Every college seeks to select students with outstanding qualities and accomplishments.

A student’s GPA (Grade Point Average) is used to measure his/her accomplishments in school.

However, every school’s standards are different and even schools in the same state may have different GPA standards.

Therefore, it is hard for colleges to make judgments on potential candidates based solely on a student’s GPA score.

What is ACT? American College Test

The ACT (American College Test) is an alternative standardized test for college admission candidates.

Now a days, most colleges accept ACT scores in place of The New SAT and SAT Subject Test scores together.  If a student achieves 32 out of 36 on his/her composite score, he/she is qualified to apply for prestigious colleges.  If the goal is to attend Ivy League colleges or other top tier colleges, students may need a composite score of 33 out of 36.  There are 6 tests a year in February, April, June, September, October, and December. All ACT testing dates are scheduled on different days from SAT testing dates.  On the ACT test, students are permitted to use a calculator on the Math sections only. 
