and project-management services for tap dancers. Production credits include Classical Savion, Savion Glover’s SoLo iN TiME, Visions of a Bible, Savion Glover’s BARE SOUNDZ, Invitations to a Dancer, Savion Glover’s STePz, Savion Glover’s OM, and Savion Glover and The Otherz, as well as an assistant segment producer credit for Glover’s Bare Soundz appearance on Dancing with the Stars. Savion Glover Productions also produced a 50-city North American tour of Classical Savion in 2007 and the 2008 touring production of Savion Glover’s BARE SOUNDZ. Glover continues to celebrate the art form of tap and is honored to be recognized alongside some of the greatest entertaining hooferz to date.
Artist Profile
THE OTHERZ
Under the musical direction of Savion Glover, The Otherz are the first quartet to allow the sound of tap dancing to be recognized as an additional instrument and as part of the band. Inspired by John Coltrane, Glover and The Otherz continue to pay homage to such jazz greats through song while highlighting tap dance as the leading instrument. Known for their acclaimed Starz and Stripes 4ever for Now, the group’s re-working of John Philip Sousa’s The Stars and Stripes Forever, this powerful collection of musicians includes Patience Higgins, Andy McCloud, Tommy James, and Brian Grice. Celebrating the relationship between tap dance and sound, Mr. Glover uses this platform to recognize not only the Masters of Tap but also some of the greatest musicians that can influence one’s life and approach to Hoofing.
