Comm studes bags awards in nat’l campus journ tilt

yand Angelo Ugalde and Ivy Jane Guanzon of the Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BA Comm), made a triumphant mark at the recently concluded Organization of Student Services Education, Inc. (OSSEI) National Training Workshop on Campus Journalism, held at Baguio Crown Legacy Hotel, last September 28-30. Besting 36 universities across the country, a short documentary directed by Ugalde called “Nadan nah-at Handi” (The Past), which shed light on the local “ukay” culture of Baguio, won 1st runner-up in the on-the-spot multimedia journalism competition. to prepare an audio-visual output with an 8-hour working time limit. “It was exhausting but pretty much worth it.”, Ugalde expressed through a facebook post. Meanwhile, Ivy Jane Guanzon’s article, which headlined in Sirmata’s broadsheet added to the honors as it clinched 3rd place in the news reporting category in the evaluation of published articles. Guanzon’s writeup talked about the fire victims from the university who sought help on social media. The three-day workshop aimed to educate members of campus publications with real-life industry scenarios and existing dilemmas in the country’s journalism landscape.

eluka (wig), a short horror film directed and produced by Zechri Jacob Alvarez, under ‘Tanglaw’ Productions, took home the Best Picture and Best Director during the awarding ceremony of the 12th Lilia Cuntapay Short Horror Film Festival 2023, held at the Provincial Capitol, October 31. According to Alvarez, Peluka (wig) follows the story of Sisa, a barbershop owner, and her customer Caesar, whose Sunday night routine takes a mysterious turn, prompting Sisa to question the connection between them and the mysterious ‘Peluka.’ The production staff of the awar-winning film was composed of firstyear BA Comm students including Micah Rivera as the assistant scriptwriter, Ianne Nicolas and Louise Lomboy served as the lead characters, Mikko Castillo, Zyrelle Acacio, worked as the production assistants, and Alli Chan and Marco Jae Prieto as crew members.
