Why I teach Tau Reiki over 3 years Having trained in both Western and Japanese Reiki, I have opportuni es to sit in both circles and hear personal stories of healing. Occasionally there is an amazing story, but in the main they are stories of much faster recoveries or minimal impact from injuries, surgeries, and health crises. As I put it, ‘Reiki isn’t magic, but it works. S ll few pay the rent by providing Reiki treatments.

Why I believe in a Reiki prac ce as later life livelihood Many people over 60 are looking for ways to con nue a purposeful life or change direc ons in their life purpose. Providing Community Reiki fulﬁlls that inten on while providing a supplementary income for those of us trying to make ends meet on limited pensions. Community Reiki also helps younger healers.

Why I teach Reiki and Hypnotherapy together The body can only heal when it is in the parasympathe c mode and trance is an expression of that state. Both Reiki and Hypnosis induce trance. The responsible prac oner is prepared to manage trance for the best possible outcome of the recipient. There are established standards for the prac ce of Hypnotherapy and I oﬀer training to meet that standard concurrent with Reiki training that prepares my students for cer ﬁca on by both Hypnotherapy and Reiki associa ons.

Why Tau training is like a 10 month Camosun course over 3 years The healthcare occupa ons of therapists or counsellors share the common requirement for 200 or more hours of training. As a Hypnotherapist, my cer ﬁcaon requirements were 150 hours of class, 70 hours of other training, and ongoing yearly current educa on requirements. To date I have completed 100 hours of Reiki training with my Dai Shihans. A typical 10 month program at Camosun would be similar. Tau Reiki training spreads that same amount of training over 30 months / 3 years. This be er suits working adults by being part me and produces be er results for the students.

Why regula on ma ers to Reiki prac

In 2022 the BC government passed Bill 36, the Healthcare Professions and Occupa ons Act which will extend regula on into Healthcare Occupa ons not covered previously, overseen by a single College. Regula on is complicated and there are many stakeholders who have been working on these issues for decades. At this me there is no way for any Reiki prac oner to join any college that is part of any government healthcare. But we can prepare for the day when that will be possible in the next five years. Each prac oner needs to decide for themselves whether or not regula on is a benefit to them, but one thing is certain, it will be much more difficult to work in any government healthcare se ng without being part of one of the new regulatory Colleges for Healthcare Occupa ons. One of my goals in teaching Tau Reiki is to grow the founda on needed to make Reiki a viable healthcare occupa on in BC’s government healthcare system. By doing so fulfil my personal Hōkō of ‘Crea ng Livelihood for Today’s Healers and Training for Tomorrow’s’.

Level One—Friends and Family Reiki is all the training many people need Level Two—covers Distance Reiki and Psychological Reiki. Typically taught together, I teach Distance and Psychological separately. In Sora I cover Distance Reiki. Then in Mizu I cover psychological Reiki. This completes Prac oner level. Cer ﬁcate and four wands awarded. Level Three—I add three important courses in the prac ce of Reiki, Boundaries, Energy, and Trance. In Tsuchi I cover Rapport and Boundaries in client rela onships. In Kasai, I cover Op mizing Bioenergy. (chi) In Kaze, I cover how Genera ve Trance work interacts with Reiki. This training is designed for the student to have completed 120 hours of treatment on 40 people. This completes Tau Shihan level. Level Four—Counsellor students complete addi onal studies and

prac ces at each level to complete requirements to register as a cer ﬁed counselling hypnotherapist. Level Five—In respect to the Takata tradi on I will ini ate a total of 21 students into the Shinpiden (Mystery) Level.

Here is how it works: There is an initial weekend Reiki camp that starts the training. After that each student moves forward at their own rate advancing from level to level based on study, practice, Reiju, and community service they complete. 5

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What is Hayashi style Reiki? Hayashi style Reiki is a minimum of three prac oners per recipient What is Renshū? Renshū is students and prac oners providing Reiki to each other in Hayashi style using a combina on of Reiki techniques. It includes Kyōka suru (Strengthening Reiki) What is Hōkō ? Hōkō or Community Reiki is Hayashi style Reiki with a member of the public as the recipient rather than another prac oner. Hōkō is provided on a dona on basis. Why are training days on the New Moon? With training once a month there is never a single day that works for everyone. The day of the New Moon shi s from month to month so scheduling with the Moon minimizes impact on any one person. Following the Moon cycle orients us to the natural order we are part of. This helps us become a uned to a monthly day of renewal and learning, important to self-care and making it a deeper experience for my students. How does the Counsellor program work? The student completes the Prac oner program before beginning the Teacher program. The Counsellor program runs concurrently with the other two programs as it requires addi onal hours of study, prac ce, and service. The addional study hours are completed by star ng earlier on the monthly training day and the prac ce hours by a ending addi onal hours of Renshū and Hōkō. 6

Usui and Hayashi provided manuals that provided the ‘Open' materials covering things such as hand posi ons, but students made their own notes for Occuden and above. Takata did not allow students to keep notes a er a training session. By tradi on, · The symbols used in Reiki are not shown in training manuals. · Above Level One, Reiki is taught as an oral tradi on. Your manual follows these tradi ons with an outline for all studies with space in each sec on to record your own notes for the oral lessons you will a end and keep your copies of the symbols. Introduction: Reiki, is a form of therapy that involves the transfer of lifeforce energy through the practitioner’s hands, eyes, and breath to promote healing in themselves, their families, and others. Its roots trace back to Japan in the early 20th century, and those roots are planted in the common soil of energy work which has been practiced in China (qigong) and Egypt (xrp srqt) for 5,000 years. A current term for lifeforce energy is bio-energy. Origins in Japan: The story of Reiki begins with Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist monk and spiritual teacher, in the early 1920s. Usui embarked on a personal quest for enlightenment, seeking to understand the secrets of healing found in ancient texts. Legend has it that Usui experienced a profound spiritual awakening on Mount Kurama, where he received the symbols and principles that would later become the foundation of Reiki. The Discovery of Reiki Energy: Usui’s newfound knowledge centered on the concept of“ki” or bio-energy. He discovered that by channeling bio-energy through his hands, eyes, and breath, he could facilitate healing and balance in others. The system he developed became known as Usui Reiki Ryoho, with “Ryoho” meaning healing method. Usui began teaching his techniques, empowering others to connect with and utilize this healing energy for themselves and those around them. The school he started exists today in Japan as a private society. The First Two Decades of Reiki Usui trained Chujiro Hiyashi, who continued this work through his own school into the 1930’s. Hiyashi Sensei maintained a clinic during this time where students practiced as interns providing Reiki in the community. Reiki remained confined to Japan until Hawayo Takata, a woman brought it to Hawaii where she lived. Takata Sensei, who travelled to Japan on family matters experienced the effects of Reiki at a Hayashi clinic after becomming ill during her trip. Her experience of transformational healing lead her to become a Reiki master under the training of Chujiro Hayashi. During those years Hiyashi also trained Chiyoko Yamaguchi, whose family has maintained the practice of Reiki since. Evolution and Different Lineages: In the 1980’s, in the final years of her life, Takata completed master training with 22 people, which launched Reiki as a global phenomena. The Yamaguchi family maintained a family practice of Reiki but did not train others until the turn of this century.

As Reiki spread globally, it underwent various adaptations and evolved into different lineages and styles. Reiki practitioners introduced modifications, additional symbols, and techniques, resulting in diverse approaches to the practice. Despite these variations, the core essence of Reiki—facilitating healing through the transmission of universal energy—remained intact. The spread of Japanese Reiki follows the path of Western Reiki Early in the 21st century a range of practices and techniques previously lost to Reiki became available to all practitioners. This came about as a result of Reiki practitioners from the west travelling to Japan in search of the roots of Reiki, with Frank Arjuna Petter of special importance in this search. Through this process the community of Reiki practitioners regained several of the practices of Hayashi sensei which has become the basis of ‘Japanese’ Reiki ’. Tau Traditional Reiki brings these two practices together into one program. Modern Integration: In the 21st century, Reiki has become widely accepted and integrated into holistic healthcare practices. Studies examining the effects of Reiki on stress reduction, pain management, and overall well-being have emerged, contributing to its acceptance in conventional healthcare settings as a complementary palliative therapy. Many hospitals, clinics, and wellness centers offer Reiki as part of their services, recognizing its potential to enhance the healing process and promote overall well-being. Global Reiki can best be visualized as one tree with many branches, connected by shared roots, and reaching towards a sky shared by all beings. We are one people amongst many nations.
