INSECT,CAT AND DANCERS
By simulating the body dynamics and force patterns of arthropods/cats in motion, and integrating the force mechanisms inherent to the human body, I have developed a stage/training assistive device tailored for individual professional dancers. This device aims to mitigate the risk of bodily injuries during training or performances, thereby extending the professional lifespan of dancers.

Inspiration
I have always practised dance as a hobby, but over the years I have noticed that dancers can for a variety of reasons, resulting in a shorter professional life for the dancer. suffer frequent physical injuries
But this phenomenon was present but in the early years of practice. not so prevalent

8:00-12:00
Basic Dance Skills Practice
8:00-9:50
Dancers will maintain the same movement for a long time to do the stretching.
10:10-12:00
Some of the movements put too much pressure on the lower back and knees.

Dance Per formance Rehearsal
14:00-15:50
Dancers will be constantly practising difficult dance moves.
16:10-18:00
Some of these moves can easily lead to injuries due to lack of strength.

19:00-23:00
Dance Free Practice
19:00-20:50
Dancers will continue to practice at night in order to improve faster.
21:00-23:00
This intense practice makes them susceptible to fatigue and injury.

Frequently Performed Actions
Through observation, it was found that the most common movements dancers used in practice and performance jumping, bending at the waist, and squatting.

with these ideas that you and if you don't succeed, you're not working hard enough.

Under the influence of the general environment, dancers are forced to undergo intense training without being able to get enough time to rest and recover their bodies.
Dancers will pile on the hours of practice in order to present the desired effect at the performance.
Dancers realise that practice time can affect their health, but for now they have no choice but to accept it.
Dancers are constantly training to perform their art on stage, but when the art is turned into a justifiable reason to harm the body, does this over-training have a worsening negative effect on the group and those in the group? Can design assist in mitigating this negative impact by intervening in one of these steps?

Ideation
I am going to design a wearable device that is designed to reduce the pain that prolonged training causes the body, but does not prevent injuries.
The device incorporates bionics of animals that will enable dancers to train for longer periods of time.
Why I chose bionic
Why don't cats get physically injured when they jump from high places?
1.A spine like no other

The cat's spine is super soft in more than 30 places, enabling it to twist and adjust its body easily and quickly in the air.
Before landing, it will arch its back high to minimise damage to the spine from impact.
2.Landing method
Using the waist as a fulcrum, the front and back of the cat's body turn in opposite directions.
The hind legs are straightened while the front legs are retracted to the chest, and the cat lands on all fours when it hits the ground.

Arthropod
Why arthropod joints are rarely injured?

Eternal life in infinity
——How people live where life has no end

Since ancient times, discussing topics related to ‘death’ seems to have been considered a cultural taboo in China. Children often hear from the elders of the family that ‘death’ is an unlucky topic and should not be talked about. We use a variety of different words to refer to death and endeavour to avoid discussing it directly.
In this particular space, the eternal inhabitants and the cranes possess different states, and I hope to alleviate the death anxiety of contemporary young people through the video narrative of this fictional space.
Video Link:https://youtu.be/XH4ACXGKzJA?feature=shared
When I was growing up, the subject of ‘death’ seemed to be a taboo, and I was forbidden to talk about it, both in my family's interactions with my elders and in discussions among my peers; however, is it really a good thing to forbid us to talk about death at all, to see it as a stage of life that we have to go through?
Because no one discusses it or is allowed to ask questions about it, there is a serious cognitive bias towards death and even the word death. Is the Chinese overfear of death culturally and historically relevant? I investigate this question.
Why do we avoid discussing death, and what are the profound reasons behind this avoidance? In order to explore this question, I decided to study the concept of death and its manifestations in traditional Chinese philosophy and history.
Qin Shi Huang
After Qin Shi Huang unified the six kingdoms, he sent Xu Fu, a fortune-teller, to lead boys and girls out to sea in search of the elixir of immortality.

Zhu Yuanzhang's fear of death in his later years made him even more superstitious, and he even requested in his will that his body be embalmed for long life. Zhu Yuanzhang

In his later years, Kangxi's pursuit of immortality became more and more intense, becoming superstitious about Taoism and trying various means of prolonging his life. Emperor Kangxi

Scientific research has concluded that stem cells are the root cause of aging, and a series of studies have been conducted to slow down and even stop aging. Modern Scientific Research
Modern Young People
They have a strong sense of empathy for the death they have heard or seen, and health care has become a trend among young people.
Most Chinese tend to think of death in ethical and moral terms, emphasising and defining the meaning and value of death. Much of Chinese history has been a feudal dictatorship centred on imperial power. Successive emperors also harboured a fear of death because of their unwillingness to give up power, and longed for some way to gain eternal life. This desire for survival has also affected modern people.
Differences in perception
What is the difference between the Eastern and Western definitions of death?
Eastern country
The Chinese view life as a means to achieve certain ends, including ruling the country and levelling the world, honouring the ancestors, and so on.
Confucius: Zhuangzi: Taboos and avoidance of ‘death’; although they value real life, they cannot avoid the fact and phenomenon of death.
Attributing human life and death to heaven and earth, revealing that life and death are natural phenomena.
Western country
Westerners see life as a purpose, as a joy and happiness worth pursuing. Westerners see death as another way of continuing an individual's life, a goal, so where one goes after death is important, and the concern is where the soul goes after death.
Socrates: Man is the union of soul and physical life, and the flesh is the tomb of the soul.
Heidegger: Human beings are gradually dying in the dimension of time from the moment they are born.
death anxiety
The questionnaire surveyed a total of 800 college students, excluding the influence of many factors to obtain a valid questionnaire 636.
People with death anxiety accounted for 85 per cent of the total.
85%
Death anxiety was significantly negatively correlated with meaning experience and life satisfaction.
The study found that most contemporary young people still resist death and have a negative image of it.
1. Do you usually think that ‘’should not be mentioned? death
2. Do you think cemeteries are ? unsettling and scary
3. What do you think of ‘’? faith
4. Do you think that can change something about yourself? faith
I personally believe in praying that good luck will come my way. The recent unexpected news has given me a fear of death, which makes me very anxious and I think about it every now and then.
I come here mainly to calm myself and faith will give me spiritual solace. I still fear death, but every time I come here it reduces my anxiety.
22 University Student
I don't have a faith, but I'm very curious about it, so I thought I'd come and see what it's like. I would have a sudden fear of death and don't like to talk about topics about it.

Cranes have the meaning of death and are usually represented by the phrase ‘driving a crane to the west’ to signify death.
In ancient China, cranes were believed to be a symbol of longevity, as were turtles.
The image of a longevity star is marked by a large head, and the Dan Ding Crane's head is so high that the crane is often regarded as the representative of longevity among birds.

The corona, as one of the earliest time measuring instruments, provided an important clue to mankind's first knowledge of time.
When the sun shines, the shadow of the sundial pin is cast on the face of the sundial, and as the sun moves, the position of the shadow changes.
By observing the position of the shadow, one can roughly determine the current time.
The research led to the conclusion that the crane is a symbol of longevity and death, and that in the illusory world the crane controls it bestows infinite life on the inhabitants of its world. The existence of the corona, on the other hand, is proof that time stands still in the world.

concept outcome
In this world led by cranes, each inhabitant of the world has unlimited life. They all stay in this world voluntarily to gain the ability to live forever. But the life of immortality seems to be totally different from what they fantasise about, and death becomes their unattainable wish and end. At this time, an outsider enters the world...

‘You’ in the mountain climbing road stumbled upon a screen in the woods and rocks, there seems to be some pictures and stories, so you are curious to go into the want to see, but suddenly was a burst of white light enveloped.
When you open your eyes again, it is an unfamiliar place, and ‘you’ see many people sitting or standing in the same place, and no one talks to ‘you’. At this moment, a white light appears at your feet, and ‘you’ follow the white light forward to an altar.
There is a bird-headed man on the altar who tells ‘you’ about the eternal world and asks ‘you’ if you want to stay. Since you are not sure, you decide to go back to the world and talk to the people there.
Walking away from the altar, there are still no inhabitants willing to communicate with ‘you’, who observes that the corona that passes by on the way in shows that the time has not changed. At this point, one of the inhabitants waves to you and tells you something about the world.
Once again, the bird-headed man's voice came from the sky, asking if ‘you’ would like to stay.

The altar was located at the centre of the Eternal World, which was also the location where the Immortal Crane appeared. Everyone who enters this world for the first time will be guided towards the location of the altar.

world eternal life, as well as binding the inhabitants of the world so that they cannot leave. The only way for the inhabitants to see the crane is to go to the altar.

There is no concept of time in the world of eternal life; in other words, because time does not flow that is why the inhabitants are given unlimited life. The existence of the corona enables those who first enter the world to realise that time stands still in this world.

scenario

The flowers, plants, trees and water sources in the Eternal World are different from those in the ordinary world, as there is no darkness in the Eternal World so the flowers and plants will form different colours after being exposed to an excessive amount of sunlight. The inhabitants of the Eternal World are unwilling to communicate with others because they cannot feel the passing of life, and most of the time they find a place to sit or stand quietly alone.

In today's society, the fragmentation of time creates a pervasive sense of life pressure. The overlay of numerous tasks has become the norm in daily life. The linear time that the public has long been accustomed to can no longer be adapted to the rapid change of the social status quo, people in the social life is more and more difficult to experience the concept of "time spent", more is to find ways to do in the limited time will need to do unlimited stacking of time is squeezed again and again. I wanted a way for the public to see time in other forms and thus develop a new perception of time.

Background & Inspirations
In China, because they are taught from a young age that the college entrance examination has an important impact on one s life, they are always urged by their schools and parents to study and do problems constantly, just to get excellent results in the college entrance examination. Schools are militarised for these children, with a clear division of what to do at what time.

This kind of management makes children unconsciously learn that time should be clearly divided, and accordingly, they will feel extremely anxious if they can t finish what they should do in the specified time. On the left is the timetable of an average student in a school day.

Process Philosophy – Alfred North Whitehead's "Process and Reality"
In Alfred North Whitehead's process philosophy, there are important concepts related to the continuity of time. He believes that the "present" is a constantly flowing process rather than a static moment. Whitehead emphasizes that the present is not an isolated instant but a dynamic reality that encompasses both the past and the future.
Furthermore, Whitehead contends that time is creative, constantly giving rise to new possibilities and events. The passage of time is comprised of an ongoing process of innovation and development, rather than a linear progression. He asserts that processes form the fundamental units of reality, with events being the moments within processes.
"The past always tightly grips the future, gradually expanding until it becomes infinite." - Henri Bergson, "Time and Free Will"
In his work "Time and Free Will," Henri Bergson introduces the concept of "duration." He believes that time is not merely a simple measuring unit but a texture of lived experience. It is a continuous, indivisible flow, distinct from the mechanical and divisible concept of time. This temporal flow is a dynamic and ever-changing whole.

He further contends that we typically habituate ourselves to comprehend time through measurement, dividing it into equal segments. However, he argues that such an approach fails to capture the true essence of time. Duration is a quality of time that is immeasurable and can only be apprehended through introspective experience.

Summary
Through my research, I have discovered that despite our precise measurements of time, there are different concepts of time available for us to study and consider. Both Bergson and Whitehead argue that time is continuous and ever-changing, demonstrating that we do not necessarily have to perceive time in the same way consistently. There are alternative concepts of understanding time that may better suit the needs of modern society and individual preferences.
However, many people are not currently aware that there are alternative ways to perceive time. I hope that my work can stimulate public reflection on this matter and encourage individuals to explore alternative ways of understanding time that are more suitable for their own needs in the context of contemporary society.
Installation Sketches

The roll of paper is automatically cut into small pieces, and the pieces fall naturally, piling up underneath like an hourglass. Indicates that time is cut and then folded.

The clock in the background creates a contrast with the changing flow of natural light from the window, and combined with the fixed speed movement of the paper cutter, the difference between the natural flow of time and man-made cuts will be more clearly felt.

I, as the participant of the installation, pass the paper to the cutter's cutting point, and the paper is cut and falls naturally corresponding to the clock in the background, which is an artificial division of time.
Operating Procedure

The motor is connected to the transformer, after which the plugs are connected so that the motor can operate properly on household voltage.

The lower part of the telescopic unit can be rotated, and the linking motor allows the upper crossbar to telescope up and down.

Attach the telescopic unit to the cutter's cutting area so that when you swing the cutter up and down you can cut the white paper underneath.
Experimental Process
Paper Handler
Automatic Telescopic Device Paper Cutter

Backdrop
The bracket part of the paper handler is constructed with steel bars to form a triangular structure to maintain the stability of the device, and the upper part of the paper tube and the cylindrical bracket are as long as possible to maintain the same length. Finally, assemble the two to form a manual paper handler.
The main power unit used is the auto retractable motor, in order to fix the motor better on the paper cutter, I chose some connecting and fixing screws to assemble the motor, after measuring the distance to assemble the motor first.

Assemble the telescopic device, the paper cutter and the support frame to ensure the stability and firmness of the device, in order to prevent the phenomenon of falling off halfway through the work, and link the transformer at the motor of the telescopic device, so as to ensure that it can be safely connected to the household circuit.

The backdrop is assembled by fixing different clocks and timing devices to the original wall to represent artificially cut time.

Touching a false serenity
PROJECT
As China's modernisation process accelerates, the size of the family is gradually weakening, the large family system is disintegrating, and society is moving towards the atomisation of the individual.
The contradiction between the traditional family concept and the modernised family concept has begun to emerge, one of the manifestations of which is the conflict between the family-oriented concept of the traditional family and the individual-oriented concept of the modern society, which expresses the realisation of individual values. Therefore, we envisioned the possibility of using the individual family as an entry point to explore and summarise the types of conflicts, and to design a method to create a "folded space" for the functioning of the family in modern society.

Family Relationships and the Fold

Deleuze - The Fold
In the 1980s, French postmodern philosopher Gilles Deleuze, while interpreting and advancing Leibniz's philosophy, proposed the theory of folded space. This theory believes that the world and material are composed of increasingly smaller folds.
Specifically, the concept of folds enables Deleuze to creatively contemplate the process of subjectivity's emergence and, ultimately, to consider the potentiality and process of non-human forms of subjectivity.
In fact, to some extent, the concept of folds is also a critique of the classical philosophical descriptions of subjectivity, which assume the existence of a simplified internal and external (appearance and essence, or surface and depth).
Angle of intervention
In incorporating the theory of folds into the study of problems, it's because recognize that the issue under investigation is inherently a folded space a dynamic, compressed space. The problems at the folds are the ones we superficially identify, and to intervene, a fundamental solution must be sought.

Research interview
While we have identified that many adolescents are troubled by issues within their families and challenges in personal identity, we lack a clear understanding of the specific situations of individuals beyond our group members. To make our design more targeted, we also need to categorize different family situations and individual perspectives, which requires targeted research and interviews.
Therefore, we interviewed 50 young individuals from diverse regions and family backgrounds, categorizing them accordingly. The following are the types we classified and descriptions of typical interviewees from different family conditions.
Categorisation

Design Plan

Dialogue, as the preferred solution for resolving conflicts, should be intervened. Especially when dialogue fails to transform into "communication".
This plan attempts to transform "dialogue" into "communication" by employing absence and reducing the context.
Testing&Modifications

When a role in conflict realizes its crucial role in intervening and resolving conflicts, it is endowed with the identity of a third party.
We organize effective strategies under conflict categories into a guide and, by establishing an information hierarchy, facilitate intervention for different third parties.

The final presentation is the same as the above three scenarios, but it is more than just a display. The viewer can write their own questions on the 'letter', not just the ones we collected, and the viewer can also answer their own questions or give their opinion on other people's replies.
At the end of the walking booklet, we realised that the designer's personal capacity was limited and left an email address in the hope that someone could give us their suggestions and ideas, and make revisions and iterative updates. At the same time, at the exhibition site, we will also tell our own stories and problems, and communicate with the viewers, hoping to find a better and more suitable way to solve the current contradictions that the individuals themselves are in.
