Yale Hematology Welcomes Two Hematologists Yale Hematology is pleased to welcome Anish Sharda, MBBS, MPH, and Lourdes Mendez, MD, PhD, as Assistant Professors of Medicine (Hematology).

Both Dr. Sharda and Dr. Mendez join Yale from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC).

Dr. Anish Sharda cares for patients as part of the Smilow Classical Hematology Program and has been named the 2022-23 Forget Fellow. He received his medical degree from B.P. Koiral Institute of Health Sciences and completed his residency at the University of Minnesota Medical Center and his fellowship at BIDMC. He received his MPH in General Epidemiology from the University of Michigan and currently holds a grant from the NIH to study, “Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Endothelial WeibelPalade Body Biogenesis and Exocytosis.” Dr. Sharda’s clinical interests include the care of patients with bleeding and clotting disorders, platelet disorders, and anemia and his current research is focused on understanding the mechanisms of endothelial release of von Willebrand factor and biogenesis of Weibel-Palade bodies.

Dr. Lourdes Mendez received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, as well as a PhD in Cell Biology. She completed her residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and while a fellow in hematology/oncology at BIDMC, undertook a postdoctoral fellowship in cancer genetics. Most recently, Dr. Mendez was an Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Leukemia Program Leader at BIDMC. Dr. Mendez is dedicated to both the clinical care of patients with myeloid disorders/leukemia, and translational research to identify novel therapeutics for these conditions. In addition, she sees patients with precursor conditions (CHIP/CCUS) with the goal of early identification of individuals at high risk for developing myeloid neoplasms.
