The

MSEFL PRESIDENT’S welcome

As the 2024 football and netball season commences today, I take this opportunity to welcome all new and exisng players, supportersandsponsorstoourFamilyLeague.

Once again, 2023 proved to be another year of challenges for our league, a trend we've unfortunately grown accustomed to. Despite COVID-19 now feeling like a distant memory, we've consistently faced hurdles in maintaining the stability of our clubs within the league. Our clubs serve as the linchpin that binds our communies together, and yet again, we ancipate widespread changes and challenges across the football and netball landscape this year Now more than ever, it's imperave that all clubs collaborate wherever possible for the advancement of football and netball This collecve effort is crucial to ensure that each club remains resilient both on and off the field, especially considering the ancipated changes. While the exact impact on each of us remains uncertain, solidarity among clubs will be key in naviganganyforthcomingtransions.

I would like to express my gratude to all the finals hosts from last year: Hatherleigh, Tantanoola, Robe, and Port MacDonnell. Our Grand Final day at Port MacDonnell set new records for several reasons. Firstly, it recorded the highest gate takings. Secondly, the fantasc weather aracted a massive crowd. Thirdly, we witnessed four outstanding football matches and seven incredible netball grand finals Congratulaons to all the teams that emerged victoriousandclinchedtheulmaterewardofa premiership. For those who fell short, rememberthatredemponbeginstoday

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors for their invaluable support of our league. In today’s challenging landscape, securingsponsorshipisnoeasyfeat, andweare trulygratefultothosewhostandbyus. Iurgeall clubs and supporters to make the most of our sponsors’ offerings whenever possible. Let’s show our appreciaon by utlising their services andproducts.

The Board membership connues as per 2023 whichincludesPeterMitchell,DennisMuhovics (Vice President), Trevor Ling, Joanne Michelmore and Jo Dean. Naomi Mitchell has returned to the posion of League Secretary and we welcome Rochelle Monaghan as Assistant Secretary to provide valuable support and assistance to both Naomi and the League. PleaserememberthatourjobontheBoardisto assist clubs and make your lives easier, where possible!

I am pleased to announce that Neil Webber has been reappointed as Umpires Director with Ma Cockrum Assistant Umpires Director for this year Neil's unwavering commitment and resilience in this role have been exemplary. Recruing, educang, and supporng our umpires panel is an increasingly challenging task. We find ourselves at a crical juncture for our umpires, with our panel aging. If you've recently rered from playing or are eager to remainengagedinthegame, umpiringpresents an excellent opportunity. It not only keeps you fitbutalsoallowsyoutocontributetothesport while building connecons with players and club members from a different perspecve. Since COVID we have lost quite a number of regular umpires and it is concerning to the

Boardthatwenowrelyonclubumpirestoassist with reserves and some U17 appointments. We will also revert back to requiring two senior players from the club with the bye to be available to umpire each week. This has been previously well supported and I thank clubs for their backing of this scheme. The League also sll has in place the Umpires Scholarship program. We believe it will serve as a pathway to strengthen our aging umpires panel. We warmly welcome those who have recently rered from football, as well as young men and women passionate about the game, to join us. The League is eager to hear from individuals who share our love for football and are keen to get involved. I wish Neil all the best for the year inwhatIknowwillagainbeachallengingone.

Michael Mourbey connues as the SE Football Operaons Co-ordinator and his role is to providesupportforclubsandLeaguesaswellas taking on some of the administrave tasks of the Leagues. We think that this is a posive step for Football in the South East and look forward to some more posive outcomes with theaddionalresourceaswellasthesupportof theSANFLCommunityFootball.

The MSEFL Board in conjuncon with LCFNL & KNTFL will connue to operate the SANFL Tribunal system with a panel of commissioners selected from the three leagues. The Board believe this will assist with consistency and uniformity across the tribunal process, with clear set guidelines in place and having one person, Michael Mourbey following up with all reports to offer set penales or straight to Tribunalifdeemedtobesevere.

We look forward to working closely with the NetballAssociaonPresidentSaraGrayandher commiee throughout the year in the many jointventuresthatweworkon.

MSEFL Representave matches against neighbouring Leagues will take place at Blue Lake Sports Park, hosted by the LCFNL. The Zone Carnival is scheduled for Saturday 8th June. While we await confirmaon of the program details, we will have all sides, Senior, U17 and U15 involved. We are pleased to be able to provide our players with the opportunity to compete at a higher level and proudly represent the League against our neighbouring Leaguesonceagain.

Kevin Dinnison stepped up to the role of President of the Junior League just before Christmas, as no nominaons were received at theAGM.I'dliketoextendmysinceregratude to Kevin for taking on this leadership posion. He will be supported by previous Execuve members Gary (Tug) Wilson and Dylan Clough, along with new Execuve member Tamara Ploenges. The number of junior parcipants fluctuates across clubs and the league, presenng challenges for some clubs in maintaining their junior grades. I'm confident thattheJuniorExecuve, alongsidetheseclubs, will connue to work diligently to ensure their sustainabilityfortheseasonsahead.

Thankstoallthemediaoutletsforthecoverage our league receives and we look forward to anotherexcingseasonin2024.

On behalf of the League and all clubs thank you to all the wonderful volunteers that assist each week. If you don’t currently volunteer for your club, then please consider assisng with your

me / skills wherever possible to make your Club more successful and to share the workload. Volunteering is a great way to meet people and improve your skills as well as knowingthatyouhavedonesomethinggoodto assistyourclub–sodon’tholdback!

Clubs are currently facing unprecedented challenges due to the uncertainty stemming from changes in neighbouring Leagues, ongoing policy shis from Government and AFL, and the evolving requirements for insurance amidst the backdrop of COVID-19 plans and protocols These factors place addional strain on our dedicated volunteers. In South Australian country areas, three core issues persistently impact Leagues and Clubs: low junior player numbers, a scarcity of new volunteers, and a shortage of umpires, with the laer being primarily an aging demographic of football enthusiasts. It is crucial for all clubs to distribute the workload effecvely, establish robust procedures, and ensure mulple individuals are proficient in various tasks. Clubs and Leagues must priorise organising their operaons, revising strategic plans, and reinforcing exisng strategies to foster growth and sustainability. Key focus areas for clubs include facilies, junior development, volunteer recruitment and retenon, financial stability, risk management, and community engagement. Leveraging resources such as the support provided by Michael Mourbey from SANFL can help alleviate the burden on volunteers, albeit within reasonable expectaons While Michael can't address every challenge, his assistance can make a significant difference. It's imperave for clubs and the League to capitalise on their strengths, address weaknesses through remedial plans, and strive forconnualimprovement.

Football clubs must maintain their posion as community leaders by fostering stronger partnerships and relaonships with all stakeholders. Addionally, volunteers should strive to leave their clubs in a beer state than when they first joined, ensuring a lasng legacy ofprogressandimprovement.

On behalf of the Board, we wish all clubs the bestofluckfortheseasonandalsolookforward to common sense and fairness being displayed at all mes in the Family League. Please stay safe and enjoy the compeons and social oungsourwonderfulLeagueoffers.

PresidentMSEFL

Welcome to season 2024 of the Mid South Eastern Football Family League. Last year, my plan was to step back and let others take the helm, allowing myself a peaceful retreat into the sunset. However, as life often unfolds differently than expected, I find myself returning with a renewed (albeit somewhat begrudging) enthusiasm. My presence may not be met with universal approval, but I'm committed to serving our league to the best of my abilities.

As we welcome back our existing players, supporters and extend a very warm family league welcome to those who are new to our league, I hope your time at your clubs are both rewarding and positive.

I want to extend my appreciation and congratulations to all the venues that hosted our 2023 finals: Hatherleigh, Tantanoola, Robe, and Port MacDonnell. Hosting a final requires an immense amount of time and effort, and every aspect was executed superbly. Simply saying thank you doesn't seem sufficient. The weather Gods finally gave us a break with favourable weather conditions on grand final day at Port MacDonnell. With warm sunshine greeting us, it was a truly remarkable day, with a large crowd in attendance. Special commendation goes to the Port MacDonnell Football and Netball Clubs for their meticulous planning and flawless execution of the event.

Congratulations to Glencoe (Junior Colts), Robe (Senior Colts), Kalangadoo (Reserves & A Grade) on your premiership successes. Today though sees a new season begin, with each club and grade aiming for a top four finish to hopefully become the clubs we talk about next year.

Our Senior Board remains unchanged, with Peter Mitchell elected as President, Dennis Muhvovics, Vice President, and Executive Members

Trevor Ling, Joanne Michelmore, and Jo Dean. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to Rochelle

Monaghan, who has joined us as Assistant Secretary. Despite her brief time in the role, it is already evident she will be a valuable addition to our team.

In the Junior arena, prior to the Junior League AGM, no nominations were received for the role of Junior President, raising concerns about its future. However, Kevin Dinnison stepped up to the plate. Kevin, with his extensive involvement with the Nangwarry Football Club and the League, courageously accepted the nomination for Junior League President. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Kevin for taking on this responsibility, confident that he will do his utmost, supported by returning executive members Gary (Tug) Wilson and Dylan Clough, as well as new executive member Tamara Ploenges. Junior playing numbers across the league continues to pose challenges. While some clubs effortlessly attract and retain players, others struggle in this regard. It is imperative that we work together and offer support to those clubs encountering difficulties with player numbers. After all, it's unpredictable – next year, it could your club facing similar challenges.

NeilWebberagaincontinuesintherole of Umpires Director and we welcome Matt Cockrum as his Assistant. Last year we relied on club umpires to fulfill appointments, and unfortunately our panel numbers have not seen significant growth to alter this trend for the current year. In fact, to address the shortage we are reinstating the requirementforclubswiththebyeeach week to provide two senior players to assist with appointments. Facing a scenario where more umpires are leaving than we can recruit, our panel numbers have reached an all-time low. It is imperative that the Board, along with club stakeholders, continue in encouraging recently retired players to consider umpiring as a positive alternative to playing and remain involved with the game Just

remember:noumpires, nogame. For the past decade or more, changes to club and league structures have felt like a constant revolving door. True positive change can only emerge through cooperation, not coercion

Therefore, ifclubsarecontentwiththeir current state, it's best to respect their choice and refrain from intervention. Mandating changes upon clubs will likely lead to resentment and potentially even the disappearance of someclubsalltogether.

To our 'Family League' partners in the Netball Association I take this opportunity to wish President Sara Gray, the Executive and all players and supporters all the best for the upcoming season and look forward to another successful and positive year ahead.

As we embark on a new season, the focus shifts towards the ultimate goal of playing finals footy in September. While it may seem distant, coaches across all levels, from junior colts to A Grade, will undoubtedly emphasise the significance of securing victories in the early matches. Winning early sets the tone for the entire season and grants teams greater control over their destiny, rather than relying on outcomes later in the year.

To all participants in football or netball, I extend my best wishes for the upcoming season. May it be filled with excitement and enjoyment, and may your team find itself actively engaged come finals time.

Remember to treat each other with kindness, travel safe, and I wish you all the best for Season 2024.

Firstly, taking over the reins from Ted, I would like to thank him for his reless efforts as President and I know that he will connue in a very supporve role for us. I have coached at both junior and senior levels and whilst I have thoroughly enjoyed coaching the juniors of late, many of our juniors have only had myself as a coach and I feel it is important to implement change to keep things fresh. I hope I have reinforced an ethos of effort = reward.

than these boys and I give him real credit for geng in a having a go. For Kalangadoo who are short of players this season you must hang in there and connue to develop the few you have. Two years ago, we were in the same boat, running out with 8 players, whilst not much fun at the me the boys have connued their football journey and will play in a very compeve team this year

senior colts

In keeping things fresh we recruited Reece Duncan as Senior head coach, it has been great to see the exisng playing group respond to Reece’s coaching philosophy and training program. We have a blend of youth and experience, returning players and new players, I wish them well for the season ahead. I would like to congratulate Dylan Pfitzner on his 100 A grade games today, Dlyan has been a significant member of our Senior team since debung in 2016. He is a highly valued member of the Glencoe community.

Ben Hentschke is again leading our Reserves team. 2023 was a difficult year for the Reserves, we have worked hard to secure more players and be much more compeve. With the fellas I’ve seen on the track I look forward to an enjoyable season with far less headaches for Ben.

Will Maloney is coaching the Senior Colts team; Will is not much older

junior colts

Mahew Haase has a slightly different look Junior Colts this year. Where we’ve been strong the last two years this year’s colts have just enough numbers and are a very young side. The haul of bigger kids will need to work extremely hard to help the young brigade improve and develop.

We have Bo Manser and Dion Evans taking on coaching roles with our U11’s and Auskick kids. Similar to the Junior Colts, we are not flush of numbers in U11s but we’ll compete as well as we can week in week out. Dion has a heap of young Auskick kids which we look forward to seeing come into the Junior grades in a few years. I would like to thank two senior players Brodie Glynn and Brodie Allison for offering to help these juniors develop especially when they do not have kids of their own.

Goodluck to all M.S.E football and netball teams throughout the year, help each other where we can and keep our league as strong as possible.

football club notes

Welcome everyone to season 2024.

It is with great pleasure that we announce our coaching appointments for this year. Nathan Brown again leads our Senior side with assistance from Mahew Bryant and Jason Pet on the bench. Congratulaons to Henry Lawrie for being nominated as Captain and to the rest of the leadership group. Working alongside the A Grade team the Reserves will again be coached by Anthony Kokiousis with assistance from Roly Day. Good Senior numbers this year have seen a solid pre-season and a few new faces which is great for the club and the community.

Congratulaons again to our 2023 Premiership Senior Colts side and to Sam Huebner as he steps aside as coach, the posion filled by Jason 'Leroy' Fennel. Leroy has a great history with our club and with coaching and we look forward to watching him with his young charges. Bucko McLay will again coach the Junior Colts and we know his first year of returning to basic skills and drills will start paying dividends in 2024.

With the fragility of Community Football front and centre again this year, it is glaringly evident that clubs must focus on building, retaining and upskilling junior numbers as well as working together as a League to support each other. Excellence in junior development relies on great volunteers, if anyone else wishes to get involved please contact myself or Junior President Adrian Johns at any me.

We are very pleased to announce our commiee members for the year:

President – Debra Mackey

Vice President – Jason Pet

Secretary – Breanna Ferguson

Treasurer – Deb Sweetman

Commiee – Jacob Nicholson, Jim Thring, Geoff Prest, Roly Day, Roger Sweetman and Jack Sneath.

Junior Commiee – Adrian Johns (P), Karla Dew (VP), Rhianna Maczkowiack (S), Sco Robertson and Kylie Johns.

We have been using our off season to improve club facilies and we would like to thank all of our commiee members, sponsors and grounds volunteers for their hard work. We have a new BBQ and bar booth which offers a magnificent, elevated view across the oval and protects our members from the harsh SE'ly weather.

Congratulaons also to our netball club for their growth this off season and welcome to their new president – Ash Hunt and her commiee. Kim Ross has stepped down aer ten years in the posion and will be supporng Ash as she seles into the role.

There is a fresh feel around the Robe Football and Netball Club leading up to round one and we look forward to hosng home games and providing a great day of country sport to our community. For informaon, fixture, events, merchandise and much more please visit our website at Robefootballclub.com

Good luck everyone, stay safe, and we'll see you all very soon.

JUNIOR SQUADS STILLTO BE CONFIRMED

Junior numbers and player development has been a major focus of our Club over the last 5 years and this work by a number of dedicated volunteers is really starng to pay dividends with Under 11 and Auskick numbers connuing to grow, and the kids’ skills are connuing to develop. We would like to sincerely welcome all the new families and players to the Magpie family for the 2024 season. If any other players or families are keen to be involved in an inclusive all abilies environment, they are encouraged to contact Boxy on 0400064943

Steve McCann and Graham Dowie are coaching the Under 14s and 17s. Macca had amazing first season at the helm and the club was more than excited when he signed on again! Junior Colts numbers are really strong this season. The senior colts are looking to build on a hard season in 2023. Numbers are really low, but with the addion of some young guns we feel we can push through this season. Graham has worked extremely hard in the off season. We are looking forward to the development of the 17s.

We have lost a few boys to various other clubs and we wish them well in season 2023. We would like to welcome some returning and new faces to Kalangadoo. The Glencoe Netball Club congratulates Chloe Watson who today plays her 200th Club Game. Chloe came to Glencoe in 2011 and played her 15&Under and 17&Under netball with the Club. She graduated into the senior ranks in 2014 and has been a part of the A Reserve/B Grade sides ever since. Chloe is an athlec and versale player who is able to hold down any mid-court posion with ease and can also play in the goal circle when required. Her extra height, denied to most midcourt players, enables her to get her hands to many balls.

Chloe had a stellar season in 2021 not only taking out Club B Grade Best & Fairest but also the League Best & Fairest as well as being part of the premiership side – an amazing feat not accomplished by many. She was also a part of the B Grade premiership side again the following year in 2022.

Congratulaons Chloe and thank you for your dedicaon to the Club.

Also congratulaons to Shae Tweddle playing her 50th club game today and Alarna Briggs playing her 150th club game.
