Performances include an annual series of concerts in Woolsey Hall, as well as Yale Opera productions in the Shubert Theater. The Yale Philharmonia has also performed on numerous occasions in Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and the Kennedy Center. In 2008 the orchestra undertook its first tour of Asia, with acclaimed performances in the Seoul Arts Center, the Forbidden City Concert Hall and National Center for the Performing Arts (Beijing), and the Shanghai Grand Theatre.

Paolo Bortolameolli is a graduate both of the Arts Faculty of Universidad de Chile, where he studied conducting with David del Pino Klinge, and from Pontificia Universidad Católica, where he studied piano with Frida Conn. He is now in his second year of the Master of Music degree program in orchestral conducting at the Yale School of Music, under the guidance of Shinik Hahm.

Jonathan Brandani (Lucca, Italy 1983) is currently a conducting fellow at Yale University, where he studies with Shinik Hahm. Jonathan studied orchestra conducting with Mark Stringer at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna (Austria) where he obtained his Magister Artium Diploma with full grades and honours in June 2012. At the same university he also studied opera conducting/répétiteur with Konrad Leitner, and choir conducting with Erwin Ortner; while studying in Vienna he also benefited from the guidance of Daniel Harding and Zubin Mehta. He has conducted a.o. the Wiener KammerOrchester, Russian National Orchestra, Webern Symphonie Orchester, Maribor International Orchestra, and Haydn Sinfonietta. He also worked as conductor and répétiteur for many opera productions in Austria and Italy.

He studied piano, harpsichord, and composition, and has been playing continuo with several renowned European early music ensembles, recording for Virgin Classics, ORF, Radio4 Netherlands/AVRO, and RSI.

In Chile he was the principal conductor of a youth orchestra for three years and assistant conductor of the Orquesta USACH. Recently he performed along with the Orquesta de la Universidad de Concepción and the National Symphonic Orchestra of Perú.

As a pianist, Paolo won first prize in the 2003 National Chopin Competition, and in 2005 he won the National Competition for Young Soloists playing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the National Symphonic Orchestra of Chile.

His many chamber music partners have included Kyung Wha Chung, Peter Csaba, Ralph Kirshbaum, and the Tokyo, Takács, Guarneri, Bartók, Fine Arts, and Lindsay quartets.

He has given master classes all over the world, including the Royal Academy and Royal College in London, the Liszt Academy in Budapest, Van Cliburn Institute in Texas, and in Beijing, Hong Kong, and Seoul.

Pianist Peter Frankl made his London debut in 1962 and his New York debut with the Cleveland Orchestra under George Szell in 1967. Since that time he has performed with many of the world’s finest orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Concertgebouw, Israel Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, all the London orchestras, and the major American orchestras. He has collaborated with such eminent conductors as Abbado, Boulez, Davis, Haitink, Maazel, Masur, Muti, Salonen, and Solti, and his world tours have taken him to Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. He has appeared over twenty times at London’s BBC Promenade Concerts and has been a regular participant at the Edinburgh, Cheltenham, Aldeburgh, Verbier, Kumho, and Casals Festivals.

Among his recordings are the complete works for piano by Schumann and Debussy, Bartók and Chopin solo albums, a Hungarian anthology, concertos and four-hand works by Mozart, the two Brahms piano concertos, the Brahms violin and clarinet sonatas, the Brahms trios, Bartók pieces for violin and piano, and the piano quintets by Brahms, Schumann, Dvorák, Martinu, and both Dohnányis.

In recognition of his artistic achievements, Mr. Frankl was awarded the Officer’s Cross by the Hungarian Republic, and on his seventieth birthday he was given one of the highest civilian awards in Hungary for lifetime artistic achievement. He is an honorary professor of the Liszt Academy and has been on the Yale School of Music faculty since 1987.
