Benign Hematology Program Welcomes Hematologists Robert Bona, MD Professor of Medicine

Robert Bona, MD, has been appointed Professor of Medicine (Hematology) at Yale Cancer Center and will serve as the inaugural Director of the Benign Hematology Program at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Medical Director of the Hemophilia Treatment Center for the Department of Pediatrics. He is a leader in the clinical care and research of benign hematological conditions, having led several research studies, clinical trials, and care innovations to advance the treatment of blood diseases.

Dr. Bona joined Yale from Quinnipiac University where he was a founding faculty member and Professor of Medical Sciences at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine.

Previously, he served as the division chief and fellowship program director at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

Dr. Bona trained in Hematology-Oncology at the University of Connecticut Health Center, followed by training in clinical thrombosis at McMaster University in Ontario.

Sabrina Browning, MD Instructor of Medicine (Hematology)

Sabrina Browning, MD, joins Smilow Cancer Hospital as an Instructor of Medicine (Hematology). Dr. Browning received her Medical Degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and completed her internship and residency at Yale New Haven Hospital. After residency, Dr. Browning served as Amyloid Fellow at the internationally recognized Amyloidosis Center at Boston University School of Medicine. In this position, she played a key role in the multidisciplinary care of patients with immunoglobulin light chain (AL) amyloidosis and related diseases. She returned to Yale New Haven Hospital to complete her fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology.

Dr. Browning’s clinical and research interests include evaluating new treatments and their impact on quality of life in patients with multiple myeloma and AL amyloidosis. Dr. Browning joins Dr. Bona and other members of the Hematology Program in caring for patients with benign hematologic conditions and with monoclonal gammopathies .
