Earth is the biggest treasure for us. To be eco-friendly becomes a highly concerned issue for people. AquaMate offers an opportunity for household users to do good to Mother Nature easily.

Recycling vs. Urban Mining
It’s the first time that we decide the topic of our project. Members in our team had the same idea of designing a product which has real fuction and can help to solve some issues. At first, we discussed about recycling and scavengers. Later, we broadened the range of recycling. Urban Mining is a larger scope of recycling. It not only deals with papers, bottles but all kinds of things that can be recycled.

Urband Mining There’re lots of junked resource in cities and cities are as if mines.
There’re lots of junked resource in cities. Cities are as if mines. People around the world are running out of all kinds of resources and facing ecological problems. What can we mine in those junked things ? We decided to make use of household grease from kitchen waste.

Drain grease into pipes and sewers. Graese lumps in the pipes which are in the kitchen. Buy Drano or hire worker to fix it.

/ Soak feathers in oil / Take out & drop redundant oil
Inspired from the oil spill incident, we searched kinds of animals feather to test how much oil it can suck up. Through experiments, we found out that feathers of chickens are the most outstanding one in sucking oil up. It’s because that there’re no oil on chicken’s feathers and the composition of the feathers makes them can take in more amount of oil. We noticed that chicken’s feathers have no economic value now so that we can promote the value of them if we use them to solve the grease problems. However, it cost tremendous amount of water to clean the feathers. It’s still not a eco-friendly approach.

Principle
There’re two sink in AquaMate and the two sinks are connected via the passage. Because grease’s rather low density, it will float on water. With this property, water goes to the 2nd sink and deains away whereas grease was trapped in the 1st sink.

We thicken the bottom part and enhance the height of sieve to keep it from soaking in water and decaying.

Design of the oil cup makes users take out grease and empty it skillfully. It can also avoids users from squatting down to fish for grease in the narrow place under sink.
A series of mechanisms let users run the whole system while rotating the oil cup to fitch the grease. It makes sealed plug open, producing gaps so water can be discharged and carry off dregs.

Using Process
When users push the lid to the limit, it will bounce up and open.
Take out the dregs sieve respectively and clean it regularly.
It’s time to clean AquaMate when the light on the timer is twinkling or the indicating ring is visible.
The motions which are rotating the oil cup and taking it out with the dregs sieve drains off water in AquaMate at the same time.
After trashing dregs, please pour the grease along the curval outlet of the oil cup into leftover bucket.
Complete the cleaning process by installing the sieve and the oil cup back after washing them.

OPPORTUNITIES
Price is reasonable that most family can accept. And the marketing channel will be hypermarket, such as K-mart and Costco. Classify in the area of kitchenware, not in boutique department store.
Compared with existing product, the volume of AquaMate is smaller that can be put into the space which is under the sink in the kitchen and there is still space for other stuffs to store.
Doesn’t need to use electricity to withhold grease and also no consumables needed.
Sanitary and easy to use, every member in family can learn to use it no matter which age they are.
There’s no product designed for household but many countries have putted more attention on the issue of discharging waste water and grease from houses.
All kinds of environment issues are highly concerned as every kind of media boom up. Environmental protection concept is going to be a tendency and green products are more popular.
WEAKNESS
It’s an additional product that needs to be installed between water sink and pipe. Therefore, cleaning the product becomes an extra errand.
Because AquaMate is not controlled by electronic device, it can’t remove grease by itself. User may have to clean it on their own.
It’s not as outstanding as other grease separators which are controlled by electronic device.
THREATS
Nowadays, people generally don’t understand how grease pollutes water resource and why it will lump pipes and sewers. We have to advocate the concept about it to bring higher motivation of buying our product.
New material which can absorb grease and throw away after using is another approach to deal with grease. If there is one, it will become a competitor.

At the first stage of running this project, we got a mission to brainstorm some ideas about “transaction”. We browsed through magzines quickly, and cut down some pages that attract us. After collecting lots of images and words, everyone shared ideas popping up when seeing those and why they choosed them. Seeking posibilities of what a vending machine can do was later told to us.

It demamded couples to come back the concert together after an year. At that time, tickets was sold out immediately whereas only half of couples came back the concert. Can a transaction last longer ?

Homeless, the elderly, Social vulnerable groups, environment issues ... There’re lots of social issues on the world. How can a vendind machine do to help that ? With a low using barrier provided by a vending machine, can transaction be much easier to those people in need ?

When it comes to people in need, people in the third world come to mind immediately. However, those regions are too far for us to get there and what’s more important is that we don’t really understand them Thus, we get rid of ideas of making efforts to help people so far away from us. Instead, we put emphasis on people around us.
In such a busy sociaty, people care about wealth rather than health. Most of time, we’re busy making more and more moneys. Some will say that’s because of families. They earn more moneys so that their family members can live a better live. Some say that money is not everything, but without money you are nothing whereas it turns out that without health, you are noyhing at all.

They did all they can to fight anainst illness however, it was still difficult both for their families and themselves to accept the truth that they don’t have much time to live. There’re still lots of things they want to do. Yet, they cherish themselves more than we did. All around the world, there are many

Help lives / Remind cherishing With this brief in our mind, we had tried hard to develope some ideas and hoped to cenvey some important things to others in a vending machine. We came up with many different games. Why games ? Because we hoped to remind people some things by letting them experience things. Some games had elements to imply that life is fragile, and some put more emphasis on alternatives. All ideas was built since we had a belief, evey person, every day has something brilliant to be cherished.

Labyrinth symbolizes life. On the journey of life, we always have to make a choice. Unveliled part of the labyrinth means that future is unpredictable. The game was designed to play with the marble with pigment on it. When people make a choice, it leaves beautiful trace.

No matter how our lives look like, we all have to go through the same stage. We born, and we die. The only different is that some live longer time and some won’t. It’s a symbol of life. There’s an end and it starts at the same position, but what’ll happen on the journey is unknown.

Project Dandelion
After series of discussing, we found ot that games couldn’t deliver those things to others. And after correcting, we decided to name the project “Dandelion” and built Little Journey to be a fundraising approach for cancer patients. The image of dandelion is to symbol spread; as for little journey, it represents life. We shared a story of someone’s life instead of selling products. We went to visit hospice and interviewed nurses. They told us some stories of lives. One story was picked up and we determined to share it with others. From those interviews, we noticed that to choose is a n important thing in life and what we choosed influences our lives very much. Thus, we combined story, choice and beatiful life these three elements together to built the vending machine.

A whole life is like a story. Every person is the master of their sotry. Through the story, every person can experiences different life. Act as the master in the story and share those happiness and sorrow in life.
It’s inevitable in life that we have to make decisions, although that is sometimes difficult for us. Even we can’t figure out what the future will be, we still have to hand our choices in. In the story, people must choose to let the story make progress.
No matter what people have choosed and how the outcome was, it’s definitely a beautiful life. Each time people make decision in Little Journey, It drops down part of spirograph. Spirograph and it’s patterns represent pretty life.

AS a father but also a patient, what would you choose to do ? To take surgeries, accept medical care or to work more harder in order to leave more property to family members so that they could still live on after you pass away?
Though it’s the same matter, it turns out to be a totally different meaning from other point of views. As a daughter, you loves father and mother. You hope that your lovely family can always there to keep with you. But dad becomes debilitated in front of your eyes, how to make a choice in such a sorrow time? To be staunch or to cry out?

Holography Combining 2D and 3D, we used kind of holography to present the story. It’s because we considered that if we use animation purely, it becomes only a movie and lack a feeling of vitality. We made a 3D stage and project the charactersin to it to promote layer effect.

Using Process After putting coins into Little Journey, the story was started. You’ll see the two characters in the story and then, you have to choose which one you want to be. There’re three stage in the story, each time people have to make a choice and the story’ll continue. Each time you hand in your decision, one part of the spirograph was released.
Spirograph Different choices, different kind of life. There’re 8 kinds of courses in the story according to every person’s decisions. Therefore, we created 8 kind of patterns by spirograph to represent those courses indivisually. people’ll get their own. We use the progress of making decisions and the spirograph to tell one thing : To walk through, to miis it, are all fantastic trace in life. The amazing patterns from spiroghaph means beautiful life.

Daughter 洪瑋茹 15 years old freshman in senior high He’s a Taiwanese businessman worked in China for a long time. They were close when his daughter was a little girl. Since he went to China for work, they became alienated. Now, father has came back to Taiwan. Although he didn’t retire, he wants to spend time being with her daughter on holidays.
Father Not specially like Art exhibition but it’s okay to have a look at it and spend some time to understand it for entertainment activity. Most important is that his daughter like it so it’s worth costing time with daughter visiting museum. Slight presbyopia. Wants to know where his daughter is just for being relieved. Won’t particular call his daughter comes to him when seeing something interesting but tells her if meet her.
Daughther Love Art very much, often goes to museum to see exhibition. Though there’s a little bit alienated between her and father doesn’t mean she doen’t love her father, just somehow doesn’t know how to interact with him. Familiar with touchscreen cuz she has a smart phone. Won’t walk beside her father when visiting an exhibition. She’ll go places interested in and wants to go sightseeing all of them at full blast. If father tells her some about works, she’ll listento and gives some feedback.

Notion Generally speaking, commercial available Iodine Solution is hard to aim at the bottle’s mouth. And You need to press the bottle to let Iodine solution drip on the cotton swab but it always drip down on the table or floor. My notion is that the Iodine solution can from the bottom up, and you can easily dip it with cotton swab. Don’t need to aim at the bottle’s mouth.

This project is the first time that we really make product move. It’s a team work. We assembled lego, wrote program to let NXT move as our expect to accomplish task.

What we could do with lego robot? With lego and motor, what robot can do in simple move but benefits human being?
Notion I had many ideas for different people. Some have problem of oversleep, some nervous about their pet when they didn’t at home. But at the end, we choosed an “Alarm” as our theme. We wanted to wake people up with touch instead of sound that always awaken others who didn’t have needs to wake up.
Turn on the switch on the lego robot’s back. Set the time when the robot will start running as the alarm clock before you sleep at night.
After setting the alarm clock , the machine starts to count down when you fall asleep. Reveilley will keep waiting beside your foot until the time users set to wake them up.
It starts to move along the bed until it crashes the bedplate. The robot may keep going between two bedplates if you don’t catch it. When users catch the stick, it begins small-angle moving until released.
Push the button on the robot’s back certain times to make the whole machine stop. It may be not so easy to find the button and count certain times when you are still not sober.

Brief Analysis
About the form and function it acts as
Axis Space for finger Razor
Notion When it comes to tape dispenser, there’re holding tape and space for your finger to pull different types for different user and purpose.But tape, a razor for cut off tape. it’s the same that all of them have an axis for I think some of them are necessary, while some are not. For example, there should be a razor no matter what sort of shapes or materials it takes to form to cut off tape. But what I curioused about is that is there necessary need a cylinder for axis? Whether it could be part ot the form? Or if there is a various way to put a tape into a tape dispenser? And I tried to make the tape dispenser I came up with ( just as the picture at the left hand side, that’s my prototype of it ) into a piece, not two plates.
