The very quintessence of innovation, Azimut Grande Trideck features a new living area, never seen before on a yacht this size: the Sea View Terrace. As the latest addition to the traditional triple-decker, the Sea View Terrace is an aft raised “mezzanine” deck. Thanks to this layout innovation, Grande Trideck offers four terraces, completing a visual effect of cascading terraces from the Sundeck down to the sea.

22 / NEWS All the latest yachting news 40 / World Yachts Trophies 2021 : the winners On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the World Yachts Trophies ceremony has again broken all records with 34 boats awarded. 66 / Show: Cannes Yachting Festival The Cannes Yachting Festival was almost back to normal with a large number of new boats winning WYT awards. Here are a few others that have merited the attention of our magazine. 74 / SHOW: Monaco Yacht Show Even if the number of new yachts was a little less present, the last Monaco Yacht confirmed the excellent economic health of this industry with the presence of 440 exhibitors. 80 / SHOW: Fort Lauderdale Boat show A little more focused on second-hand boats, the American show remains as spectacular as ever with its plethora of overpowered outboards and its multitude of sportfisherman. 90 / FOREWORD: what’s new in 2022 The press conferences organised during the autumn shows are an opportunity for the various manufacturers to announce their new products for 2022. Here is a selection of some of the models to be previewed.

108 / ON BOARD: Absolute 60 Fly This new fly from the Italian manufacturer Absolute marks the launch of a new range that offers à la carte layouts according to the different needs of its international users. An approach that comes close to the success of semi-custom. 118 / ON BOARD: Windy SR 60 With the Windy SR 60, the Scandinavian manufacturer confirms its specialisation in the semi-custom chase boat market. Its triple IPS pod engine gives it exceptional sailing pleasure. 128 / ON BOARD: Sunreef power 100 The launch of a new 30-metre catamaran in record time and a 40-metre catamaran currently under construction confirm that the Franco-Polish manufacturer has become the world leader in the manufacture of top-of-the-range multihulls in just a few years. 138 / ON BOARD: Wally WHY200 Wally is definitely not a yacht like the others. With its totally futuristic design, the Wally WHY200 has an impressive living space with a master suite that runs along the entire front of the hull.

A MARKET IN GREAT SHAPE

Contrary to what we might have thought, the pandemic has not had a negative impact on the general yachting economy... quite the contrary and the figures easily prove it. Fraser Yachts, announces that the market for superyachts over 30 metres has jumped by 8% with over 200 yachts delivered in 2021. Ferretti continues to grow in 2021 with 160 boats launched between January and September. Its order book is close to 900 million euros, 220 million of which was taken exclusively during the last month of September. As for the Azimut Benetti group, it totalled a production of 850 million euros, up 100 million compared to the previous year, with an order book exceeding 1.2 billion euros. Sanlorenzo also grew by 32.8% with a turnover of €428.4 million, but the most impressive thing is its order book, valued at €1.2 billion. Italian Sea Group is currently building a 100-metre mega-yacht and has announced a 73% increase in sales compared to the 2020 financial year. After eight sales in the last 12 months, Columbus Yachts has just won two sales for a 43 and a 47 metre Atlantic. The same is

true for Beneteau, which, after acquiring one of the largest charter companies, has announced orders up by 55%, totalling 1.8 billion euros. At the same time, the “second hand” market is taking full advantage of this upturn. The recent sale of the 72-metre CRN Azteca, whose owner accepted bitcoins, is the best proof of this, with a transaction completed in less than three months. No one seems to be escaping this general euphoria, which has developed in the absence of major international trade shows. Despite what some may think, the stock market has never done so well and there are more and more billionaires on the planet. The arrival of Covid has also changed some lifestyles. Barbara Amerio, president of Amer Yachts, told us that some of her clients want to spend more time on board their yacht and even live and work on it for a good part of the year. The yacht industry is growing rapidly and once again the sea is proving to be one of the best refuges against this virus, which we hope will disappear as soon as possible. In the meantime, we wish you a very happy holiday season. Stephane GUEDJ

TURQUOISE VENTO Getting bigger and bigger

The 87-metre Vento project is a landmark achievement for Turquoise Yachts and H2 Yacht Design. It represents the ninth collaboration between the two companies in a relationship that has lasted for over 17 years. Vento will be the largest powerboat ever built by Turquoise. Vento will feature an extraordinary beach club, comparable in size to yachts over 100 metres, under a 6.50 metre transparent pool. The

helipad will be located on the foredeck and when not in use can be transformed into a basketball court. The semi-enclosed sundeck will be equipped with a bar, an outdoor kitchen, an outdoor cinema and a large Jacuzzi. The layout takes advantage of the yacht's large size, which has allowed the guest cabins to be located on the main deck, with the owner's private space on the upper deck.

DOCKSENSE CONTROL AUTOMATION FOR MANOEUVRING Docking a boat in windy or currenty conditions is often a stressful moment even for experienced boat owners. That's why Raymarine and Emerson engineers have been working for nearly four years to develop a system to improve manoeuvring. DockSense Control uses a range of Teledyne FILR telescopic cameras to monitor and form a virtual bumper zone around the boat. Its technology prevents the boat from hitting a detected object and immediately moves the boat via the joystick. Video imaging provides a clear view of objects around the boat, allowing the blind spots to be seen from the helm. This is the first step towards the equivalent of a park-assist in the automotive world.

JFA A 50-METRE EXPLORER ON ORDER JFA has just won an order for a 50-metre fully customised Explorer. This project confirms once again JFA Yachts' ability to adapt to the unique needs of particularly demanding clients. The naval architecture and exterior styling was entrusted to Humphreys Yacht Design based in the UK. The focus on board this new motor yacht has been on stabilisation with a system that includes pivoting fins under the hull in addition to a gyroscopic stabiliser. The interior life will be in total connection with the outside thanks to a multitude of openings and transparent surfaces. The interior design will be carried out by the Milanese studio M2 design directed by Marijana Radovic and Marco Bonneli. To be in line with the current trend, a hybrid propulsion system consisting of two MTUs has been chosen. The hull of this explorer will be entirely in aluminium with composite superstructures. Delivery of this new yacht is scheduled for 2024.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

GULF CRAFT Increased sales

Gulf Craft is strengthening its distribution network in 12 European countries, while expanding its international presence in the US, Australia and the Middle East. Gulf Craft also announces its membership of the Super Yacht Builders Association (SYBAss). According to Talal Nasralla, CEO of Gulf Craft: "This has been an exceptionally exciting year with a full order

book and the delivery of our Majesty 175. This has consolidated our strengths in the manufacture of composite yachts, which is becoming increasingly popular in Europe. With a significant 42% increase in orders in the first half of 2021, Gulf Craft, which designs most of its boats in one manufacturing facility, has been able to increase its production capacity.

MAN FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH BENETEAU MAN is supplying engines for the first time to the French yacht and powerboat manufacturer Beneteau. The collaboration starts with the launch of the Beneteau Grand Trawler 62. MAN will equip the new model with MAN i6-730 in-line six-cylinder engines with 730 hp (537 kW). The engine is based on the technically proven MAN D2676 power unit, which has been used for many years in agricultural engineering, generators, buses and trucks. The engine, which was first unveiled at Cannes in 2016, benefits from the mass production experience gained in these applications in terms of durability, vibration control and fuel efficiency.

AZIMUT|BENETTI Encouraging figures

DOMINATOR A RANGE OF DAY-BOATS Dominator is launching a new range of day-boats that come in three different lengths: Mini, Weekender and Escape. These models will perfectly respect the manufacturer's DNA of craftsmanship and innovation. With a length ranging from 7.5 to 14 metres, these Ilumen Day Boat models will comfortably accommodate 8 to 14 guests. The luxurious interior cabin will offer a dining area fully equipped with essential facilities such as a sink, fridge and freezer. The cockpit will have a perfectly designed deck layout to offer excellent flexibility between the dining and sunbathing areas. All three models will be offered with Z-drive propulsion for excellent top speed performance.

With production totalling 850 million euros, up 100 million euros on the previous year, the Azimut-Benetti Group is closing the 2020/21 sailing season with great satisfaction. Despite a slowdown due to team organisation problems resulting from anti-Covid policies and supply difficulties, the group nevertheless delivered 245 boats. 10 units of the Azimut Trideck have already been sold before its official debut at Cannes 2021 and Benetti's Oasis 40M has 14 firm orders. Also noteworthy is the unprecedented success of the Verve 47, an outboard positioned in the high-end segment, with 55 units sold. It should also be remembered that more than half of the value of production (around 570 million euros out of a total of 850) concerns boats over 80 feet, a segment in which the Group's leadership has been further consolidated thanks to its growing popularity on international markets. A particularly satisfying result is the order book, which has tripled compared to the previous season. It now stands at 1.2 billion euros, including 900 million for models over 80 feet. Geographically, sales are balanced on the three main continents (Europe, the United States and the Middle East), while the Asia-Pacific region has leapt to 15% of total sales and is proving to be a particularly promising market. The group confirms its investment in research and development of more than €100 million over the next three years.

FEADSHIP Shinkai

As with any truly bespoke superyacht, the design of the 'Shinkai' was built around the specific choices of the client. In this case, it was a question of how best to integrate a 7.2 tonne submarine on the aft deck, as well as the giant crane needed to launch it and the limousine and car accompanying the yacht. With this in mind, designer Philippe Briand and the Vitruvius and Feadship teams developed a 55-metre exploration yacht capable of travelling the world while

being fuel-efficient. The steel hull has been built with Ice certification and an advanced WASSP sonar system to explore the seabed. For the first time on a yacht of this size, a gyro system has been installed in the hull instead of the traditional fins. Weighing 23 tonnes, this is one of the heaviest pieces of equipment ever made. Shinkai's interior design was created by Monaco-based Boutsen Design. All of Feadship's experience can be found in this entirely custom unit.

JACKY DECABOOTER CONDOLENCES

MAN A HYBRID VERSION MAN presented the MAN Smart Hybrid to the public for the first time in Cannes. The electric motor-generator unit of the MAN Smart Hybrid Experience can produce a nominal power of 184 kW or 368 kW, with an extremely high efficiency of up to 96%. The motor-generator is positioned on the diesel engine and can be separated from the diesel engine by an electromagnetic clutch. This results in a clear advantage for the customer, as the operating mode can be changed without stopping the engines. In fact, this change can be made during operation (including as an emergency function) without interrupting the power supply, which makes operation much more convenient. The MAN Smart Hybrid Experience can be combined with all

It is with great sorrow that we have learned of the death at the age of 77 of Jacky Decabooter, a wellknown professional in the Bay of Saint Tropez. He was one of the first to represent well-known brands such as Pershing and Tullio Abatte. All our meetings with Jacky were pure moments of happiness, laughter and exchanges on the yachting industry, a sector in which Jacky had an impressive knowledge. To all his family, we send our most respectful condolences. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

MAN marine engines of the current D2862 (V12), D2868 (V8) and D2676 (in-line six-cylinder) series. This allows overall power outputs for each drive train ranging from 474 kW to 1,838 kW (644 hp to 2,500 hp), from the smallest in-line six-cylinder series to the most powerful V12. Six operating modes are available: zero emission mode, diesel-electric mode, crossover mode, hotel mode, boost mode and diesel mode.

Together with other investments in the luxury hotel sector, Next Yacht Group's objective will be to develop the concept of comfort and habitability on board Maiora yachts and the customisation of AB Yachts high-speed yachts. CBI Navi continues to specialise in the construction of steel boats. Significant investments have already been made to renovate the production facilities, develop new models and strengthen the design and organisational structure. All these operations will be carried out under the supervision of the new president Gennaro Candida De Matteo, who has a long experience in the yachting industry.

ROSETTI SUPERYACHTS A second 38 metre yacht

Rosetti Superyachts will soon start construction of a second 38-metre yacht similar to the first for delivery in July 2023. According to Ermanno Bellettini, CEO of Rosetti Superyachts, "this new construction represents an important investment, confirming that our group firmly believes in the future of Italian shipbuilding and, in particular, in Rosetti Superyachts' talent for building yachts with international appeal". In the coming months, the future owner of the 38-metre yacht will be able to configure the interiors with the expertise of Studio Burdisso Capponi, which also designed the interiors of the first yacht.

SUNREEF

Alonso gets an "eco-catamaran Fernando Alonso, the two-time Formula 1 world champion, has ordered a 60 Sunreef Power Eco catamaran from Sunreef Yachts. This model will be powered by electric motors supplied by a system of solar panels developed in-house by the shipyard.

The yacht will also have ultra-light batteries custom-designed by Sunreef Yachts with a low-energy air conditioning system. Alonso, recognised as one of the greatest motorsport drivers, is now one of the brand's best ambassadors.

IMPERIAL YACHTS Sale of an Amels 60

Imperial Yachts kicked off the Monaco Yacht Show 2021 with the signing of a new Amels 60 on the first day of the show. This project is the twelfth collaboration between Imperial Yachts and Amels & Damen Yachting since 2007. The third hull in the series, this 60-metre is designed by Espen Oeino. The exterior spaces

offer a huge sundeck that is almost half the length of the boat. The interior design will be entirely customised by Andrew Winch. Inspired by the exterior lines, the interior design will reproduce certain geometric shapes to create a sense of unity. In keeping with the current trend, this Amels 60 will be powered by a hybrid drive.

ROYAL HUISMAN Phi

PHI is a yacht from the drawing board of Cor D. Rover, who based the overall concept, exterior design and interior layout on extensive discussions with the owner over several years. The interior design is by London-based Lawson Robb and the naval architecture is by Van Oossanen Naval Architects. Phi will be delivered at the end of the year and will be accompanied by a 36-metre boat designed by the same team but built by the Turkish shipyard Alia Yachts.

HEESEN SKYFALL A milestone

In a complex operation that took place over several days, three large mobile cranes positioned the main engines on their supports and then hoisted the superstructure onto the waiting hull. The fast vessel will be equipped for sport fishing with a clear cockpit with a 'fighting chair' and storage space for 40 fishing rods. SkyFall will reach a top speed of

37 knots thanks to the 22,000 horsepower produced by four MTU 20V4000 engines combined with four Kongsberg S90 water-jets. Scheduled for completion in 2023, SkyFall will be accompanied by a customised tender built by Vanquish to a design by Guido de Groot that will mirror the mother ship to the last brush stroke.

HEESEN Aura project sold

YN 19650, Project Aura, a 50 metre steel displacement yacht built under the 500 GT threshold, has been sold. Stuart Larsen and Trevor Carroll of Fraser Yachts introduced the yard to an experienced American owner who fell in love with the yacht at first sight. Her flowing Clifford Denn exterior, chic Reymond Langton interior and strong Dutch pedigree quickly won over the future owner and the deal was closed in a record 20 days. Her bulbous bow to reduce drag provides both comfort and

fuel economy. Two MTU 8V4000 M63 engines give the yacht a top speed of 15 knots and a range of 3,800 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 13 knots. Ten guests will be accommodated in five spacious cabins, with four suites occupying the lower deck and a spacious owner's cabin located on the main deck forward. Billy Lockhart of Yacht Next will follow the construction of Aura, which is scheduled for delivery in April 2022 after extensive North Sea trials.

TANSU YACHTS An Italian collaboration

The Turkish builder Tansu Yachts, created in 1997 and well known for its 40 to 60 metre yachts with a military look but a very contemporary design, has just signed a partnership agreement with the Italian entrepreneur Angelo Casartelli to give a new lease of life to the brand. The aim is to offer a range of steel and aluminium boats from 24 metres upwards, combining the yard’s technical expertise with a level of finish equivalent to the best Italian productions. The originality of Tansu Yachts is to bring a surprising contrast between the rigour of the exterior design and the spacious and functional interiors highlighted by a contemporary and minimalist decoration. The fleet consists of several award-winning yachts such as the 36-metre Nomade, Only Now, So’Mar, Sexy Fish and Cyclone. The aim of this new partnership is also to develop on units of more than 40 metres, a fast-growing sector with a strong potential for the brand. Two orders have already been won and several shipowners have expressed their interest in new projects, including an astonishing 50-metre yacht under 500 GT. The emblematic Turkish brand has already won the support of many potential buyers at the last Monaco Yacht Show and should now meet a much wider audience thanks to this new association.

20th edition World Yachts Trophies

2021

2021 20th edition

THE WINNERS The 20th edition of the World Yachts Trophies took place on the Carlton beach in a particularly festive and friendly atmosphere. In a competition that is always very competitive, 34 boats were rewarded during this anniversary ceremony. Text : Franck VAN ESPEN Photos : Peter Seyfferth and Stephane Gendre

Never before in the last 20 years has the voting been so close and competitive between the different nominees. For those who are not familiar with our way of working, the trophies are the result of a vote by five experienced journalists who have been visiting, testing and getting to know the various sites for many years. This system is perfectly understood and appreciated by the builders and explains why this trophy is one of the most recognized in the world. The work done by most of the builders is to be commended, as they have made great strides on many levels in terms of design, innovation, engineering, and manufacturing quality. This evening was once again an opportunity to bring together the world’s leading shipbuilders, with a strong presence from Italian shipyards. Amongst the 500 people gathered on the beach, many shipowners were also able to appreciate the overall prestige of the event and the different brands that were able to receive

the ultimate award that highlights the latest creations. Once again, the spectacle of this ceremony has progressed with a perfectly organized, a parade of the most beautiful yachts of the show and a final firework display that gathered more than 10 000 people on the Croisette. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at the Carlton for their professionalism and the quality of the meal, Victoria Silvstedt for bringing a bit of glamour to this competition, all our sponsors, Nissan Awlgrip and Opacmare who have been following us for several years now, and above all the drivers of the city of Cannes who put in a considerable amount of work to organize the parade. According to most of the professionals gathered, the World Yacht Trophies represent the one and only award recognized worldwide for its various selection criteria and results, so don’t hesitate to come and join us in 2022 for an edition that will be as spectacular as ever.

PERSHING 6X - LENGTH: 18.94 M

CANADOS 631 - LENGTH: 19.35 M

In keeping with the spirit of the X series developed by the famous designer Fulvio De Simoni, this new model, powered by 3,100 MAN horses, flirts with the fateful 50-knot top speed mark. Always ideally combining performance and aesthetics, this Pershing offers a new dashboard with two 19-inch screens and electro-hydraulic steering. A large sunroof enhances the contemporary and refined interior of the salon. Available in a 2/3 cabin version with a crew cabin depending on the international market, the 6X always makes brilliant use of its living space.

This new model confirms that performance is once again the order of the day for the Italian manufacturer. With the possibility of sailing at up to 50 knots in top speed, everything on board has been optimized to obtain the best possible performance by using high-tech materials such as carbon, Kevlar and honeycomb bulkheads. Weighing just under 18.5 tones with a 2,000 horsepower Volvo Penta engine combined with surface drives, the Canados 631 consumes just 5.5 liters per mile at 35 knots. The Canados is not only a performance boat, but also a very livable boat with three double cabins and an incredible headroom.

ABSOLUTE 60 - LENGTH: 18.66 M

EXPLORER 62 - LENGTH: 18,90 M

The 60 Fly from Italian manufacturer Absolute marks the launch of a new range called “Absolute Prisma”. This evolution is identified by the location of the owner’s suite at the front, an aft cockpit free of all fittings and numerous aesthetic and technical modifications. Modularity takes on its full meaning on board the 60 Fly and it can even be said that this is a first for a unit of this size. With this new fully customizable stern, Absolute proves that it is still possible to innovate in yachting by providing modern solutions perfectly adapted to the use of international yachtsmen.

Designed by the Centrostiledesign studio, the Explorer 62 is a brand new model that stands out for its innovative character, its different living spaces, its panoramic saloon and its dynamic capabilities. Powered by a pair of Volvo Penta IPS pods, the Explorer 62 is capable of speeds up to 25 knots. The stern is fitted out with a huge bathing platform and an easily accessible garage located between the two symmetrical staircases that lead to the main deck. The main deck offers a large lounge and dining area that opens onto the cockpit thanks to an ingenious mechanism of sliding windows.

PARDO E 60 - LENGTH: 18 M While retaining the style of the Open, the Endurance 60 has been designed with a hull specifically adapted to offer the best possible performance when used for economical cruising at 12 knots or at her maximum speed of 25 knots. The Endurance 60 also marks the intervention of the Nauta Design studio for the realization of the fittings and the interior decoration. In line with the new trend, the Endurance 60 will have “folding” bulwarks over the water to increase the view and form a leisure area at cockpit level of approximately 33 m2.

AZIMUT 53 FLY - LENGTH: 16.78 M By opting for IPS pod propulsion, the aim of the new Azimut 53 Fly is to offer maximum habitability with a layout of three double cabins plus a crew cabin. Designed by Alberto Mancini, this 53-footer takes up the genetic codes of the brand with a maximum glass surface that allows to remain in total proximity with the sea. The cockpit has a larger surface area thanks to a rear bench seat that is offset above the transom. In keeping with the current trend, the 53 has been fitted out with a real deck saloon at the front incorporating a bench seat and a huge solarium. The interior decoration, always very contemporary at Azimut, was created by the shipyard’s in-house studio.

SUNSEEKER 65 SPORT YACHT - LENGTH: 20.50 M Aesthetically, the new Sunseeker Sportyacht gains in aggressiveness thanks to a flybridge perfectly integrated in a fully glazed superstructure. With a very compact IPS pod drive, the 65 offers a spacious beach club capable of carrying a williams jet tender and other toys. The outdoor saloon has a large sun deck with a table that can be enlarged to suit the number of guests. Without altering its sporty configuration, the boat has a superb forward saloon with a bench seat and a second solarium. In the same spirit, the flybridge remains quite spacious with a third solarium and a very original central steering position with two modern retro dials.

AZIMUT 68 FLY - LENGTH: 20.98 M Alberto Mancini designed the Azimut 68 in keeping with his style to achieve a sporty and modern design. The interiors have been designed by Achille Salvagni with an elegance that reinforces the feeling of well-being on board. In the hull, four cabins and three bathrooms can accommodate up to eight guests in absolute comfort, with a separate space for one or two crew members. Propulsion is provided by two Volvo IPS 1350 engines, which allow a maximum speed of 32 knots. Extensive use of carbon fiber in the upper parts, the hard top and part of the deck, gives the yacht a lower center of gravity to ensure optimum stability.

BG 72 - LENGTH: 22.71 M Strongly inspired by the BGX 70 launched in 2019, the BG 72 is the latest addition to the walkaround hull series developed by Bluegame. Taking up the fabulous principle of the fully modular stern in total connection with the sea and the main saloon, the BG 72 offers outstanding habitability and ease of movement. Two superb staircases lead directly to the upper deck with a huge sundeck, a well-sheltered dining area and an enclosed wheelhouse totally protected from the wind. The marine spirit of the Bluegame brand developed by Luca Santella, Zuccon and Louis T Codega for the hull is still very much present.

AZIMUT MAGELLANO 66 - LENGTH: 20.15 M The Magellano 66 joins the 25 Metri in perfectly combining habitability, transparency, and comfort. The layout of the boat has been specially designed to ensure a high degree of privacy for passengers and crew. Access to the sleeping area with four double cabins is via a separate staircase in the saloon. The second generation “Dual Mode” hull offers smooth sailing even in rough seas with exceptional stability at anchor. Powered by two 850 hp MAN engines, the Magellano 66 can reach a maximum speed of 23 knots.

SUNSEEKER 88 YACHT - LENGTH: 26.38 M The Sunseeker perfectly respects the brand’s DNA with a superb line that skilfully combines sport and elegance. It is immediately recognizable by the black structure above the wheelhouse which seems to form a single unit with the flybridge. Particularly spacious and protected in the central part by a rigid hard top, it can also be equipped with a jacuzzi as on larger units. The stern can be fitted with the optional X-tend folding sofa system, as well as several storage spaces and a rain shower. CUSTOMLINE NAVETTA 30 - LENGTH: 28.43 M

SUNSEEKER 90 OCEAN - LENGTH: 27.10M

The Navetta 30 marks a new chapter in the evolution of the brand. With a length of 28.43 m and a width of 7.30 m, the Navetta 30 is the result of a collaboration between the product strategy department headed by Mr. Piero Ferrari and the engineering department of the Ferretti Group. The yacht is the first project whose exterior was designed by Filippo Salvetti and whose interior was designed by the Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel architecture and design studio. The Navetta 30 has three comfortable decks and a total space of over 320 square metres, accommodating 10 guests in five cabins, with a master suite located on the main deck and four guest cabins occupying the lower deck.

A new addition to the Sunseeker range, the Ocean 90 with its near vertical bow boasts around 20% more living space than a conventional unit. The view and natural light have been particularly developed on board with the presence of very large bay windows in the saloon in addition to a transparent roof above the wheelhouse. Another very innovative feature: in addition to its very user-friendly and modular bow, the Ocean 90 offers a very original stern with a 24 m2 bathing platform that can easily carry a jet-ski and a 4.60 meter tender. The Ocean 90 is also equipped with an X-tend system that allows you to enjoy a large solarium on the platform or cockpit level. 55

The AB 100 Superfast fulfils its contract perfectly because with its three MTU totaling 7,800 horsepower coupled with waterjet transmissions, it sets a new record by reaching 60 knots in top speed. The other advantage of this propulsion is that with a draft of only 1.30 meters, it can navigate in the shallow waters of the Bahamas for example. The shape of the stern has been completely redesigned to accommodate a garage with enough space for a 4-metre tender. A particularly ingenious new system has also been put in place

The famous Italian manufacturer Overmarine is expanding its range with a new 31-metre sports model designed for the first time by the Russian-born designer Igor Lobanov. The stern with its soft shapes is fitted with a superb, rounded settee and a huge garage capable of accommodating a 5 meter tender and a jet ski. The contemporary interior design, very similar to a land-based home, was created by the same designer. The propulsion system of this new yacht will remain in line with the spirit of the brand with two 2450 horsepower MTUs associated with KaMeWa S 63-4 water jets to flirt with 35 knots in top speed.

At just under forty meters, the Azimut Grande Trideck is now the brand’s new flagship. The Trideck is the result of close collaboration with Alberto Mancini, who designed the exterior, Achille Salvagni for the interiors, and Pierluigi Ausonio who worked with Azimut Benetti’s Research and Development department on the naval architecture. Named Three Decks Plus One, the Trideck offers a new layout configuration with an aft extension of approximately 30m2 located just above the beach club. With its extensive use of carbon and D2P hull, the Trideck can reach a maximum speed of 24 knots.

FERRETTI 1000 - LENGTH: 30.13 M With a waterline length under 24 meters for simplified commercial certification, the Ferretti 1000 is currently the largest model produced by the Italian brand. To maximize the space on board, particularly in the owner’s suite, a wide-body configuration has been chosen. As on the other units, the feeling of being in a second home on the water has been strongly developed with large furniture and an extraordinary transparency. Among the many original features, the Ferretti 1000 has a forward saloon extending over two levels and a large stern with a bench seat. Powered by 2 MTU 16 V 2000 M86 engines, the Ferretti 1000 claims a top speed of around 24 knots.

SANLORENZO SL 120 ASYMMETRIC LENGTH: 36.92 M

SL 120 Asymmetric is the new name of the flagship of the Sanlorenzo asymmetric line. The concept of asymmetry gives rise to a layout that generates greater use of interior space and better communication with the outside areas. In this model, Sanlorenzo has applied the asymmetrical configuration only in the living area of the main deck. The concept of the asymmetrical line was born from the meeting of several creative talents: Chris Bangle, car designer, the technicians working for the shipyard and Bernardo Zuccon, responsible for the exterior lines and interior fittings of the boat. 57

She stands out for her interesting performances, obtained thanks to her aluminum hull and her three MTU 16V2000 M96L engines associated with three KaMeWa water jets that push her to 31 knots. The straight bow gives this yacht a modern look, enhanced by the presence of large windows that allow plenty of natural light into the main salon. The decoration is in a contemporary style with a plant wall separating the saloon from the dining area as the main original feature.

Far from being content with a simple walk down memory lane and a simple update, Benetti, in collaboration with Francesco Struglia for the exterior lines and Lazzarini Pickering Architetti for the interiors, has revisited an old bestseller to give it a delightful rejuvenation that includes all that technology can offer. The stern of the boat has been designed to offer a huge bathing platform when the transom is folded towards the sea and, in order not to clutter up this place of relaxation, the garage is accessible from one of the yacht’s free edges. Another special feature of this model is the intimate lookout above the sundeck with a solarium, a first for a unit of this size.

CDM EXPLORER AURELIA - LENGTH: 39.40 M The exterior design, architecture and naval engineering bear the signature of Hydro Tec, which has collaborated with Cantiere delle Marche since its creation. The balanced superstructures, the almost vertical bow, the huge cockpit on the main deck are not just aesthetic choices, they have been designed to face long ocean crossings in the most extreme weather conditions. Among the Flexplorer’s highlights are the folding bulwarks that expand the cockpit area and the professional-style crane that allows an 8.5-metre tender to be hoisted safely.

LÜRSSEN NORD - LENGTH: 140 M

Underneath her military appearance, this superyacht designed by the tandem of Nuvolari & Dan Lenard hides a world of great luxury with two helipads. One of the two placed on the sundeck even benefits from a retractable garage. The North is characterized by a bow defended by a huge stainless-steel grille incorporating the ship’s name, a signature that can also be found on the outer sides of the bathing platform. The hull has many openings to easily carry a Windy SR 52 limousine tender. The four exhaust outlets located under the rather small sundeck betray the presence of two MTUs developing a little less than 6,000 horsepower each to push this gigantic yacht up to 20 knots in maximum speed.

Cannes Yachting Festival

2021

All the autumn shows, including La Rochelle, Southampton, Genoa, Cannes, Monaco and Fort Lauderdale, have finally returned with restrictive sanitary rules, but the main thing is to have been able to return to almost normal activity. The figures revealed during the multitude of conferences we were able to attend and the numerous exchanges with the professionals of the sector show that the industry has resisted rather well to the pandemic with substantial order books. The only difficulty is that some components that are essential for the operation of engines are still difficult to obtain. Text : Franck Van Espen Photos : D.R.

SYLVIE ERNOULT General Commissioner of the Cannes Yachting Festival

After a one-year break, the Cannes Yachting Festival is back in force to the delight of professionals and yachtsmen. Sylvie Ernoult presents her show with passion and sincerity.

What has changed in 2021? We have had to face many changes with new reservation systems, volume and queue management but we have tried to make it as simple and easy as possible. Apparently the result has not been too painful for our visitors. We have created an area reserved for small electric boats with about ten boats on display. The offer is starting to become interesting. For hydrogen we have the Hynova, the Energy Observer having unfortunately preferred to be at the GP Sail in Saint Tropez. There is also a space reserved for innovation in Port Canto, which is represented by start-ups oriented towards sailing. These nuggets financed by “Mer Angels” deserve to have visibility. Innovation at the moment often leads to ecology, so we made a “green route”, a sort of green line that leads to eco-friendly products, but we came up against the fire brigade’s safety regulations. So we had to revise our idea, but all products that use green energy or are built with ecological materials or that combine the two, are stamped green. How is the industry doing? The industry is doing very well and as a result, the show in general is doing quite well. Our sales team is doing an excellent job and there is a real desire to exhibit at Cannes. We can consider ourselves quite lucky, because in other sectors the situation is more difficult with drops of up to 40%. The professionals are selling. Of course there are stock problems, the consequences of production stoppages and a crucial lack of personnel, but we all have the same problems of recovery. On the other hand, after two years of downtime, people are much more motivated than before. With almost 600 exhibitors, we are reaching the same goal as in 2019. Is the separation of sailing and motoring definitively accepted? Port Canto is proving to be a very suitable place for sailing and catamarans. From the first day of the show, I knew it was the right thing to do. And on the second day when I saw the queue to get in, I thought it was a sure thing. There was just a little reluctance on the part of the shipyards, which have a foot in both worlds, sailing and

motor, but this quickly faded when they saw the greater attendance. Two places means two teams, but this is already the case at the Paris Boat Show or in Düsseldorf. The visitor who comes must have the choice with at least 80% of the brands that must be exhibited. Were you able to win a few places? Not really. The boats used to be too tightly packed and we had to save space. When we opened on the other side, I was finally able to air out the different spaces. Everyone is 95% happy with this separation. The final objective is that the end visitor can find his way around. When you have a big show, you have to guide the visitor. All the big yachts are now placed on the extension. When we expanded the engine area, we developed the areas for small, medium and large yachts. After that came a new segment with motor catamarans, which are huge beasts to place. Do you believe in the development of virtual boat shows? Technically, the manufacturers can sell boats virtually, but that is not enough. I’m not too afraid of the virtual, each shipyard has to sell its dream in a virtual way but afterwards the builders find themselves in competition, especially in Cannes on the water. I don’t yet know the strategies of my group tomorrow, but for my part I don’t want to go virtual.

What do you think you will be able to develop over the next few years? I think that at a certain point we will have limits. The development in numbers will be quite difficult because mechanically I don’t see how to do it. The evolution will surely be done with the products, bringing out niches such as the all-electric. We have to follow the market and depending on the products, we will be able to find other areas of interest but we will never be able to have more than 800 boats unless we install a pontoon offshore. There are also a lot of security problems. I will find other solutions but I don’t want to become more restrictive with the profession. Give me some time.

MED 42

A competitive package After the release of its 52, the French builder is expanding its range by launching a 42-footer built on the same principle. Its naval architecture is realized by the Vaton cabinet but with an exterior and interior design imagined by Enrico Gobbi, well known in the superyacht world. With this new collaboration, the 42 gains in aesthetics, luxury and modernity. Her perfectly protected deck plan allows you to move around in complete safety to reach the foredeck, which is equipped with a magnificent solarium and a bench seat. The functionality of the Med 42 is also one of its many strengths. In addition to the ingenious modularity of the dining area, there are two large lockers in the bow and

on one of the sides to hide accessories such as life support. There is also a garage in the transom to carry a 2 metre dinghy, diving gear and possibly a Seabob. A very large hydraulic submerged bathing platform completes this wonderful place to relax. The Med 42 is not only a day boat with a living area of 1.95 m headroom capable of accommodating 4 people. The standard version of the Med 42 is already very pleasant, but the designer has also created a slightly more luxurious version with premium materials. Priced at just under 680,000 euros with this equipment and an IPS propulsion system, the Med 42 is certainly one of the most competitive walkaround day boats in its category.

After having been one of the first to experiment with cockpit extensions with folding bulwarks over the water, Evo Marine is launching a new concept that relies on certain configurations such as the two steering wheels found in the sailing world or the significantly rounded stern. The design, by Valerio Rivellini, is very pure and particularly successful, with totally new features such

A staircase integrated in the stern can be electrically extracted to facilitate swimming. The interior is equally original, with a fully glazed saloon that provides an almost 360 degree view. Opting for the more powerful Volvo Penta IPS engine, the V8 can glide along at up to 24 knots in top speed.

SARVO MARINE 70 knots in silence

Created by three Danish entrepreneurs, this day boat inspired by an old minesweeper is a small technical and aesthetic revolution in many ways. Using recycled materials such as aluminium for its hull, the Sarvo 37 aims to have the smallest possible environmental energy footprint. Her deck is entirely covered in synthetic teak and her sole power source is an electric motor developing 1,280 horsepower. This reliable and compact super power is transmitted to a specially designed surface mounted propeller, capable of handling phenomenal torque. This unprecedented combination drives the boat at speeds of up to 70 knots. A power that corresponds to four Porsche 911 Turbos according to the calculations of engineers from

the electric hypercar world. The range, depending on the weather conditions, would be 70 to 100 miles if sailing at 10 to 20 knots. Recharging would be limited to about fifteen hours with a 32 ampere, 400 volt module and can be reduced to one hour with a system developing a power of 360 kW. The interior of the cockpit is clad in weatherproof leatherette with shock absorbing suspension seats that can be swung around to face the bench seat. Without a davit, the Sarvo 37 is equipped with an ingenious submerged chain hoist that gently hugs and conceals the anchor when sailing. Featuring incredible technology, the Sarvo 37 certainly marks a big step into the future.

Top of the range chase boat Although the latest addition to the Wajer range was not officially exhibited at the last Monaco boat show, we were able to admire this magnificent aesthetic achievement in one of the basins of the Port Hercule. Keeping the signature of the brand with a magnificently “tuliped” hull up to the stern, this Wajer does not leave indifferent. With its imposing hull and hard top beautifully integrated into the windscreen structure and its contemporary colour, the 77 reveals a rare elegance on the water. Perfectly balanced, she has a true forward deck saloon with solarium and dining area with its counterpart aft. The central part of the boat, which houses

the wheelhouse and a second relaxation area, is perfectly sheltered from the wind and UV rays. Despite the presence of three Volvo Penta IPS 1200s for maximum speed of 37 knots, the volume in the hull is sufficient to provide a garage for a Williams jet tender and two cabins: a VIP cabin in the bow and the owner’s cabin in the centre. Two more berths are available in the third cabin located opposite the galley. With this magnificent flagship, Wajer enters a new universe in which it is not forbidden to envisage very beautiful cruises or why not remain in the world of superyachts by becoming a “chase-boat” of very high range.

ROSSINAVI POLARIS High-tech engineering

With a length of 70 metres, Polaris is currently the largest yacht built by the Italian shipyard Rossinavi. Previously known as the King Shark project, Polaris is a 1,542 GT yacht capable of sailing from the warm waters of the Caribbean to the polar zones. Enrico Gobbi of Team for Design, a long-time collaborator of Rossinavi, designed the exterior and interior of this unit. Among its main features, Polaris has an owner’s deck with a lounge cooled by a waterfall. The decoration, like the staircase that connects the different decks, is extremely refined, with a multitude of precious objects, marble floors

FEADSHIP VIVA The star of the show

Built for an experienced and environmentally conscious shipowner, Viva features a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system to cruise at up to 20 knots in top speed with a Tier III catalytic system that minimises its particulate emissions. Other technologies have also been deployed for insulation and waste treatment. With a significant amount of space reserved for windows, considerable work has been done to optimise the efficiency of the air conditioning to avoid excessive energy consumption. This transparency is an essential element of the exterior design by Feadship Studio De Voogt and Azure. It also plays a key role in

and crystal light fittings. A 6-metre infinity pool, located at the rear of the main deck, is equipped with a balneotherapy system. Polaris also has a large garage for up to six jet skis and two tenders, including a 10-metre limousine fully customised by Rossinavi. The yacht’s engine room, which spans two levels, is incredibly well engineered to house the latest generation of diesel-electric propulsion. Polaris is powered by two Azipods equipped with variable pitch propellers to find the best performance at different speeds. At 12 knots its range is approximately 6,500 miles.

AK YACHTS VICTORIOUS A sundeck with a fireplace

The genesis of this yacht was complex, with the keel being laid in 2006 at the Chilean Marco yard. The project, taken over by New Zealand yachtsman Graeme Hart, was brought back to New Zealand to be completed. During construction, she was sold again to a

new owner who sent her to AK Yachts in Turkey for final completion. H2 Yacht Design was chosen to carry out the fittings and interior design. The owner also decided to extend the yacht by six metres to install a beach club with a surface area of approximately 200 m2, including a magnificent swimming pool, a gym and a hammam. With an exterior configuration quite similar to that of an explorer with a Lloyd’s and MCA LY2 classification, Victorious has a completely clear aft deck to carry an 11.60 metre aluminium catamaran tender in addition to an offshore 38 Fountain and a semi-rigid, not to mention a multitude of toys. The lower deck also includes a children’s playroom with a huge cinema room just behind the corridor that distributes the twelve guest cabins. The large forward area has a helipad to join the yacht in any remote anchorage. The originality of Victorious is also to have with its semi-enclosed sundeck a relaxation area to have a drink or smoke a cigar with friends. With its two 1,475 horsepower Caterpillars, Victorious has an incredible range of 14,000 miles. Barely delivered to her owner, this yacht is already being offered for sale through Burgess for €125 million.

BAGLIETTO CLUB M The V line

This new Baglietto belongs to the V line series, a range of semi-custom yachts entirely in aluminium which was designed externally by the Italian designer Horacio Bozzo and which has a semi-displacement hull type. Club M has a fairly slim, semi-straight bow that allows her to glide at up to 17.5 knots at top speed under the thrust of two reasonably powerful Caterpillars. Her exterior spaces are generous with a huge forward deck saloon including a dining area, a solarium and a skylight designed to naturally light the owner’s suite. On the same level, the sundeck is perfectly protected from the sun in its central part by a canopy supporting the electronic

equipment. The aft space is fitted with a superb jacuzzi accompanied by two rounded bench seats for perfect visual harmony. Inside, the Achille Salvagni signature is immediately recognisable with an abundance of circular shapes, whether in the ceiling, the bulkhead design or the furniture. Each element has been specifically designed to fit harmoniously into the overall yacht. The owner’s suite occupies the full width of the foredeck and opens to one side to form a beautiful outdoor terrace. Carefully finished and uniquely decorated, Club M is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful creations of the Italian builder Baglietto.

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

2021

FORT LAUDERDALE INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW 2021 A smooth start Located in the largest marina in the world, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is a reference in the world of boating. Every year in the autumn, the event allows the market to be gauged with a first assessment of the past season, and also allows the discovery of a number of world premieres announcing the next season. To understand the importance of this show, we must look at the figures. More than 1000 exhibitors and nearly 1200 boats on display. About 100,000 visitors in five days, 8,000 full-time jobs, 72,000 hotel nights booked and nearly 1.3 billion dollars in revenue generated for the city, it's a dream. Text : Dominique Salandre Photos : the author and D.R.

A record year As soon as we entered, we discovered a show that was much more modest than in other years. With a smaller overall surface area, many spaces were free. This was due to the absence of many foreign brands or simply of staff who, because of the borders that were still closed at the time, were unable to attend. The show therefore appeared more American than ever. If the market is beginning to suffer from a lack of boats, the year 2021 was still marked by record sales, particularly in the first-time buyer segment, and there was no real cause for concern. To fill some of the vacancies, brokers were called to the rescue, leaving their traditional zone to invade a good part of the show and this, in all sizes. America is still America and the surrounding madness was there. In addition to the traditional “supercars” and other customised jeeps

with oversized tyres, there were a number of outrageous powers on the pontoons, including 425 hp Yamaha, 450 hp Mercury Racing and of course 600 hp Mercury. The prize for outboard power this year went to Cigarette, who equipped the Tirranna 59 with 6 x 450 hp Racing, i.e. 2700 hp outboard... who could say better.

Few previews In terms of new products, there were a few good surprises, such as the Azimut Verve 42. Pursuit also unveiled the 358 Sport while Boston Whaler exhibited an anniversary version of the 420 Outrage. On the large size side, Horizon presented the PC 60 Deck Master, a motor catamaran designed for cruising, and for the offshore fans, Nor-Tech lifted the veil on the new 460 Flyer. In short, a transitional show while waiting for better days.

AZIMUT VERVE 42 Conviviality and sportiness

Buoyed by the success of the 47, Azimut has launched a slightly smaller model in the Verve series, the Verve 42. The Verve 42 offers a nice cockpit area, a space that expands thanks to the folding bulwarks and the large bathing platforms that surround the engines. This area has a large L-shaped bench seat with a central table that can be lowered to form a large solarium. An outdoor kitchen with grill allows for a picnic while a refrigerator and large cooler built into the floor will keep drinks cool. Finally, on the port side, a television can be removed from the cabinet if required. Another convivial space is available on the bow with a large bow-rider that can easily accommodate six people around a table and, again,

the whole can be transformed into a solarium. The sleeping area offers not only a large convertible saloon, but also a small kitchen, a nice bathroom with separate shower and a good-sized mid-cabin. Decorated in a modern and sober manner, the boat is full of storage space, which is always practical. As for the piloting part, the crew has three individual and adjustable seats while the two large Raymarine screens display all the necessary information. The cockpit is ergonomically very good and the finish is very good, as is the whole boat. The only thing left is the engine, and in this area, with 3 x 450 hp Mercury, the shipyard has not gone easy on the engine, as the boat can reach 45 knots.

VIKING 64 CONVERTIBLE The reference for sport fishing

Known to all coarse fishing enthusiasts, the Viking brand is now a reference in this field, having sold more than 550 units in the 60 to 70 foot segment in twenty years. The new 64 Convertible should not break this virtuous circle. In the manner of luxury car brands, Viking is constantly innovating, while maintaining a timeless style and elegance. Aesthetically, the 64 does not break any codes. A large cockpit with a magnificent fighting seat, a bench seat leaning against the cabin and wooden sides that sound like modern sculptures. Once through the electrically operated door, the main deck is organised around a saloon, a dining area and a large galley with bar. The whole area has been modernised with more contemporary co-

lours. A little lower down, the night area offers four cabins including the famous owner’s room with the transverse bed. These cabins also benefit from a modern treatment with, for example, completely redesigned doors. The finishing touches are exceptional and the equipment is of course very complete. The helm station is located on the flybridge, which also has a lounge seat in the front. From there, you can also control the trolling rods. Constructed from fibreglass and composite, the 64 is lightweight and is available with a choice of six Man, Caterpillar or MTU engines, from 1,550 to 2,025 hp. The Viking 64 will also be offered in an enclosed flybridge version.

RIVIERA 645 SUV A very innovative deck plan

The SUV range of the Australian builder Riviera has been a great success and the 645 SUV was therefore eagerly awaited. For the occasion, the shipyard has taken up the idea of the double cockpit with a first part very open to the rear including a grill, two iceboxes and a livewell and a second more cosy part including two sofas. Another remarkable point is that the foredeck has a very large seating/solarium/picnic area, all of which can be protected by a shade sail. area, driver’s station and bar, the 645 SUV has three or four cabins depending on the version chosen, and four bathrooms. The owner’s cabin occupies the entire width of the boat. The only drawback is that it communicates directly with the crew cabin and the engine room. The atmosphere is quite contemporary and the customer can choose between a classic pack or a much more modern decoration with the Newport Edition pack. To move the 40 tonnes of cargo, you can opt for 2 x 1300 hp Man V8 or 2 x 1550 hp Man V12.

More surprisingly, between this bow-rider and the cockpit there is a cabin with a toilet, a mini kitchen and a sofa, or, on request, a double bed. Without the optional hard-top, the boat looks even sportier. The boat can be powered by up to 1,800 hp, which gives it a speed of almost 60 knots.

OCEAN ALEXANDER R 35 A very European concept

Designed by Evan Marshall and Arrabito Naval Architects, the 35 R is the flagship of the Revolution series. Built to stay just under 300 tons, the 35 R makes no sacrifice in comfort. One enters the ship through the beach club with a small lounge, refrigerator and guest toilet. Nearby, there is also a sauna and a gym area. The main deck opens onto a very large volume bathed in light thanks to the huge windows. There is a large dining room and just behind it, the dining area. Then comes the owner’s cabin which occupies the whole front part. The lower deck has four cabins, each with

its own bathroom. An ingenious door hidden behind a niche gives access to the crew quarters, which are particularly well treated. The flybridge houses an equally efficient control station and a very nice saloon with bar and jacuzzi. A huge sunbathing area on the bow with a large bench seat and table is an incredible spot to relax at anchor. The R35 has a powerful design with a forward bulbous hull for smooth sailing. Ocean Alexander has chosen a dual MAN engine with a combined 3,800 horsepower to achieve a top speed of 23 knots.

The luxury of a yacht, the space of a catamaran Horizon continues to develop its catamaran range with the arrival of the PC 60 Deck Master. Taking advantage of its experience in yachts, the builder delivers here a boat with luxurious features. In addition to a cockpit largely covered by the rear of the flybridge and offering a bench seat and a large table, the boat stands out for its very large main deck. This space includes a beautiful kitchen with a central island, a small sofa on the port side and a saloon on the forward side, with an unrestricted view. In fact, each model delivered by the shipyard can be extensively customised. The floats

The 53 Sueños is only 53 feet, but still impressive. In addition to the sheer volume of the cockpit, the boat offers a large galley with grill and fridge. The bow has a V-shaped seat and a lounge seat. The electric table can be used for a meal or as a solarium. In addition to the comprehensive instrumentation, the boat offers two rows of seats, all

well sheltered by a T-top. Even though it is an open boat, the HCB offers a good-sized cabin with a double bed, a small kitchen and a real bathroom with a separate shower. Of course, the boat has air conditioning, a Sea Keeper and the list of equipment can be extended. The most impressive feature, however, is the propulsion, as the Sueños can be powered by up to 4 x 425 hp Yamaha, 5 x 450 hp Mercury or 4 x 600 hp Mercury. In fact, as this is a semi-custom build, the manufacturer does not state a maximum power rating, so it’s up to you...

SUNSEEKER SUPERHAWK 55 Revival of a successful series

The British manufacturer Sunseeker is back in the world of open hard tops with the Superhawk 55. This new model is characterised by a stern that is completely open to the water and extended by a huge immersible bathing platform. Many of the aesthetic details in stainless steel have been inspired by high-end automobiles. The cockpit layout includes a large central cabinet concealing a galley and a TV screen. In addition to the two user-friendly symmetrical aft seats, the Superhawk 55 has a large sun deck that also serves as storage for boating equipment. An easily accessible

garage will accommodate a 3.25 metre Williams tender with several Seabobs. The cockpit, with its three seats in the centre of the cockpit, provides excellent visibility and a good feel for the overall balance of the boat when sailing fast. A side companionway leads to a luxurious saloon, well lit by a generous skylight. The sleeping area is then distributed with a VIP forward and a master suite occupying the central part of the hull. The propulsion of this open hard top will be provided by two IPS Volvo Penta 950 pods to reach a maximum speed of 38 knots.

PEARL 72

Two independent masters Pearl, by choosing to establish itself in a top-of-the-range sector, is beginning to make a name for itself among the major British shipyards. The 72, which fits between the 62 and 80, still benefits from a naval architecture designed by Bill Dixon and an original interior decoration based on New York city life, designed by Kelly Hoppen. To differentiate itself from the strong competition in this sector, the 72 offers an original interior layout that includes two independent masters, one forward and a second central one accessible through the saloon with two guest cabins and crew accommodation. Her garage is also capable of carrying a 3.45 metre

Williams tender and a jet ski. A feat accomplished in terms of habitability with traditional propulsion provided by two MAN engines developing 1,400 horsepower each associated with a shaft line. This is more than enough power to push this 72-footer up to 32 knots in top speed. The flybridge is particularly spacious with a transparent guardrail at the rear to take advantage of the wake. As on the 95, the hull will be equipped with two side extensions to enlarge the bathing platform and take full advantage of the sea and its various leisure activities. It is with this kind of detail that we appreciate the modernity of a manufacturer.

With a strong personality, the 56 FLY has been created to fascinate boat owners with a mixture of innovation and functionality. A new approach to layout has been developed to increase freedom of movement and habitability. With this in mind, the cockpit has no fixed furniture. Each user can arrange it as they wish. Absolute offers versatile furnishing solutions throughout this new range. In this 56 Fly,

the visual limits disappear thanks to the increase in glass surfaces, both inside and out. In order to benefit from a good headroom and a good view of the outside, the master has been installed in the forepeak of the boat. The very comfortable VIP occupies the central part of the hull just behind a third double cabin. The very contemporary and refined decoration remains another strong point of the brand.

PRESTIGE X60 A V-drive version

After the X70 launched last year, the Prestige brand completes its new range with the X60. In the same vein as its big brother, this model favours spaciousness with a single gangway on the port side and an interconnecting door near the interior cockpit. In keeping with the current trend, the X60 offers a modular saloon in the bow that can be used as a dining area or solarium. In the same spirit, the transom of the boat unfolds to form a comfortable bench seat located near the hydraulic bathing platform. The interior layout has been specially designed to favour the view outside and to distribute the night areas with total privacy for the owner’s suite thanks to a private access to the entrance of the saloon. Guests can enjoy two

cabins forward with the possibility of having one or two bathrooms. An aft cabin is also available in the stern for a child or crew member. Great attention has also been paid to the interior design by Valentina Militerno, well known in the field of luxury real estate. The furnishings have been selected from prestigious brands: Duvivier for the sofas, Roda for the outdoor furniture, Bowers & Wilkins for the audio systems and Foglizzio for the leather. Another very interesting feature for those who want a durable and low-maintenance propulsion system, the X60 is available with a V-drive transmission associated with the Cummins QSC 8.3 developing 600 horsepower each or with a Zeus pod transmission.

GREENLINE 58 FLY An Italian designer

This all-new 58 Fly will join the range to fill the gap between the popular 48 Fly and the 68 Ocean Class. It also marks the beginning of a new partnership between Greenline Yachts, Marco Casali of Too Design and MICAD Engineering. Casali has designed a new exterior look with very balanced proportions. The location of the galley at the entrance to the saloon creates better connectivity with the interior and exterior areas. The cockpit shows ingenious flexibility with a bench seat that can be converted into a dining area. The stern is more user-friendly with a bench seat in the transom and a submersible bathing platform that can support a 500kg tender. In its standard version, the Greenline 58 is fitted out with three double cabins

plus one for the crew, the VIP being in the forepeak and the master in the centre of the hull to take advantage of a headroom of 1.96 metres. As the pandemic has changed our way of working in most cases, the third cabin can be replaced by an office space with USB and HDMI sockets, computer and plenty of storage space. The front part of the fly is covered by 11 solar panels that can provide nearly 3.6 KW of energy to limit the use of the generator at anchor. A hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system is proposed with two Cummins of 715 horsepower each to power this 58-footer at up to 30 knots of maximum speed. In electric mode, its range will be approximately 30 miles at 6 knots.

Always a visionary, the Italian manufacturer Azimut has completed its Grande range with the 26 Metri, which enters the world of “pocket” superyachts, whose aim is to offer distinct spaces for passengers and owners. The boat has a new, more modern look with a multitude of soft shapes and transparent surfaces that have increased significantly, especially in the owner’s suite, which will occupy the entire width of the foredeck. The new layout with five cabins plus crew will also be very popular if the yacht is operated as a charter yacht. The forward deck will be particularly dominant and will feature a true outdoor lounge with a dining area and a large solarium. Azimut also announces that it is working on the development of a new concept called “Seadeck” to modernise the configuration of the stern. The first realisations should appear in 2023.

FEADSHIP PURE A bold vision

Since 2006, Feadship has continued to focus on environmental protection. It started with the F Stream, which set the tone with a radical reduction in fuel consumption by opting for a hybrid drive. Five years later, Savannah, the first motoryacht to use this propulsion method, was launched. Other prescient concepts inspired Feadship’s owners to innovate in areas such as environmental protection, multi-functional spaces, outdoor recreation, slim hulls, privacy and all-glass superstructures. Pure synthesises all the know-how

acquired in recent times about the different types of outdoor spaces that can be created. The essence of Pure lies in the unparalleled visual and social connections offered by its innovative architecture. As futuristic as it may seem, this project is immediately feasible. Depending on the delivery date, Feadship offers three types of motorisation: 2024 with diesel-electric hybrid for a range of around 120 miles in the second mode, 2027 with methanol, which will offer optimum fuel efficiency, or 2030 with a fuel cell with almost zero emissions.

BAGLIETTO B ZERO Seawater as fuel

With six orders booked and 13 yachts currently under construction, the legendary Italian shipbuilder Baglietto is doing particularly well. In response to the general trend, it is also moving towards modern and innovative propulsion systems designed to reduce the impact of yachts on the environment. This new challenge at Baglietto has been named B Zero. Baglietto’s first B marks a strong and decisive commitment to reach the ultimate target of zero emissions. The project, whose primary objective is to increase the electric range of ships in zero emission mode, consists of integrating hydrogen fuel cell technology on a hybrid or diesel-electric platform. Baglietto, the project leader, will be surrounded by six internationally renowned partners, whose design and development teams are all based in Italy. Arco Fc, Blue Energy Revolution, Enapter, H2Boat, Rina and Siemens Energy will work together to produce a fully functional 1:1 scale prototype in Baglietto’s shipyard by 2022. This know-how will then be applied to yachts to be delivered in 2025. The B Zero system foresees the implementation of a hydrogen produc-

tion module that will use filtered and “de-ionised” seawater through a system of AEM electrolysers (for a total power of about 55 kW). The electrolysers will be mainly powered by energy from renewable sources (photovoltaic panels) and/or the electricity grid, with the aim of producing as much “green” hydrogen as possible.

TANKOA APACHE Three pools

With a total length of 76 metres and a width of 12.5 metres, the steel and aluminium Apache project is based on a brand new technical platform, with exterior styling and interior design by Alberto Mancini. Inspired by modern architecture, Apache’s clean exterior lines are like the feathers of an arrow. They reinforce the yacht’s dynamic appearance with minimal bulwarks to open up the view outwards and provide a greater connection to the sea. Apache’s beach club is a key feature which, when the side decks are deployed, extends to a 125m² area with a flooding pool. The main deck saloon and dining area is 118m². Four guest cabins will be spread out on the main deck to take advantage of the very large windows. A semi-open gym and a luxurious VIP suite forward will occupy the forepeak. The master suite will be on the middle deck with direct access to a

9.5 metre long ‘infinity pool’. The bottom of the pool is made of glass to provide diffused light into the semi-open saloon including the gym on the lower deck. The interior styling will combine a sophisticated mix of soft fabrics and Loro Piana silk upholstery, warm oak flooring and nubuck to create a luxurious and understated atmosphere. The lower deck will be largely reserved for crew and service areas, with a pro galley adjacent to the mess, laundry, cold and dry rooms, and openings in the hull for rapid ship supply. A cinema adjacent to the lobby and lift will provide entertainment during long voyages. Two engine options will be available: Caterpillar C 3512E (2 x 1901 kW) or MTU V 4000 M73 (2 x 1920 kW) engines to glide at up to 16.5 knots in top speed. At 15 knots, the range should be 5,000 miles.

MERVEILLE YACHTING A project validated by Feadship

Merveille Yachting is the result of the association of two French entrepreneurs with extensive experience in the yachting industry. The first, Nicolas Cantenot, a former naval officer and owner of a 50-foot sailing boat, has built up his experience in the luxury sector within the Hermès group. Jérôme Vollet, a composite engineer, started building a 40-foot sailboat at a very young age. He has also worked with some of the greatest sailors such as Tabarly, Steve Fosset and Loïc Peyron. Eco-responsibility is the key word for their new 77-metre project, which is entirely designed to have the lowest possible environmental impact. Amongst the main points, this revolutionary yacht will be powered by a hybrid engine with sail assistance provided by two totally rigid wing masts that will automatically adapt to the strength of the wind and the direction of the ship. This technical feat is the result of col-

laboration with the French architectural firm VPLP (Van Peteghem Lauriot Prévost), which has an impressive track record in the field of regattas, and the French company Ayro, which designed this type of mast, known as “Oceanwings”. In terms of design, this project with its almost straight bow shows real elegance with low superstructures that allow for a very large deck area. This type of vessel also offers other significant advantages such as reduced fuel consumption, superior sailing pleasure, a general reduction in noise pollution, virtually no vibrations and considerable autonomy. Another positive point is that the realisation of this project has been fully endorsed by Feadship, one of the world’s leading manufacturers. There is no reason why this new yacht should not appeal to an owner who is passionate about innovation and eco-responsibility.

OCEANCO KAIROS A new lifestyle

Oceanco, Pininfarina and Latéral have joined forces to revolutionise yacht design with the 90 metre Kairos. Drawing on its long experience in custom projects, from automobiles to architecture, Pininfarina has created, in collaboration with Oceanco, a whole new sailing experience. The heart of life on board is the vast central square that distributes all the decks. Developed vertically on three levels, this square breaks with the canons of conventional yacht design. A complex design that combines striking asymmetrical shapes, transparent structures and an absence of physical barriers. Kairos’ cabins have all been placed on the lower level, allowing for a greater sense of space and fluidity on the main deck.

Kairos was created on Oceanco’s NXT initiative to protect the environment, thanks to Lateral’s naval architecture and technical development. In recent years, the shipbuilder and the naval architecture studio have partnered on a number of innovative projects, including Black Pearl, the world’s greenest yacht, and Bravo Eugenia, the first superyacht to reduce its energy footprint by around 30%. Her propulsion and power generation system will be fully hybrid. This will allow for flexibility in space distribution with a single level engine room layout. With a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, Kairos will be capable of sailing at up to 16 knots with certification from Lloyd’s Register.

ISA AYRTON 63 Inspired by the automobile

The exterior and interior designs are by Enrico Gobbi of Team for Design, who also developed the three 50, 63 and 70 metre models in the range. Naval engineering is provided by Palumbo Superyachts. The first model presented is the 63-metre ISA Ayrton, whose design is inspired not only by the sporting elements of the automotive world, but also by natural forms. Certain elements are clearly identifiable, such as the five transverse openings in the owner’s cabin, which are reminiscent of fish gills. The beach club extends to the sides through two

side openings with a central pool that extends to the swim platform. The sundeck will be dedicated to wellness with a panoramic gym and a Jacuzzi at the front. The ISA Ayrton 63 will accommodate 12 guests in 4 double cabins located on the lower deck, with a VIP cabin and owner’s suite located on the main deck. With two 1800hp Caterpillar 3512 C engines, this displacement superyacht will have a top speed of 17.5 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots for a range of over 5000 nautical miles at 12 knots.

Absolute 60

ABSOLUTE 60 The new wave

The 60 Fly from the Italian manufacturer Absolute marks the launch of a new range called "Absolute Prisma". This evolution is identified by the location of the owner's suite at the front, an aft cockpit free of all fittings and numerous aesthetic and technical modifications. We invite you on board this small architectural revolution. Text : Franck Van Espen Photos : D.R.

Absolute designs and builds luxury yachts from 47 to 73 feet in three ranges: Navetta, Flybridge and Coupé. The company, based in Podenzano, Italy, was founded in 2002. With their own high level of professional expertise, the various phases of design, planning and production are developed in-house. The manufacturer is now internationally renowned thanks to its network of dealers who work hand in hand with the company. The first two models of the 60 Fly were ordered by the American importer. The factory, which covers an area of 48,000 m², uses geothermal and solar solutions to control environmental impact. In addition, a filtration system purifies the air inside the production site and unused materials are fully recycled. With this new boat, Absolute confirms its commitment to its customers’ philosophy by offering a unit capable of adapting to the different demands and needs in terms of layout. The cockpit of the

nels indicating the position of the bow cabin. The side bulwarks are now ‘cut out’ so that the floor-to-ceiling side windows in the saloon can let in more light. But the main change is in the stern, with a near-vertical rear structure incorporating air vents reminiscent of old American limousines. This new inspiration really brings new blood to the design by offering a particularly interesting bathing platform configuration. The bathing platform, equipped with a hydraulic lifting mechanism, can easily carry a tender weighing up to 400 kilos. To be in total connection with the sea, the transparent railing allows you to enjoy the superb panorama towards the wake. Modularity makes sense on board the 60 Fly and it is a first for a unit of this size. This very interesting proposal is likely to be emulated in the yachting world. The solution proposed by Absolute in collaboration with a supplier of outdoor sofas is particularly ingenious in meeting the different needs of international users. Around an extendable table, the sofas can be moved into a multitude of possible positions to enjoy lunch, an aperitif or to contemplate the landscape. Another small technical feat by the manu-

facturer is the installation of sliding curtains that electrically unfold from the ceiling to create an intimate zone and protect passengers from the sun. An extension is even offered if deckchairs are installed on the very wide bathing platform. The main solarium remains on the foredeck and is safely accessible via wide, secure gangways. Like a gangway, they are now protected by the upper part of the fly. As can be seen from the various assemblies and the fittings integrating LEDs in the roof structure, the level of finish is particularly high. The same goes for the fittings and the various deck fittings, which are of good dimensions. The fly offers a fully customisable aft area and the hardtop discreetly integrates an extendable bimini to protect this area from UV rays. A first for Absolute: the surface of the hard top is completely covered with solar panels totalling 1,500 W to ensure perfect energy autonomy provided the air conditioning is not used. Although the operation of the generator is particularly discreet, the neighbours at anchor will appreciate it.

Absolute 60 The interior fittings Hard to imagine from the outside, but the stern of the 60 Fly “Prisma” has a superb aft cabin for two people, which even has the luxury of a washing machine. After passing through the shower room, we enter the engine room which is well occupied by the two Volvo Penta pods and the various equipment such as the 19 kW generator, watermaker, converter and tanks. The Seakeeper 9, on the other hand, is positioned under the aft cabin companionway. Space is generous with good mechanical accessibility and the soundproofing seems to have been meticulously taken care of. As in the cockpit, the saloon is available with different combinations of layouts possible. While the galley and main settee remain fixed, other furniture solutions are offered with two sideboards or a dining area at the entrance. One thing is for sure, the decoration is still very warm with a superb oak parquet floor and very careful cabinetry which also remains one of the strong points of this interior as well as the indirect and relaxing lighting. The cockpit has a side door for quick access to the forward anchorage area, with excellent visibility. Two 17” Garmin touchscreens provide an easy-to-use inThe decoration is always warm with a custom-made cabinetry designed by the shipyard.

waves without the slightest parasitic creaking in the structure of the boat. The trim reacts perfectly under the effect of the flaps to find the best possible position manually. At full throttle, the 60 Fly will stabilise at 29 knots with 7 people on board and ¾ of the tanks. A correct performance considering a reasonable power which allows not to ruin itself in consumption. In economic cruising mode at 20 knots, the 60 Fly consumes 180 litres per hour, giving a range of around 300 miles, a result within the norm for a boat in this category. The IPS propulsion remains efficient in terms of comfort with a noise level of 70 decibels in the saloon during cruising. Faithful to this transmission since its creation in 2002, the builder has certainly acquired a great deal of experience in the assembly of this propulsion.

terface and house the bulk of the instrumentation and onboard controls. A forward thruster complements the joystick assistance for pilots with some manoeuvring apprehension. The central descent leads to the night zone with a configuration offering three double cabins. To offer more volume, a better view of the exterior and a circulation plan without a difference in level, Absolute has preferred to place the owner’s cabin at the front with a shower room occupying the bow. There is plenty of storage space and the decoration has been taken up a notch with sophisticated walls and furniture carved from the same wood. The result is superb, as are the bathrooms with their marble flooring. The central part of the boat includes a beautiful VIP cabin and a guest cabin, each with its own bathroom. Seamanship and performance As usual, the 60 Fly pulls out of its berth with consummate ease. The engines run very quietly and the third steering position above the cockpit furniture will be particularly appreciated when manoeuvring. A particularly calm sea will not put this new hull in difficulty, but as we crossed our wakes several times, we were able to notice a certain smoothness when crossing the

The rear part of the hard top on the fly hides a retractable awning. A side door near the interior cockpit allows quick access to the forward deck.

In conclusion With this new fully modular stern, Absolute proves that it is still possible to innovate in yachting by providing modern solutions perfectly adapted to the use of international yachtsmen. Combining comfort, innovation, luxury and total sailing pleasure, the 60 Fly “Prisma” is certainly a very nice proposal that should soon influence the whole range.

Windy SR 60

With more than half a century of experience, it is impossible not to be familiar with the Windy brand, which has established itself in France as a reference in the world of dayboats. With higher prices than its competitors, the brand has always distinguished itself with quality boats that age well and sail well. Originally from Oslo, Windy moved to Västervik in Sweden to take advantage of the superb facilities close to the water. Windy is one of the few manufacturers that test all its boats for several hours to reduce service problems. The factory, with a staff of around 100, currently has a production capacity of around 120 boats per year. Windy’s objective is not to build a multitude of boats on a production line, but rather to offer products that are particularly well cared for, with quality being the key word. With its qualified workforce, the manufacturer responds favourably to the creation of certain entirely custom models, but this remains very marginal. The SR range was born a little over ten years ago with the release of the SR 52 Blackbird. A model specially designed to be the escort boat for a yacht of more than 50 metres and which opened the doors to a new market for Windy. It was an immediate success and more than 30 models were built, with chase boats accounting for almost 2/3 of the market. The range has now been extended to include other models ranging from the 26 footer to this new 60 semi-custom that we are discovering on its home ground. The exterior fittings For the hull, the design and the fittings, the shipyard approached the English naval architecture firm Malcolm Mckeon, which brought all its experience in the field of gliding while respecting the DNA of the first Blackbird. Dressed in a superb black Awlgrip lacquer, the yacht does not leave anyone indifferent with its racy lines and a superb roof that skilfully follows the shape of the windscreen. Low to the water and perfectly protected by a thick rubber rail that avoids the presence of fenders, the SR 60 exudes a sense of power and functionality. The latter is evident from the first step on board with a huge bathing platform that

Yachts Europe 04.indb 121

incorporates an electrically retractable bathing ladder. The circulation plan is remarkable. The walkaround configuration and carbon handrails allow safe access to the foredeck. A comfortable bench seat neatly hugs the lower part of the steering console, just behind a huge hold capable of holding several fenders or other equipment, but the detail that catches our attention is in the forepeak. In order not to detract from the purity of the line, the stainless steel anchor is stowed in a box with a powerful and efficient lifting system that becomes a robust davit at anchor. All of the elements that make up this mechanism have been the object of particular attention with quality fittings to ensure perfect operation. The various cleats that run through the boat have also been carefully selected to fit in with the overall modernity of the SR 60. The designer has opted for a minimalist dashboard, consisting mainly

29/11/2021 16:34

on board

of three large 17-inch Glass Cockpit dials. The optional FLIR camera allows day and night coastal viewing, magnifying some of the shoreline detail for optimum safety. The three seats, similar to those behind the galley, allow the pilot to be accompanied by a folding seat, which is particularly useful when standing. The fixed table, which benefits from perfect protection thanks to the extension of the hard top, can comfortably accommodate six guests thanks to a rear bench seat formed by a backrest that can be adjusted on the solarium according to needs. The solarium also covers the engine room, which houses the three Volvo Penta IPS 650s with an advanced central engine to facilitate maintenance operations and improve the overall balance of the boat. The excellent level of finish seen on the outside is also found in this technical area where everything is carefully fixed with an electrical cabinet worthy of a large yacht.

The Windy 60 SR is completely covered with a superb black Awlgrip lacquer. The floor of the boat conceals a multitude of storage spaces.

The interior fittings The cabin is accessed by sliding a thick plexiglass door that disappears under the dashboard. As her French designer explains in the box, storage space is important and a mini wardrobe has been installed on the port side. A second galley, made up of a superb carbon piece, incorporates several cupboards, a second fridge and a sink. For a perfect visual harmony, all the corners are replaced by rounded edges. This is another detail that reflects the enormous amount of work put in by the construction site, which was a little worried about the overall complexity of the project when it was received. The natural lighting is satisfactory with numerous openings and several skylights. A generous bench seat hugs the bow of the boat around a table that does not lower to form a large bed, the side seats being wide enough to act

Windy SR 60 as a bed. The staircase, which is a beautiful piece of woodwork, gives the impression of floating in the air. This configuration allows the users of the aft cabin not to feel locked in and to take better advantage of the volume existing in this 60-foot boat with a sporty character and essentially dedicated to daily outings. The quality of the assembly of the various pieces of furniture is exemplary with a strong presence of oak. Seaworthiness and performance This is certainly one of the strong points of this boat. Moored alongside a quay and despite a strong crosswind, the SR 60 pulls out of its berth with ease thanks to the joystick that precisely controls the movement of the two side pods. The bubbling of the underwater exhausts is almost louder than the operation of the engines, which are perfectly insulated under the rear solarium. Without a gyro stabiliser, changing steps does not cause any lateral movement. A very low centre of gravity and a large hull width are certainly the reasons for this excellent result. Although I had some reservations about the sporty use of pods on a boat of this type, this impression was quickly dispelled once the boat was up to speed. Under the effect of the triple propulsion, the hull is quickly relieved of the liquid element and gives the impression of sliding easily. A glance at the Garmin display shows that at only 2,500 rpm we are already doing 22 knots, without the slightest vibration and with a very low noise level. The second key point is the reasonable fuel consumption at this speed, with the three engines consuming only 124 litres, giving a range of around 740 miles. It is easy to understand why the shipyard has allowed itself to be tempted to use a triple engine on this first model

The SR 60 is powered by three Volvo Penta IPS pods, which are particularly effective on this unit.

instead of a more powerful double engine, which would certainly not have achieved such a high level of comfort. Loaded with twenty or so people and full of water and diesel, the SR 60 makes rapid progress with phenomenal torque and we find ourselves at nearly 40 knots in just a few seconds. The wind completely covers the engine operation and the imposing wake at the rear is a testament to the hull’s ability to ride the waves formed that day only by those of our displacement. With its knife-sharp bow, the SR 60 literally cuts through the water without the slightest jolt. On board, no suspicious noise will betray the

The staircase is a magnificent piece of woodwork. The overall finish is exemplary, as is the boat as a whole.

The exterior layout is fully customisable to the owner's needs. The back of the solarium can be moved to form a bench seat.

A FRENCH INTERIOR DESIGN Guillaume Rolland of Liaigre in Paris designed the interiors of the Windy SR 60 as well as those of the 60-metre mothership currently under construction at the Dutch shipyard Vitters. If the project initially scared the yard a little, the final result is superb. How did you get into yachting? I’ve been sailing since I was very young and I already wanted to be a naval architect. But instead of revising my geography and as I wasn’t very good at mathematics, I studied architecture. Later I got caught up in doing interiors of big ships and was happy to go back to a field I love. The SR 60 is the first opportunity to do a boat of a size I knew when I was young. So I was very excited to design an interior for the first time that wasn’t a superyacht. When I arrived at Windy, I saw that their slogan was ‘Spirit of Scandinavia’. When I was young, I used to race Swans and I was impressed by these boats sailing on the Baltic. It was already a reference. So when I saw the brand’s interiors I didn’t feel that spirit, so I wanted to make a boat for people who really sail.

slightest assembly defect, just like the hard top which will remain totally rigid when sailing fast. The SR 60 is certainly cut out for the high seas and it is not out of the question to imagine an even sportier version with a more powerful triple engine that could approach 50 knots in top speed. In conclusion The Windy SR 60 is not really a boat like the others. With an incredible quality of construction and an exemplary triple drive, this luxury chase-boat offers unique sensations and extraordinary sailing pleasure. It is certainly one of the best boats in its category, designed by a builder who listens perfectly to his customers. Moreover, Windy is capable of adapting to a certain form of semi-customisation. It is easy to understand why a second model has already attracted another shipowner.

A huge hold located just in front of the front bench seat allows for easy storage of fenders and mooring lines.

Did the owner have any particular requirements? We started with a blank sheet of paper to study the best possible arrangements for the captain to be able to live on board. There are two independent berths with reading lights and a system for plugging in your phone, which can be used for sailors or teenagers. The equipment is not the same as on the “mothership”, but we have high quality switches made in France by a workshop called Meljac. The carbon parts, such as the whole kitchen and bathroom, have been subcontracted to a factory that has done an incredible job. Everything has been studied to optimise ergonomics. I have a 29 foot unit so I know what space issues mean on a boat. Brushed and stained oak was chosen for all the wooden parts. We chose a black lacquer to make sense with the exterior. We did a lot of work on the perception of quality. There is also a particularly interesting fashion night on this boat.

SUNREEF POWER 100 The champion of space

The latest creation of the Franco-Polish shipbuilder deserves all the superlatives. Bigger, wider and more spacious than its 80-foot predecessor, this new technological challenge pushes the limits of construction even further. Text : Franck Van Espen Photos : D.R.

The story of Sunreef’s power catamarans began in 2008 with the meeting of the racing driver Laurent Bourgnon. After a lifetime of sailing the oceans, the skipper wanted to discover the planet with his family without depending on the vicissitudes of the wind. An inveterate catamaran enthusiast, Laurent Bourgnon turned to thermal propulsion with the aim of finding the best possible performance using a very low engine on a 70’. He then met Francis Lapp during a car rally, and the two men became friends and agreed to build the brand’s first motor catamaran. The Bourgnon Sunreef collaboration was excellent and the first 70’ was an immediate commercial success. From then on, a ‘Power’ range was launched with a 60’ which quickly followed. Another series called Supreme was then launched, offering incredible habitability and numerous innovations in terms of equipment and fittings. Sunreef then forged an excellent image in the design of luxury semi-custom catamarans. Alone in this market, the builder experienced exponential growth, which led to the launch of a new range, completely redesigned by the shipyard’s in-house office and en-

gineers. An exceptional ambassador for the brand, the famous tennis player Rafael Nadal swapped his old Monte Carlo Yachts for a Power 80’. He was later joined by Rosberg and Alonso in F1. Demand for the boat grew and after a 70’ and 60’, Sunreef won an order to build a 100’ in composite in a few months. A phenomenal technical feat that went hand in hand with the development of a new, ultra-sophisticated factory located just a stone’s throw from the old one, which is still in operation.

The living room covers an area of more than 100 m2 with four slopes leading to the different night areas. The kitchen is isolated from the living room by a wall that is made opaque by activating an electric gas.

The exterior fittings For this catamaran, the shipyard has remained faithful to the design developed on the first model. The whole is covered by a superb Awlgrip lacquer composed of two different shades. From the first step on board, one is immediately surprised by the exterior spaces. The virtually flat floor plan from front to back with huge sidewalks is impressive and cannot be compared to a larger monocoque. A central hydraulic platform allows a 5-metre tender or up to 1,200 kilos to be hoisted. The three crew members who are expected to run this

yacht for private use will appreciate the simplicity of the dinghy launching mechanism, as well as that of the garage which carries two three-seater jet skis. The bottom tilts to form a launch ramp by means of an electric control: simply brilliant. The outside is covered by a huge solarium that can be used as a dining area. On the starboard side, a “day toilet” avoids having to move around inside and on the other side, a meridian is stuck against the wall to enjoy the wake while sailing. Two hatches occupy the aft part to access the engines and the various equipment of the boat. The electrical installation is neat. Two other lockers are placed just in front of the saloon’s bay window. The opening is spectacular, with a sliding system like in a house. The foredeck extends over a flat surface of about 60 m2 on which a gigantic solarium has been fitted with two symmetrical benches equipped with courtesy lights. In order to limit the number of trips, a door has been integrated into the windscreen to allow direct access to the lounge. A huge laundry room with four Miele washing machines is accessible through

two central hatches. The fly is another huge area on board the Sunreef Power 100. Protected for the most part by a roof with several skylights, it houses a second wheelhouse perfectly protected from the wind, a bar, a dining area and a large Jacuzzi at the stern. As in the cockpit, the entire space can be completely enclosed by crystal tarpaulins stored in special fittings in the ceiling. Interior fittings To achieve the same width in a monohull, you would have to sail at least a 70-metre boat. It is therefore easy to understand how the main saloon can extend over a surface area of more than 100 m2. Without the slightest delimitation apart from an electrically opaque glass partition at galley level, the first impression is of a modern loft with an integrated gym, bar and lounge. The only dining area to make the most of the sea is outside. The decoration, entirely designed by the in-house office, is superb. The quartz bar strucAccess hatches are provided for easy access to all technical areas of the boat.

THE SUNREEF SHIPYARD A SPECTACULAR RISE With more than 150 yachts delivered to the four corners of the planet in less than twenty years, Sunreef has become the leading builder of luxury catamarans in the world. In order to surpass this performance, its creator Francis Lapp bought a magnificent state-of-the-art facility in the suburbs of Gdansk in Poland last year, which required an investment commensurate with the brand's development. Sunreef won the order for a 50-metre composite catamaran last year and mould making has already begun in two huge sheds with cranes capable of hauling 300 tonnes. To build this giant of the seas, Sunreef has the largest CNC machine in Europe, capable of making customised parts up to 30 metres long. The figures are also in line with the extraordinary dimensions of the boats. The company employs 1,800 people a year, 300 of whom work in the administration, design and R&D departments. At the same time, 42 boats are under construction and the new 20,000 m2 yard consists of 6 production halls. With a full order book and the launch of a new range of fully energy self-sufficient boats, the future of Sunreef is not at all worrying.

ture is subtly enhanced by internal lighting. This very futuristic look seems to be in contradiction with the seats and armchairs opposite, but this mix of genres creates a somewhat baroque universe. The ultra-minimalist central galley shares the wheelhouse space on the starboard side and the sports area on the port side with a muscle machine and a treadmill. The air-conditioning, barely visible or audible, has a low-energy system that runs solely on batteries for a few hours. Two bunkers, perfectly integrated into the floor, lead to the technical areas where the batteries and electrical cabinets are stored. Four companionways distribute the areas in the skids. The first on the starboard side leads to a first VIP and then a second to two other cabins.

The third on the opposite side leads to the captain’s cabin and the fourth to the owner’s cabin with a huge shower room, plenty of storage space and a superb view of the outside. A fifth VIP cabin completes the living area. The other crew members will be able to enjoy two cabins following the front of the floats. Seaworthiness and performance Unlike other manufacturers, Sunreef does not use the hulls of its own yachts for the motor versions. The Power 100’s hull is unique and has been entirely designed in the shipyard’s internal offices with propulsion provided by two 1,300 horsepower MAN engines connected to shaft lines for minimal maintenance. The starting of the two engines is virtually inaudible from the upper cockpit, which has an excellent view for

manoeuvring. With its 20,000 litres of fuel, the Power 100 has a transatlantic range with the possibility of covering a distance of approximately 2,700 miles at 12 knots. At this speed, the Sunreef is very quiet and the sound is always very discreet. The two particularly sharp hulls cut through the few waves we encounter in the bay of Gdansk with great comfort. At full throttle, the two Man engines rev up to 2,350 rpm and push the Power 100 to 18.5 knots without the slightest vibration and in absolute comfort. The electro-hydraulic steering is extremely precise. In conclusion With the Power 100, Sunreef has created a yacht that is out of the ordinary, offering incredible habitability and optimal comfort. The build quality is of an excellent level with a particularly high level of luxury. The Franco-Polish builder once again confirms its position as leader in the field of top-of-the-range semi-custom catamarans. Tarpaulins are stored in the hard top structure to completely close the fly. The aft part is occupied by a jacuzzi surrounded by two sunbeds.

Wally WHY200 The bathing platform incorporates an ingenious Opacmare system that acts as both a bathing ladder and a crane for launching a tender.

Wally has decided to make a strong comeback in the motor yacht market with the WHY200, which is its first hybrid yacht. WHY stands for Wally Hybrid Yacht and the number 200 represents its tonnage in volume, a rather exceptional value for a unit of this size. The famous brand, internationally renowned for its minimalist yachts, never stops innovating. Its founder and still co-shareholder, Luca Bassani, now devotes himself exclusively to the design of the units produced by the shipyard after handing over control of Wally to the Italian Ferretti group in 2019. The result is surprising with this unit, whose aesthetics will surprise many. It is the result of a joint effort between chief designer Luca Bassani, the engineering department of the Ferretti Group and the naval architecture firm Laurent Giles NA. The interior design was entrusted to A.Vallicelli & C Studio. Wally has always specialised in the production of high-end open speedboats. With the WHY200, the shipyard has chosen a fundamentally different option by presenting a very compact unit that offers the comfort and interior volume of a 32-34 metre displacement yacht with the performance of a semi-displacement hull. The exterior fittings When the yacht is first presented, we immediately notice her high, slightly inverted bow which gives her a conquering air. The straight, sharp lines give the yacht a modern look. We then discover the cockpit which offers a living space dedicated to both dining and sunbathing. The cockpit is generously lined with teak wood, giving it a warm atmosphere. The table is positioned in an original way with large sunbathing mattresses covering the two side garages. Once the

folding bulwarks are deployed on the port and starboard sides, the yacht offers a 32m2 beach club that gives access to the sea on three sides. The WHY200 also has two garages that provide ingenious storage for a 4-metre dinghy and numerous water toys. “Enjoying the outdoors while staying protected” could be the motto of the WHY200. Recognising that owners increasingly prefer not to expose themselves to the elements while enjoying the outdoor environment, Wally has provided sufficient protection from the sun, wind and rain on its 144 m2 of outdoor decks. The outdoor saloon is framed by glass side panels that house the cockpit and provide unobstructed views on three sides. The extended roof translates into a larger upper deck aft, allowing for more space to lounge on sun loungers or sit around the shaded dining area. This fly also has an enclosed area that houses the skylounge and wheelhouse. The whole is elegantly glazed and has a carbon superstructure that echoes the sleek, angular aesthetics of the brand’s legendary ‘Wallypower’ motor yachts. Access to the foredeck is through fully glazed side doors to increase natural light.

29/11/2021 16:36

Wally WHY200 The interior layout The removal of the main deck side decks has increased the habitability compared to a yacht of the same size. If we sometimes miss the impossibility of reaching the stern in the traditional way, we must admit that the interior volumes are considerably increased and transform life on board. This is the very principle of the “wide body”, a concept that has been very popular in the USA for a long time and is now making its way to Europe. In total, the WHY200 offers over 200 m2 of interior space, including 22 m2 on the upper deck and 100 m2 on the main deck. The large saloon, built across the width of the boat, offers 61 m2 of space. In the middle, a central staircase in carbon fibre of the most beautiful effect serves the lower and upper decks. As soon as you enter the saloon, which is treated as an “open space”, with an independent toilet on starboard and access to the crew quarters on port, you find a galley-bar with a subtly integrated cooking hob. Two large, symmetrical L-shaped sofas furnish the saloon, which is surrounded by large windows. The volume gives a feeling of freedom, as if luxury were space. The centrepiece of the WHY200 The headroom of the guest cabins is quite unusual for a yacht of this class.

is the 37m2 owner’s suite located at the front of the main deck. It has a panoramic view with 16 to 18 millimetre thick glass windows. They surround the suite almost without interruption, apart from the structure’s uprights, to provide a view of almost 200 degrees. The result is simply breathtaking. Luca Bassani likes to comment on his experience, which we share: “Imagine the feeling of waking up to an uninterrupted 200-degree view through the vast glass windows in the bow, as if you were floating above the water. The lower deck offers a classic layout of 3 to 4 en-suite cabins. The choice of propulsion has also increased the living space, and the crew quarters for 5 people are also very large, with a surface area of 32 m2 including a kitchen, three cabins and two bathrooms. Seaworthiness and performance We tried out the WHY200 in the Cannes harbour in good weather and with a fine sea. On board we are a dozen people and the tanks show 1400 litres of water and 7000 litres of fuel. Our boat is equipped with four Volvo Penta D13 IPS 1350 engines developing 1000 horsepower each. This powerful engine allows us to reach a maximum speed of 23 knots. The future buyer can also opt for a slightly lower power with IPS 1200 of 900 horsepower guaranteeing a top speed of 20 knots. The boat, which appears to be quite high up on the water, keeps a perfect trim when sailing. This so-called

It’s hard to find an equivalent boat with so much living space, both inside and out.

“hybrid” hull performs just as well at 10 knots in displacement mode as at 20 knots in semi-displacement mode. Luca Bassani admits that finding the balance between these two displacement modes was not an easy task. But we must admit that the result is there. To ensure a comfortable life at anchor, the WHY200 has a wide and stable hull and two stabilisation systems with ailerons and gyroscopes. The other strong point of the yacht is its range of 1000 miles at a speed of 10 knots, which makes long distance cruising possible. Conclusion The WHY200 challenges many preconceived ideas and raises questions on a number of points. If its aesthetics are original, it must be acknowledged that it is unique and daring. As Stefano de Vivo, Wally’s managing director, explains: “With this yacht we are challenging many preconceived ideas about what a yacht should be and how it should be used. As far as a certain lifestyle is concerned, this WHY200 brings a lot of new blood to the organisation of spaces and volumes. Luca Bassani, responsible for the design of the Wally, explains that by choosing the name WHY200, we wanted to emphasise a volume (200 GT) rather than a length. A few weeks later in Monaco, the designer announced that two examples had already been sold. This new space revolution seems to have met its public, which is eager for comfort and design.
