Your signature is part of your vote! Make sure it counts.

Your signature is needed to make sure your ballot gets counted.

If the signature on your ballot isn't similar to a signature in your voter registration record or if your signature is missing, don't worry. You can still "cure" your ballot so it counts. We will contact you by mail, phone, email, and text.
Your signature validates your ballot, your choices, and your participation in the democratic process.
Tips for making sure it counts.

• If you registered online, check the signature on your driver's license or ID. That's the signature we're using to compare to your ballot signature.
• Your signature doesn't need to be written in cursive or even be legible. It just needs to match what we already have on file for you.
• If you aren't sure what signature you might have used, before you vote, send us a signature update form and we'll update your record. Visit www.yakimacounty.us/vote.

City and town governments in Washington are classified according to their population at the time of incorporation or reorganization.
There are four basic classifications for cities and towns in the State of Washington: first class cities, second class cities, towns, and code cities.
Although some of the state laws are the same for all classes of cities, many of the laws are different.
In addition, there are two types of government for the cities and towns in Yakima County -the mayor-council form of government, and councilmanager. Each type of government gives councils and mayors different responsibilities and authority under the law.
In general, elected mayors and city councils act as the official legislative and policy making body for the City adopting all laws, ordinances, and resolutions, levying taxes, and approving contracts required by the City. The Council analyzes proposals to meet community needs, initiates action for new programs and determines the ability of the City to provide financing for City operations. The Council also reviews, modifies, and approves the annual budget. Additionally, the City Council performs other miscellaneous duties, including appointments to various boards and commissions, acts as liaison with other governmental bodies, and responds to community groups and individual constituents.
A candidate for mayor or council must be a registered voter within the city limits.
A candidate for a city council district position must be a registered voter in the city limits and reside within that council district.
Code cities require candidates to be a resident of that city for one year.
Candidates must possess all qualifications at the time of filing for office.

My name is Enedelia Moncivaiz, and I would like to advocate for positive changes for our children and future generations. Currently, many children in our city have limited options for afterschool activities, aside from our city library, which has been a tremendous resource for our community. However, on hot summer days, it would be wonderful for families to have access to a park with a splash pad or a community center. With all the new developments coming to our city, we can expect more children, more families, and increased revenue for Mabton.

Society is brought together by it's wants and needs and society benefits greatly. Government is a necessary evil, easily corrupted and easily abused. The Washington State Office of Financial Management will have twelve to sixteen billion dollar shortfall over the next four years. The state never cuts back but always spends more so they can say, "See what I did for you". The Forest Service, Volunteer Fire Departments, Department of Corrections all across the nation are effectively utilizing volunteer services. Perhaps the City of Naches would also benefit from utilizing volunteer services. Endorsed by Yakima County Republican Party.

I have lived in Selah for most of my life, serving the community as a long-time employee of Howard's Drug. I want to continue to be a voice for the people of Selah whom I have grown to love - to speak up for fiscal conservatism and common sense. Statement
I am endorsed by the Yakima County Republican party. I want to make a change in the direction of our education system in Selah. When I moved to Selah in 2011 the district was considered one of the best around with high test scores. Over time, I have seen this erode away. The current state mandates prevent our teachers from safely educating our children effectively. I believe that Selah's family and community values are not reflected in our schools. I want to be an advocate for change and give teachers, parents and students a voice within the Selah School district.

Proposition No. 1
Non-Binding Advisory Vote
Cannabis (Marijuana) Production, Processing and Retail Sales in Unincorporated Yakima County
Proposition No. 1 concerns cannabis (marijuana). Cannabis (marijuana)-related businesses are currently banned in unincorporated Yakima County. Should the Board of Yakima County Commissioners continue the complete ban of cannabis (marijuana) production, processing and retail sales within unincorporated Yakima County?
Explanatory Statement

For questions about this measure, contact: Julie Lawrence, Clerk of the Board of Yakima County Commissioners; 509-574-1500 julie.lawrence@co.yakima.wa.us
This measure is a non-binding advisory vote to solicit public input on whether the Board of County Commissioners should continue to prohibit state-licensed cannabis (marijuana) businesses in unincorporated Yakima County.
Under Washington state law, cannabis production, processing, and retail sales are permitted and licensed by the Washington Liquor and Cannabis Board. However, local jurisdictions retain authority to regulate or prohibit such businesses within their boundaries.
A "Yes” vote indicates that the voter supports continuing to prohibit the operation of statelicensed cannabis producers, processors, and retailers in unincorporated Yakima County.
A "No" vote indicates that the voter opposes such a prohibition and supports allowing these businesses to operate in unincorporated Yakima County.
The outcome of this advisory vote will not create or change any law or regulation but will inform the Board of County Commissioners in its future policy decisions regarding cannabis businesses in unincorporated areas of Yakima County.
The resolution that was submitted by the district for this measure is available at www.votewa.gov in your personalized Voter Guide.
Argument For
Submitted by committee volunteers: Alicia Stromme Tobin, Ramon Chavez, and Richard Bartheld
509-969-8683
Lifting the ban on marijuana dispensaries jeopardizes the health, safety, and values of our community. Today’s marijuana is not the same drug. It’s a high-potency, chemically processed substance fueling addiction, youth suicide, psychosis, and violence. In 2022, over 1.3 million teens were diagnosed with cannabis use disorder. Toddler edible poisonings have surged, and violent behavior is twice as likely in daily users aged 18–34. Dispensaries bring increased emergency visits, crime, and reduced property values—while failing to eliminate the black market. For every $1 in tax revenue, we incur $4.50 in social costs. Protect our community. Vote Yes!
Argument Against
Submitted by committee volunteers: Kenton Gartrell, Matthew Giussi, and Chris Schneider
509-910-9306
Lifting the ban on marijuana farming and retail sales will allow Yakima County to embrace free-market principles that benefit agriculture, small business, and the local economy. Marijuana is already legal in Washington, but our current restrictions send potential revenue, jobs, and investment to neighboring counties. By allowing regulated cultivation and sales, we can diversify farm income, create year-round employment, and expand the tax base— without raising taxes. This is about keeping our money opportunity here “home”, supporting farmers, and ensuring Yakima County competes fairly in a statewide market we are currently losing to others.
Rebuttal of Argument Against
Yakima County grows over 40 agricultural products. Marijuana is not a thriving market — Washington’s marijuana sales have declined for 5 consecutive years and the majority of growers can’t find buyers. Marijuana jeopardizes our community’s health, safety, and values. For every tax dollar earned, we will lose $4.50 due to costs of combatting its effects. Expanding into an oversaturated industry won't help our economy but will create more problems as access to marijuana is increased.
Rebuttal of Argument For
The DEA states “no deaths from overdose of marijuana have been reported” , underscoring that cannabis isn’t like lethal opioids (fentanyl). Washington tightly regulates cannabis – only approved pesticides may be used – so claims of toxic “weed” confuse unregulated drugs with the legal market. Studies show teen use didn’t spike after legalization . This is a policy failure and a failure of bad elected officials– not evidence that marijuana itself is inherently dangerous. Vote better candidates.
Proposition No. 1
Levy Lid Lift for Public Safety, Parks and Recreation, Streets and Other Related City Services
The City of Yakima City Council adopted Resolution No R-2025-109 concerning funding for City services and operations. This proposition would provide funding for City operations and services, including public safety, parks and recreation, streets, and other related services, by increasing the City's regular property tax levy by $0.50/$1,000 to a maximum levy rate of $2.46/$1,000 of assessed valuation for collection in 2026. The 2026 levy amount will be used as the basis to calculate subsequent levies, per RCW 84.55. Qualifying seniors, veterans, and others would be exempt, per RCW 84.36. Should this proposition be approved?

If approved by voters, this ballot measure would generate approximately $6 million in yearly property tax revenue that would be used to preserve police, fire, parks, streets, and other related City of Yakima programs and services. Property tax rates would increase by about 50-centsper-$1000 of assessed property value. That would mean, for example, the owner of property valued at about $356,000 would pay about $15 more per month in tax and the owner of a property valued at about $600,000 would pay about $25 more per month in tax. Exemptions may be available under state law for qualified seniors, veterans, and others.
If the ballot measure is not approved, the Yakima City Council will need to make approximately $6 million in cuts to city operations which may include staffing, parks & recreation programs, and/or public safety.

Yakima is facing a budget shortfall that puts essential services at risk. For 24 years, property tax increases have been capped at 1% per year—far below the rising costs of public safety, parks, and community programs. The City has already made deep cuts. Without this levy, we face fewer police officers and firefighters, slower emergency response times, and reduced services we all rely on including community pools and senior centers. Proposition 1 provides the funding needed to keep Yakima safe, clean, and thriving. Let’s protect our quality of life and invest in our community—vote Yes on Proposition 1.
Argument Against

Vote no to stop property tax hikes that burden Yakima families, seniors, and small businesses. Yakima has over 250 city employees compensated over $150,000 per year, while the median household income is around $60,000. This levy adds $50 per $100,000 of taxes to assessed property values, costing many homeowners $200-$500 more in taxes each year.
The real issue isn’t tax revenue; its unaffordable budgets filled with wasteful spending. Washington’s 9-cent-pergallon gas tax hike, and many other newly implemented tax and fee increases, already strain taxpayers. Reject this levy to demand accountability and a balanced budget.
Rebuttal of Argument Against
Yes is an investment in Yakima’s safety and future. The majority will pay less than $20/month to fund essential services like police, fire, and emergency response. Claims of waste are vastly overblown and ignore years of responsible city management. Rejecting the levy won’t fix state taxes, it will only hurt our community. This levy will protect families, seniors, businesses, and is critical for economic growth. Don’t let misinformation jeopardize Yakima’s future. Vote Yes.
Rebuttal of Argument For
The “in favor” argument overlooks viable budget-balancing options that preserve essential services. Yakima can optimize existing funds by streamlining operations, reducing administrative overhead, negotiating better contracts, and making targeted cuts in non-essential areas. This approach prioritizes police, fire, parks, and community programs without imposing a burdensome property tax increase on families. Demand smarter spending, greater accountability, and a balanced budget to safeguard our quality of life. Vote no on Proposition 1.
