How To Troubleshoot Your Pump at Home

Before You Leave Your Appointment
• The pump will be programmed by your infusion nurse before you leave your treatment appointment. Your pump should infuse without any issues while you are wearing it. If it is infusing correctly, you will see a green light in the top left corner, and it will say “running” on the top of the screen as pictured on right:
Troubleshooting Your Pump

• If your pump is not infusing correctly, you will see a red light in the top left corner, and it will say “stopped” on the top of the screen as pictured below. On the back of each pump is an orange sticker with the phone number for the Infusystem Hotline 800-315-3287. Please see the picture below This is a 24/7 hotline, and you should call this number before calling your doctor’s office. Most times, a nurse at the Infusystem Hotline can help you fix the problem at home and prevent an unnecessary trip back to the office.

How to Stop Your Pump
If you need to stop the pump from infusing, you will first need to press the stop/start button on the front of the pump to temporarily stop the infusion (picture A below), then you will need to press the grey button on the side of the pump to turn it off completely (picture B below). Reasons you would need to turn off your pump include:
1. If you are experiencing chest pain/chest pressure/chest heaviness (call 9-1-1 immediately after turning off pump).
2. If there is a chemotherapy spill. You should receive a spill kit from your infusion nurse that includes instructions for the steps you should take in case of a chemotherapy spill. It is also included in this packet. Please remember to inquire at the end of your first treatment if you don’t receive one.

Additional Things to Keep in Mind When Wearing the Pump
• The pump is not waterproof, and you cannot get it wet. If you do get it wet, please call the Infusystem Hotline 800-315-3287.
• Keep pump close by when sleeping to prevent tubing from getting tangled or kinked. Some patients prefer to sleep in a recliner chair.
