football club notes

What a big week in footy!

The Nangwarry Football Club would like to congratulate Marcus Thomson, on his 100th A grade game this weekend against Port McDonnell. Marcus has been a loyal piece of the Saints furniture for many years now with his wife Sarah, his kids Hayden and Maddie. Marcus finds himself normally playing across the half backline with his supreme racking le foot. He generally has to play on taller, quicker opponents but is always up for any challenge thrown at him. He doesn't mind sneaking up to the forward line either when needed with a Tally of 9 career goals he'd love to get an even 10 this Saturday coming! Coaching has been a big strength of Marcus with him coaching the junior Colts this year. Always helping or doing something for the kids, we can't thank him enough. This guy just bleeds red, white, and Black. We wish Marcus all the best Saturday, we all look forward to celebrang his milestone game and having a beer with him aer the game.

A big Congratulaons to Noah Virtanen who played his first game of A grade football at the Bay

Well done to all who organised ”Bogan Bingo” it was a great night and was also good to see so many netballers both senior and junior aend. We would like to individually thank our several major sponsors for supporng the Nangwarry Netball and Football Club for season 2023. This week we acknowledge Brody’s Bricks and The Gambier Village Pharmacy

Brody is a local self-employed Bricklaying & Stonemasonry contractor with over ten years’ experience. Brody played a number of seasons at Nangwarry and we thank him for his connued support aer rerement.

The Gambier Village Pharmacy provide quality service in pharmacy including all aspects from medicaons, special product ordering and sports management. We highly recommend Gambier Village Pharmacy for all you medical needs.

Sporng clubs would not survive without sponsorship, so we thank you very much.

Under 11: Today we ventured to the Bay and the weather was absolutely perfect for footy. Thanks to Port Mac for a few top up players. The kids came out strong and aacked the footy at every opportunity, tackling was also right up there. An all-round great morning of footy from all the kids. Let’s get out to training this week and do it all again next week.

Junior Colts: Challenging day against a really good Pt. Mac ouit. The boys toiled all day and never gave up which was great to see! Unfortunately for us Pt. Mac were all giants and made it tough on some of our first and second year colts but can't fault the team’s effort to sck with it and try and make a contest at every

opportunity

Senior Colts: We travelled to the bay today, normally were faced with wet cold and windy condions but not this me a perfect sunny day for footy. Our under 17s boys came up against a very good port mac ouit one that will be there at the end of the year I’m sure. Although the scoreboard tells a different story the boys had a crack all day, giving 110% effort around the ground. Some boys played in new posions and adapted well some playing their best games yet. Best players for the day Riley Edwards, Pete Davis, Jordan Dinnison, Brandon buon sanders, Wya Balshaw and new comer to the club and his first ever game of footy Alex lynch. We would also like to thank Port Mac for lending us players makes for a good game for the kids.

B Grade: In finals-like weather the boys put on a magnificent performance to beat Port Mac. It was a very even contest unl the last quarter, where the Saints where able to kick 5 goals to 1. We had winners all over the ground but with Josh Clayfield kicking 6 goals that was the difference. We were able to win the ball out of the centre, which allowed the forward’s to get first use of the ball. So let’s all get on the track this week and hit the ground running against Hatherleigh. Best Hoody, Sco, Josh C. Jarred, Jayden, Blake. We could name all the boys because they all played a role at certain mes. Goals Josh 6 Donny 2 Hagget 2.

A Grade: We travelled to Port MacDonnell to be greeted by what can only be described as perfect condions. Port Mac got the jump on us early and made good use of their talls in the good condions. Our back 6 held up well and we did have some good passages of play We regrouped at quarter me and our intensity lied from the outset and we played a good brand of football and remained compeve right up unl halfway through the last quarter. We connue to sck to our plan and week in week out we can all see the result of our hard work and commitment. Best players for the day were Jake Biggs, Logan Gibbs, Tommy Vanderhorst, Joel Virtanen, Andy Hyland and Luke Thomson.

Congratulaons to Saints stalwart Marcus Thomson on playing his 100th Senior Game for the club. Marcus deserves all the accolades this milestone brings, he is the epitome of what a club stalwart is about. Also would like congratulate Noah (Noz) Virtanen on playing his first senior game for the club made extra special by running out under the leadership of his older brother Joel. Noz has had a fantasc preseason and deserved his selecon in the side. And when his opportunity came he held his own and played very well. Looking forward to seeing all our supporters at our home deck when we take on Hatherleigh.

HATHERLEIGH EAGLES

football club notes seniors

A Grade: Last week saw us play some very patchy footy but luckily we sll managed to end up with the win. The Burr held the lead for ¾ of the game but with the margin not ever exceeding 2 goals, it was a real grinding sort of game. Both defences held up extremely well, making goals hard to find. Mt Burr’s speed and spread gave us some real headaches and our skills by foot we not helping the situaon. In the end, I was happy to just get the 4 points and move onto the next week. Again our best players were Max Telfer in defence, taking intercept marks at will. Jed Telfer and Will Chay worked relessly in middle, whilst up forward Lyndon Smith provided a great target and Paddy Chay kick 5.

B Grade: What a nice day of weather we were greeted with to kick off our second home game for the season, big day for the club being sponsors day Very thankful for all our sponsors that make this club the great place it is to play sport. We sat down during the week aer we thought we played prey poor the week before, I asked the group for a response, and as great sides do they respond running away with 142 point win, playing some great patches of football. Sid reeves took out BOG baling all day in the ruck. Jase Faulks had a good day around the ground named second. Mini Bowie had a great game in the middle. Big daddy kicked 5 goals to be fourth, Harvey Jones had a great game aer a quite start to the season to round them out.

Senior Colts: With the flu going around we played 14 aside against Mt Burr. In a fast paced game the boys came out winners by 6 goals in which was a game we can take a lot of posives out of moving forward. Oskar Howell

had a great game in the ruck and finding space to take a lot of marks. Tyson and Jordan Atkinson both played great games on the ball and hit the scoreboard in important moments. Isaac Chambers and Ausn Nele created scoring opons all day and looked dangerous up forward kicking 6 between them. The boys are starng to gel really well and we look forward to taking in Nangwarry next week.

Junior Colts: Back to back wins for our young eagles, last we came up against a short Mt Burr side, with loaning some players across everyone got some good game me. I was happy with how the team moved the ball throughout the field and our 2nd, 3rd efforts around the contests, Riley Haines backed up his best on from the last game, had plenty of the ball early kicking 1 goal 4 in the first quarter, Eli Sims was was second best snagging 4 goals, 3rd best went to Ned Fitzgerald was solid across half back reading the play well, 4th best was Tom bowering playing in the ruck with plenty of follow up efforts around the ground. 5th best was Billy Bowering, first year junior colt is not afraid to get in and under the packs, good skills have gives 100% at every contest.

Under 11: This week the weather was perfect at Hatherleigh, the boys had done their hair ready for photos and were all keen for the game aer Mount Burr didn’t have as many numbers so we played a game with mixed teams. The boys did really well sharing it around and playing some good footy. Mavea, Archie, Harris, Blake and George Ballanne (Mt Burr) all found good use of the footy and played really well.

Under 11: Last game we headed to Kalangadoo, aer the last few rounds with clubs scrabbling together a team, Kalangadoo had a strong side with 22 players, we sll had 18 players, the young fellas were struggling to find space in the small area, never the less they all got the chance to get a kick and played good linkups, great pressure all day. Best players were Zac Chaps - Shanks Engineering encouragement award, Asher - $5 voucher and Jack Spog - Fasta Pasta.

Junior Colts: Last week we headed to Kalangadoo. We learnt a lot from our previous game and made sure we came out switched on. Our leaders were great from the first bounce kicking our first in the first minute then we let them back in for a small patch but to our boys and girls credit we took back control and had majority of the play for the rest of the game. Our inaccurate kicking in front of goal kept the Kalangadoo team at arms reach so we had to bale all day so we will work on that during the week. Grace was best on ground for us going in hard all day and never taking a backwards step followed by Kaden who is starng to work hard both ways, Jedd who was a lot more direct and really took on what we have been chang about, Jake, Jackson and Jack rounded out the

best. Shout out to Evan as well who suffered a head knock and we hope he recovers well. Let's all keep working together and the improvement will keep coming.

Senior Colts: Last week we headed to Kalangadoo aer a couple weeks off due to the bye and Nangwarry forfeing. We had the luxury of having enough numbers this week to supply the doo with a couple of players, allowing the teams to have an even match. To Kalangadoo's credit they started the match very well with our boys being a lile scratchy at mes. Aer a very even first quarter we broke away and played an extremely good brand of football, linking up with each other and being very unselfish with the football. Very appreciave of the guys who put their hands up to fill in for the Doo each quarter, without that we wouldn't have had a game. Best players went to Sam Simmons, Ky Wichman, Ned Haywood, Jake Bevan and Noah Cockrum. Well done boys.

Reserves: Kalangadoo on their turf proved too much for our reserves this week. With sll a relavely new bunch of blokes becoming a team, we showed a lot of great passages which shows what our potenal could be. Best player was Zac Walker, crushing it in the middle and being a solid ulity. Other best players were Hamish Thompson, Brayden Hateley, Zane Walker, Jake Bromley and Tyson "Dozer" Holden.

Seniors: We played Kalangadoo at their home ground. Coming off a bye everyone was fresh and really looking forward to a challenge. We started slow but our defence was excellent keeping us in the game. We had a lot of play doing all the hard work unfortunately just couldn't hit a forward target and when we did we missed some great opportunies. Score board didn't reflect how we played but credit to the boys for our effort for 3 quarters. We have a lot to work on sll but to be honest our improvement has really come quicker then thought, it is impressive to see and be a part of. Best players in no order Jordy Ha, Brandon Pis, Jack Cytrowski, Hayden Brown and Darcy Pink.

Mini Colts: A great contest against Nangwarry, great sportsmanship from the boys, as we gave them quite a few players. Best players: Pt Mac Canteen Parker Byrnes, Zachery Howard, Taj Vandepeer, Brock Lewis.

Junior Colts: The weather gods were looking down on us on Saturday with a magnificent day at the Bay where we faced another undefeated side in Nangwarry. The first quarter was solid, but not fantasc as we managed to get a good lead going into quarter me. We weren’t using the ball as well as we would’ve liked, and we tended to crowd the forward 50 a lile too much. We talked as a group about areas to improve during the second quarter and wow did the team respond. Within 30 seconds we had our first goal on the board aer some brilliant work through the midfield and amazing forward delivery. We managed to kick 8 goals straight in arguably our best quarter of footy for the season. Throughout the second half we changed our side around to give others an opportunity to play in posions they don’t generally play and to their credit they were great. Our encouragement awards this week went to Cody Vandapeer who had some excellent contests at the ball. Oli Fox who’s having a wonderful beginning to u/14s footy. Maison Byrne who for a quiet lad always puts himself in great posion to contest the footy Taj Manning who played up forward and provided plenty of goal scoring opportunies. Declan Kain who managed to kick his first goal in junior colts and Gracie Carroll who was a wall in defence. Best players were so hard to pick in a sensaonal team performance however first best went to Je ‘Hot Dogs’ Lewis who marked everything that come his way and finished the day with 5 and handed off plenty of others. Kane Gilbert played the enre second half for Nangwarry and was outstanding for both sides. Brody Pra connues win the ball at will and bringing teammates into the game, also finishing with 3 majors. Naite Fox showed plenty of dash from half back late but also plenty of footy smarts early to put himself in good posions to help his team. Harry Carroll connues to play a great brand of footy. His pace and skill level are damaging all over the ground. Gracie Carroll was fantasc deep in defence and thwarted plenty of aacking plays from Nangwarry with great marks and equally good disposal. Off to Tantanoola this week and hopefully we can connue to put our training into pracce and keep improving. Senior Colts: This week Nangwarry came down to a picturesque Port Mac, where the weather was perfect for football. The Nangwarry boys were short for various reasons, but we had 11 boys play half of footy for them to make sure we got a game in. Thank you to those boys that went over there with no fuss and thanks to Nangwarry for coming down and making sure all the kids get to play footy. The first quarter we were outworked by Nangwarry who just wanted it more. Aer a rev up at quarter me the boys kicked into gear and played some beer footy. Ned's halime talk was interesng as he read the team out backwards, so our forwards went back, and backs went forward for the 3rd quarter. The

last quarter we kicked 10 goals. Best players sponsored by Alora Conveyancing were Zeb Chant who impressed with 7 goals, Bradley Neale who was solid for both teams, Mr Composure Archie New connues his form down back, Deegan Habner had a good game in the ruck, Brodie Anderson was strong with 4 goals and Jacob Spehr connues to use his strength.

B Grade: Port MacDonnell 8.5 lost to Nangwarry 13.4. The sun was shining, the grass was green, hardly any wind (rare at anyme!)… a good crowd turn out and all things poinng to a great day in The Bay and a chance of a fish and chip feed (if the shops are open!). The Jnr colts landed a convincing win, as did the Snr colts, then the B's had to come down from their mountain high win over Mt Burr and, like the Titanic, come back to the reality that not all ends well at sea. Like that ship, can you see the iceberg ahead? Nangwarry certainly kept a ght line and never let us run out too far in front. They were here for the big fish and it showed. While we were never out of the contest, we couldn't quite “hook” the ball cleanly and silly mistakes in our forward and back lines pushed up the turnover rate cosng us. That said, it was another champion effort from Aaron Harding as he not only kicked a goal but rucked and roved all over the ground giving him the B.O G gong again, while Nathan Brotherton certainly showed his versality, agility and shark like grace with his intensity to the ball also securing a place in the best players. Ma “Moscow” Roscow held the back lines steady, providing much needed stability throughout the game. Another old salt, Ducky O'Dine proved his value in the forward lines by kicking 4 of our 8 goals for the day while Dion Perryman, in a cameo appearance, booted one major as did Ma Stark. The triple J's, Jack Cawthorne, Joel Newton-Anderson and Jye Lile( also 1 goal) kept the fight alive in and around the packs. Aer a salty half me speech from Coach Addy that would make a mother blush, our game did improve slightly in the 3rd quarter but with a couple of quick turnovers resulng in goals to Nangwarry, blood was in the water (cue the tuba music…da dup… da dup… da dup, da dup, da dup). The sharks started circling! Our mouths runneth over and while unable to reign in our undisciplined play, we got snagged. We managed to reel Nanga's back in during the 4th quarter but as we struggled in the dying minutes we were again too late with the gaff and can now only lament the one that got away. We have been fortunate enough to have some high value players fill in for us (Snr Colts, A graders, Cameo's) as our numbers inevitably dwindle due to injury, work and apathy but reliance on these could sink the ship! With the decision handed down by the SANFL in regard to our leagues we have a chance to be a part of history as our MSEFL changes in 2024, but what of the legacy le in 2023? So get around your mates, get on the training track because 5 players does not make a team. It's me to fish or cut bait! As the season moves on we could find ourselves in very deep waters… and as Chief Brodie said… “We're gonna need a bigger boat!”

Junior Colts: The Eagles were a much beer side on the day and you can see that on the scoreboard. Even though we got lost there were bunches of great individual and team moments. Louie and Hunter, two of the smaller blokes out there, were matched up on some absolute giants but they baled well all day and didn’t back down once. The three leaders of the team Reed, Levi and Finn showed mountains of maturity and really stepped up their footy to another level. No goal scorers last week but we’re hoping for a beer result against Glencoe.

B Grade: Everyone always said coaching B grade footy is a challenge and last week certainly proved that. With a number of A & B grade players injured and a few unavailable our regular side was decimated. However, on the flip side this gave a great opportunity to a number of young players to get a full game and showed the advantage of having a large squad training and available for selecon, a luxury we have not had in recent seasons. We rocked up to Hatherleigh on Saturday knowing it was going to be a tough game against the reigning premiers and it proved exactly that. We were 7 goals down at quarter me and I asked the team for a bigger effort in the 2nd quarter. I got exactly that from the group and we managed to hold Hatherleigh to one goal. Aer half me the scoreboard blew out but I couldn’t queson the effort from each

A Grade: Round 5 saw us travel to Hatherleigh for a ripping day of football. Perfect weather & perfect condions made for a great game of football. The game had its ups and downs and was a great arm wrestle from both sides, a game that really hurts to lose aer the huge efforts given by our boys. Couldn’t be prouder of the way each player gave their all but unfortunately wasn’t enough and it’s one that will hurt for a while. We regroup now and look forward to this week’s big shield game vs Glencoe. Best players were D. Ridley who once again gave his all thru the middle and had the ball on a string nearly the whole game. Rooster Gamble whose speed and skills were on full display. Cal Sparkes who connues to grow as a ruckman and has a huge future. Brodie Hennink whose pressure, run and skill was huge. Andy Ridz who played well all day but his second quarter was outstanding & young Brady Sharp who has backed up the last two weeks huge efforts with another standout game. Another great junior who along with our other young guys has a bright future ahead. Back to Mt Burr for the McInnes Shield this week, another big game that we look forward to.

Wow, what a big week it has been in football. The long-awaited announcement of some major league changes has brought about a lot of conversaon around most dinner tables. There was never going to be a result that pleased everybody and only me will tell if the changes will increase or decrease involvement in local football and netball. Our main focus should be that we do not have any clubs fold or amalgamate for as long as possible. It is commendable that the MSE and the KNT have taken on the 6 clubs from the Mount rather than having them forced into recess. On a side note, I do some family travelling myself, biannually to Keith which is only 200kms away and I used to go twice a year to Hamilton, which is almost 150kms away. I find the road to Keith much smoother and quicker using SA speed limits.

Thankyou to our sponsors last week for match day sponsorships and best player awards. Cannot run the club without them. Also thank you to our volunteers, we had perfect weather last week with beauful sunshine all day, so some extra support was need manning the BBQ or being a waterboy We hosted Robe and had mixed results across the board.

Junior Colts: The Junior Colts had their biggest win of the season so far. Winning 18.14.122 to 1.0.6. Dry condions finally allowed us to move the ball with pace and run together to put up a decent score. We started extremely well and were able to put some consistent score together extra quarter to build some much needed percentage. Goal kickers were very much spread with 12 different goal kickers and a true testament to our depth. Best players were Kade Mulraney, Kallan Price, Hamish Gordon, Jed Sinkunas, Sam Haase and Les Jaager. We now sit 2nd on the ladder

Senior Colts: The Senior Colts started the game very slowly giving up 4 goals in quick succession. Aer that though they started to play much beer contested football and slowed Robe down and were able to match them on most parts of the field. We slowed their scoring down and only gave up 4 goals for the rest of the match. Again, we struggled to find that final avenue to goal, but Tobi did manage to kick our solitary goal. We ended up going down by 48 points. A lot of improvement was shown, and the boys should be pleased with their

efforts. Best players were Kallan Price, Tobi Signorelli, Tyrone SiebertNorman, Josh Younger and Kaleb Price.

B Grade: The Reserves showed a much improved effort and contest all game. We let a fair few easy goals slip past in the first half to be down by 7 goals at the main break. But in 3rd term we outscored Robe and found our compeve spirit. We kicked another 2 in the last quarter, but let a few more goals slip through as we ran out of legs. The final result was a 64point loss. A lot beer effort this and hopefully the lads can get a win this weekend. A special menon must go to the 6 Senior Colts who played Reserves, and the 3 who played A Grade. The all did a tremendous job and are the future of this club. Last year we barely had 10 Senior Colt players so to have 9 play 2 games this week (along with 2 more doing boundary) shows that we have recruited and aracted young players to the club who are enjoying their footy. Best players for the Reserves were Darcy Williamson, Tobi Signorelli, Bevan Lipscombe, Sam Hentschke, Isaac Stubberfield and Shannon Megaw

A Grade: The Seniors came up against the top side and the only undefeated team in the comp. No one in the league would have given us a chance, but we played brilliantly for 90% of the game and held our own against probably 1 of the 2 premiership favourites. Only a 5-minute lapse in the 3rd quarter where they took 4 marks for 4 goals was the major difference. In saying that we were very unlucky for most of the day and the ball just wasn't bouncing our way on many occasions resulng in goals going the other way. We baled all game and mounted a come back in the last quarter, but a couple of silly free kicks saw Robe kick the last couple. Hopefully we will be back on the winners list this weekend. Best players were Dylan Pfitzner, Dylan Childs, Tom Edwards, Zacc Cocks, Henry Smith and Alex Hentschke.

Aer dark was where some people did their best work with our annual Beer Pong Tournament. Jack Miller and Jack Radley were the overall winners. A grade night, with some great costumes. Well done to the Social commiee.

This week we head to Mt Burr to take on the Mozzies. Hopefully we have a few more grades get a win.

Junior Colts: A result that does not reflect the team’s talent, or enthusiasm. There is no doubt that they all tried hard, unfortunately it was not good enough. Why? Because we did not play the way we train. Too oen we did not deliver the ball accurately when under pressure, we did not aack the ball with intensity, or be responsible for our direct opponent oen enough. These are things that we have focussed on and will remain focussed on. In a nutshell ‘accountable football’ That said, I am confident that the team is up to the challenge and will soon turn this losing streak around, by having more players doing all the things that they know is expected of them, and that they have agreed to. Credit must go to the Glencoe boys for their efficient use of the ball, and their fast style of play Hopefully our guys remember the experience, learn from it, and put it into pracce. For us, there were some real ‘standout contribuons’ that deserve to be acknowledged. John was inspiraonal, his work ethic is second to none, he worked relessly in ruck and around the ground. Flynn and Brodie worked relessly, led by example, displaying great on field leadership. Saxon was rock solid on the half back flank. Braxton with his ferocious aack on the ball was a great example to his teammates of how to play the game. Incenve AwardsUnion Cafe’: Braxton Maczkoviak; Denton Sports Power: Flynn Collins; Robe Seafood and Take Away: Saxon Marn. This week is a must win game. If we have all players contribung, following advice, and doing what they have to do, I’m sure we will have smiles on our faces at the end of the game. Give it your best shot! No

excuses!

B Grade: It was a sunny day at Glencoe which was nice for dry football. With a couple new faces for this year playing there first game, we needed to come out firing. From the first quarter we moved the ball well straight through the middle. Mason Keane from centre half back was construcve and found himself a new posion. In the second quarter we kept piling on a few more goals. The half me break talk was simple, don’t take our foot off the break now. We had a handy lead and lucky we did as the second half was not how we want to play football this year. Some highlights though where Crossy kicking a few goals from the middle and Nick Hurst being solid like always. This week we have Kongorong at home and is a must win for us to keep in the top four. Go Roosters!

A Grade: Fantasc weather at Glencoe saw a ght entertaining game of Football and while Robe were always in control of the match Glencoe provided a good contest that belied their win loss result this season. Robe appeared to go outside coach Brown’s game plan and mucked around with ball and tendered to overuse the ball instead of going direct into their forward line. When they did go forward however Wachtel provide a target at CHF and end the match with six goals which was the difference between the teams. Deane controlled CHB but could have been more direct at mes however this is a minor cricism. The engine room of Duon, Lawrie , Woodward and Pet provide a great mix of hardness at the contest and great skill. Next week Robe host the Hawks at Robe.

football club notes

A mostly successful day on field two weeks ago against Glencoe, with both Senior Colts and Seniors geng their first wins for the year, and the Reserves bouncing back aer the previous week’s loss to secure a very strong win. Hopefully the bye has seen everyone have the opportunity to refresh and ready to take on Robe this week. Notes and awards as follows:

Under 11: Against Glencoe the minis focussed on playing in their zones to stop crowding the ball and allowing all players to parcipate in the game. They all connued to apply pressure to their opposion, and for their age and size, were amazing to watch. Awards: Intersport - Eli Aikenhead, Club Award - Judd Buntsma, Club Award - Coby Brant, Coaches AwardNash Brant, Rob & Amy Whiy Award - Brody Stevens, Presidents AwardToby Telford and Donut King - Jack Maidment.

Junior Colts: This week it was good to have a full squad back on deck, unfortunately it wasn’t enough to help us over the line against a strong Glencoe side. The boys were able to sck with them for the first 3 quarters being down by 2 points at 3qtr me but ended up without enough legs to finish off. Sam McInnes had a running role on a wing earning him 6th best. Declan Richardson with again a strong midfield game geng Paradise Pizza 5th best. Ryan Lucas doing a majority of ruck/midfield - Janeway Plumbing Award, 4th best. Blake Telford worked hard all day in the midfield being a leading target on the way out of the backline with Spot-On Fishing 3rd best. Aussie Disposals 2nd best went to Axel Page playing a key backman’s role and geng us out of trouble when we needed it. First best went to Jacko Bald aer being sent to full back, competed and worked all game at the opposite end of the field he might normally be sighted. Good effort by the boys overall, we headed into the bye 2-2 and look forward to Robe this week.

Senior Colts: A great win by some 7-8 goals was finally the reward for effort we have been chasing. Tyler Richardson (second best) and Shak Von Stanke (fourth best) had good performances in front of goals, boong four goals each. Will Von Stanke took out best player with another strong performance, Toby McKinnon’s defensive efforts earnt

him third best, with Harrison Elletson and Axel Page rounding out the best players. Junior colt boys connue to fill in and step up each week, and hold their own in the team. A tough assignment to take on Robe on their home ground this week, but we’re up for the challenge.

Reserves: Not oen do you walk into a B grade selecon and actually have to think about what to do with too many players, so it was important the guys who were selected came with the right atude. Fortunately they did, and we were able to come away with a nice win. Most pleasing was the team first atude and defensive applicaon to not let the opposion score. We sll have a lot to work on and that’s the plan over the coming weeks. Best players could have been shared amongst the whole team, but we had to select five. First best was Andrew Telford - Killara Food Centre, Jacob Arthurson - Commercial Hotel Award, Braidon Frost - Collins Court Butcher Award, Bohdi PannenburgPick Ave Deli Award and in for his first game, Adam Searle - Club Tea Award. Mug award went to Robbie Hein.

Seniors: A more consistent effort across three quarters saw us finish on top at the final siren. Brandon Kranz’s 110% effort yet again, saw him take home the K & S Fuel Award and also rewarded with the ‘Mug’ and first best. New to the Club, Tyrone Rayner, is finding his feet in the team and took out the Collins Court Butcher Award. Young gun Jack Ausn, up from Senior Colts for the second week, got the Club Tea Award as third best, May Roberts’ work rate across the back line saw him earn the Commercial Hotel Award. Even with a dodgy leg, Will Vickery connued his good form with the Killara Food Centre Award, and with a personal best of 7 goals, Jacka Ryan rounded out the best players for the week. A successful Shuffle Night was held aer the game where everyone had a ‘smashing’ good me! Corben O’Dea taking out the prize money, and well done to Tilah Buckingham on organising it all.

Good luck to all football and netball teams, as we enjoy the hospitality of Robe for the weekend.

1st qtr 2nd qtr 3rd qtr 4th qtr final robe kongorong
Darwin Footy also saw Ethan Norman and May Roberts experience a new form of the game, a great spectacle for all.

NANGWARRY vs HATHERLEIGH

The Eagles head to Nangwarry this weekend to face off against the Saints. Hatherleigh’s defensive line-up of Maddie Redman and Elly Redden will work relessly to shut down Nangwarry’s goal circle of Hayley Vanderhorst and Demi Hoffmeister. Nangwarry’s Cassie Dinnison and Briany Dycer will work hard through the mid court to bring the ball down the court and feed into their goalies, however they will be well matched by Erin Watson and Lara MacGregor. Saints defenders Chrystal Lock & Kayla Gray will have their work cut out for them by Hatherleigh goalies Demi Vanderhorst and Maddie Pulmer and will need to work hard to secure any rebounds. Hatherleigh will come away with the points in this game.

TANTANOOLA vs PORT MACDONNELL

Port MacDonnell travel to Tantanoola this weekend in the match of the round. Port MacDonnell defenders Alysha Coon and Alana Berkefeld work relessly in the circle and will create issues for Tantanoola’s Keryl Ousey and Jami Walker. Kate Varcoe and Casey Walker feed accurately into their goalies, however the pressure of Liza Mutch and Kate Faint will make that task more difficult, especially paired with the strength of Berkefeld and Coon. Tantanoola’s defenders Kate Bromley and Tayla Rowe will keep up a strong level of defensive pressure and use this intensity to make it hard for the Demons goalies, Megan Hein and Kori Collins, to get the ball, with all players fighng hard for every rebound and possession. This game will be a tough bale and either team has the potenal to finish the day with the win.

mount burr vs glencoe

The Mozzies host Glencoe in what has the potenal to be a close game. Mount Burr’s midcourt combinaon of Laura Schultz and Ella Easterby combine well and feed their goalies, Lauren Wheeler and Ebony Clark. Glencoe youngsters Sarah Edwards and Chelsea Owen work well in the defensive circle for the Murphies, showing experience beyond their years, and will create turnovers which will be guided back down the court by Donna Jaeschke. Jaeschke and Alice Tentye feed well into their goalies, Jenna Paproth and Chantelle Cocks, who are both very accurate shooters, able to convert from the Murphies’ turnovers. Mount Burr’s Megan Thiele and Olivia Dean use their strength in the defensive circle for the Mozzies and are able to pick off high passes, creang opportunies for their team to score. This game will be a tough tussle; however, Glencoe will likely come away with the win.

robe vs kongorong

Kongorong head down to Robe to play off against the Roosters in round 6. Riley Buckingham and Emily Lightbody fight relessly for the Hawks and will snatch up any loose balls or potenal rebounds from Robe goalies Tori Gluyas and Demi Carter. Kate Wright in Wing Aack will work overme for the Hawks both on the offensive and defensive however Robe’s Ellen Ramke will make her earn every possession. Down the other end of the court Tilah Buckingham stands strong under the post and is paired well with Sarah Gardin in the goal circle. Emma Wheal and Georgia Perkins work hard in the defensive circle for the Roosters and will create pressure and turnovers for their team, converng through their goalies with accuracy. This game will likely go the way of the Roosters however Kongorong won’t let the win go without a tough bale.

NETball club notes

The Nangwarry Netball Club would like to say well done to all the girls that trialled this year for country champs in June - Kaylee McNair, Skye Virtanen, Kiara Epiha and Emily Timms. A special menon to Darcy McNair who was selected as a reserve for the 13's team. A number of people commented to me on Saturday about how much talent we have coming through our Junior ranks, it is such a posive comment and excing to watch these girls and boys as they connue to grow and learn.

Well done to all who organised ”Bogan Bingo” it was a great night and was also good to see so many netballers both senior and junior aend.

We would like to individually thank our several major sponsors for supporng the Nangwarry Netball and Football Club for season 2023. This week we acknowledge Brody's Bricks and The Gambier Village Pharmacy

Brody is a local self-employed Bricklaying & Stonemasonry contractor with over ten years' experience.

Junior 2: Round 5, the weather down the bay was perfect this weekend. All the girls played very well this week. We are so proud of how much they are learning every week. Maddie Thomson scored the one goal for this week's game. Best players for this round were Scarle Heron for her great teamwork and for being versale with posions and Kaylee Hunter for her brilliant defending.

Junior 1: Another good game this week girls, so proud how you are all improving week aer week. All the hard work you are all doing at training is paying off. We are showing some good paence in aack moving the ball around a lot more and using the ring to feed our goalies. Defence are really pung on the extra pressure every week turning over so many balls. Everyone is working super hard. Let's just make sure we chase up the loose balls though not watch them go past us. Keep it up. BP Nangwarry award went to Zoe for good defence.

13 & Under: Great job guys on a really strong first half of the game but Port Mac came back stronger in the second half, securing them the win. Darcy and Lucy are really starng to find their way in goal circle together. Ella had some great passes into the shooters. Immy and Paige used the free space well down the court and Ruby had some great defensive pressure in the circle. Best players were Ella and Darcy with Ella geng the award.

15 & Under: Well done girls, what a great game. We definitely had our chances to win and although we didn't we can hold our heads high from your effort in warm condions. Skye and Kiara again played another great game passing well and gaining many intercepts to get us plenty of

opportunies. A great team effort and hopefully we can connue this form this week against Hatherleigh. Thank you, Ella, for playing last two quarters taking place of Keira due to injury. Speedy recovery Keira. Wendy's award Kiara.

17 & Under: Today just wasn't our day We couldn't find the right momentum, our leads were off and we lacked the communicaon on the court. At mes we broke through it and started coming in front and switching on but then we reverted back, which we needs to really focus on at training. We will get there but we need to all start fresh it's a new team and it will take me to gel. Bad luck today girls.

B Reserve: Today definitely had some good patches throughout the game Maddy and Chloe worked amazing down in defence keeping that pressure on? We need to remember to keep playing our own game, keeping those heads up we sll are a new team trying to find our feet, sll missing key players and a few injuries on Saturday. Mid court did a great job trying to get it down, sadly Port Mac was just too fast and our fitness and not geng in front really let us down. Thank you to both Eadie and Bella for your efforts on Saturday. Best player this week was Chloe Haskins the effort you put in every week is amazing.

B Grade: What a beauful day in Port Mac it was, the sun was shining and we began well, only a few goals down at the first quarter break was a glimpse of what we as a team are able to do. We had some great passages of play and are beginning to put into pracce what we try at trainings. We just need to be able to string together 4 quarters and this will come with some more fitness and training together. Kate combined well with Shandeen and Zoe in the goal circle, they rotated well and were able to hold their own. Ellie and Krissy are finding their feet and read well off each other on the defence circle. Alisha, Amelia, Montana and Giorja played a great game in the middle.

A Reserve: The sun was out and our first quarter we showed we came out for a reason. Unfortunately fitness got us as well as the heat and we came undone. As a new team we need to focus on what works and build it from there because what our first quarter showed us today is we are capable if we can consistently do what we did over the 4 quarters. Sll lots to work on at training but we will get there, unfortunately we didn't come away with the win today but we should sll be proud of how it felt on the court.

A Grade: A much beer game this week girls. We were a lot more paent and were playing our own game most of the game. Aack line worked hard all game and just kept moving the ball around and ulising the goal circle to find the space to feed the goalers. Just need to remember to step in front of our players and cut into goal ring, not always run behind especially when on the baseline. Defence worked well together, reading the ball well and rebounding strongly on any missed shots. Just struggled at mes to bring ball out of defence which we will work on this week at training. A much beer effort though girls and we will improve every week of we sck together and work on these things at trainings. Award went to Chrystal this week for great defence.

Junior 2: On Saturday we came up against a strong and tall side which really made us work hard for the ball and contests. The girls matched their ability to get the ball to the right places and created really good passages of play. It was good to some of the girls use the ring and re-offer rather than throwing over the top of Mt Burr's tall defenders which wasn't working for us. Awards: Georgina Hassell (Beggs Bean & Bar), Indi Haines (McDonald's – Mt Gambier, Emma McGrath (HLC).

Junior 1: In perfect condions everyone stepped up to the challenge against strong opponents. Defensively we shadowed our players and recovered quickly to get our three feet and our hands over the ball. It is posive to see everyone using the correct technique when shoong, they may not all go in but with connued pracce the accuracy will come. Our vision down the court is strengthening every week, as are our choice of passes. A great team effort today. Awards: Sienna Varcoe (Macca's –Mt Gambier), Hazel Hamilton (Beggs, Bean & Bar), Kaia Green (HLC).

13 & Under: Hatherleigh def Mt Burr 4926. A strong team effort today Defensively we were on our toes, used our outside arm and made our opponents work for every pass. We were able to create many turnovers, which we were able to capitalise on. Our aack line was open, we used prelims, held strong and were paent when passing into our goalies. We need to keep working on our transion from defence into our aack line, making strong drives and valuing the ball. Well done girls, your ability to work hard every week is a credit to you!

Awards: Tilly Prouse (Macca's – Mt Gambier), Livvi Faulkner (Beggs, Bean & Bar), Mollie O'Connor (HLC).

15 & Under: Hatherleigh def Mt Burr 6128 – no notes supplied. Awards: Poppy Fitzgerald (HLC), Kalli Nele (McDonalds –Mt Gambier), Chloe Bellinger (Daisy Sun the Label).

17 & Under: Hatherleigh def by Mt Burr 39-60 – no notes supplied. Awards: Deni Brown (Daisy Sun the Label), Ayrlie Chambers (HLC), Bella Gysbers (McDonalds – Mt Gambier).

B Reserve: Hatherleigh def Mt Burr 47-39. A warm day at home put both teams fitness levels to the test. Sally ran a solid four quarter effort in C and WA providing drive, re-offering, and vision into the goalies. Eliza played another blinder, shoong with accuracy throughout and also strong under the ring for rebounds. She was well supported by Melita and Sarah who both stood strong against a tough Mt Burr defence. It was certainly one of our toughest games of the season thus far, with Mt Burr connuing to claw their way back throughout the game. Although at each change Hatherleigh managed to cling on to a small lead. The defensive pressure from all players really made the difference between the sides. Hatherleigh were able to shut down Mt Burr's drive and Nic, Grace and Fi stood tall in the last line of defence making Mt Burr work for every goal. A great team effort. Awards: Sally Bateman (HS&RC), Eliza Burton (Somerset Hotel), Grace Abbo (Ducky's Surf).

B Grade: Hatherleigh def Mt Burr 56-21. A great confidence game for all seven players. With no changes for the game, it gave us an opportunity to sele. Georgia & Ellie combined well in the circle and shot accurately. Meg had her best game for the season, driving into the aack line and feeding the goalies with precision passes. Jaz ran at C all day and got her hands to many balls and as always gave 100%. Nat worked hard at WD, denying

the Mt Burr feeders any opportunity to feed easily to their goalies. Sophie and Ella's pressure in defence limited opportunies for the Burr goalies and any rebounds were snapped up. The movement of the ball all over the court was great with clear leads and passing and the full court defensive effort of all players was awesome restricng movement for the opposion. Thanks to Sarah Beare and Niah Faulkner for sing bench. Awards: Ellie Cook (Somerset Hotel), Nat Chambers (Ducky's Surf), Sophie Gibbs (HS&RC).

A Reserve: Hatherleigh (65) def Mount Burr (23). From freezing cold last week to like-summer today, it was great to play on dry courts and have a much less physical game. Our goalies Eliza, Abby and Ali all found great rotaon and space in the goal circle with outstanding shoong by Abby at 90%. Our mid-court was swapped around a bit to give everyone a rest and every combinaon from Shayla, Georgia, Ali, and Eliza worked well and we once again showed great speed and hard hing to the circle edge. Lucy and Cate shared the WD posion, and both had an impact shung down Mount Burr's drive, creang turnovers and forcing limited space allowing our circle defenders to have a go. Our defence end won the awards for the day. Cate and Millie starng in the circle and applying pressure right from the start with ten defensive turnovers and at quarter me Sarah and Millie joined forces and connued the great work, turning the ball over for us with a total of 45 turnovers for the game, an outstanding effort! We are connuing to grow as a team and for each other and its excing. Thank you to Niah Faulkner from our 17's who connues to sit on our bench and train with us every week.

Awards: Millie Smith (Somerset Hotel), Lucy Corman (HS&RC), Sarah Broadhead (Ducky's Surf).

A Grade: Hatherleigh (46) def Mount Burr (37). A great team game today seeing us connue to build & put on court our structures we are working hard on. To go from icy condions last week to hot condions this week was certainly a challenge for the girls, but their work rate was unquesonable. I asked for early goals to ease extra pressure and the girls delivered, the defence were having to work very hard against a quick Mt Burr aack line-up which had the game moving at a fast pace and was compeve right from the start. At quarter me we were down by 2 so by asking a few players to adjust a few things saw us having a 4-goal turn-around and geng the lead which, we managed to eventually build on. Our goalie's connecon was on point with great movement and Mads Pulmer played a fantasc game with Demi connuing to build and be a solid, consistent opon. Rosie worked hard all day with again precision feeding into the circle. Erin went hard all day showing true commitment when she hit the deck hard aer trying for a screamer! Larz had her work cut out for her on a very quick opponent, but she never gave in and worked hard bringing the ball out every me. Elly and Mads Redman had a tough task against a good goalie combo but connued to work hard to start stringing a few turnovers together by the end. A great team game which we fought hard to the end and reaped the reward of a win. Thank you to Georgia and Immy for sing bench, Anne-Marie Fitzgerald, Sarah Ellen, and Sam Nele for doing admin dues. Awards: Maddie Pulmer (HS&RC), Lara MacGregor (Ducky's Surf), Demi Vanderhorst (Somerset Hotel), Wood Duck Jumper = Mads Pulmer

Junior 2: Not one girl came off the court without sweat on their face, which showed you all put in a solid effort! We do need to work a lile more on cung in front of our players which will help with the flow down the court. Missing a few girls this week, hope they're all on the mend and can't wait to have them back! Best playersMcDonalds award - Lexi! You champion defender! Wendy'sMillie! There was some serious aggression from you today! Keep it up.

Junior 1: Once again we focused on defensive skills but threw in the challenge of trying some aacking moves. It was pleasing that all girls accepted the challenge!! Nyree received the Shanks Engineering Encouragement award for excellent work in both. Pippa received coaches award for her effort both at training and the game.

13 & Under: What a beauful sunny day for netball. The girls come up against a very tough, fast, skilled Kalangadoo team. We had some great passages of play in aack & defence & they all fought to the end. It was a great opportunity to try some different combinaons for future games at both ends of the court. Awards went to Emie & Apsara.

15 & Under: Well Madi & I were prey happy with the end result today. We knew from previous scores Kalangadoo were a very strong side. We concentrated on making sure we tried hard all game & held our heads high while pung on court things we have been learning at trainings. My goal I set was to not let them score 100 goals (like they already had twice this season) & to score at least 1 goal per quarter. We succeeded with both these 11-89. Rachael received the Fasta Pasta award for her many intercepons but also her aack down the court, Poppy received the McDonalds award for her non-stop effort all game.

17 & Under: Another win on the board for the girls this week. A really great team effort and you girls worked hard all game. Demi played a solid game in WA and in GS and your ming is amazing. Bella had another great game and is showing excellent leadership in the team along with co-captain Ebony

Although not feeling 100% you run hard all game. Kailah you played so well on the wing and fed beaufully into the circle. Molly you put another excellent performance out there and had the opportunity to run through the middle and turned some ball over for our goalies to score. Charli and Holly, your blocking out was amazing to watch, you have been working hard at training. Kaitlin, you read the play so well in defence and got some

great ps at WD. This weeks awards went to Holly Walker and Bella Poulish.

B Reserve: Great game today guys, very happy of how everyone played!! We need to capvate all our turnovers and score them, our defence all over court worked relessly all game! We now have shown we can do it by being 3 up going into the last quarter and being a warm day you all did wonderful!! Let's take this away on a happy note which will be such a posive vibe in coming into a few more harder games next few weeks! Best Tarrah Taylor award: Dentons sports voucher, Amy Mason: Tant voucher

B Grade: The Tigers went down in a nail biter to the Magpies. Aer being equal at nearly every quarter break the girls just couldn't hold on to their lead. In warm condions the whole team played their absolute hearts out, best on went to Danni Rutkowski whose defence couldn't be faulted all game, down the opposite end of the court Kirsty Johnson gave it her all right down to the last second and took home runner up. Special menon to Ash Fensom on her first game back for the season who didn't miss a beat with her goals, a very impressive game. Beer luck next me girls, let's go gers! Fasta Pasta VoucherDanni Rutkowski, McCourts Garden Centre Voucher - Kirsty Johnson.

A Reserve: Aer a slow start to the game with quite a lot of our errors the gers found themselves down by 7. Aer the first break we were able to sele a lile more and work on our game. Some great turnovers throughout the court from all players. The goalies of Shelby and Dakota is proving to be a great combinaon with understanding where each other are going. The half me break brought some changes with Krystal moving to WD and Leah in at WA. This move allowed some more free flowing movement down the court. Defensive duo of Lucy and Bianca worked relessly to keep sending the ball back to the aack end. At the final whistle we only went down by 3 without our full side. Plenty of room to work with and connue with our game of netball. Best Dakota – Dentons and KrystalDentons.

A Grade: Although not the result we were aer there was lots of posives to come out of the game. We had some really good patches of play and plenty to work on in the coming weeks. Our feeding in aack and our full court ming is really starng to work well. Looking forward to what we can achieve.

Junior 2: Well done on another great game girls - we missed training this week due to a lot of illness, but you all showed up keen, ready to go & listened so well. Everyone played their part again, such a great team effort. Emilee took numerous intercepts, Milah played an awesome half in C, turning the ball over several mes. Ruby's defensive skills were unbeatable, and Lucy played a beauful game rewarded with a couple of goals. Imogen again moved well in the goal circle, geng her arms up & pulling in rebounds. Pippa is coming ahead so well too, moving well into space & defending beaufully. Desny had a great game, shoong well & intercepng. She earned herself the Maccas award. Lile pocket rocket Ellie, gave her all, playing her usual consistent game, shot well & earned herself the Wendy's award. Great job girls!

Junior 1: The girls put up a fantasc fight against Nangwarry, but they were just too good on the day. Ana shot some awesome goals and Torah played an awesome game in defence. Thank you to our sponsors Subway which went to Eliza and to Wendy's which went to Torah.

13 & Under: Port MacDonnell 36 defeated Nangwarry 28. First half of the game was rocky although the girls found their rhythm and confidence within the second half. The girls gave their all, even when we were down. We tried some new/different posions with Roxy Day finding herself in the goals and Lillian Pengill in C. The defenders played a massive role in today's game by playing one on one down the defensive end, geng clean intercepts, and working the ball brilliantly down the court. Another impressive game girls! Awards: Addison Smith (McDonalds), Mia Spehr - Subway

15 & Under: Port MacDonnell 42 defeated Nangwarry 36. Bit of a slow start to the game today, nearly everyone was sick or had injuries, so this made things a bit tricky. Once we got the transion down the court everything else fell into place. Our passes were a lile bit on the dark side but nothing we can't work on going forward. Not having training this week definitely showed on court today, we have to remember we are a team and we need to back one another. A huge congratulaons to Lucy Neale and Roxy Day on making their Under 15's debut today. You both killed it and I am definitely looking forward to working with and using you girls in the coming future. You both did exactly what was asked from you without any hesitaon at all, so thankyou both so much for your help. It was a very close game all day, but each girl should be proud of themselves for fighng hard and geng the win. Awards: Roxy Day (Fasta Pasta), Lucy Neale (Wendy's).

17 & Under: Port MacDonnell 82 defeated Nangwarry 25. Round 5 saw us host Nangwarry in what proved to be a good win for our Port Mac 17U girls. We had a strong first quarter, our everreliable goalies once again providing accuracy in the circle to give us a lead heading into the quarter break. Alicetyn Stanley came on into C in the second quarter, a new posion for her and was controlled through the middle with some well-med leads. It was her change into GS for the second half, another new posion that earned her one of our best players for this week, holding strong in front of her player and moving the ball safely around the court. Our defenders worked relessly again this game, Ruby Moody backing up the strong start to her season from last week with another intercept heavy game this week. Bridie McPherson was back in aer missing last

week's game and was a reliable set of hands when rebounding and moving the ball through transion. Stevie Collins was named our second-best player for her incredible defensive pressure and her dominant performance through the centre in the last quarter. Despite Nangwarry's best efforts, our girls were able to come away with the win.

B Reserve: Port MacDonnell 56 defeated Nangwarry 14. Our defence really put in a great effort, well done. Great driving through the middle and into aack, finishing off our work with wonderful movement in the cycle. Keeping our work rate up throughout the whole game. Wonderful effort together and for each other. Best players Robyn Hill & Amber Moulden. Thank you to sponsors Victoria Hotel Shipwreck Bistro & Periwinkles.

B Grade: Port MacDonnell 61 defeated Nangwarry 21. Warm playing condions today as we faced Nangwarry at home. Our start in the first quarter wasn't as dynamic as usual, we made some unforced errors, but with some changes in the 2nd quarter we gained momentum and seled into the game. Rachel, Montanna, Jenni, and Kelly worked relessly in defence creang turnovers. Full court defensive pressure was evident, as Candice pulled in two very clean intercepons. Our aack line worked hard in defence and had some beauful touches and intercepons. Lilly and Elivia worked beaufully in the goal circle together. Ball movement and posioning the key to their success in the ring. Transion down court was executed with precision and showed well med leads, with accurate ball movement. It was brilliant to see the effort at training paying dividends on court.

Congratulaons Kelly on your 200 game milestone. Awards: Elivia Stanley (Shipwreck Bistro, Victoria Hotel Port MacDonnell), Jenni Taylor (Taylor Made Hair and Beauty & F45).

A Reserve: Port MacDonnell 67 defeated Nangwarry 31. Slow start today girls, just couldn't rale Nangwarry for the first quarter but we kept persisng, never gave up, and eventually got a solid lead. Cody and Kirby worked well together in the goal circle who were well backed-up from Belle Lamb, and Sophie Lewis through the middle. Nic, Izzy, and Kate worked overme in the defensive circle and were able to provide lots of turnovers. Our defence were well supported by Keyarnah in WD who applied pressure to block out the WA. Our next few games will be a test for us so again let's keep pushing and striving to succeed. Congratulaons to Sophie Lewis today, who played her first A Reserve game, you held you own up there and sloed in nicely. Awards: Cody Manning (Victoria Hotel), Kate Winterfield (Victoria Hotel).

A Grade: Port MacDonnell 64 defeated Nangwarry 33. Slow start to the game, took us a while to find out feet and take a solid lead. We had great transion down the court, but our tunnel vision and silly passing choices let us down on many occasions. Again, defence were outstanding and never gave up all game, they worked hard and provided many turnovers. Our aack line definitely improved as the game progressed and once everyone started to play their own game things start looking beer. We all looked bit flat out there today and not much on court talk, next few games will be a test for us on the court both physically and mentally, so we need to rise above it all and concentrate on our own and our team's game. Awards: Alana Berkefeld, sponsored by J O. Berkefeld (Victoria Hotel), Shannon Schiedl, sponsored by Birdie Blue (Victoria Hotel).

Junior 2: Another fantasc game against a tough opponent. You all gave it your best and didn't give up. Our defence worked hard all game to stay on their players and go for the ball every chance they got. Our aacking end has improved a lot with coming in front to receive their passes and using confident voices. Well done girls, you've improved so much! The Fasta Pasta award went to Alaska for playing a great game in every posion she played and having a loud voice when calling for the ball. The Zambrero award went to Lacey who in her first game back gave it her all and created many defensive turnovers against a much taller player

Junior 1: Well done girls on a great team effort, it is amazing to see so much improvement each week. We did a great job of coming in front and looking aer the ball, allowing us to have lots of scoring opportunies. Our defence and fight for the ball created lots of turnovers and intercepts. Awards this week went to Zoe (Fasta Pasta) for an amazing half in goals with her movement and Poppy (Zambreros) for a fantasc defensive game with many intercepts.

13 & Under: The girls missed Leah & her game plans this week, but played out the game with enthusiasm & never dropped their heads. We had some really great defensive moments but need to keep control of the ball when we gain possession. Out Aack worked well when we set up & took a breath. Hath 49 Mt Burr 26 Awards went to Isabelle Ballantyne (Sports Power) & Jessica Salo (Fasta Pasta).

15 & Under: Bad luck girls, it was a tough fight against a very strong Hatherleigh team. Stella, Sarah and Holly worked relessly in our shoong circle working the ball around which was backed up by our mid court girls Kaylah, Callie and Lexi that worked extremely hard on the hot day. Becky Sara and Gemma had there hands over every ball causing many turn overs. It wasn't our day today girls but we can learn from it and take it into next week. Thank you to Mandy for umpiring and Amy for scoring. Vouchers today went to Gemma (Cafe Melzar) and Sara (Dentons Sportspower).

17 & Under: Aer having to work extremely hard in the first quarter to move the ball into aack, you changed your game to make space and lose your player to meet the ball. Some good passages of

play through the court using our defensive players to drive the ball down court and be an opon on the line for our aack line. Great to see our defensive players playing a closer 1 on one game using "lile feet" to gain possession. When we put pressure on all over the court, it helps our defense line set up in the circle. The next step is to ensure we connue to put pressure on around the cirlce edge to force errors. Great combinaons in goals. It is important to remember to pass to the space and hold a lile longer before stepping to the ball taking the defense out of the game. Once again you all listen to how to make small changes to improve the game. Congratulaons Ella on winning the Cafe Melsar award and Oliviah for the Laura and Vicki award. Thanks Madi for umpiring and Kelly for scoring.

B Reserve: Was a tough game that was close enough to be in reach of a win. Some passing errors and not taking care of the ball, limited opportunies to capitalise on turnovers. It is important to pass infront and hold leads unl our team mates have the ball. Some great passages of play down court and when using the circle edge well, the goal circle was open for front feeds. Playing against an accurate goalie made it difficult in D. When you blocked out under the ring, any missed shots were pulled in. When you made a move to lose your player it was easy to move the ball safely. Remember that high balls put pressure on the receiver and allows the defender to be in the contest. A flat, stong pass will take the defender out of the play. Lots of posive things to take out of the game. Doing more of that will help get you over the line for a win. Well done to Karen for winning the Laura and Vicki award and Tracey for the Cafe Melsar award. Thanks to April for scoring and Lauren for umpiring.

A Reserve: Another tough game against a strong opposion in the heat. We started on the back foot and let Hatherleigh run away in the first quarter. We came back strong in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. It was great to see you all being flexible with your posions and working hard no maer the line up. We had a lot of the ball but struggled to ulise it effecvely in our aack line with many unforced errors resulng in Hatherleigh creang a big gap on the scoreboard. We sll need to work on creang space around the court and coming forward to the ball. Thank you to Colleen for scoring, Lynne for umpiring, Kelly for stepping in as Team manager this week. Thinking of Raelene and family Abbey, Jas and Macy for stepping up aer playing 17s. Awards Melzers - Maddi G, Muffin Break - Abbey

A Grade: Saturday was a magnificent day for netball at the Eagles home ground with the sun shining. Our strong start had us in front in the first quarter break. Our consistent accurate shoong from Ebony and Lauren in the first half was fantasc to watch, Ella and Laura feed beaufully into the circle making the defence work hard for every possession and a goal for goal game made for intense viewing. Our last half of the game slowly slipped through our fingers with a laps of concentraon and silly forced errors were swily converted on the scoreboard by the Eagles. Megan, Olivia and Caitlin had pace and pressure in the defensive third and pressure mid court from Ella, Laura and Lauren aributed to many turnovers. Unfortunately just not converted. Some beauful passages of play throughout the game shows what we are working on in training is coming through on game day Keep going girls, our turn is coming. Thanks again to umpires , mers, scorers and Team manager Tam for the help on the day

Junior 2: Well done everyone! You all did some great moving, talking and passing today and I am extremely proud of the amazing sportsmanship you showed to a very young Robe side. I asked all of you to change your game and you all listened which was fantasc to watch. Best today went to Ruby O (LICO Pty Ltd.) for some great shoong and movement and our encouragement award went to Paige F for great running, talking and intercepts. Again, well done everyone!

Junior 1: A great game by the whole team. Everyone did a great job focusing on their foot work to ensure we weren't stepping! Best player was Makayla (Metalworx) and Jaylee got the encouragement award.

13 & Under: Great game today girls. The weather was quite warm and it was good to see everyone keep pushing through the whole game even when they were feeling red. It was also great to see all girls adjusng to any feedback that was given at the quarter me breaks. There was great defensive pressure all the way down the court which provided many turnovers. As we menoned, it was very hard to pick best players this week because everyone did such an amazing job! First best went to Annabelle (Dycer Construcon) for reading the play well managing to then get many turnovers. Second best went to Isabella for having a strong first half in GD then moving to a completely new posion WA and giving it a red hot go. Encouragement went to Emmerson for geng many intercepts down the court and listening to and applying feedback from us coaches. This week will be a tough game so let's go out giving it our best from the first whistle!

15 & Under: Great effort today girls. It was a tough physical game. You all adjust well and kept your composure and played our game. We tried a couple of shoong combinaons and welcomed Chloe back aer injury. McKayla did a fantasc job being put into shooter for the first me and playing well outside of her normal posion. Kloe had plenty of talk down the court and heard from all areas of the court. Best player was Sienna (Maloney Plumbing) who stood tall and strong consistently throughout the game and stayed composed. Second best was Macca who contested every pass with hands over ball and held her player accountable. Let's keep converng training skills into our game day play each week.

17 & Under: A fantasc effort all day girls. Everyone was an opon from the first centre pass and defensive pressure in every posion saw us create opportunies and run well to make the most of your hard work. Was great to see Caitlin's close checking and combining well with Kayla & Giaan. Jena was always with her player and transioned well with those quick feet. Montana was excellent at GA in the first half working brilliantly also at WA in the second half Lara steadied the play and ran well at C for a quarter too. You finished off strongly in the last quarter ladies and your constant mid-court defensive pressure led to a well great win. Best player (Degaris Lawyers) Caitlin; Second (Fasta Pasta) Montana; Encouragement Jena.

B Reserve: Another tough game for us, however, I can see improvement each me we step on the court. We also had all nine of us fit and able to play this week which was great to see! We started strongly with some great ball movement, being turned over by defence and flowing down the court, giving each other space

and leading towards the ball. Our shooters put up some impressive goals and were fed well in the circle. In the second quarter we made a few changes and kept our lead. The heat, redness and our communicaon at mes contributed to a few lile mistakes towards the end of the game losing our lead, going down by just 4 at the final whistle. There were so many posives and some great individual and team efforts throughout the match. We will regroup, keep working on gelling as a team of nine, finding some set combinaons, and developing our voice and communicaon. Do me proud this week at Mount Burr! Best players went to Jacinta (Key2Sale) and Lydia. Encouragement went to Alarna for a fantasc first game back aer an ankle injury

B Grade: 38 – 51. Another tough game girls, we knew going into this game that it was going to be hard work. I was very happy with our first half, we all worked really hard to keep it level by half me. Our third quarter shook us a lile bit with a few mid quarter changes and adapons to make, but we remained in the game. Going into the last quarter being down by 4 we stayed strong and backed each other to get the first break, however aer a few lile mistakes and all being hot and red, we lost control of the game slightly and saw us go down by 13. As menoned aer the game, even though we ended up with a loss I was very impressed with our game and thought we did well. Our defensive duo worked hard to get many touches and turnovers all game long right down to the last few minutes and the mid court did well working relessly in the sun to get the ball down the court to feed into our goalies who shot well against some very good defensive pressure. Best players went to Kayla (24/7 Car and Dog Wash) and Kate.

A Reserve: Awesome come back girls! We had patches of excellent, controlled play and a solid 4 quarters from everyone that stepped on the court. Unfortunately, we just had a couple of patches where we made hard work for ourselves, but to be able to keep pegging it back was a credit to you all. Great pressure and back up all over the court from everyone – a real team game! Well done to Abbie and Max who fought hard in the circle all day Great paence & decision making from Chloe and Laura feeding in and working it down the court. Great last half from Jorja coming on at WD despite no preparaon. Maximum effort from Jessie today – ran hard, competed and brought the ball down the court all day when we needed. Hard to pick stand out Best Players (B & P Travel and Cruise) today – a real team effort!

A Grade: Really great game girls, our best hit out for the season so far. We have been working away at training to put us in a posion to come out with intensity and adjust our game when required. The game was very fast paced and Robe applied a lot of pressure, but everyone stood up and made good decisions to get the ball down court safely. Our goalies connue to build with their movement together in the circle and fought for any rebounds. Defence applied heaps of pressure for the whole game against some really speedy opposion. Alice (O'Brien Electrical) had a ripper game; driving out strongly all day for the centre pass and second phase and feeding paently. Your movement with Donna was very posive and helped open up the space a bit more. A great team game and four quarter effort. Keep pushing and improving on this performance.

Congratulaons to Demi for reaching her 100 games this week, fantasc effort – we can't wait for the next 100!

A Grade: Glencoe 53 def Robe 35. We came out firing in the first quarter, with great intensity and posive talk all over the court. The second quarter wasn't our greatest – with a few mistakes and Glencoe really stepped up. With Halle going into GA and Ellen into WD we saw some change in the aack line. Some great defensive pressure from Geo and Emma in defence and a great touches from our mid courters - Annie, Ellen and Halle. Great driving from Lucy and shoong from Demi, Tori and Halle. Congrats to Demi on her 100 games and coming away with the Calcua (Caledonian Inn). Incenve went to Emma (Steve's Place).

A Reserve: Glencoe 41 def by Robe 46. The Robe Roosters started the game with a solid start, intensity down the court and willingness to win! A bit too comfortable as the game went on and Glencoe tried to sneak back onto the score board. Our defence, Kim and Kez stepped up to get turnovers and our new shooter combo put in the effort to score the goals. Held onto the win and pushed through to the end! Calcua (Holiday) went to Alannah and Incenve to Keryn (Loaves & Fishes).

B Grade: Glencoe 38 def by Robe 51. Glencoe put the pressure on straight away and their consistent goalies had us sing 2 down at the first break. Too your credit you addressed the issues of posioning of the ball as we went into the second, realised we had a job to do and started chipping away at it. We are learning to play our own game and learning to send it home. This game saw many li their level of play with the win as their goal and it was good to see. Calcua (Holiday) went to a determined and feisty Ella carving it up in the ring.Incenve to Jadeo (Millicent Sportspower) who came back on at half me to successfully herd her WA out of the game. A couple of extra incenves today: one to young Sienna Brooks who stood up to defensive pressure to shoot with more confidence. The other to Maise who drove the mid court aer playing a whole game in ARez. The rest of the girls sincerely did the team proud giving their absolute all to take the chocolates home.

B Reserve: Glencoe 29 def by Robe 33. Well done to the girls on our first win for the season. Today we played like we wanted it and it paid off. As a new team it has taken a lile while to work out how to play with each other but today proved we are definitely geng there. Calcua deservingly went to Tamara today (Holiday). Tamara smashed all 4 quarters in centre and although it was hot and hard she stayed strong the whole me. Incenve went to Mardi (Union Café) who tucked and tumbled and shot an impressive game. Mahalia was given the hard task of 4 quarters in GD and boy did she smash it. Always there as a back up and numerous turn overs in the goal circle. Massive thanks to Lexy Hayes for playing a half in defence for us, the fresh leg's definitely helped.

Also thanks to Al who last minute sat bench for us. Cheers girls and well done!

17 & Under: Glencoe 48 def Robe 42. So so close girls, it's always the last quarter we drop our heads which we need to work on! Everyone came out fighng, we aren't used to the sun being out which we struggled with. Voice was used this week which has been our number one thing we have been working on! Best player went to Adelle (Hook & Harvest) for great determinaon in defence. Incenve was to Charlie (Millicent Sportspower), for some great hands to the ball and not giving up with the driving.

15 & Under: Glencoe 31 def by Robe 37. Our first quarter started a lile uneasy however, aer a couple of touches we seled and played our own game. By the end of the first quarter, we had a few centre breaks and were out in front. It wasn't an easy game, but we had plenty of fight for the ball which was great to see and that help keep us in front throughout the game. The posive talk on court is working well and we managed to come away with the win – the boost we needed and deserved today. Thank you to Stella and Holly for back up on the bench. A brilliant game by all the girls – well done and keep up the hard work. Best player went to Kaitley (Union Café) and incenve to Tess (Robe Seafood & Takeaway).

13 & Under: Glencoe 55 def Robe 3. The girls unfortunately went in with doubt looking at the taller opponents and this showed through most of the game and the end score. That being said they did well to keep going unl the end and we did find some great passages of play throughout the game. We had a lile change around of posions at quarter me and this helped build some momentum. We just couldn't get that score on the board. We'll get there girls. Well done! Best player went to Lacey Brooks (The Pastry Place) and incenve went to Holly Varga (Union Café).

Junior 1: This week we were very short and I spent the morning rounding up some helpers. Big thanks to Addy for stepping up from the J2s and doing such an amazing job in defence. Also big thanks to Livia who had to play a whole game for us before going on to play another game. My incenve went to Maddison SE Excavaons) this week for taking on board what she was shown and consistently using it in her game. Hope everyone is rested and recovered and ready for our game against Kongorong next week.

Junior 2: What an excing game! We got our first goal! Well done to Halle for scoring it! We all tried really hard and are improving each week. It was great to see everyone work together as a team, we all seem to be geng a beer understanding of where our posions are and what we need to do in them. Great work girls! Thanks to Glencoe for making it enjoyable game. Best player went to Bey (Caledonian Inn) for listening to instrucons well and leading in front.

NETball club notes

Junior 2: Great game today girls. We started off a tad slow but really brought our A game in the second half. Our defensive game today across the court was fabulous, with everyone really having a good crack at turning the ball over. In aack, we are sll tending to lead too early, aswell as leading behind our players. This will be something that we focus on at training in weeks to come. When we kept the play short, leading to the ball, we more oen than not, converted on the scoreboard. Keep on working hard on your basic skills, use your voices and the effort put in on the court will be rewarded. McDonald’s awards today went to Zoe and Sienna for their relentless aack on the ball, both in defence and aack.

Junior 1: The junior 1’s showed their talent today against Glencoe. All players put in 110% in defence, mid court and goals. Some great set ups and plays. Defence were pung the pressure on hard with plenty of intercepons and rebounds. Mid court were moving well with the flow down court and goalies were spot on with their shoong. Best players went to Allara, (H& L Scheidl donaon), Alyssa (Kongorong voucher) and Isabelle (Kongorong voucher).

13 & Under: It was a tough game for us today girls but I admire the way that you all kept your heads up and gave it 100% the whole game. We have a few things we need to work on, but it’s great to see you taking your feedback on board and applying it each quarter. Everyone did some great things today: Meeka did a fantasc job at pung pressure on her player for the whole game, Sophie chased up every loose ball, Lily slowed it down and controlled the play, Havvi and Flick both worked really hard to get in front of their players, and Abby did some fantasc shoong and accurate passing. Awards today went to Ashleigh (Zambreros) and Lily (Arena).

15 & Under: An excing game for us today! Aer a few changes in the mid court in the second quarter we were able to have beer flow down the court and ulized what we did at training! Good to have Addi back making the shoong duo with Rahni. Mid courters Lily, Demi and Imi making excellent plays down the court, ending with our defending power team abby and holly geng lots of turnovers. Best players today go to Lily Foster ( Zambreros) and Holly Awill (Fasta Pasta). Score 19-34.

17 & Under: Great game today girls. We started off a bit rough being down by a goal at the end of the first but then being back to level at half me. We really kicked into fear for the second half of our

game and were able to come away with a 12-goal win. Our games each week are really starng to show how compeve we are as a team and how much we’re chasing these wins, not leng anything go easy Also big congratulaons to Kyla and Hayley on geng their 50 game milestones this game. Best players: Kyla Gordon – Fasta Pasta, Hayley McInnes – Vanity

B Reserve: What a cracker of a game. Unlucky to go down by 1 goal but it was so good to see you all work so well as a team. You all played a great game with lots of pressure put on all over the court. We shot well today girls and were much beer at geng the rebounds. Defensive pressure was good in the ring and we were able to turn over more balls than we have been. Another good thing was our centre court was more open and not as crowded as it has been in past games. Awards: JulieF45, Amie – Bunnings.

B Grade: Well, that was a tough day at the office. The girls came up against an in-form Glencoe side. Our defence had their work cut out and performed great, never giving up and working hard with many turnovers. The mid-court girls worked relessly and our goalies performed well under pressure. Once our girls sele they will do great. Lots of effort but unfortunately not the result we would have hoped for. Best players were Macy Aard (Periwinkles) and Jas Poel (Lima and Co).

A Reserve: Tough game today. Very consistent work in defence with Ebony McLoughlin & Georgia Bald picking off and turning over at every opportunity. Mid-court pressure was applied from Heidi Finnigan, Emily Nicholson. Fantasc feeding in the circle from Zara Vonstanke. The shooters from today worked well and played the space, Kaylah Farrell & Sam fox. All in all, lots of posives to take away from todays game. Best players Ebony McLoughlin & Sam Fox. Milestone game (150) for Georgia Bald.

A Grade: Bad luck girls. Once again effort was high today, and defensive pressure was a highlight of the game, but we consistently are dropping these games ourselves through rushing the ball and not looking aer each other. We are capable of playing hard working, compeve netball but its up to us to keep each other accountable and pull through for the team. Best on went to Riley Buckingham and Kate Wright.

ROUND 5 A GRADE NETBALL REVIEW

Glencoe 53 def Robe 35

In sunny condions Glencoe took on Robe at home. In a highly ancipated game, both teams came out with intensity. The Robe team set the pace of the game early, with their midcourters moving the ball with speed and defenders flooding the court. Glencoe were able to match this speed which made for a franc pace to open the match. This pressure caused some early defensive deflecons for both teams to capitalise on before the game seled. As the quarter went on the ght checking defence of the Murphies’ Sarah Edwards and Chelsea Owen made it difficult for the Robe midcourters to find their goalies. Glencoe entered the first break leading by two goals.

In the second quarter the Murphies aacking end showed their dominance. Led by youngster Alice Tentye who was finding access to the circles edge with ease, the Glencoe goalies were able to find the post despite the defensive pressure applied by Robe’s Emma Wheal and Georgia Perkins. Lucy Perkins was the play maker in Robe’s aack line ulising her speed off the mark to always be a reliable opon. However, Robe was unable to penetrate ball to post as the Glencoe defenders worked hard to shut down the space. Edwards connued her ght defence on Rooster Tori Gluyas who struggled to make an impact on the game. Glencoe defenders began to fly for any inaccurate passes and were able to convert in their goal circle, outscoring Robe 14 to 4 in the second term.

The Roosters swung some changes at half me, with Halle Carter moving into Goal Aack, Ellen Ramke entering the game at Wing Defence and Gluyas going to the bench. The Murphies side remained unchanged. The introducon of H. Carter added some muchneeded movement to the Robe goal circle. Donna Jaeschke was having great impact on the feed for Glencoe and connued to combine well with Tentye through the middle. Despite some impressive challenges from Wheal, Glencoe was able to progress their lead with their goalers shoong at 100% for the quarter. Glencoe entered the final break with an 18 goal advantage.

Aer a hard fought three quarters, players entered the final term with some fague and the remainder of the game was at a much slower pace. L. Perkins connued to drive hard for the Roosters and connected with Demi Carter with ease. D. Carter found a new gear to finish the game and dominated on the hold, neng 12 goals for her side. The Glencoe aack line connued their form. As fague set in some errors crept into the game for both sides with some wayward passing. The Roosters were able to sck with Glencoe for the final quarter, keeping the final score at an 18 goal advantage.

Best players - Glencoe: Alice Tentye, Donna Jaeschke; Robe: Demi Carter, Emma Wheal.

Hatherleigh 46 def Mt Burr 38

A high standard game played in glorious sunshine with all players playing a hard four quarters in hot condions.

The first quarter went goal for goal with both teams accurate under the post. Hatherleigh’s circle defence of Elly Redden and Maddie

Redman were kept busy with some slick passing from Mount Burr’s Ella Easterby and Laura Schultz while at the other end Mount Burr’s tall defenders, Megan Thiele and Olivia Dean picked off several high passes to allow Mount Burr to take a three-goal advantage into the first break. Mount Burr led the quarter 16 goals to Hatherleigh’s 13.

The second quarter was a good one for the home side with Hatherleigh’s goalies Maddie Pulmer and Demi Vanderhorst working efficiently in the circle against quality opposion. Erin Watson and Mount Burr’s Schultz were having a physical tussle in the centre while Rosie Nele at Wing Aack fed Pulmer and Vanderhorst with some precision passing from the circle edge. Hatherleigh took a two-goal lead into the main break.

Mount Burr made one change at the break bringing on fresh legs in Caitlyn Payne to Wing Defence against Nele. Hatherleigh created lots of opportunies for themselves but with fague causing some inaccuracy under Hatherleigh’s post, the hard work in defence was oen wasted with some sloppy passes in transion giving Mount Burr the opportunity to stay right on their tail. To Mount Burr’s credit, they kept the scoreboard pressure on with Lauren Wheeler working hard to convert for the Mozzies, however Hatherleigh maintained a two-goal lead at the last change. Hatherleigh 35 to Mount Burr 32.

The contest remained ght early in the final quarter with Easterby and Schultz working relessly in the mid-court for Mount Burr, Hatherleigh’s defensive unit with Lara MacGregor doing the hard work out front saw the Eagles sele late in the game and take control running out winners 46-38 as Pulmer connued to dominate under the post. Mount Burr fought to the very end which saw a compeve and entertaining game played in good spirits.

Best players -Hatherleigh: Maddie Pulmer, Lara MacGregor; Mt Burr: Megan Thiele, Ella Easterby

Kalangadoo 75 def Tant 53

In warm condions Kalangadoo hosted Tantanoola with both teams starng the match strongly, going goal for goal with both aack lines scoring with ease. Tantanoola’s Keryl Ousey was a focal point in the goal circle and she combined effecvely with Jami Walker. Kalangadoo took unl midway through the quarter to develop momentum, with Lauren Kain and Lara Munro combining well to turn over the ball with Abbey Duncan and Ebony McDiarmid taking no me to covert with accuracy. Kalangadoo went into the first break with a nine goal advantage.

The second quarter saw the Tigers begin to find their rhythm with Tantanoola’s Centre Kate Varcoe driving strong and finding good posion on the goal circle. Kalangadoo’s Jane Auld at Wing Defence worked hard to limit Casey Walker’s feeding opportunies and created turnovers for her side. Kalangadoo went into the main break with a six goal lead.

Kalangadoo took the opportunity at half me to switch circle defenders moving Munro out to Goal Defence and Kain back to Goal Keeper, which had an immediate impact with a strong defensive effort by Kalangadoo forcing errors and creang turnovers.

Kalangadoo’s goal shooter Ebony McDiarmid had a solid quarter shoong 12 from 12 to help Kalangadoo extend the lead to have a 16 goal advantage at the break.

Both teams remained unchanged going into the last quarter which saw Tantanoola’s defence of Kate Bromley and Tayla Rowe step up their intensity to make Kalangadoo goalies earn every possession. Kalangadoo’s Chloe Peacock at Wing Aack was able to find space and feed her goalies accurately Kalangadoo were able to extend the lead to finish the match 76 to Tantanoola’s 53.

Best players - Kalangadoo: Abbey Duncan, Lara Munro; Tantanoola: Kate Varcoe, Casey Walker.

Pt MacDonnell 64 def Nangwarry 33

In absolutely perfect condions, the Saints travelled to Demon land for Round 5. Port Mac hit the ground running and Goal Aack Megan Hein sank her first goal within the first few seconds of the game. Saints defenders Chrystal Lock & Kayla Gray had their work cut out against Hein & Kori Collins, however there were some missed opportunies which Gray rebounded & Lock drove well out of defence. Down the other end Hayley Vanderhorst & Demi Hoffmeister gave their all in goals for the Saints, against the tough Demon defence duo of Alana Berkefeld & Alysha Coon. They also missed a few opportunies. Port Mac up 16-8 at quarter me.

The second quarter saw Nangwarry move Cassie Dinnison to Wing Aack & Briany Dycer into Centre. Pt Mac made no changes. The experience of Dinnison was helpful feeding into her goalies, Hoffmeister having quite a good quarter at Goal Shooter. The midcourt bale between Dinnison & Kate Faint was good to watch, neither player giving an inch. Shannon Scheidl at Centre for the Bay was playing a great game, providing plenty of drive. Collins also stepped up this quarter at Goal Shooter for Pt Mac, sinking 12, while Chrystal Lock held Hein to just 3 goals. Pt Mac up 31-17 at half me.

Both teams made changes at half me, Pt Mac brought on the fresh legs of Liza Mutch into Wing Defence, moving Scheidl to Wing Aack & the experienced Michelle Moore into Centre. Alysha Coon was rested for a quarter with Berkefeld moving back to Goal Keeper & Kate Faint taking the Goal Defence bib. Nangwarry switched Vanderhorst & Hoffmeister. The fresh legs of Mutch were a big advantage through the middle for the Bay Hein stepped up this quarter, shoong from anywhere, nailing 11 for the quarter without a miss. Port Mac extending their lead to be up 47-25 at 3/4 me.

The final quarter saw Coon return for the Bay at Goal Defence, Michelle Moore move to Wing Defence & Mutch went into Centre. The Saints again swapped Dinnison & Dycer. The Saints goalies had a more accurate quarter with Dinnison encouraging them on the ring. Saints defenders Lock & Gray really did give their all with some impressive touches & rebounding but Collins & Hein proved too strong, shoong 17 for the last quarter. The final score was 64-33 in favour of the Bay. Best players - Port MacDonnell: Alana Berkefeld, Shannon Scheidl; Nangwarry: Chrystal Lock, Kayla Gray
