Hints and Tips for Dual Carriageways
Looking
When approaching or following a large vehicle make sure that you can see their mirrors so they can also see you.
When travelling at faster speeds the gap between you and the car in front needs to be at least 2 seconds in good condi�ons.
Posi�on
Always posi�on your vehicle in the le� lane unless you are overtaking or about to turn right. As you are going faster you will approach hazards sooner than you realise so make sure you leave a gap big enough to be able to stop safely without harsh braking. Speed and Gear
When joining a dual carriageway, get to the speed limit as quickly and as safely as possible so you do not become a hazard.
Use the highest gear which will reduce the revs of the car and use less fuel. Mirrors and Signal
Situa�ons will develop quicker at faster speeds so keep checking in front and the rear so you can an�cipate and prepare your car before the situa�on affects you.
