the morse summer music academy The Morse Summer Music Academy is a partnership between the Yale School of Music and the New Haven Public Schools Music Program. The participants in the program, all New Haven Public School students, accepted by audition, have been attending classes, rehearsals and lessons every weekday since July 6 from 9 am — 2:30 pm. They have played concerts at the Yale University Art Gallery, the Peabody Museum, the New Haven Free Public Library, outside on Cross Campus, and here in Morse Recital Hall. They have visited the Norfolk (CT) Summer Music Festival and the Collection of Musical Instruments. They have been taught by Yale School of Music graduate student teaching artists, New Haven Public School music teachers, Yale School of Music faculty and alums, and other guest artist faculty. The Academy, funded by an endowment presented to the School of Music by Lester (Yale College ‘51) and Dinny Morse, showcases the instrumental musical talent in the New Haven Public Schools, and provides the students with extraordinary opportunities to grow as young musicians. You will see that on full display in tonight’s concert.
