OPTIMISTIC SIGNS
After a summer season that has perfectly lived up to its promises with as many yachts as ever in the most beautiful bays of the Mediterranean, the Cannes and Monaco shows give a taste of the first economic trends of the world yachting market. The initial findings are quite encouraging: rarely have we seen so many new and original products in a range between 40 and 260 feet. The market is really interesting with some spectacular and distinctive units such as the BGX 70 from Bluegame, the Sirena 88, the Ferretti 720, the Absolute Navetta 68 and the Pershing 140 – the latest stroke of genius from Fulvio De Simoni, once again rewarded as Designer of the Year at our recent edition of the World Yachts Trophies. A record edition with some 800 respected industry colleagues and VIPs gathered on Cannes’ Carlton beach and 35 trophies that crowned the most beautiful and best yachts in the world, all in an increasingly festive and prestigious atmosphere. For September 2020, we will organize ourselves even better, increasing capacity, to be able to respond favourably to the many requests that we were not able to satisfy this time. Yacht sales figures speak for themselves: celebrating its fiftieth anniversary, the Azimut Benetti group exceeded 900 million euros in turnover. For Fer-
retti Group, it was one of the best shows in Cannes with an order book representing a total of 465 million euros, an increase of nearly 18% compared to the previous financial year, while for LVMH’s Princess Yachts it is also euphoria (and Plymouth Gin & tonics all round) with 270 boats delivered in 2018 compared with 230 in 2017. All these excellent results are not only limited to the giants of yachting – the small Franco-Polish manufacturer Sunreef, after launching its first motor catamaran, with the late Laurent Bourgnon, just over as decade ago, has now signed a contract to build a 49-metre that will hold the title of the world’s largest motor catamaran! Even shipyards such as Cantieri Di Pisa, Mondomarine and Wider are back in business with new investors ready to embark on new adventures. It would thus appear that the economic climate is particularly favourable and, for our part, we will do everything possible to develop this wonderful global industry, simultaneously remaining aware of the need to protect the environment, surely one of the most important battles of the coming years. Let’s ensure that future generations on the Carlton beach will bear witness to both 100% clean yachts parading in front and automobiles behind, with sea levels and water quality they thank us for. CCN (Italy)
DOM 123 Project After the launch of the Vanadis, the Italian CCN shipyard, based in Carrara, and Chinese-owned Camper & Nicholsons are pleased to announce the sale of the DOM123 project, a 37-metre superyacht with an exterior and interior design by Stefano Vafiadis. Camper and Nicholsons New Build Division assisted the owner from the preliminary phase to the signing of the contract. According to Diego Deprati, CEO of CCN “The sale of this yacht represents a strategic step for our shipyard, it is the first model of a new line called “Firma”, the result of cooperation between the yard and major international designers and naval architects such as Studio Vafiadis. With
the “Firma” series, CCN confirms its positioning in the medium-size yachting sector with a well-defined personality and style. The hull of this new yacht will be semi-displacement to accelerate up to 16 knots at top speed under the thrust of two Caterpillars each developing 1622 horsepower. At 10 knots, its range will be about 4,000 miles. The DOM123 project includes six cabins with an owner’s suite located on the main deck with a private terrace. Inspired by larger boats, this new semi-displacer will be equipped with a lift that will connect the lower deck to the sundeck. As construction has begun, delivery of this new CCN is scheduled for 2020.

GRUPPO PERMARE A family business
For Amer Yachts, September 2019 was not be quite like any other month. After an excellent professional season, the boat show kick-off month also gave an opportunity to celebrate the 80th anniversary of its founder, Fernando Amerio. A man unlike any other who started his professional career as a simple mechanic and then went from salesman to yacht builder. His nautical heritage was recognized by Ucina in 2012 by awarding him the “pioneer of pleasure boating” prize. His company, founded in 1973, has employed quite a team, some of whom have since retired – a word that has no meaning for Fernando Amerio, who is still heavily involved in the company’s development with a lively spirit and always focused on innovation. Simple, humble, far from the spotlight, he has always been very close to his workers. For all these reasons, YACHTS Europe joins his children in dedicating these few lines to him: “We, from a Ligurian family, may be a little reserved in our feelings, but working with you has always been a very great privilege. The difficult decisions we made as a family at times generated titanic collisions, but they strengthened us to better face life’s challenges. Thanks to you, we have created a great team and a brand that is making us known for the principles you have always taught us: avoid waste, respect the people who work for us and take care of the environment. Values on which we have built our society and our families. On behalf of the entire Amer Yachts tribe, we dedicate this new Cento to you and your work. »
MARINEMAX ACQUISITION OF FRASER YACHTS One of the largest American brokerage firms “MarineMax” listed on the New York Stock Exchange has acquired the famous brokerage firm Fraser Yachts, which belonged to the Azimut Benetti group. With its 20 bases worldwide, including one in Monaco, MarineMax's objective is to strengthen the marketing of the Benetti brand in the United States. According to Brett McGill, Managing Director of MarineMax, this new acquisition is also the best way to increase MarineMax's presence globally in the superyacht sector. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

PEARL New 62 IPS
The British brand is complementing its fly range with a new 62-footer that will be powered by a pair of Volvo Penta IPS pods to optimize the living area. Four cabins will be distributed in the hull with a completely independent suite occupying the entire amidships. The yard, using facilities in China, has renewed its confidence in Bill Dixon for the design and naval architecture with Kelly Hoppen for the interior decoration, described as chic and modern. As on
the 95, this model will be equipped with a spacious garage that will accommodate a jet ski in addition to the tender, placed on the hydraulic bathing platform. The fly is vast with three distinct areas and a transparent bulwark aft that opens up the view of the quayside, bathers or wake. Initial predictions claim a top speed of 33 knots and a range of about 300 miles cruising. This new unit is set to be officially presented in DĂźsseldorf 2020.

DOMINATOR Growing Ilumen family
After the commercial success of the Ilumen 28M, Dominator is currently working on two other larger 36 and 38 metre models. Luca Catino, whose talent has already been expressed in the 28M range, will be responsible for the interior design of these two new projects, which aim to achieve a particularly high level of personalisation. On the 36M Ilumen, the main wish is to obtain a bright environment. The light tones contrast with the classic essences with subtle colour schemes that resemble the different shades of the sea. The interiors of the 38M Tri Deck Ilumen, on the other hand, were deeply inspired by a previous Ilumen 28M, Cadet V. Each Dominator has a high-tech carbon-fibre construction mixed with epoxy resin. The application of an “Awlcraft” lacquer allows an infinite choice of colours. The fuel tanks are integrated into the structure, which allows the centre of gravity to be lowered to improve the overall stability of the yacht. Insulation is also an essential point on which Dominator does not skimp. The choice of electric stabilizers instead of hydraulic stabilizers for the 38M Tri Deck further improves the level of comfort at anchor and when sailing. With the 38M, Dominator really enters the world of superyachts by offering a magnifi-
cent beach club that opens onto the sea, located just near a huge garage accessible from the side. If the location of the owner’s suite remains on the forward part of the main deck, Dominator offers the possibility of fitting out the upper deck just aft of the wheelhouse with a second owner’s suite in case of a joint acquisition. The engineering of the Ilumen range is managed by Andrea Agrusta and his team at the NavalHEAD studio. A 40M is currently being studied by extending the length of the 38M amidships but without changing its beam. The 38M Tri Deck Ilumen will be delivered with MTU M73L engines for a maximum speed of 21.7 knots at half-load. By opting for M93L engines, the objective is to reach 24 knots. According to Angela Pernsteiner, Dominator Site Manager, “Each project is unique. The Ilumen range has not only revolutionized our brand, but has also taken 38M Tri Deck’s engineering to the next level and now marks a milestone specifically dedicated to the brand’s 20th anniversary. We are looking for suitable facilities for the construction of these megayachts because our current shipyard is limited in height and quite far from the sea. Look out in the coming years to discover what Dominator defines as true works of art on the water!”

BENETTI Two new orders
FB 270 Benetti confirms its success in the Asia-Pacific region. Following recent sales of a Mediterraneo 116, a Fast 125 and a custom 50-metre, Benetti has just won the order for the first superyacht to sail under the Chinese flag, with a certificate issued by the China Classification Society. Among the many original features of this new project, FB 270 will have an owner’s suite that will cover an area of 160 m2. The exterior design is the work of a young upand-coming designer: Giorgio M. Cassetta. The interior decoration designed by the yard’s in-house studio will be based on colours that recall the sea, beaches and tropical islands. FB270 will be distinguished by the presence of day bathrooms on each deck and a multitude of technical areas and storage spaces. Particular care has been taken to separate crew flow from guest areas to ensure maximum privacy. FB270 will be delivered in the first half of 2021.
FB 278 Benetti is strengthening its order book with the sale of the 67-metre M/Y FB278 “Project Fenestra” to an experienced American owner. The purchase was negotiated by Northrop & Johnson, an international brokerage firm with offices in Asia, Australia, the United States and Europe. Born from the pencil of designer Giorgio M. Cassetta, the interior design expresses the owner’s passion for family, sport and well-being. The interiors were designed by Benetti’s Interior Design Department. This order follows the delivery of Spectre and Elaldrea+, two 69 and 49 metre custom yachts that reflect the growing interest in the American market for the Benetti brand. Cassetta’s exterior design fits perfectly into the interior spaces created by Benetti’s engineers. Seven cabins can accommodate up to 14 guests, with 10 more cabins for up to 17 crew members, including three doubles, for the captain, first officer and chief engineer. The owners specifically requested that the crew quarters include materials and furniture of a quality similar to those used in the guest quarters. The general arrangement of the “Fenestra Project” is developed on six decks: a sundeck, a wheelhouse deck, an owners’ deck, a main deck, a guest deck and a deck to accommodate tanks and technical equipment.

CANNES YACHTING FESTIVAL POSITIVE ASSESSMENT Despite a first day of opening under heavy rain, the 42nd edition of the Cannes Yachting Festival proved a success with more than 45,000 visitors, an increase compared to the previous edition. It seems that the separation between the sail area, relocated to Port Canto, and the power area, all grouped together in the old port, has borne fruit with a gain in space that has made it possible to exhibit nearly 650 boats from 2 to 65 metres, including 213 new boats and 127 worldwide launches. These figures attest that after more than three years of reflection and discussion with carmakers, equipment suppliers, engine manufacturers and brokers, the decision taken by Reed Exhibitions was the right one. Key figures of the Cannes Yachting Festival: 54,000 visitors • 650 boats from 2 to 65 metres •213 new boats and yachts • 47 brokerage boats from 22 metres presented at Port Canto • 168 yachts over 20 metres • 109 yachts over 24 metres • 57 catamarans including 13 power cats • 100 RIBs
TURQUOISE YACHTS Tala sold
Turquoise Yachts’ strategy is to further improve its high-end design, engineering and production to support its current expansion. As part of his new management structure, Patrik von Sydow, a Swedish national with experience in managing international engineering companies in both the maritime and automotive sectors, has taken over the general management. Mehmet Karabeyoglu, founder and initial shareholder of Turquoise Yachts, is responsible for sales and marketing. Mohammed al Barwani, retains his responsibility as a member of the Board of Directors with the addition of Dutch national Arie Van Andel, Technical Director of Oceanco, who also brings a wealth of experience to Turquoise Yachts. The 53-million Euro motor yacht Tala, which was originally a speculative project, has been sold. Both its exterior and interior design were created by Miami-based DeBasto Design. Tala has exceptionally large volumes for its size with 6 +1 guest cabins. Its stern is equipped with a large beach club with a sauna and a gym. Delivery is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021.
SANLORENZO PORTO CERVO SHOWROOM "Waterfront Costa Smeralda" is much more than a temporary luxury store, it is an elegant and charming showroom that, as its name suggests, unveils itself facing the sea in summer in the superb marina of Porto Cervo. For the second consecutive year, Sanlorenzo has created its own space, designed by artistic director Piero Lissoni, in order to offer all lovers of sailing the opportunity to get to know and experience the sophisticated and tailor-made world that the Sanlorenzo brand represents. This temporary boutique will also house exclusive brands such as BMW, Bentley, De Grisogono, Dolce & Gabbana and Technogym, which will display their products for fitness equipment enthusiasts. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

HODOR
"Support vessel" version XXL to accommodate virtually any specialist equipment. For this purpose, it has a lifting platform in the aft part of the vessel specially designed to quickly launch a 17-metre Nortech and also sports two cranes with a lifting capacity of 9 tonnes. They can easily hoist the Aurora 5 submarine, lifeboats, multiple jet skis, MasterCraft XT23, Novurania 24 and the aluminium catamaran specially built to land the four quads. Hodor also has a certified helipad to accommodate a twin-turbine AH160 helicopter and, despite this, an objective of the support vessel is also to limit its own environmental impact with the use of equipment such as a selective catalytic reduction system, a super sophisticated treatment for wastewater recycling and a compactor that reduces waste volume by over 85%. With its technical expertise, the Spanish manufacturer Armon aims to prove that the technical realization of this very specific type of vessel is not restricted to the Germans or the Dutch.

It is the Spanish shipyard Armon, well known for its semi-professional achievements, which manufactured this extraordinary 66-metre catamaran intended solely for the transport of nautical toys of her mothership. Her naval architecture was worked up by the Australian studio Incat Crowther, which also worked closely with the decoration studio Oliver Design based in Spain. This international cooperation has resulted in an extraordinary machine, made entirely of aluminium, which was completed in less than 16 months. The catamaran concept, with its natural stability and immense storage spaces, proves to be an excellent choice for this type of service. In terms of performance, Hodor can run up to 22.5 knots at full power. Its twin 2,832 kW MTU main engines are coupled via a ZF gearbox to a set of variable-pitch propellers. Hodor has a range of 5,000 miles at an economical speed of 13.2 knots. Entirely customized, Hodor has been specially designed

The other guest cabin has twin bunk beds, but can be equipped with a queen-size double. The hull was developed by engineer Roberto Prever of the Naos studio in Trieste to accommodate two Volvo Penta IPS 950 engines with 725 horsepower each. The first performance estimates are 34 knots at top speed with a total consumption of only 140 litres per hour at 22 knots. IMPORTER Vanguard Yachts (Golfe Juan)
OKEAN 55 IMPORTED INTO MED The Brazilian manufacturer Okean arrives on the Côte d’Azur through Vanguard Yachts, based in Golfe Juan. Two models will be on display at the 2020 Cannes Yachting Festival: the Okean 50 X, nominated for the WYT 2019, and the Okean 55, a pure open walkaround that boasts a modern profile with a plumb bow and fold-down decks above the water, an architectural configuration that is increasingly found on the latest generation boats. The layout is particularly successful with a submersible bathing platform, a rear sunpad, a dining area protected by a hard roof and a modular foredeck lounge. The pod propulsion system makes it possible to make the best use of the interior volume of the hull to accommodate 4 berths, a galley and a bathroom. The decoration is particularly original and modern. With 41 knots claimed as top speed, this new model is certainly becoming a serious challenger for the Fjord and Pardo, which are the main players in this market. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

BENETTI First Oasis sold
BO101 is the first 40.80 metre Oasis 40M with a maximum beam of 8.5 metres, a draught of 2.14 metres and a gross tonnage of 385 tonnes – and was sold to an American owner, Tim Casiulli, who is passionate about speed on the water and is a former offshore world champion. This is another success for Benetti in the United States after the recent sales of the 67-metre FB 278 “Project Fenestra”, the 69-metre “Spectrum” and the 49-metre “Eladrea+”. Oasis 40M is an innovative and ambitious yacht, the result of a collaboration between Benetti, the British firm RWD and Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture, a New York design studio responsible for designing the interiors. On board this yacht, the
owner and his guests will enjoy vast and welcoming spaces characterised by an elegant and sophisticated design. This yacht features a revolutionary stern that opens sideways to the water to form an incredible entertainment space with an overflow pool directly integrated into the platform – a layout never before developed on a unit of this size. The common intention of the various teams was to eliminate barriers between indoor and outdoor spaces, by creating a unique setting comparable to a loft on the water. The assembly of the GRP hull and superstructure has already been completed so that the yacht can be delivered for summer 2020.

MANGUSTA 104 A design by Igor Lobanov
The renowned Italian builder Overmarine is expanding its range with a new 31-metre sports model that will be designed, for the first time, by Russian-born designer Igor Lobanov. This is a particularly aggressive sport yacht in which the traditional series of side windows has been replaced by a transparent strip whose purpose is to better illuminate the different living areas distributed throughout the hull. An interesting aesthetic effect has been created in the superstructure with a sundeck that merges into the extension of the
windscreen of the main wheelhouse. The aft deck, with its very soft shapes, is fitted with a superb rounded sofa and a huge garage capable of accommodating a 5-metre tender and a jet ski. The contemporary interior decoration, very similar to that of a residential property, will be carried out by the same designer. The propulsion mode of this new yacht will remain in line with the spirit of the brand with two 2450 hp MTUs combined with KaMeWa S 63-4 water jets to allow her to flirt with 35 knots at full throttle.
MAJESTY 120 In the spirit of the 140
Measuring 37 metres in length with an 8.10-metre beam and a draught of 2.00 metres, the Majesty 120 will be built in GRP with much carbon-fibre reinforcement. The naval architecture and exterior design are the work of the shipyard’s in-house studio but, as on the 140, the interior decoration will be carried out by the Italian designer Cristiano Gatto. The 120 can accommodate up to 11 people in five spacious cabins. Seven crew members will also be able to be accommodated on board. To meet the various demands of its customers, the manufacturer may eventually trans-
form the beach club located in the stern into a dedicated garage. In the same spirit, one of the VIP cabins could become an extra lounge area. According to Gulf Craft, the new Majesty 120 would have 30% more entertainment space than other yachts in its class. Another highlight: all equipment such as stabilizers, thrusters, terraces and gangways, with the exception of engines and generators, will be operated by an electrical mechanism rather than hydraulic. This new yacht should be officially presented at the 2020 Cannes boat show.

ROSSINAVI ALFA 50 Inspired by automobiles
The sporting style of the Alfa project is directly inspired by the iconic Italian luxury car brand Alfa Romeo, founded at the beginning of the 20th century. Alfa is a sports yacht of less than 500 GT, characterised by an aggressive design that does not impact on the living space. In addition to its large glazed surfaces delicately integrated into the hull, this new project designed by Enrico Gobbi offers an original layout plan with a private owner’s terrace directly accessible on the foredeck. In order for this location to be able to enjoy a large surface area, the designer widened the superstructure, without any negative effect on the overall aesthetics of the yacht. In addition to
two terraces that fold out at saloon level, the Alfa project has a beach club that is completely open to the sea thanks to a transom that folds down just above the water. A swimming pool is easily accessible on the main deck which connects the saloon, the other decks and the owner’s suite adjacent to a large gymnasium. The 50-metre-long Alfa project is expected to be powered by an in-line shaft transmission combined with powerful MTUs to reach 30 knots at maximum speed. After Flying Dagger, Utopia and Endeavour 2, Project Alfa could well be added to the long list of projects designed by Enrico Gobbi at Rossinavi.
ROYAL HUISMAN SANGI Trio of yachting names
Sangi, which means “change” in Esperanto, is a yacht of less than 500 GT designed for owners looking to seize new opportunities. Its elegant 55-metre hull is slim, which improves its performance and environmental impact. Sangi brings together the talents of three of the industry’s leading names, designer Cor D. Rover for the design, Royal Huisman Shipyard, renowned for the quality of its various projects, and Van Oossanen Naval Architects for the excellent hydrodynamic study
of its hulls, known for their performance and stability. Sangi offers a perfect combination of different living spaces and numerous outdoor spaces that are spread over the main deck, with a huge swimming pool on the stern, the exterior living space at the front and the semi-enclosed sundeck on the top level. The hybrid propulsion will be limited to a power of 2 x 533 KW to power this yacht at 16 knots at maximum speed.

Sunreef 70 Power
SUNREEF 60, 70 POWER AND 49 M World's largest motor catamaran
The Polish manufacturer Sunreef is increasing research and development in its range of motor catamarans with the launch of a 60 and 70-footer as well as a spectacular 49-metre unit that will break all records in terms of length. As always, conceived in their in-house studio, the 60 and 70 will take up the general characteristics developed on the 80 power, which is a great commercial success. The line is a concentrate of habitability and sportiness with a gigantic fly, many transparent surfaces and a rather ingenious launching system for the tender. Another advantage is that the builder’s artisanal approach makes it possible to provide customization services so that each boat is unique. Imperial Yachts, the Russian-backed brokerage with Moscow and Monaco offices, that has distinguished itself in the supe-
ryacht world with the sale of several famous units such as the recent LĂźrssen Flying Fox, has approached Sunreef to sign the construction of a 49-metre long and 17-metre beam catamaran. With a delivery date scheduled for 2021, this extraordinary catamaran, fitted out to accommodate around ten guests and operated by 17 crew members, will undoubtedly be the largest catamaran available on the world market. With 2 x 3400 hp MTUs, its range should be about 5,000 nautical miles. With a high freeboard and two-level foredeck, one of which is reserved for the owner, this yacht is characterised by huge outside areas and a semi-enclosed sundeck which will house the main helm station. This new order is a new challenge for the established Polish builder who is now entering the world of superyachts.

BAGLIETTO 65 M V LINE A style is born
The overall style is reminiscent of one of Baglietto’s great classics, Adler, which strongly inspired Francesco Paszkowski. The plumb bow and innovative stern add a modern and unique twist. The profile has a combination of soft and powerful lines with an alignment of large transparent surfaces that blend into the dark structure thanks to a blackout film of the same colour. The tall windows on the main and upper decks are another distinctive feature of Baglietto yachts, while the pool on the upper deck has a transparent bottom for fun and light. Natural light is a key added value of this design, including in the large central entrance lobby where it comes directly from large skylights located on the flybridge. Accommodation comprises six cabins, four of which are located on the lower deck, which
can be accessed by a lift and via a convenient door off the lobby. The forward part of the yacht is reserved for crew quarters, with a mess and dedicated spaces for laundry equipment. At the stern, on the lower deck, the “floodable” garage will make it easy to launch and retrieve the 10-metre tender. When the tender is in the water, the garage transforms into a superb beach club that opens to the sea at the side with a sauna area and a gym positioned adjacent. A “touch and go” helipad as well as a garage for a 5.4-metre rescue tender and two jets are also available in the forward structure of the hull. Hybrid propulsion would be perfectly suited to the spirit of this magnificent project, which has the advantage of being completely different from anything else currently on the market.
BENETTI B.YOND 37 M Back to roots
While in the 1990s Benetti was one of the first shipyards to use fibreglass to build “Navetta”, over 30 metres long, today the yard is returning to steel construction with the creation of a new line of expedition yachts. B.Yond 37 M will be the first of three models to cruise the world with a revolutionary concept based on architecture with four decks benefiting from natural light thanks to 200 square metres of glass surface. As an expedition yacht, she will be powered by Siemens’ SISHIP EcoProp diesel-electric system, a solution that guarantees eco-responsible navigation with low fuel consumption and reduced environmental impact. The new B.Yond 37 M, thanks to the e-Mode propulsion developed for the yard, will have a range of 5,000 to 10,000 miles, depending on the selected navigation mode and speed. This 37-metre boat will weigh in at nearly 500 GT, more typically corresponding to the gross tonnage of a 50-metre. The construction of a second 44-metre is already planned.

WIDER 180 New start
Since its takeover by Marcello Maggi and Philip Zepter, the Italian builder has resumed service with new projects, including a 54-metre project whose construction has already begun for a delivery scheduled for February 2022. Andrea Vallicelli & C Yacht Design have redesigned the profile of this new model, which still retains some distinctive features from the first two yachts produced by the yard. The beach club area, which is a feature of Wider yachts, opens out to 160 m2, an incredible space to sunbathe and relax on, with a seawater pool, spa and gym. Thanks to an automatic filling system, the pool can easily be transformed into a garage to accommodate a 10-metre tender. Wider will continue its exploration in the field of die-
sel-electric propulsion. The Wider 135 is the second project unveiled by the new team. It will be a 41-metre superyacht built entirely of aluminium. Centro Stile Wider, directed by Michele Lubrano Lobianco, is the instigator of its modern and dynamic lines, always favouring proximity to the sea. Wider 135 respects the DNA of its predecessors with a beach club that expands by creating a 90 m2 multi-use platform at water level. The Wider team is working on other custom projects from 100’ to 200’ and on new versions of the Wider 32 and Wider 42, which will be unveiled soon. Wider wants to place a strong emphasis on quality and innovation, rather than quantity. Each newbuild will have a dedicated project management team.

ISA CONTINENTAL 80 Timeless future
Continental 80 is a steel and aluminium yacht with very well-balanced volumes and a particularly “fluid” line. Its exterior design is enhanced by transparent side strips that provide incredible panoramic views from the main interior areas. Another feature of this yacht is the overflow pool at the stern – rectangular in shape, it occupies almost the entire beam of the yacht. This arrangement leaves enough space to place large deckchairs, transforming this area of the main deck into an extension of the beach club located below. The upper deck can be considered as a true owner’s private deck. Also equip-
ped with a “touch and go” helipad, it allows owner and passengers to access the owner’s quarters directly and in complete privacy. The exterior design is completed by two imposing side exhausts which, in addition to their primary function, serve to balance the yacht’s proportions. Equipped with 7 cabins that can accommodate up to 12 passengers assisted by 19 crew members, housed in 10 cabins, the yacht is powered by two MTU 16 V 4000 M 63L engines to reach a maximum speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots with a range of 6,200 miles.

WALLY 165 New association
Since its acquisition by the Ferretti Group, the emblematic brand Wally has experienced a new boom with the restart of the Wallypower series in the form of a 50-metre boat designed in collaboration with the brand’s iconic designer, Luca Bassani, and Espen Oeino, well known for his magnificent achievements in the superyacht sector. This new combination of great talent results in a high-performance and distinctive powerboat that respects the brand’s DNA with its minimalist spirit and totally transparent angular superstructure. Designed along the lines of a three-decker, the Wally 165 Power sports a beach club
that extends out over the sea, just below a substantial pool that occupies a very large part of the aft deck. The attraction of this yacht is also located at the level of the main deck including the owner’s suite at the bow where there are two terraces that extend out over the sea. The two creatives, who have admired each other for more than 25 years, have collaborated closely to design a very slim hull, that will be as comfortable as possible when running at high speed. Driven by twin MTU engines, coupled with water jets, the 165 Power should reach a maximum speed of some 30 knots.
HEESEN 59 M SKYFALL 22,000 horsepower
The sale of this brand new fully custom yacht with a total power of 22,000 hp confirms that performance on the water still has its enthusiasts. This power will drive four water jets to accelerate to 37 knots in light load. This is an impressive achievement, especially considering its large volume of 900 GT. SkyFall is the most powerful project Heesen has unveiled to date. The owner chose Omega Architects to design the profile and hull of his yacht. SkyFall exudes power and speed in every detail. Passionate about fishing, the owner insisted that the cockpit should be completely unobstructed so that
he could enjoy his favourite leisure activity. About ten guests will be able to be accommodated in the sleeping quarters located in the hull, the owner having reserved the aft part of the upper deck for himself to access directly to a private terrace with a Jacuzzi. The tenders will be located forward so that the beach club is entirely reserved for relaxation – if not fishing. This new order proves the low lead time formula works, enticing owners to head to Heesen to build unique “custom” yachts with a comparitively short wait, thanks to optimized hulls being ready.

AZIMUT GRANDE TRIDECK Higher volume
Azimut enters the field of fast semi-displacement with a particularly generous volume with the creation of the Grande Trideck. With a length of nearly 37 metres, this new yacht, whose construction has already begun, is the result of a collaboration between Alberto Mancini for the exterior line and Achille Salvagni for the interior decoration. Well balanced, despite the imposing height of its three decks, the large Trideck displays the brand’s identity from the shape of the bow. The beach club with its transom that folds out over the sea, along with two lateral openings, still represents a very strong evolution in this dimension. The foredeck is also a place that has been the subject of a thorough study to be totally dedicated to relaxation and dining. Its fully glazed main deck houses the owner’s suite forward and a huge lounge that opens onto a generous panoramic cockpit. Designed to be powered by 2 x 2600 hp MTUs, the Grande Trideck still aims for performance with a speed that should approach 24 knots according to initial predictions. Three orders have already been received.

HEESEN AKIRA A new vision
Akira is the new project designed in collaboration with the Omega studio for the naval architecture and the English firm Harrison Eidsgaard for the design. Entirely constructed of aluminium, with a length of 57 metres and a volume of 780 GT, its top speed will be 22 knots at full
throttle. The general shape of Akira and its unique details, such as its inverted windscreen, bring to mind similarities with the aggressive profile of sharks. With 12 yachts currently under construction, Heesen is one of the few builders with a strong order book for the coming years.
TURQUOISE For all tastes
Amor The 55 m motor yacht Amor designed by A Vallicelli & C is an evolution of the 74 m series. With 750 GT, it offers a lot of volume with multiple exterior and interior versions. The design of the hull is also characterized by a very pure line. Another stylistic element is symbolized by the large vertical picture windows that give away the location of the owner’s suite with its own terrace. Lyra Based on the existing 66-metre hull, the exterior design of the Lyra project combines the soft, fluid lines and architectural style first seen on the 2012 Vicky, a 72-metre Turquoise, designed in collaboration with H2 Yacht Design, and then reinterpreted on the mega yacht GO launched in 2018. With the idea of developing this Turquoise Yachts aesthetic, H2 has succeeded in integrating its distinctive characteristics into a modern profile with harmonious and well-balanced proportions. This “little sister” of GO combines a plumb bow with a
transparent band integrated in the hull to visually elongate the profile. The main deck can accommodate six generous guest cabins with the owner’s suite on the upper level for greater privacy and panoramic views. Forward, the garage houses an 8 m tender, two jet skis and a rescue tender. Barracuda To meet the growing demand from the Explorer yacht market, Turquoise invited H2 Yacht Design to design this type of vessel on its 74-metre platform. The unique design style of the 74-metre Barracuda Explorer responds to the desire to go further in search of new cruising territories and experiences. While the exterior suggests a utilitarian aesthetic, the interior retains all the typical characteristics of a 74-metre superyacht. The facilities offer accommodation for 14 people with an impressive owner’s suite facing forward. Forward, a generous garage allows you to carry a 10-metre limousine tender, 3 jet skis and a rescue tender.

SILVER YACHTS “BOLD” Military inspiration
After launching Skat in 2002, which was quite similar to a warship at first glance, the renowned Monaco-based designer Espen Oeino is doing it again, in an even more advanced way, with Bold, built in Australia by Silver Yachts. Very distinctive, with its anthracite colour and two prominent cranes, this ship has a completely unobstructed rear deck to carry as much equipment as possible – or throw a large party. The forward bulkhead, entirely covered by a giant screen, transforms the space into a massive dance floor with a series of speakers concealed in the ceiling structure and a multitude of LED neon lights embedded in the floor and walls; a characteristic that will be repeated in many other parts of the yacht. A door then leads to a passageway that serves several

guest and VIP cabins and a staircase that leads to the upper deck. The space is gigantic with a series of full-height windows that offer a superb view all around. The effect is even more spectacular on the exterior deck where there is a huge table for lunch for 12 people with a lounge space opposite. The owner’s suite, with its small home cinema built in at the entrance, is just as spectacular with a very appealing contemporary decoration. The upper deck, mainly dedicated to meals, has a backlit bar and two large ovens for BBQ grilling. The sundeck is on two levels with a Jacuzzi installed on the first one just in front of a huge upholstered seat. The second is equipped with a table and a lounge area sheltered by a very clean stretched fabric awning. Bold is definitely, well… bold.

World Yachts Trophies
Since the takeover of the title Yachts France, by SG Publications and its CEO Stéphane Guedj, the World Yachts Trophies have become increasingly popular, reflecting the interest of this celebration, which has become almost an essential event for yacht owners and yachting professionals. In addition to the huge video screens installed on either side of the Carlton terrace on the Croisette, the World Yachts Trophies have expanded this year by occupying a second part of the Carlton beach with extra tables and a lounge area arranged by our partner Roche-Bobois. The event remained faithful to the legendary Cannes hotel by placing in front of the main entrance its huge carbon and stainless-steel Y, just ‘aft’ of our sponsor’s vehicle, a superb Nissan GT R50, the Japanese brand’s most sporty vehicle with a limited production run of just 50 units. At 7:30 p.m., guests were welcomed by our hostesses to their tables. The prize-giving ceremony then began at around 9pm. After a brief speech by our President thanking all the guests and announcing the development of Yachts Europe, the English version of Yachts France which is celebrating its 31st anniversary this year, the long-awaited moment for the presentation of the trophies finally arrived. In order to bring a little “glamour” to this official
2019
evening, Victoria Silvstedt, a Swedish model and actress animator, did us the honour of presenting the trophies to the various winners. The last trophy, recognizing and rewarding the incredible career of Mr Paolo Vitelli, President and CEO of the Azimut Benetti Group, was a rather moving moment with a totally unexpected standing ovation, simultaneously triggered by the majority of professionals in the yachting industry. The ceremony was then followed by a night parade that saw 23 yachts pass in front of guests under the spotlight – a challenge that is not without risk because artificial reefs have been submerged leaving a depth of less than one metre in places to protect the beach being eroded by strong westerly gales. Thanks to the slick organization of the team in charge of the maritime services of the city of Cannes, everything went perfectly smoothly, even with a few pirouettes. The evening then livened up even more, until 2am, the beat thumping out from the turntables of a top DJ. The organisers and the magazines Yachts France and Yachts Europe would like to thank all the participants, professionals, designers, engineers, yacht owners, nominees and the management of Carlton for the excellence shown, right across the board.

EVO R6 – LENGTH: 17.66 M With its 18 metres length, Evo Yachts’ new R6 is the flagship of the range, which has built its success on a contemporary design and above all on an expandable cockpit thanks to bulwarks that fold out above the water. Contrary to what one might imagine, the R6 is not only a great day cruiser. Its living space is sufficient for the standard version to offer a saloon with a galley, a VIP cabin aft and an owner’s cabin forward. The cockpit layout is skillfully arranged with a huge bathing platform that integrates a “transform” passerelle system and a mini garage capable of carrying a 2.85 m tender. The lines are the work of Neapolitan designer Valerio Rivellini, who took care to meticulously integrate all the equipment so that the overall appearance is as harmonious as possible.
PRINCESS F 45 – LENGTH: 14.15 M The latest addition to the fly range, the F 45 has opted for a propulsion system with pods which makes it possible to optimize the habitable volume of the hull by placing two spacious cabins, forward and amidships. The most spectacular part is still in the cockpit with a specific system that allows you to gain a few very precious square centimetres when the bench located above the bathing platform slides electrically into position. As an option, a barbecue and a sink can complete a well-equipped galley ideally located at the entrance to the saloon Access to the fly is comfortable and its surface is appropriate for a boat of this category.

VAN DER VALK 600 BEACH CLUB – LENGTH: 19.10 M With the unique location of the engine room constituting a real innovation in the organization of the space, the 600 Beach Club is a particularly original boat. The main saloon occupies the entire stern with direct access to the bathing platform and the other two guest cabins and that of the owner who occupies the bow of the boat. The lines are the result of several months of research and development with designer Cor D. Rover and Ginton Naval Architects. The yard’s customization capacity allows you to imagine a foredeck ‘saloon’ in several possible configurations with one option having a huge Jacuzzi. With this new concept, built entirely in aluminium, the Beach Club 600 is inspired by the largest units.

The Atlantis 45 is the successor to the 43, a boat that has exceeded all expectations with more than 140 units delivered in four years. Her profile with a nearplumb bow and integrated grille characterises it as a sporty boat with a dual pod propulsion system that allows it to slice through the waves at speeds of up to 33 knots. Her stern has a garage capable of transporting a 2.50-metre tender with a superb sunpad, a dining area and a helm station protected by a hard-top bimini. Thanks to a very compact pod propulsion system, the living area in the hull includes two cabins, a saloon and a galley. The decoration, designed by the builder Azimut and Neo Design, is particularly modern and warm.

FERRETTI 720 – LENGTH: 22.30 M
GALEON 680 FLY – LENGTH: 19.99 M
Being as if in a villa is the new feeling that the architect Filippo Salvetti wanted to get on board this new 720. A refined heir to the brand, this yacht combines all the ingredients that have made the range so successful with an innovative new organisation. Many elements immediately attract attention, starting with the aerodynamic design with its sporty and harmonious lines that have become the signature of the Ferretti Yachts brand. The 30 m2 carbon-fibre flybridge is protected by a hardtop and available in three versions. With its most powerful engine option, of two MANs each developing 1400 horsepower, the 720 approaches 32 knots at maximum speed.
Its very large glass surfaces do not detract from its natural elegance. This new model, again designed by the English designer Tony Castro, incorporates the brand’s stylistic unconventional hallmarks and adds a technological touch with carbon for greater strength and lightness. By covering the entire cockpit, the fly has an incredible surface area for a unit in this category. The saloon, forward in the yacht, is a benchmark in terms of modularity thanks to an ingenious system that allows different elements to be electrically moved. The owner’s cabin housed amidships is completely independent of the other three guest cabins.

AZIMUT 78 FLY – LENGTH: 23.64 M Designed by Alberto Mancini, this new 78 Fly retains the brand’s technological identity with a fly entirely made of carbon to lower the boat’s centre of gravity. It is also distinguished by a unique layout with spaces that are generally found on much larger yachts. An effort has been made to protect the privacy of the guests on board, by placing the crew area forward with access from the wheelhouse. The decoration was designed by Achille Salvagni with a lounge version that promotes the notion of space between the living room and the dining room. The sleeping quarters are located in the hull with an owner’s suite amidships, two VIP cabins and a fourth guest cabin. The basic propulsion pack is provided by three IPS 1200s to reach a maximum speed of about 30 knots.

ARCADIA SHERPA XL – LENGTH: 23.80 M Designed by the Hot Lab studio and the builder’s in-house team, the Sherpa XL retains the brand’s DNA with a general habitability that extends over an area of approximately 220 m2. The USP of this yacht is that it is like larger units featuring a side garage capable of accommodating a 4-metre long tender. This provision considerably facilitates launching manoeuvres. A highlight of this boat remains its proximity to the sea thanks to a gigantic outdoor cockpit which incorporates a huge sun pad, a relaxation area and a sheltered dining area. Another highlight of this XL version is its large flybridge equipped with a system of electric windows that extend into a 34 m2 Skydeck.

This new Squadron is the second flybridge model from the British manufacturer to undergo a complete facelift under the influence of Italian designer Alberto Mancini. The hull that contributed to the brand’s excellent reputation is, on the other hand, the result of the Dutch design office Vripack. The design is fully in line with current trends with an abundance of transparent surface in the hull. The decoration is progressing towards a more refined finish and is available in four different themes, proposals also available in larger units made by the Italian designer. The galley is located at the entrance to the lounge to keep the chef in touch with other guests comfortably seated on the cockpit bench.

MCY 70 - LENGTH: 21.08 M Launched in 2012, the MCY 70 has just undergone several modifications in order to better reflect current market trends. Among the main points are now the presence of a larger glazed area on the bow to bring a little more daylight to the VIP, a significantly lowered bulwark so that the view in the saloon is as panoramic as possible and a completely revised layout plan even if several versions are still available. The owner’s suite becomes totally independent with an access located at the entrance of the saloon. The other night area with its three cabins is accessible from a staircase located near the main wheelhouse. The general decoration designed by the Nuvolari and Lenard tandem is, as ever, very modern, luxurious and space-saving.

AZIMUT GRANDE S10 – LENGTH: 29.90 M The Azimut S10, the flagship of the S Collection, is the result of a new collaboration with designer Alberto Mancini, working for the first time with the Avigliana shipyard. The S10 is a sports yacht of impeccable class that skilfully combines the elegance of a sports yacht, the architecture of a modern villa on the sea and above all the personality of a sports car with its 28 metres. The interior decoration was entrusted to Francesco Guida, whose talent is known on other models. Transparency and natural light remain priority objectives with lateral openings in the saloon to make the most of the sea.

SANLORENZO SD 96 – LENGTH: 28 M Once again, the manufacturer Sanlorenzo is reinterpreting the layout on board a yacht in its own way, with a particularly interesting new distribution of the various spaces. Designed by Bernardo Zuccon, this 96 is perfectly balanced with a semi-closed flybridge that houses the single wheelhouse, a configuration that seems to be among future market trends. The people-flow plan has been the subject of a specific study to ensure that movement is as comfortable as possible. Patricia Urquiola was involved in interior design to provide particularly innovative new solutions in terms of furniture design and layout. The notion of flexibility now seems to be a new element that adds to the many qualities of this yacht.

The latest unit built by the Turkish manufacturer Sirena, which is enjoying increasing success year-on-year, the Sirena 88 designed by German Frers is a semi-custom yacht whose originality is to offer an interior design by Cor D Rover comparable to a larger yacht. One of its particularities is to benefit from an owner’s suite located forward which can benefit from both direct access to an overflow pool and a lateral opening with an optional folding terrace. The hull designed by the renowned Argentinian naval architect has been the subject of a detailed study in order to obtain the best possible performance and to accelerate up to a 26knot top speed under the thrust of two MANs developing 1550 horsepower each.

This new model is in addition to the 100 Corsaro and 110 Dolce Vita launched last year. Also designed by the Officina Italiana design, the Argo is inspired by the line of its big sisters, with some modifications to the bow. In accordance with its wide-body configuration, the owner’s suite extends over the full beam of the yacht but is now naturally lit by a transparent deckhead. Synergy is essential: the stern with its garage capable of carrying a 4.45 m tender is equipped with the ingenious submersible bathing platform system developed by the Ferretti group’s engineering team. Three MTU engines are proposed so that the yacht can reach 30 knots at maximum speed.

PERSHING 140 – LENGTH: 43.30 M
MANGUSTA GRAN SPORT 45 – LENGTH: 45.30 M
Entirely made of aluminium, the 140 was designed at the Ancona shipyard on the Adriatic coast. This light and robust material has been selected to meet the dynamic requirements of the yacht in terms of navigation. Powered by four MTUs each developing 2600 horsepower, combined with water-jet turbines, the 140 is on familiar terms with forty knots at maximum speed. The semi-plumb bow with its stainless-steel grille has become a hallmark of Fulvio de Simoni design. The 140 also has an extraordinary beach club with side sections that can extend over the water to make the most of the sea.
Compared to her 54-metre big sister, this yacht is distinguished by the presence of a semi-closed fly’ with a saloon and main wheelhouse. From here it is also possible to reach the foredeck with a superb overflow pool surrounded by magnificent sunpads. The owner’s suite just below opens onto the sea thanks to a retractable terrace. To completely clear the magnificent beach club, the tender and the various toys are stowed in a garage integrated in the bow. The hull with a bulb has been specially designed to reach 26 knots at maximum speed under the thrust of three MTU engines each developing 2,600 horsepower.

The latest in the famous 120-foot series, Caesar immediately stands out for its various innovations, such as the master’s two elytra doors that open onto two folding terraces overlooking the sea. The other technical feat is also to have surrounded the saloon with a superb succession of curved window panes that create an incredible visual effect. Each detail has been meticulously crafted with contemporary interior decoration orchestrated by Cristiano Gatto. The stern of the yacht has been completely customized according to the owner’s wishes to become a friendly beach club instead of a garage.

Her very slender hull ensures excellent performance with a draught of only 2.15 metres. Frank Laupman of Omega Architects is responsible for the exterior design and Mark Whiteley has worked closely with the owner to create an elegant and warm interior design. Powered by two MTU 12V 2000 M72 engines (each with a power of 1,080 kW), Erica can reach speeds of up to 20 knots at full throttle. At 12 knots, her range is 3,750 nautical miles with a fuel consumption of some 98 litres per hour (excluding generators), a remarkable result for a 50-metre yacht of 499 GT moving 320 tonnes.

MAJESTY 140 – LENGTH: 43.30 M This new 43-metre boat completes the Majesty yacht range by naturally interspersing itself between the 125’ and 155’ models. The new exterior design contrasts with the usual style of the yard. Her lines are modern and sharper, the windows and hull portholes have been enlarged, not to mention her wheelhouse with inverted windows. All these new visual elements are proof of the aesthetic shift undertaken by Gulf Craft. The second revolution at Majesty is also to have called upon the talented Italian designer Cristiano Gatto for the interior design, who brought his luxury and modernity. The harmony of the different spaces is enhanced by a palette of grey tones and contemporary furniture that provide a refined and relaxing atmosphere.

BENETTI METIS – LENGTH: 63 M The exterior profile is the result of a collaboration between Giorgio M Cassetta design and the yard’s in-house studio. For the interior, the London design firm Bannenberg & Rowell experimented with the implementation of an original new asymmetrical layout. Everything has been studied in order to optimize the external view from the various decks. The interior design studied in partnership with the English studio and Birgit Otte reveals a contemporary style in which bleached oak is used in abundance with many carbon and leather elements. The other particularly original distinction of this yacht is to offer a real “apartment” for owners which extends over an area of nearly 162 m2 in total privacy.

The external design is the result of a collaboration between CRN and Zuccon International Project. Her overall look emanates a strong personality, characteristic of CRN products. Her harmonious profile highlights sleek curves that attract attention and remind us of those of the 74-metre CRN Cloud 9 launched in 2017. As for the interiors, they have been entrusted to the care of Laura Sessa. The five-deck yacht can accommodate twelve guests in the five VIP cabins plus the owner’s suite. This achievement embodies the brilliant mastery of Italian excellence. Entirely customized, this unit reflects in the smallest details a certain know-how that only a few transalpine shipyards are able to produce with their “Made in Italy” touch very much in evidence.
SANLORENZO ATTILA : LENGTH: 64 M
In line with its development policy, the Italian manufacturer Sanlorenzo has just launched its 64-metre long flagship. The rather voluminous design, which benefits from a volume of around 1600 GT, is the result of a close collaboration between Officina Italiana Design and the Sanlorenzo in-house studio. The aft part of the yacht has been specially designed so that the 78 m2 beach club fitted out with a spa can be connected to the exterior deck on which is placed a swimming pool and a terrace all well-protected from the wind. The interior decoration was designed by Francesco Paszkowski and Margherita Casprini, who respected the owner’s wishes to redefine a South American atmosphere.

RIVA SUPERYACHT RACE - LENGTH: 50 M After having tried a brief foray in the world of larger yachts in the 1960s with the Caravelle and Atlantic series, the dream of the late Carlo Riva finally came true with the launch of the 50-metre superyacht. Like the other models of the brand, this magnificent superyacht was designed by Officina Italiana Design studio, represented by Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta. OCEANCO BRAVO EUGENIA – LENGTH: 109 M
BENETTI FB 277 – LENGTH: 107 M
Bravo Eugenia, the latest mega-yacht launched by the Dutch Oceanco shipyard, is distinguished by a very fluid exterior design designed by the Nuvolari and Dan Lenard tandem. This profile perfectly matches the fineness of its bow, which has been studied by the renowned English naval architecture firm Lateral. The objective is to optimize the hull’s resistance and allow for a reasonable hybrid power system giving a low environmental impact. The absence of a visible anchor on the bow suggests that a particularly complex system below the waterline is installed. Weighing in at 4000 GT and a beam of 16.30 metres, Bravo Eugenia is expected to consume about 27% less than comparable units.
Entirely designed by the shipyard’s in-house studio, this giga yacht is powered by diesel electric propulsion. The owner’s suite located just behind the wheelhouse occupies the entire upper deck area and also enjoys the sundeck with its huge terraces and panoramic gymnasium. The main deck is reserved for guests with seven VIP cabins. The stern of the yacht is equipped with a beach club extending on either side to enjoy the sea close up. FB 277 has a huge heated swimming pool with a capacity of 21,000 litres. Powered by two Rolls Royce engines each producing 2,800 kW, FB 277 can accelerate up to 18.5 knots at top speed.

PRINCESS YACHTS With the launch of five new products and the testing of a retractable foil system on its new 35-foot day boat, the British manufacturer, backed by LVMH, is still showing excellent dynamism, which is confirmed by its impressive financial results. Princess Yachts reported record figures for the year ended 31 December 2018 with operating profit tripling compared to the previous year to £29.8m. 270 boats were delivered in 2018 (compared to 230 in 2017), bringing revenue to £340m, an increase of almost 24% compared to the previous year.
MAIORA 30
Strongly inspired by the recent 36-metre launch, the Maiora 30 is the result of a collaboration between the yard’s in-house studio and Quartostile design office. The plexiglass window that naturally illuminates the saloon and the owner’s suite is particularly well integrated into the yacht’s overall design. Among its many specific features, it is possible to move comfortably around the boat to reach a gigantic solarium occupying the upper part of the roof. BLUEGAME BGX 70 The launch of the BGX 70 marks the birth of a new concept that is distinguished by a particularly sophisticated and original layout plan. Among its many assets, there are distinct living spaces with a lounge and a huge cockpit, feeling fully connected to the sea. A crane, neatly integrated in the hull, allows one to launch a large tender and numerous water toys. Other features such as its modular forward lounge zone, its unique closed cockpit, incorporating a second lounge space, and its panoramic sunpad make for a unique sensation for guests on board.
CCN VANADIS Under a rather classic design by the Dutch studio Guido De Groot and with naval architecture designed by Ginton Naval architects, Vanadis reveals a high-tech diesel electric propulsion system. To keep up with new trends in environmental protection and guarantee economical and comfortable navigation, Vanadis has opted for a transmission system using Schottel pods coupled to two electric motors, each developing 55 KW, and two Caterpillar C 9.3B diesel engines. When the yacht chooses to navigate with her two diesel engines, her maximum speed is 12.5 knots, reduced to 8 knots in fully electric mode. At 5 knots, the operating time, under battery, is approximately two hours, an autonomy obtained thanks to a Lithium battery pack totalling 175 KW.

Ferretti 720
FERRETTI 720 Sure value
For a little over 50 years, Ferretti has been building quality yachts from 45 to 96 feet. The 720 is the new model launched in 2019 that combines all the builder’s technical experience with a significantly revised look thanks to the intervention of a new designer. A small revolution this year at Ferretti, as the traditional, ancestral collaboration with the design studio Zuccon International stopped with the arrival of Filippo Salvetti – his mission was to modify, without revolutionizing, the exterior lines of this new yacht. A difficult task to realise as the 720 preserves the brand’s DNA with an undeniable natural class and always with large glass surfaces that blend harmoniously into the hull and superstructure. As an evolution, compared to the old models, we notice that the bulwarks are a little more open to get an even more panoramic view of the surroundings and that the rigid bimini, whose purpose is to protect the fly, benefits from a better shape matching the general appearance of the boat. Without using any special colours for the gel coat, the elegance of the Ferretti brand is still very present with just a few stylistic elements that have been significantly improved. Maintaining a design that has proven its worth over time gives assurance of respecting a signature that people appreciate and hence a sure value on the resale market. Another characteristic that
comes back to this new boat is the main elements used, whether in the hardware, upholstery or furniture, which are always of excellent quality with intelligent and functional fittings that make the boat particularly suitable for long-distance cruising without requiring constant maintenance.
The saloon is divided into three different zones with a spacious galley that has a lateral opening to the exterior.
Exterior facilities If the exterior designer has changed, this Ferretti is always designed in close collaboration with the inhouse technical department too. As can be seen from the immersible bathing platform that follows the specific shape of the hull, the 720 is equipped with the latest technical innovations developed by all the brands belonging to the Ferretti Group. This new system is much more reliable and robust than the traditional bathing platform mounted on huge hydraulic cylinders and can easily lift a 3.95-metre tender. In the lower position, it is possible to see the two ideally-located exhaust grilles that effectively guide the extraction of cooling water and flue gases. Aware that the stern is a magnificent

Ferretti 720 place to stay close to the water, Ferretti had the brilliant idea of designing a sunpad bench, appearing when the transom is hydraulically deployed above the bathing platform. Ingenious, easy to use and when the door is fully folded, the cushions are perfectly protected from UV and salty air. The two very wide symmetrical stairs allow you to reach a well-appointed cockpit with a large fixed table carefully fixed on two thick stainless-steel uprights and stamped with the brand name on some stainless-steel inlays. The tone is set, we are indeed in a very luxurious environment. The flybridge overhang covers a very large part of the cockpit and to protect against UV rays, rails are provided to hold rear and side awnings. Under the flybridge staircase, a descent leads to a fourth totally independent cabin with two berths that will delight a crew or children, even if this place is cruelly lacking in natural light. A watertight door leads to a huge engine room that could easily contain machinery even more powerful than what makes up our test model with two superb MANs each developing 1,400 horsepower installed in a direct shaft line. A serious and reliable system that has proven itself in terms of reliability and particularly low long-term maintenance. Mecha-
The superb teak table is stamped with the boat’s brand. This detail says a lot about the pride in the excellent quality level of the boat. The full-height glass door has been designed to provide a very wide passage between the saloon and the cockpit.

nics will appreciate the volume and space around the engines for easy intervention without turning into a contortionist. As for the exterior, we are in a very serious environment. The side decks are wide and perfectly secured and delicately integrate the various openings for supplying the boat with water and fuel. With its perfectly designed layout, which comprises two sunpads one in front of the other, with a bench seat accompanied by a table, the foredeck becomes a superb living space that works well at anchor or when going slowly. A few lamps and numerous storage spaces are also available to brighten up the place and meet the boat’s functional needs. The 33 m2 flybridge is designed in the same spirit with an independent helm located forward of a magnificent sunpad adjoining a comfortable bench that can accommodate eight people for lunch. Another observation that testifies to the yard’s experience, Ferretti

Ferretti 720 offers a hardtop with an opening in three versions: fixed and transparent, in canvas or with adjustable louvres. Every detail has been well thought out. Interior fitout The objective of reproducing the feeling of a villa on the water by Ferretti’s in-house studio in charge of the decoration and fittings of the 720 has been perfectly achieved. The tall window, which opens almost 2/3 of its width, reveals a separate universe that is divided into three parts; a first dedicated to relaxation with an ultra-comfortable sofa forward of another bench low enough not to obstruct the view to the sea and the TV screen which pops up electrically from the furniture. A second zone is reserved for the dining area and the buffet, then a third composed of the galley, and its coupé door which leads directly to the foredeck, and the main helm station into which the comprehensive Naviop Simrad navigation system has been installed. This latter includes a multitude of equipment to optimize navigation, such as two Seakeepers for stability and a joystick that allows the boat to be maoeuvred in ports

to the nearest millimetre by operating both the bow and stern thrusters. The driving position, thanks to the two adjustable leather seats, is perfect with optimal visibility of the outside and the different screens that display all the boat’s functions – another point that testifies to the experience of the boat, which has already sailed nearly 2,000 miles in less than three months. The decoration based on different shades of grey is superb with a ceruse oak floor that skilfully blends in with the furniture and ribbed bulkheads that define the carefully organized galley. The central descent leads to the night area where four double cabins are distributed, the owner’s cabin which extends over nearly 20 m2 occupying the central part of the hull. The natural clarity provided by the large glass surfaces is more than satisfactory and once again, attention to detail is omnipresent with many lamps and a multitude of storage spaces. The general finish that can be observed when testing the furniture does not merit the slightest negative remark. The VIP cabin runs to the tip of the boat’s bow, while just aft are the two guest cabins of approximately the same volume. However, both share a single bathroom.

Seakeeping and performance The start of the two MANs is barely noticeable and our departure from the berth is carried out without any difficulty even without using the joystick because the torque of the two engines even at idle is quite phenomenal. As soon as the throttles are engaged, the response is immediate and the yacht moves with disconcerting ease and only a strong crosswind could justify the use of the thrusters. Some neophytes who might be a little scared by the manoeuvres with a shaft line can therefore be totally reassured, even with the 720’s size, its movement at rest is real child’s play. Accelerating to nearly 16 knots, in the saloon the noise level remains below 65 decibels and will barely increase as the rpm of the two MANs increases, revealing an extraordinary ease of use thanks to their torque and quiet operation. At full speed, with nearly eight people on board and a full tank of water and fuel, the speed will stabilize just under 32 knots, a performance that is considered satisfactory for this type of boat, which displays real comfort without the

slightest perceptible vibration and with a hull that can withstand shocks from the waves with incredible resilience. The general balance of the boat is very satisfactory and we did not feel any roll despite a cross wind of about Force 3. Stability at rest is very correct and the use of the gyroscopic Seakeeper stabilisers is an additional luxury which does not seem to be essential, especially since the operation of these requires the powering up of the generator, which is quite discreet nevertheless. Conclusion With the launch of this new 720, Ferretti has created a yacht that is highly efficient in terms of sailing pleasure, elegant, functional and carefully finished. The excellent shaft-line installation combined with the powerful MAN engines proves that this transmission, which is economical in maintenance and very reliable in use, still has a very bright future. The 720’s selling price, which is a little higher than its many competitors, is perfectly justified given its excellent overall performance.

ABSOLUTE NAVETTA 68 High Class
The Italians invented the Navetta, a yacht inspired by the seaworthiness and comfort of a trawler but with a modern style and, above all, with dynamic capabilities comparable to those of a classic fly. Building on this, to reinforce its range, Absolute launches a 68’ whose capacities are quite surprising for a yacht in this category. Text : Franck Van Espen Photos : courtesy Absolute

Since its creation in 2002 by Marcello Bé and Sergio Maggi, the Podenzano-based manufacturer Absolute has continued to grow. Its latest figures speak for themselves, with an increase of around 13% compared to 2017/2018, which corresponds to a production of around 85 units for this past year of 2019. After having been present on the sport-cruiser market for the last decade, it seems that the Absolute shipyard aims to impose itself even more strongly on the fly-boat sector and in the Navetta series, of which this new 68-footer belongs. Since its beginnings, Absolute has distinguished itself from its closest competitors by its particularly functional fittings, a warm décor and, above all, the choice of a specific propulsion system using IPS pods, which seems to have won over a certain audience. To make this technical adaptation a success, the Italian manufacturer’s experience was a decisive factor in designing in-house hull shapes entirely dedicated to this type of transmission. The Navetta is also a genre specific to the Italian brand, which is mainly distinguished by a snub bow, even more spacious living spaces, a huge
flybridge and electronic equipment especially adapted to the boat’s navigation capabilities.
The bulkhead window sports a sliding electric blind that opens to allow the captain to see through the saloon to the stern of the boat during manoeuvres.
Exterior facilities On the aesthetic side, this new Navetta perfectly respects the DNA of the range with a purposeful bow and numerous glass surfaces that allow owner and guests to stay in contact with the sea from the main living areas inside. The Navetta 68 compensates for the lack of a garage with a huge hydraulic bathing platform with a lifting capacity of 600 kg, enough to lift a tender nearly four metres length. The cockpit is still as friendly as ever with a superb teak table partially protected from the gaze of passers-by when the boat is moored stern-to the quayside thanks to a sliding blind installed between the two stainless steel columns that support the fly deck. The deckhead is covered by an elegant trim that subtly integrates very discreet LED lighting. Mooring equipment such as cleats and winches are hidden by a hatch that enhances the amenities of the space. For international markets, in

particular the United States, two gangway openings allow embarkation when the boat is docked alongside, rather than stern-to. A third helm station may be installed in the starboard superstructure to facilitate docking operations. The decks are wide, comfortable and feel secure when accessing a well-arranged foredeck with a lounging area including a table that unfolds for a comfortable six-person al-fresco lunch. Two very deep storage spaces port and starboard will hide fenders or other essential navigation equipment, too often awkward to access. To shade this area, when at rest, an awning stretched between four vertical posts does the trick. The fly is certainly one of the most spacious in its category with a spacious rear part that can accommodate several freestanding deckchairs. The dining area in the centre is protected The TV screen electrically pops up from the furniture in front of a pair of ultra-comfortable sofas.

by a rigid bimini top with a large, electrically-operated opening of folding canvas. Two benches frame the cockpit on which are placed a pair of 22-inch Garmin screens that prominently display the various data, even in bright sunlight. Interior fitout Absolute’s in-house design studio studied this new model, alongside the other two, with a view as to how to improve connectivity between the cockpit and the saloon. As a result, to achieve the widest possible opening, the entrance doors fold completely into the side structure and the half-height window, located at the galley top, slides down electrically behind the worktop. Moreover, without any sill in the deck, people flow is totally snagfree and guests, inside and out, can communicate and move about easily, while enjoying cocktails. As on larger units, the saloon is divided into two spaces: a dining The bathroom in the owner’s suite occupies the entire forward part of the boat.

area located forward of the superb galley and a relaxation area with two sofas located forward of a buffet hiding the retractable TV screen. Just forward of the main cockpit, equipped with three 24-inch monitors and a vertical windscreen, the wheelhouse resembles that of a 35-metre yacht. The manufacturer’s functional spirit is once again reflected in the fact that part of the bulkhead, separating helm from saloon, is transparent so that the captain can see towards the stern of the boat for safer visibility during manoeuvres. It can be closed with a blind for concentration at sea. The owner’s cabin occupies the forward part of the boat and benefits from a rather surprising volume that is comparable to that of a 27-metre boat. With an optimal transparent surface, the exterior view is near-panoramic, with natural light flooding in to highlight materials of the highest quality. The compact size of the IPS allows for vast accommodation volume in the hull, containing an inviting full-beam VIP cabin.

No negative criticism can be made against the level of the finishes in general, with the various bulkheads and furniture all well installed with tight tolerances. The staircase near the wheelhouse leads down to the sleeping quarters in the hull, where three double cabins are located. A full-beam suite is devoted to the VIP while two guest cabins are positioned each side of the passageway. Another neat design detail is that the two single beds can slide together to form a double. Access for maintenance has not been forgotten either: a door located forward allows access to the forepeak of the boat to service, or troubleshoot, the bow thruster as well as provide more really useful storage space. This could be termed the Navetta spirit. The boat is intended to be used with a professional crew of two who are able to reach their private accommodation from a watertight doorway situated at the bathing platform. The space for the crew is reasonable and feels larger than it is thanks to natural light coming in through large transparent panels installed in the upper part of the transom. A central watertight door leads to the engine room, which is equipped with a washing machine and two freezers at its entrance. The engineering feels perfectly worked out and the volume is more than sufficient to carry out the various maintenance operations on the engines.
The upper helm station, with its two 22-inch Garmin displays, is virtually as good as the main wheelhouse position.
The wheelhouse is worthy of a larger yacht with perfect visibility and low reflections thanks to the vertical windscreen.
vibrations provides for particularly pleasure when relaxing underway. The Navetta gives the sensation of planing effortlessly in a sea without having to adjust the boat’s trim with the flaps. The weather being too calm on the day of our test, we undertook to cross our wake several times to form a choppy sea and we witnessed a smooth ride: the hull does not reveal the slightest slamming or unpleasant vibrations. With her 53 tonnes, at full load, the Absolute is a massive vessel that should leave owners and guests without any fear of being pounded if caught out in a storm. Conclusion Very well built with quality equipment and materials, this new Navetta has pleasantly surprised us, all the more so as her hydrodynamic capabilities are quite close to those of a classic fly. With outstanding interior space, a remarkable exterior profile and oversized, high-specification, electronic equipment, the overall impression felt is that you are on board a much larger yacht. All said, this gives an irresistible argument to allow oneself to be seduced into acquiring a Navetta, for slow cruising and fast sprints.
Seakeeping and performance Contrary to what one might think, the Navetta is a dynamic yacht that is capable of moving at up to 25 knots at maximum speed. But, if you want to use this yacht for very long cruises, it will be better to reduce her speed to around 8 knots to give a range of up to 700 miles. However, this distance is reduced very quickly if the throttle is powered up to 15 knots as its range is then just under 300 miles. Considering its displacement, this yacht would have benefited from a tank with a slightly larger capacity. The quiet running of both engines is perfectly adequate and the absence of

Officially presented at its world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2019, the Sirena 88 is the flagship of the range, built by the Turkish shipyard Sirena Marine, which now consists of three models: 58’, 64’ and 88’. With its design that harmoniously blends modernism and classicism, the Sirena 88 is unlike any other yacht. This subtle mixture of vertical and oblique lines thrown backwards exacerbates this particular profile, which is enhanced by a tall plumb bow. From this 26.80-metre yacht comes a certain ‘quiet strength’ offering an invitation to go on long and distant cruises. Its RPH (Raised Pilot House) design with a raised wheelhouse gives it the look of a yacht capable of sailing more than 3,000 miles without refuelling – which indeed it is with the additional tanks option. The main deck is surrounded almost entirely by dark-tinted glass, which elegantly contrasts with the immaculate whiteness of the hull. The composite structure is completely vacuum infused and the use of carbon fibre in the design of the deck and superstructures has reduced the weight and lowered the centre of gravity.
The large windows flood the living room with natural light while two sofas face each other for conviviality. The traditional dining room is enhanced by a beautiful and very original chandelier.
Exterior facilities By taking the hydraulic gangway to board the Sirena 88, we notice the two symmetrical staircases which, framing the stern, provide access to the fixed bathing platform equipped with a comfortable hydraulic-operated bathing ladder. Perfectly versatile, the garage can accommodate a tender or be converted into a beach club according to the needs of the owner. The cockpit is welcoming with its large deck saloon equipped with an imposing U-shaped bench seat and a beautiful wooden table with neat stainless-steel inserts. The deck is entirely covered with teak planking from the aft cockpit to the foredeck. The starboard side deck allows you to reach the bow, going up a few steps. You cannot miss the touch of classicism with the imposing wooden handrail. The port side deck offers complete independence for the crew who can stock up the galley thanks to its direct access. In the cockpit, a streamlined staircase leads to the fly bridge. This offers a large surface area capable of accommodating everything you could desire. The fly is particularly well protected by a substantial hard top equipped with an electrically-opening canvas insert.

The main part is furnished with sun loungers and a Jacuzzi, while to port a large table for al-fresco meals faces the oversized galley-cum-bar. The package is completed by an exterior helm-station with two seats, one for the helmsman, the other a guest. A staircase leads directly from here to the inside wheelhouse, located half a deck below. From the flybridge, a gate to port provides access to the bow through a well-secured passageway. Very rare for a unit of this size, the foredeck, which is quite slim following the shape of the bow, is equipped with an overflow pool superbly covered in a beautiful mosaic. Interior fitout For this first example, the interior decoration is deliberately classic with the use of dark woods. Dutch designer Cor D Rover, in charge of layout and interior design, explains his approach: “We wanted a comfortable boat with large living spaces. We have used luxurious materials and chosen natural tones with bright colour accents. The combination of stainless-steel details, mirrors, off-white trim and hand-sewn leather
For lovers of al-fresco lunches, the aft cockpit has a large bench complementing a beautiful wooden dining table boasting stainless-steel inserts.
gives the interior a high-quality finish.” On the main deck a saloon with two sofas precedes a dining table for eight to ten guests. On both sides, sliding doors offer a beautiful view of the sea, the bulwarks being specifically lowered at this section. Forward, to port, a door leads directly to the very well-equipped galley, while the door on the opposite side leads to a corridor that acts as a lobby. One staircase leads up to the wheelhouse and another allows guests to reach their cabins on the lower deck. Right forward on the main deck is the owner’s cabin – a fabulous position for it. One of its most innovative features is undoubtedly the direct access to a mini private swimming pool on the foredeck. Very intimate, this is invisible from onlookers thanks to the high bulwarks that surround the bow. The mini suite is not only full beam, but it is also very bright, having large windows on both sides. As an option, it is possible to install a retractable terrace. The layouts are rather well thought out with a lounge area and a useful desk. The bathroom, also full beam, is bathed in light with ceiling openings and is equipped with two basins with an independent

shower and separate toilets. Let’s go back to the lobby to go down to the lower deck and discover no less than four very surprising cabins. The slightly too steep descent with its small steps is to be modified by the builder. The first VIP aft is complemented by a lounge area with a big window to view the sea at anchor or while underway. The second VIP occupies the forward end with its own mini-hallway leading to an independent dressing room, then its bathroom to port and a separate shower forward. It is then necessary to climb a few steps to reach the bright – in the daylight –sleeping area, thanks to its large side windows. This arrangement offers the feeling of enjoying a real mini-suite very compartmentalized. Between the two VIPs are two double cabins of generous dimensions. Each of the four cabins has a bathroom and its own separate shower room. There is also a laundry room with requisite machines. People flow is pleasant as is the high headroom. The crew quarters, accessible by an external staircase on deck, consist of two cabins for up to three people. They are located aft between the guest cabins and the engine room with which they communicate directly. Considering itself as a semi-custom yacht builder, Sirena Yachts will of course be able to modify the interior design and decoration within reason. You have to climb a few steps to access the sleeping area of the VIP cabin located forward. At the foot of the bed, the headroom is amazing.

THE SIRENA SHIPYARD
The Turkish shipyard Sirena Marine has facilities covering more than 150,000 m2 in Bursa, a city near Istanbul. Created in 2006 by a powerful family holding company Kiraça, who had the aim of diversifying, the company has already proved its worth in the nautical world by building the Azurée and Euphoria ranges of sailing boats. As a subcontractor, the yard has built some models of up to 50 feet on behalf of the Azimut Benetti group. Based on this experience, they launched their own range of motor boats with the first Sirena 58’ and 64’. With substantial financial and human resources (650 employees), the yard has sold more than forty boats in three years.
GERMÁN FRERS The firm Frers Naval Architecture & Engineering, based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is now run by the third generation of Frers. After having shone in the world’s biggest yachting races, the famous naval architecture firm has been working in the motor boat market too for several years now. To its credit we can mention the Lürssen Pacific (85 metres in 2010), the Baltic 78 Bill and Me (24 metres in 2017) plus the 58’ and 64’ production boats, not to forget the new 88’ RPH built by Sirena Yachts. As for ongoing projects, the company is collaborating with Royal Huisman in the Netherlands on a 49-metre yacht called Marlin and also with CNB on 43-metre vessels.
Seakeeping and performance Her inaugural trip was an excellent test on a long passage. The Sirena 88 came from Turkey via the Corinth Canal and Messina. The delivery went very well according to the crew’s statements. Manoeuvrability with bow and stern thrusters is excellent. During our test in the bay of Cannes we were 25 people on board and weighed down further with some 11 tonnes of liquid (8,500 litres of fuel and 2,300 litres of water), and achieved slightly less than the 25 knots announced by the manufacturer. Her behaviour pleasantly surprised us and the boat is particularly agile and very responsive to the joystick. Despite her 100-tonne full load displacement and high tonnage, the Sirena offers remarkable stability in tight turns at high speeds...stunning. The two MANs of 1550 horsepower each, coupled with conventional transmissions with shaft lines, allow a cruising speed of 16 knots. As an option, it is possible to have fuel tanks of 16,500 litres capacity, instead of 11,000 litres, thus increasing the range by an additional 1,000 miles with 3,100 miles instead of 2,100 at a speed of 9 knots – a rather rare performance for a boat that remains quite efficient. After an hour of testing at different speeds, we can confirm that Frers has designed a semi-displacement hull that allows you to navigate serenely from 8 to 23 knots in total comfort, without the slightest vibration. The overall soundproofing is very effective so she should appeal to Frers’ long-time sailing boat customers making the switch. Conclusion The Sirena 88 is a well-built yacht that perfectly combines modernism and classicism. This unit can be considered for potential buyers as a semi-custom, a very important advantage that allows them to sail on an almost unique yacht with personalized facilities. It must be recognized that the exterior surfaces and the impressive interior volumes are undeniable assets. As for the prestigious signatures of Germán Frers and Cor D Rover, they are the guarantee of a successful yacht on all levels.

Bluegame BGX 70
BLUEGAME BGX 70 Entering a new world
For 17 years, Bluegame has been a brand that has never ceased to amaze by the quality of its creations. Bought by Sanlorenzo in 2018, it had until then occupied the niche market of luxurious and habitable dayboats with walk-around decks. Today, aligned with the luxury values linked to its new owner, Bluegame stands out with the launch of a new 70 with a revolutionary general arrangement. In line with Sanlorenzo’s growth policy, Bluegame is adding BG42 and BG62 its two existing models, a new range represented by the BGX line. Innovation and robustness remain two inseparable principles of each new project. Thanks to the support of Sanlorenzo’s R & D department, Bluegame has developed an eco-responsible strategy that has enabled it to successfully complete a recycling project implemented in the construction of this new boat. The project was carried out in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano (Milan Polytechnic and Engineering School) involving the study of environmentally friendly industrial systems, and Rivierasca, owner of the Glebanite technology. Glass fibre recovered at the end of its life, mixed with unsaturated polyester resins, allows 80% of it to be recycled. Aware of its responsibilities in the global ecosystem, Bluegame actively participates in recycling processes and in the protection of the marine environment as a member of the Blue Marine Foundation.

tile outdoor areas and an extremely high-performance hull thanks to a lines plan by the American naval architect Lou Codega, renowned among other things for his excellent sportfisherman achievements. The exterior styling was then developed by close collaboration between Luca Santella and Bernardo Zuccon, who had already trained themself for the job with the redesign of the Bluegame 42 and 62. Them marque has been fully expressed with the new BGX line, especially forward, with a huge modular outdoor sunbathing lounge and aft with a 20-square-metre multifunctional bathing platform located near the water. Any future owner is free to customise this place with sunpads or a 4-metre tender alongside several water toys. No problem for their launch – Bluegame has used the ingenious system developed on the SX with an invisible crane subtly integrated in one of the bulwarks. Another totally new fea-

ture: when the full-height windows are open, you have direct access to a lounge that then becomes a beach club, an architectural configuration strongly inspired by the world of superyachts. Interior fitout The layout of the BGX 70 can be considered revolutionary. The various living spaces have been designed to offer a real independence between the owner’s and guests’ areas with a second saloon including the wheelhouse and the galley. In the configuration of this first model, the BGX 70 is offered in a two-cabin version with a second lounge that converts into sleeping space. The VIP cabin marries the forward part of the boat with a double bed located against the bulkhead of the crew quarters, designed to accommodate two. The decoration proposed by Martina Zuccon is sober, delicate and elegant with a combination of shades of white lacquer and different shades of grey. Bluegame has not skimped on the quality of the different materials that should face many years of use without showing the slightest

sign of aging. On the upper deck, the wheelhouse, thanks to its inverted windscreen, increases the feeling of space in addition to excellent visibility. To starboard, the galley is located forward of a dining table of generous dimensions that comfortably seats eight. From this area overlooking the sea, with a breath-taking view, you can access a second outdoor area from which you can have an al-fresco lunch sheltered from the sun by a retractable awning. A slightly steep ladder provides access to the sun deck where one can enjoy complete privacy and a panoramic view of the sea. In keeping with the clean looks all around, the technical deck at the bow, with the windlass and other equipment, is hidden in a locker integrated into the boat’s structure. Seakeeping and performance BGX 70 is above all a Bluegame. It is a boat that benefits from an excellent hull that knows how to face the waves with ease. This excellent hull has been specifically designed to receive dual propulsion by Volvo Penta IPS pods, available with power options of either 900 or 1000 horsepower. Bluegame has chosen the 1000 hp (IPS 1350) for this first BGX 70 that ensure a Bernardo Zuccon has been able to give the external profile an original, strong, almost workboat character emphasised by the grey paint.

maximum speed of 30 knots, a more than respectable performance to move over 40 tonnes, in light load. The fuel consumption of the Volvo IPS remains quite economical with 180 litres at 20 knots, enough to cover about 450 nautical miles without refuelling – a useful range for this type of motoryacht. Soundproofing-wise, the Italian builder has done an excellent job, greatly helped by the configuration of the Volvo Penta pods and their exhaust immersed deep in the hull. Thanks to this, at cruising speed, the flow of water over the hull more or less hides any engine noise in the owner’s suite. Conclusion Well-built with comfortable and safe seakeeping offers new features for a high-performance and easy-to-use 70-foot boat. Much awaited during the first official presentation of the last Cannes Yachting Festival, the BGX 70 seems to have found its niche with two units already sold, as we go to press.
The wheelhouse is characterized by a reverse-angle windscreen and a steering wheel like US fishing boats, as on all the Bluegames, a passion of Luca Santella.

PERSHING 140 Technical Goldmine
We have dreamt of it since the first drawings were unveiled at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show and, just under four years later, the flagship, developed by Pershing, has finally arrived. Even more beautiful, innovative and aggressive-looking than anticipated, the vessel, equipped with four MJP water jets to propel it, is a real jewel of technology. This new Pershing 140 is the result of a collaboration between the Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee, its Engineering Department and the architect Fulvio De Simoni. It is also the first Pershing built at the Ancona shipyard, specialising in the construction of steel and aluminium yachts of over 40 metres length. With this new flagship, the brand is entering a new era of design and construction, combining its tradition of innovation with its thirty-year experience. We had dreamed, Pershing did it and the adventure does not seem to end with this flagship – because a 170 is under research also to the drawings of Fulvio De Simoni, faithful to the brand since its creation. Exterior facilities The Pershing spirit is perfectly respected with the fluidity of the various decks and the twin lateral arches that are now a hallmark of the X range. Fulvio de Simoni has not simply reproduced a classic yacht comparable to what has gone before, as the profile reveals a totally new shape with a semi-vertical bow protected in its central part by a magnificent grille worthy of those of the most beautiful cars of yesteryear. The other strength of the designer is that he has perfectly integrated into the profile a master that extends into the forward part of the yacht without having any im-

pact on the overall sporting lines. Certainly, the style of the 140 is imposing and will not leave anyone indifferent when she arrives in a port or zooms past at sea. Always sensitive to having a clean exterior aesthetic, and in order not to break the boat’s general fluidity, the designer skilfully managed to hide the various anchoring equipment under a hatch that perfectly blends in with the shape of the foredeck. To access it during manoeuvres or when arriving at an anchorage, simply raise this lid using an electric control, operated at the touch of a button. Just aft, we find the same principle but this time with a flush top that slides back towards the windscreen of the boat to reveal, when it is completely opened, a space comprising a Jacuzzi, a dining area and a gigantic sunpad – another innovation specific to the brand that will doubtless be emulated by many others in the near future. To get back to the cockpit, which extends over two levels and which, thanks to this architectural configuration, forms a kind of mezzanine, all you have to do is go down a few steps and follow two wide and secure side decks. The stern is another zone that is certainly not lacking in interest – on all sides, it folds completely open just above the sea to form both a superb beach club and an adjoining garage into which it is relatively easy to retrieve a tender of some 5 metres LOA plus a jet ski.

The diamond-shaped mosaic is superb.
When the bulkheads are extended out, the Pershing 140 proudly sports three magnificent terraces on which one can set up parasols and freestanding deckchairs to really make the most of this exceptional playground-on-sea. The sundeck is also by no means ordinary. Protected on nearly 80% of its surface by a rigid bimini top, whose supports are designed to allow for maximum forward visibility, it has a real second wheelhouse feel. All the instruments are grouped in a dashboard that retracts into the console located immediately forward of the bar. Six bucket seats are also carefully positioned so that passengers can enjoy the whole driving experience alongside the captain. Interior fitout This artistic work could not be complete without an interior decoration complementing the futuristic aspect of the concept. As this first unit was intended for an Asian shipowner, its layout plan therefore underwent some modifications in line with the customer’s lifestyle. Between the two pieces of furniture flanking the en-

trance area, a games table was set up just forward of a relaxation zone made up of two ultra-comfortable “lounge” sofas. The buffets on each side have been entirely custom-made with rounded shapes and decorated with belts that recall the universe of the prestigious French leather goods company, Hermès. The corridor to starboard leads to a lobby that serves the various decks of the yacht: the main wheelhouse

and the captain’s cabin on the upper level as well as the guest quarters below. The latter consists of four double cabins, including that of the owner, which feels quite unique in the way it fills the whole forward part of the hull, in a deliberately curved space, to produce a spatial atmosphere that is even more cosy than one would normally find. The ambience is contemporary with a desk and a bench on either side of the bed. However, given the dynamic qualities of the yacht, the windows are relatively small for safety reasons. Contrary to what we are used to seeing in Europe, the layout of the main deck is also completely different. Moving past an inviting bar, guests enter the main dining area, which is equipped with an oval table that can seat ten guests comfortably. Finally, the forward part is totally configured as a recreational area with a room dedicated to cinema and karaoke. The decoration is essentially made up of different shades of silvery grey, an oak parquet floor with a silver-finished upholstery that is feels quite exotic. Seakeeping and Performance Speed and beauty on the water have always been the fundamental values of the Pershing brand and this new 140 is no exception to the rule. However, three mechanical configurations remain available to propel the “beast” with a first, relatively modest, proposal consisting of 2 x 3460 hp. The second option progresses on to 2 x 4613 hp to accelerate her up to 33 knots, while the third, which is installed in this inaugural model, is the most elaborate version with 4 x 2600 hp MTU engines – yes, a total of 10,400 hp – to power the 235 tonnes of aluminium up to nearly 38 knots flat out. There is no point in even looking at fuel consumption or cost per mile travelled – it would be indecent and perhaps be better not to know. For the three different power options, exclusively waterjet propulsion is offered but, in the third most powerful version two extra central boosters provide the additional thrust. The engine room represents the second technical goldmine of the yacht, bringing together the four sixteen-cylinder blocks in an arena of exceptional engineering. In the list of other technical developments,
The sundeck is totally protected in its central part by a hard bimini. This entire second helm station’s dashboard

folds into the console structure to ensure that the instruments are well protected when not in use.
Conclusion With this new model that touches the exceptional, Pershing has taken another step on the scale of luxury and innovation. Rarely has a yacht brought together so many spectacular elements such as a fully convertible beach club above the water, a foredeck lounge that can be covered by a sliding roof, propulsion by four water jet turbines, a performance of nearly 40 knots for a 43-metre unit – and finally the possibility of customising the boat to suit your taste. Pershing is definitely not a run-of-the-mill brand.
From this view, we can clearly see the thrust of the four water jets including two booster jets in the central part of the stern.
