Cara Plant, Senior Product Designer and Mickey Egan, Design Director, talk about the inclusion of outdoor apparel into the 2023 lineup, the creativity involved and the importance of incorporating sustainability in all aspects of design and manufacturing the best XTM Performance gear. Why has XTM decided to introduce an outdoor collection? ME: For some time, we have aspired to create this collection. The offering of outdoor gear allows us to authentically expand our selection of apparel and accessories. It’s functional and good-looking product that reflects our passion for embracing nature. Our detailed design brief also ensured that the collection aligns with our core ranges such as rainwear and Merino wool layers. Share your inspiration for the collections colour palette. CP: For the 2023 capsule we drew inspiration from nature and the idea of wellbeing, choosing shades that were both refreshing and classic. We kept our core products in mind and made sure that the colours could easily match back into our current collection. XTM produces gear with a sustainable perspective. How have you incorporated this practice into the outdoor collection? CP: We’re committed to using sustainable and eco-friendly materials for our products wherever possible. This selection of products incorporates recycled fabrics in the shirts and pants and, we’re excited to introduce for the first time Seawool®. An innovative fabric renowned for its low environmental footprint. Discuss your design process to achieve functional outdoor gear that also looks good. CP: Our outdoor clothing line was designed with comfort and mobility in mind. We opted for materials that are both strong and stretchy, to provide unrestricted movement and maximum comfort during activity, as well as Polygiene wash to ensure you stay fresh. We paid extra attention to our fit. Our hiking pants are adjustable and convertible, catering to the outdoor conditions and various body shapes and sizes. People are wearing performance gear for their daily routines as well as adventures. How do you see the XTM outdoor collection fitting in to the customers daily activities? ME: Our goal was to create a modern range of products that help you stay comfortable enjoying outdoor experiences for longer, yet still able to transition you seamlessly from the trails to a café or beer garden. We make use of quality materials for durable and sustainable designs, ensuring that form and function are of importance. We want you to feel good wearing our laid-back, first-class products.
