GLENCOE AND NANGWARRY BATTLE IT OUT FOR COVETED Memorial Trophy

By J.L. “Fred” Smith The Phil Muhovics Memorial Trophy will be contested on Saturday when Glencoe hosts Nangwarry in round 13 of the Mid South East Football League.

First awarded in 2011, the Murphies have never surrendered the coveted trophy.

Phil Muhovics was a noted footy iden ty in this region and he died of bone cancer in 2010 at the age of 53.

He played at five clubs across the region and was a senior coach at four of them and an underage coach at the fi h.

Throughout his me in football, he took great pride in represen ng the various local leagues in inter-associa on matches.

His footy career began in the juniors at Glencoe and he made his A Grade debut with the Murphies.

He then headed to West Gambier where he played 78 games.

Phil then crossed to the other end of Mt Gambier and played for the East Gambier Bulldogs including two losing grand finals.

The 1987-88 seasons saw him at the helm of his home club of Glencoe.

At the end of the 1980s, Phil was appointed as captain-coach of Robe and the Roosters were runners-up in 1989 and 1990.

A er four seasons as a playing coach, Phil returned to the ranks as a player with East Gambier in 1991 and Nangwarry in 1992.

Yet another grand final defeat occurred with the Saints in 1992.

However, sweet victory was not far away for Phil.

Nangwarry elevated Phil to the coaching role in 1993 and this proved to be the start of a golden era for him.

With brothers Greg and Mike in the lineup, Phil took Nangwarry to their first ever premiership.

The Saints also went top in 1994 and 1997 with Phil in a non-playing role.

In the following seasons, Phil had lengthy coaching s nts with Nangwarry and East Gambier but could not gain another grand final success.

A er a break from footy, he reemerged as the goal umpire for the West Gambier Under 12 in 2007 and then coached underage teams.

It was an emo onal day for all present at Nangwarry in August 2011 when the Phil Muhovics Memorial Trophy was awarded for the first me.

The A and B Grade teams of the Saints and the Murphies lined up at 2.15pm and paid their respects to the memory of Phil Muhovics with a minute's silence.

Veteran Saints Trevor “Scooter” Fenn and “Bugsy” Harris played in A Grade while members of Phil's family and the likes of exSaints Loyz and “Larry” Neshoda, David Dunn, Steve Wanganeen and Graham Hill were cheering from the sidelines.

Then-Glencoe coach Adam Price spoke well a er receiving the inaugural Phil Muhovics Memorial Cup. This handsome trophy was donated by the Muhovics clan and was supplied by Ian Seebohm, of In2 Trophies.

Field umpires Dennis Ma hews and Michael Pink chose Nangwarry's Nathan Reeves who received the Phil Muhovics Memorial Medal for his outstanding display of sportsmanship.

It is Glencoe's turn to host the match in 2021.

The MSEFL and the Muhovics family awards the Phil Muhovics Memorial Medal to the A Grade premiership coach each season.

The Port MacDonnell Football Club, in their last game against Kalangadoo, welcomed Zack Williams as another member to the 200-game club.

Zack is a real heart and soul person of the club and has achieved a lot in his 200 games, not only has he been a premiership player in 2012, he has also captained the club. His influence has been more far reaching than just on the field, having coached junior sides over the years, also having numerous years on the commi ee, organising rosters to help run game day. Always at working bees no ma er how late he has got home the night before, social events are where he also shines, normally first one there and last to leave, his ability here is where he binds the group together making bonds closer.

The club would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Zack on his 200th game and with me s ll on his side there is every chance he has another 200 in him.

Brad Long commenced at Kongorong in the Junior Colts in 2009 playing and taking out the premiership that same season.

Represen ng the Mid South East League in both Under 15s and Under 17s, Brad played his first A Grade game for his much loved Hawks in 2013, becoming an A Grade regular the following season.

A gutsy player, usually found out on a wing, with a reliable le foot kick, Brad works hard both forward, and in defence.

A great role model, Brad is an excellent example to all players about hard work and commitment.

The commi ee, players and supporters congratulate Brad on 100 A Grade games for Kongorong.

VIEW FROM THE HILL Firstly, congratula ons to the players that were selected to play in the Murray South East Zone team at the weekend – Andrew Stone, Mitch Lowe (Kalangadoo), Sam Wallis (Mt Burr), Dylan Bromley (Port MacDonnell) and Tom Wachtel (Robe) and to Ben McGregor, Peter Mitchell and Glen Johnson who also put up their hands to assist as Assistant Coach, Team Manager and Trainer respec vely you have done your club and league very proud of your achievements. Even though there were no wins on the first day of compe on MSE only lost by 8pts to eventual champions in Southern and 12pts to runners-up Centrals. Finishing 5th a er day one was not the result the team was expec ng however, came out against Eastern on Sunday taking the win with a comprehensive 80pt victory to finish 5th overall. I'm sure all the lads had a great weekend and got the opportunity to take their football to the next level. Now it's back to club footy with many of them hoping to play deep into September.

Well winter hit with a vengeance with ar c like condi ons at all grounds a couple of weeks back. Let's hope that Mother Nature has got that out of her system and starts to improve the days going forward. Rain, hail and more rain were the order of the day, making playing condi ons extremely difficult.

Kalangadoo travelled to Mt Burr as the top team but faced an underrated and dangerous combina on in Mt Burr who were keen to reward 250 game player Nathan Muhovics with an upset win. The game started with Mt Burr winning most of the contested ball and at ¼ me led by 4pts. The second quarter was a very even affair much to the delight of the large vocal crowd who had braved the inclement weather condi ons with the Doo boys having their noses in front at the long break by 5pts. In the third quarter Kalangadoo turned on their usual strong game plan and outplayed their opponents to add 4-4 to 1-0 to extend their lead out to 25pts with a quarter to play. The last quarter started with a heavy rain storm which made Mt Burr's task all that more difficult. Kalangadoo was inaccurate in front of goal only registering 1-4 to Mt Burr's 3-0 but it was too li le too late for the home side with Kalangadoo running out eventual winners by 17pts. Ben Gregory, Billy Galpin, Josh LaRocca and Michael Krieger all finished with 2 goals apiece for the visitors with be er players Krieger, Andrew Stone, Gregory, Sam Casey, Jus n Bromley and Sam McManus. Mt Burr's twin guns in Jack Gregory and Hamish Smith both kicked 3 goals with be er players being Josh Fiebig, Josh Murphy, Tyler Stanley, Josh Wallis, Bailey Poulish and James Wallis.

Down the road at Tantanoola and one could've been forgiven into thinking that September had come early with the oval in near perfect condi ons given the large amount of rainfall that fell across the region in recent days. The surrounds however told a different story, but you don't play footy in the carpark! This was a winnable game for both Tantanoola and Glencoe and the opportunity of ge ng a rare and much needed W on the board. Glencoe started the match well, winning much of the centre clearances and playing to their strengths of quick ball movement through the centre corridor to lead by 9pts at ¼ me.

Tantanoola were not going to surrender that easily and con nued to apply pressure to the ball carrier, whilst Tant's Jack Dawe was ge ng

his hands on a fair chunk of the Sherrin, finding a forward op on was proving a li le more difficult. At half me Glencoe had stretched their lead to 16pts. The third quarter was all Glencoe with the likes of Dylan Childs, Pa y Mitchell and Tom Edwards running rampant through the middle and their tough defensive backs in Ben Swan, Dylan Pfitzner and young Declan Hurley repelling many Tiger a acks to give the visitors a winnable 37pt buffer heading into the last.

Tantanoola to their credit picked up their game in the last with the likes of Dawe, Hayden Brown and young Cade Kelly doing their best to put some respectability on the scoreboard, but their 3rd quarter lapse was going to prove costly as the visitors took the win by 32pts and retained the Neil VonDuve Trophy. Glencoe's Dylan Childs was appropriately awarded the Neil VonDuve medal with other coconspirators Mitchell, Edwards, Hurley, Pfitzner and Mick McRae the be er players for Glencoe. McRae finished the day with 5 goals, Alex Hentschke finding some form with 3 and Childs and Mitchell contribu ng 2 goals each.

For the home side coach Jak Ryan was again their forward target with 5 goals and Dawe pos ng 2. Dawe was clearly Tant's best on ground with Hayden Brown, Jayden Reilly, Kelly, and Jordan Ha named in the Tigers best.

Robe secured 2nd spot on the ladder with an away win against Hatherleigh by 26pts, not dissimilar to their first-round clash at the seaside. A er an even first quarter Robe took control of the match in the second and although a li le inaccurate in front of goal, boo ng 4-7 they kept Hatherleigh to just one goal which came just before the half me siren. Hatherleigh responded a er half me kicking 5-1 for the half to Robe's inaccurate 3-7 but in all reality Robe never looked like losing the match. Riley Dickenson and Billy Laurie both kicked 3 goals for the visitors with Zac Deane also chipping in for 2. Laurie was once again in sensa onal form picking up BOG honours followed by Jordan Hentschke, Jed Jarre , Egan Regnier, Tom Wachtel and Tom Gould. For Hatherleigh Jed Telfer was their only mul ple goal kicker with 3 with be er players being Cameron Slape, Jack Sullivan, Jase Bateman, Jack Gray, Luke McGregor and Telfer. Interes ng to note that Hatherleigh had close to a dozen first choice players out with unavailability and injury. Might be an interes ng September if Hatherleigh can return to full strength.

Over at Nangwarry, Kongorong came away with the chocolates to the tune of 71pts – the exact same margin as their first-round clash.

Many predicted that the margin would be a fair bit closer given the improvement the home side has shown in recent weeks and with Kongorong no way near full strength due to some long-term injuries. A er a very even first half which saw the Saints in arrears by just 15pts, Kongorong came out a er the long break, stepped up the pace and star ng moving the ball with much more purpose and system to put any fairy tale finish for the Saints out of the equa on. They finished full of running, recording a 10 goal to 1 second half.

Don Pochec-Gordon once again was a live-wire up forward boo ng 4 goals along with renowned back man Paul Ellis also boo ng 4 for the visitors. Brad Long, Daniel Hann and Harry Evans were the other mul ple goal

kickers with 2 each. Best players named for Kongorong went the way of Marty Von Stanke, Ma Cordy, Ellis, Evans and Long. For Nangwarry their only mul ple goal kicker was young gun Joel Virtanen with 2. Once again Nangwarry's big man George McWaters was given BOG honours, followed by Jake McKeon, Tom Vanderhorst, Luke Thomson and Sam Shaw.

To this weeks round of matches and the match of the round looks to be down at the Bay where Port MacDonnell will host Mt Burr. Port MacDonnell will be without first choice ruck in Daron McElroy and the ques on remains if Will MacDonald will return or whether he is once again on the sidelines due to injury a er only playing the first half against Glencoe in round 10. Mt Burr will no doubt trouble Port MacDonnell as they match them for speed around the ground but I expect Port MacDonnell to be fresh and cherry ripe a er a two-week break.

Kongorong hosts Hatherleigh and the home side would love nothing be ng than to get a win over a top four side. Who Hatherleigh have available at the selec on table may just be key to this game as Kongorong will no doubt look to gain any advantage they can.

Kongorong are at as full strength as can be expected, given their injuries are long term and won't be seen again this year. Hatherleigh will be desperate to get back the likes of Ferguson-Lane and Waring who were sidelined due to COVID quaran ne measures and with the likelihood of this being the case Hatherleigh will be too strong even on the Hawks home deck.

Glencoe and Nangwarry will vie for the Phil Muhovics Memorial Trophy at the Murphies home ground, where I expect Glencoe will retain the silverware. In the first round it was a dominant display by Glencoe coming away with a near 30 goal victory, but don't think it will be this big of a margin this week. All reports suggest that Nangwarry are definitely on the improve and if they can retain their current list whilst adding a few more quality players to the mix, we might finally see their winless drought finally broken in the years to come. Glencoe look to be too strong and too quick right across the ground however, they do tend to struggle up forward with their midfielders almost outscoring the forwards.

This will be a good test for the Glencoe forwards to see if they can finally get some structure to their game plan and put the score on the board. I expect Glencoe to win, but it won't be by the 30 goals they won by earlier in the year.

In the last match of the round Kalangadoo will host Tantanoola. Kalangadoo will have no trouble raking up win number 11 for the season as they are a quality side right across the ground and will be too quick and too skilled for their opponents. Tantanoola rely on too few to do too much and they really need their second- er players to step up and play accountable footy. To Tantanoola's credit they have persisted with playing a number of their senior colt players who con nue to improve each week, but just don't have the physical strength to match the top sides. Kalangadoo might even give Andrew Stone and Mitch Lowe the day off due to their Murray South East representa ve du es last week, just to keep them fresh but in any case, it will be Kalangadoo by plenty.

Round 12 saw us head to Mount Burr, in what was one of the coldest, we est days for the season. Winter had officially arrived. The weather made for ght, contested footy all day.

With Kalangadoo winning both senior grades.

Under 11: The kids made their way across to the Burr and ba led the elements in a scratch match between themselves.

Mount Burr don't have an Under 11s team, so we played an internal amongst ourselves.

Frank Mules took full advantage of the familiar opposi on and kicked 5 in the wet. All of the kids played really well and it's great to see them enjoying themselves every week!

Junior Colts: The kids came up against an older, more experienced Mount Burr, but played one of the most well fought games of the season.

Apart from the 1st quarter, where Mount Burr got a quick jump, they then contested really hard across the next 3 quarters.

A great effort for such a young team.

Senior Colts: Our last game was as compe ve as we have been all year. Considering there were 5-6 outs, it was pleasing to see their effort and intensity so high.

Wild weather slowed the game down a lot, which helped us a lot.

Reserves: The Ressies seem to have found their mojo, winning their 3rd straight game. They are now star ng to play a great brand of team footy. Mimicking a similar game plan and style to the A Grade they have finally clicked into gear. With a few more addi ons and sustained hard work, this group can achieve great things this season.

Keep up the hard work and dig in for a big 2nd half of the season!

Seniors: We walked into this game knowing it was going to be

one of our biggest tests to date.

Mount Burr have been knocking on the door of the top 4 all year.

Our guys stood up in the wet and wild condi ons and walked away with the 4 points. We had a few key outs, which opened the door for others who stood tall when we needed them. A er a slow, contested, wet 1st half we came out a er half me and kicked 5 to 1 in the 3rd and controlled the game from there. Well done to Connor Gen lie on playing his 1st A Grade game for the club. We all look forward to many more senior games.

This week against Tant is a significant one for much loved team-mate and clubman Jason Bannister. Banno joins an elite group of players who have played 200 club games for Kalangadoo.

A superb effort by someone who gives only 110% week-in weekout. Banno wears his opponent like a glove from the 1st siren through to the last. A two- me premiership player, mul ple interleague appearances and a great guy. From everyone at the Kalangadoo Football Club, thanks Banno for your outstanding service to football. Good luck.

Everyone con nues to give their best and some of our play is fantas c to watch however

we were too happy to let the opposi on run away with the ball at mes which really hurt us on the scoreboard. Hopefully all the boys had a fantas c me on our footy trip to watch Port vs Melbourne and we can have our full side play this week. Best were Braydn, Ashton, Brayden, Summer, Levi and Will. Senior Colts: Under 17 boys played at home last game and it was good to get that winning feeling back in the group of young boys. We started off well in the first 2 quarters but the Glencoe boys put up a good fight in the third quarter.

The Tant boys then came out in the last and kicked a few to steady the ship and come away with a win.

Thanks to Jaxon and Jude for playing. Best were Cade, Jack C, Will, Jack Marino and Saxon.

B Grade: Hi everyone. Our last home game against Glencoe was a real arm wrestle and nice and physical old fashioned game of football in the wet. Thankfully our guys managed to get on top in the third quarter then controlled the ball well in the last to hold the Murphies off. A er being hammered by injuries the weekend off can't come at a be er me for my lads. Everyone is looking forward to a rest then come out firing in the last remaining games of the season. Go Tigers!

A Grade: The seniors last game hosted the Murphies on our home deck. A er a close loss to Kongorong the boys were keen and hungry to get the win. Glencoe came out firing with a goal in the first 30 seconds and a er that it was goal for goal through the first.

Throughout the game Glencoe kicked a few more than we were conver ng and a er another late push in the game we s ll fell short unfortunately. It's really good to see the side figh ng hard for their pride and want to succeed all the way un l the final siren. Best in no order were Jack Dawe, Jayden Reilly, Cade Kelly, Hayden Brown and Jordan Ha .

Junior Colts: The Minis had been up and about recently a er a couple of strong wins and were looking forward to ge ng out on the park against the Tiger Cubs. In slick condi ons the ball skills of the juniors would be put to the test with it looking like the ball would be on the deck a fair bit. The first quarter was a ghtly contested affair with both sides having their share of the ball, but the Murphies appeared to have more control with their possessions, but only being 50/50 in front of goal while Tant were able to kick more truly. Heading into quarter me the Murphies led 3.3 to 2 straight goals.

The Murphies hit the ground running in the second quarter, controlling the ball throughout the midfield and limi ng the scoring opportuni es for the Tigers, limi ng them to a solitary goal while slo ng 5 straight of their own. Rang's side was spreading the ball around well, having mul ple goal scorers, while con nuing to control the game around the ground and stoppages. The second half was a bit more locked down with the ball on the deck a lot, but both teams kicking accurately despite the condi ons with the Glencoe side adding 4.1 for the half while the Tiges only managed a solitary point. Kaleb Price was a huge presence once again, ge ng his share of disposals while snagging 4 goals to earn himself best on.

Lachlan Brierly con nued his li le purple patch of form taking out second best, while Tighe Hurley thrived in the we er condi ons to play a great game taking out 3rd best. Marcus McGrath put in for four consistent quarters which caught the eye of Rang, while Connor 'McGregor' Tweddle popped up at fourth best a er snagging 3 sossies of his own. Mum was a bit worried a er the game as she thought young Connor must have got lost between the changerooms and dropping his bag off to the car at the netball courts. Turns out he was just stopping every man and his dog to ask them if they'd witnessed his 3 goal heroics during the Junior Colt's game. This takes me. Rounding out the best for the day was young Kade Mulraney, who con nues to impress in his first season with the Colts. Well done lads and lade es, keep it rolling!

Senior Colts: The Senior Colts went into the contest against Tantanoola realising that it would be a very important game in the final shakeup for playing finals footy. The game didn't get off to the start that Boof, or the lads would have been hoping, falling behind early on and not playing the brand of footy that they had been playing over the past couple of weeks. By the end of the first, the lads had only managed three behinds, with the Tant boys kicking accurately to record 4 goals, 1 behind. The second quarter was a repeat of the first, with the Murphies struggling to make any real headway anywhere on the ground and by hal ime were looking at a 41 point deficit. Once again though, the King of half me rev-ups, Boof provided the lads with a few home truths to send them out into the third quarter with plenty to think about. The words had the desired effect with the Murphies playing with a sense of purpose and vigour that was missing throughout the first half. By hi ng contests hard and sending the ball forward with intent, the lads were able to bang on 5 goals to one to get back into the contest, but would have also have been rueing a few misses close up that would have really thrown the cat amongst the pigeons. The Tant lads were good enough to steady the ship in the final quarter however, stemming the flow of Murphy goals while kicking a few of their own to run out 28 point winners. Oscar Hunt was a welcome addi on back to the side, providing a consistent effort over 4 quarters of footy displaying a steady hand and good decision making. Cam Brooks was also one who put in a solid four quarters of effort, as he has all year, while Aiden Hurley displayed good wheels ge ng regular possessions throughout the midfield and down back, providing some important clearances with that raking le boot. Kaleb Price looks right at home in the Senior Colts and provided a great target deep in the forward line, using his body well and taking some good grabs while slo ng 2 goals, adding to his tally from the Junior Colts. Rounding out the best was Mitchell Li le who had his best game for a few weeks, but unfortunately the lads learnt you can't play one half of decent footy and come away with a win. On to this week lads!

Reserves: The Ressies went into the game against Tantanoola knowing that if they wanted to play finals footy, this was a must win game. With a few names back from injury, a few names back from unavailability and a few names s ll out due to work commitments, the side was confident of a good showing. Early on the Tant lads showed more desire

towards the footy, resul ng on a lot of shots at goal, but fortunately for the Murphies the accuracy of the Tigers was a bit erra c, keeping them in the game.

Unfortunately for the Murphies however, early injuries were once again a thorn in Whi a's side, limi ng the opportuni es for interchange and also posi onally on the field. The game was a seesawing affair throughout the 4 quarters, but the Murphies couldn't reel in the deficit, eventually going down by 14 points. Benny Curran once again tried his guts out all day, playing up forward and also on the ball, con nuing his great run of form to get the nod as best on for the Murphies. Easter, as always, led from the front, playing pre y much every posi on on the ground earning second best and a s ff neck for his troubles. Taz McGrath bounced back a er an injury last week ended his day early, providing plenty of grunt while on the ball, but also being important down back late in the game. Ben Weedon con nues to shine in the Seniors taking out fourth best, showing plenty of heart each week, never slowing down even a er playing a whole game of colts. Fi h best went to Jezza who was solid down back all day, playing ght coverage and dishing out spoil a er spoil and limi ng the damage on the scoreboard. Sixth best went to Jack Ryan who provided a spark once coming onto the ground, slo ng a couple of goals and showing that he is willing to put his body on the line for his mates, dishing out a few solid shepherds and tackles. It was great to see Eggy back as well, although he twinged a groin early and was limited, but there was a fear he had done something more serious when a er the game he was complaining about his ring. Turns out it was concern over a lost wedding wing and Phil Reilly bracelet, luckily for him the astute Ressie lads were there to direct his a en on to his other hand and wrist. Crisis over.

Finally we all hope Two Names and Josh Agars are okay and on the mend a er a couple of nasty head injuries ended their days early. All the best lads.

A Grade: The A Grade lads were primed for a big contest heading into a game that they knew was a winnable one, but one that they would also have to be at their best for. Once hi ng the ground it was an even contest but the Murphies skipped out to an early lead courtesy of a couple of goals from the silky skills of Dylan Childs. The Tant team fought back however kicking accurately with their chances to go into quarter me only 9 points behind the visitors.

The second quarter was much of the same with Glencoe having more of the possession, but was ng some shots in front of goal which could have stretched the lead even further, but as it was they managed to put up more points than Tant to head into the main change 16 points up, but s ll with the game within reach of either side. They say the 3rd quarter is the premiership quarter, which proved to be the difference for the Murphies who handled the very wet condi ons be er than their opponents.

With the rain falling for the whole quarter a brilliant goal from the boundary from Mick Mack followed by an off the ground score from Sauce that would have done the Euros proud, the lads were well posi oned heading into the last a er holding the Tigers to a solitary point. The Tant team came home hard in the last, but it wasn't enough to get over the top of the Glencoe side, who were feeling good with Dorpa holding the ball 30 metres out to put through the sealer. Unfortunately the kick dropped 15 metres short, so it was le up to Mick Mack to slot it through and cap off a great game. Dylan Childs was given the nod for BOG a er racking up possessions all over the ground yet again and also slo ng a couple of goals early on to get the boys off to a good start. Pa y Mitchell was once again everywhere and thrived in the wet, showing clean hands and smarts throughout to earn second best. 3rd best went to the ever reliable Tommy Edwards, once again with his elusiveness on show, slipping in and out of packs and ge ng the ball out of dangerous situa ons consistently. The Milkman, Declan Hurley played a very solid game down back, adding himself to the list of legendeary long sleevers to don the Maroon and Gold earning a 4th best nod. Dyl Pfitz displayed poise in the wet to feature at 5th best, channelling his inner 'Jezza' to con nually bring the ball to ground and not allow an easy mark or possession in the defensive 50.

Rounding out the best was Mick Mack, who was a great target up forward all game, regularly finding space and also kicking a couple of cracking goals that would be difficult on a dry day. Finally, well done to Jack Miller in his 50th, ge ng a win, but will also have the memory of charging out of the back pocket all alone... and having an airy! Nice work Milf.

It was a wet and cold day and it was always going to be hard with the lack of shelter. Thanks to those who braved the condi ons to come out and watch a few great games of football. The Junior Colts are really star ng to find their groove so if you have not watched them this season, I suggest ge ng out early to have a look. The Senior Colts are s ll missing their main man Jamie Parsons and we hope to see him back real soon. Under coach Libba the boys came out firing and showed everyone what they are capable of, well done lads. Thanks to those in B Grade who again stepped up to fill aside. Finally, to Luke and his boys, you wanted it, and looked like you could take it, but it just was not meant to be. Keep at it and hopefully you will be rewarded soon.

It is great to see such a close and ght seniors' side who are breathing a fresh new start, but it would be great to see a few of you at the Junior Colts' games and perhaps s cking your hand up to maybe do a job. These boys look up to you and it would make their day.

Finally, can we please remember that as adults we must model to the younger genera on how to speak and treat umpires. The league is really struggling to find enough of them to umpires all games on Saturdays and if we con nue to abuse them then we may cost our own teams a win if they con nue to hand out frees to the opposi on team.

Li le Saints: Bit cold at Nangas on the weekend and plenty of rain, but the boys thrived anyway. Good skills and ball movement considering the wet condi ons. Good to see lots of good bumps and good tackling. Plenty of shepherds being executed as well which is really pleasing to see.

Junior Colts: It was a cold and wet day at Nangwarry as we welcomed the Hawks. With a few players out and a few different players in there was a fair bit of whiteboard shuffling prior to the game. Thanks to Kongorong for the loan of a couple of players to make 18-a-side. The whole game was played at a high pressure, and I thought our boys played a great overall game but as in past weeks we just could not convert our play inside forward 50. The Hawks to their credit made the most of their chances and came away the victors by 32 points.

were Tayte in his best game of the year, Harry, Archer, Noah and Bennet while team awards went to Josh, Jordan E and Riley. A week off upcoming before a big game against Glencoe. Thanks again to all our award sponsors and game day volunteers.

Senior Colts: The Senior Colts boys played new posi ons, swapping it up and it paid off. Coming out against the second top team in the league the 1st quarter we started off strong, with our defensive pressure high. The boys came out in the second hard at the ball and coming away winning the quarter. At half me the boys were fired up and came out harder. Boys like Bailey Linder and Ty Dinnison led the team. A er half me, playing hard for the last half, unfortunately we went down by 2 points but I'm proud of the boys playing their heart out.

Best players were Bailey Linder, Ty Dinnison, Jack Stocker, Jacob Schmi , Mitch Adam and Jye Whitehouse.

B Grade: With the weather forecast Friday night looking like it was going to bucket down Saturday, we were always going to have blokes drop out.

Unfortunately, we had 6 drop out so luckily a few of the older blokes and some colts helped us have 2 on the bench. Kongorong are a top 4 team for a reason and were in control for most of the game. We had a good patch in the last 10 mins of quarter 1, but fitness was just not there. Best player was Josh “Herbie” Mills down at full back who stuck to his task all day. Josh Clayfield and Nathan King in the midfield tried hard. Hicksy played well down back and good to see Stocker and Neshoda play a really solid second half.

A Grade: Against Kongorong our boys for the first me in a long me were right in the game at half me and 3 quarter me but unfortunately, I think being in that unfamiliar posi on cost us. The nerves took over a li le bit but at the end of the day to be in that posi on in the first place is a win for us. It was another week where we improved a lot. The more we get ourselves in these posi ons the more familiar we will be and the closer we will get to a win. This bye has come around at a good me as we had a few sore boys a er the game. Thanks for the supporters who follow us week-in, week-out. I have no doubt that a win will happen sooner rather than later!

Good to see a good con ngent of players and supporters head over to Nangwarry 'clubrooms' a er the game for a drink or two, and great to see they have some progress on their new facili es, look forward to enjoying them next season. Thanks to Bill and the crew at Blue Lake Bar & Bistro for hos ng our award presenta ons post-match, another good turnout, to support those that support us. Match reports as follows: Minis: Thanks to Nangwarry for a really fun game. Well done to our kids that played for the other team, who were matched up with our be er players which made the game full of really strong contests like Noah Von Stanke-Dowie vs Mason Galpin, or Charlie Lasle vs Hunter Bingham, all 4 were in the best players. Koby Galloway starred again, but best player was Coby "Bull-Ant" Brant who is always hard at it and seemed to love the condi ons. Well done to all players, con nuing to improve each week.

Junior Colts: In what was a very cold and wet day travelling up the road to a very improved young Nangwarry side, we were going to have to be on our game for the 4 quarters.

A er a solid week on the training track, we were looking to see some good quality footy.

The first quarter was a tough dour affair with neither team managing to get a run on and for some inaccurate kicking from the young Saints saw us with a small margin at quarter me. From there we managed to build on our lead in each quarter and worked our way into the game with a strong second half to record a good win for the condi ons. Once again thank you to the boys who went over and played half a game for Nangwarry and con nue to play our brand of footy. Between Tony, Andrew, Dan and myself we had a tough job picking the best players and again several very unlucky not to receive an award but best on ground and spent the full 4 quarters controlling the middle and pushing into defence to help out, Jobe Janeway received the Swallow Drive Meats Award. Second best and Rocks Shop Award went to Harrison Elletson who played a ripper across half back flank and was in everything during the 1st quarter played one of his best games for the year. Jimmy Kyle had one of the toughest jobs for the year in manning up on Archer and while took a li le while to find his rhythm ended up finding plenty of the ball and frustra ng their best player to have no real influence in the second half taking away the Rocks Tavern Award. Jacko Bald is star ng to build confidence and ge ng in and under and was one of the lads who played across for half a game whilst s ll giving his all received the Mick Mullan Encouragement Award. Was great to see Tyler Richardson back playing some good team footy again with a couple of goals and se ng up a few others while having a run up the ground, received the Coach's Award. The Angelino Family Award could have gone to nearly anyone on the team, but to our other back flanker who with his offsiders have hardly been beaten all year and isn't afraid to take on the big blokes each week, Nate Von Stanke-Dowie took the award home. Will be needing a 4-quarter, disciplined performance next up, as we look forward to the challenge of taking on last year's premiers Hatherleigh back on our home ground. Should be a quality game of footy. Go Hawks!

Senior Colts: Not the result we were striving

If we are to be a serious contender for finals we need to apply ourselves at training, be respec ul of the umpires and their decisions, and play a lot more disciplined form of the game out on the field. Well done to the Junior Colts that stepped up and helped in filling the Nangwarry side, and as such both Jimmy Kyle and Toby McKinnon were named first and second best. Cohen Janeway followed closely in third, and consistent Harry Langlands in fourth. The ever-reliable Riley and Joel Maconachie rounded out the best players. A tough game today, which will need a whole team effort to bring home the four points.

B Grade: We went to Nangas in freezing condi ons, luckily the rain held off most of the day. We came out firing in the first quarter, but once again inaccurate kicking by us didn't help. We worked hard, and kept extending our lead to win by 113 points. Best for the day was 'Tonner' Wil McKenry in the ruck. Second Fraser Brewster was at every contest up forward. Ma y Maidment off the half back worked relessly all day to get named third best. Fourth was Braidon Frost, Andrew 'Noddy' Telford kept up his form in fi h and Mark 'Rowdy' Hunter con nues to enjoy his return from re rement ge ng sixth best.

A Grade: A ghter tussle than we would of liked for the first half, with Nangwarry pulling out all stops. Once we se led into our structures, and played more of our game style, the game changed and the scoreboard started to ck over. Four goals each to Paul Ellis and Donald Pochec-Gordon se ng us in good stead. Taking out the Collins Court Butcher Award was Marty Von Stanke, pu ng in a solid effort, moving well and playing the perfect game. Ma Cordy con nued with his countless possessions per game and took out the Commercial Hotel Award. Paul Ellis, for his work up forward, took out the Killara Food Centre Award, closely followed by the ever consistent Harry Evans (Killara Food Centre Award) who also made the squad for the Zone team, narrowly missing out on a spot in the final team. Brad Long is playing some good footy and was rewarded the Club Tea Award.

Congratula ons to Brad Long also on playing 100 A Grade games for the club against Nangwarry. Brad is a great club person, heads up the Social Commi ee and is always willing to lend a helping hand, whether it be with the junior sides or the women's footy team, assis ng at the working bees or pu ng in 110% on the training track. Brad epitomises loyalty and commitment. Congratula ons Brad.

Junior Colts: The kids started the game well, kicking two goals in the opening quarter.

However Robe responded leaving us with a 1 point deficit at the half me break. Robe then kicked on to run out victors. The kids all played well. Tom Bowering had plenty of the ball to be best on. Jordy Atkinson was in the middle all day giving plenty of drive.

Fletcher Leopold had a great game and kicking a goal. Riley Prouse also snagged a goal and found plenty of the ball. Beau Higgins also had a great game, using the ball well.

Senior Colts: It was going to be a tough day coming up against the ladder leaders. The boys ba led well all day, but couldn't hit the scoreboard.

Robe ran out easy victors in the end. Riley Shanks was best on, ge ng plenty of the ball.

Paddy Chay had a captain's game, genera ng plenty for his teammates. Jack Cassidy had a great game to be third best.

Joel Smith was in and under all day. Je Faulkner used his skills and pace all day and Ethan Leopold ba led all day in the ruck.

Reserves: Last week we played Robe in a top of the table clash. A er a wet couple of days the oval was looking a bit worse for wear and we knew it was going to be a 4 quarter slog. We started the game well and were able to take a lead into quarter me. In the second quarter Robe dominated us around the ground and luckily thanks to some great efforts from our backline we only went into half me down a goal. We were 2nd qtr

able to wrestle back a bit of momentum in the third quarter and went into 3/4 me with the scores level. In the last quarter our midfield li ed and we got some quick forward entries which we were able to capitalise on and take the win by 15 points. A very pleasing team effort which helps our goal of trying to secure a double chance at the end of the season. Best players if you haven't heard already were again headed by Reidy, followed by Jimmy, Rural, L. Lang, B. Lang and Gilbo.

A Grade: We took on Robe on our home turf last weekend on a wet and wild day. Our boys brought some real good intensity and pressure resul ng in some good ball movement but unfortunately couldn't capitalise and turn that into scoreboard pressure we went into quarter me 1 goal down. In the second quarter we let our pressure drop and Robe made us pay kicking away to a 5 goal lead at half me. The second half was a stalemate as we brought the pressure back and won plenty of the football but again couldn't get some scoreboard pressure as Robe ended up winning by 26 points. Slapey ba led well all day in the ruck coming up against one of the comp’s best and holding his own, Jase Bateman and Jack Sully found plenty of the football and set up a lot of forward entries while Jack Gray and Luke MacGregor did a good job holding their opponents. This week we head down to Kongorong to take them on in yet another tough game.

Junior Colts: Last game we travelled down to Kalangadoo. This was our chance to get ourselves off the bo om of the ladder. From the first bounce the boys were switched on.

The centre ball up work was pleasing to watch as we have been working hard on that area of our game. The way the kids shared the ball around and hit targets was great to see. It was great to see the improvement from all of the kids. It has been a tough season for the boys so far so it was great to see them get some reward for the hard work that they have been pu ng in on the track.

Best players were Kai Gilmore who showed great skill and class all day finishing the day with 5 goals. Jacob Spehr gave the boys first use out of the middle and was strong in contested situa ons. Harry Carroll showed a touch of class with his evasion and ball use. Wil Lewis was great up forward, set the tone early in the game with his strong leads and his selfless acts by passing off to his teammates which brought others into the game. Zane Lewis just keeps on running and finding the footy and is having a super season. Je Lewis was great at the centre ball ups and around the ground. Let’s see if we can keep on improving and put in a solid four quarter performance against Mt Burr this week.

B Grade: As we enter in the second round of the season it is important for all teams to keep the momentum up or build momentum. This week's game against Kalangadoo was a classic example of this. In the first round we were very lucky to have a good win. In the past 10 weeks or so Kalangadoo have regrouped and are making a charge and are just si ng outside the finals while our form has been patchy. The game was a ght affair with not much free flowing footy and this was shown on the scoreboard with only the 5 goals being kicked in the first half.

Kalangadoo held on to a very slender 1 point lead at the half. In the second half the scoring only slightly improved with 7 goals being kicked however Kalangadoo was able to extend their lead to take out a wellearned victory to bring them a li le closer to the finals. Best for the week was Ben Milstead who has been pu ng together a very nice season, second the veteran Ben O'Dine who just makes the side be er when he

plays, third best was Lennox Lewis a er a delayed start to the season is star ng to put a good body of work together, fourth best was Ryan Von Stanke with another solid performance, fi h best was Fraser Lynch in another good performance in his comeback. A er 2 weeks off for the bye and zone carnival, we take on Mt Burr at home, to say we need to get back on the winners list is an understatement.

A Grade: When a pre-season starts you can only hope that you get to the second half of the season and you are playing in the top of the table clash. This was the A Grade’s opportunity against the league leaders Kalangadoo. Kalangadoo have been the benchmark for the last few years, and they are looking good again this season. The game was also special for a couple of reasons - Zack Williams playing his 200th game for the club as well as Jacob Langdon playing game 50 for the Bay. The game started in the way you hoped it would, being a top of the table clash, the ball moving around freely around the ground and at the half me break we held a very slender lead to the tune of 8 points. We started off the second half as we finished the first with some posi ve football, as the third quarter came to an end Kalangadoo started to take the ascendency away from us and started to play the game on their terms. In the last term Kalangadoo took hold of the game and kicked away to take out a very nice 27 point win. Best for the day was Ned Wilkie who was fantas c in his comeback game a er an injury lay off, second was Mark Smith in another fantas c performance in what is turning out to be a great season, third best was the 200 gamer Zack Williams who rarely plays a bad game and his milestone game was no excep on, fourth best was Jake Turner another player that is having a great season, fi h best was another regular in the best Dylan Bromley, sixth best was Ma Stark who had a great game. Well winter certainly arrived last home game against Kalangadoo with cold wet condi ons greeted players and spectators but everyone got on with playing or suppor ng their team. In the football the Burr won the two junior games and Kalangadoo won the senior games. Thanks to all the volunteers on home games who are there from very early in the morning to late evening and throughout the day helping out and also volunteers who come out on a Sunday to clean up the facili es. It is much appreciated.

Hopefully we can rescheduled our music jam session next home game - stay tuned. A er today’s game stop in Mad Penguin for a feed or drink to support one of our sponsors.

Congratula ons to Sam Wallis who played in the SA Country Championship represen ng Murray South East zone.

Junior Colts: Last game we were back at home facing Kalangadoo.

The boys were up and about early and even with the cold weather hanging around were excited to go out and have a kick. The game was played in good spirits and the ball was shared around well. We tried to get everyone a goal but unfortunately didn’t go to plan.

Everyone played a few different posi ons and to their credit stepped up and played that posi on well. Best for us was young Jordan Birchall who had plenty of the ball, Jayden Garner who just doesn’t quit with his tackling pressure, Rylan McKay who shared the ball around and brought his teammates into the game, Dallas Montouri who chases all day long and Lukas Montouri who was a tall op on for us up forward and scored his first ever goal in football. Well done to the boys and we keep improving and I’m looking forward to seeing where the second half of the season takes us. Cheers Tom.

Senior Colts: Last game we took on an undermanned Kalangadoo and had a comfortable win in what was a great team game. Five boys went over each quarter and played for the Doo and did a great job. Best players were Geordie Whennen, Lachlan Alcock who is also leading the goal kicking for the league, Je Bowering, Kallan Bevan and Muhammad Abduvhobov.

B Grade: The B Grade have been very compe ve the last few games and last round was no different with their a ack on the ball and movement of the ball at mes was good but in some other areas of the game we need to do be er and work a bit harder.

Be er players were Jacob in the ruck working both ends of the ground, Tay Redden who just kept running all day collec ng possessions, Kody B who kept presen ng all game. The players who are showing improvement are the ones training regularly.

Let’s get out on the track.

A Grade: Round 12 saw Kalangadoo travel to Mt Burr and what a game it was. I was very pleased with our effort against the top side and for 3 quarters we were right there with them. If it hadn’t of been for our sluggish 3rd quarter who knows what the result may have been.

Unfortunately though it was another loss for us as every win becomes more and more important in the run home.

Congratula ons once again to Ninja Muhovics who played his 250th for the club. Pleasure to play alongside you and have you leading the way for our next genera on of A Grade players.

Best for the day were Fiebs, Murph, Knife, Josh Wal, Bailey and Jimmy Wal. A er the bye we have Pt Mac down at the Bay in what will be another great challenge for us. Looking forward to it!

Simone Westerman has been part of the Mt Burr Netball Club from a young age and has had many on court successes.

She had me away from the court to have her children Archie and Grace with husband Shane. In 2002 she was a regular member of the A Grade side as a 15 year old. She has had con nued success as a senior player with many of her games being played in the A Grade side.

Simone has won numerous individual awards star ng in 2000 with R/U Best and Fairest in 13 & Under. She then went on to win Best and Fairest in 15 & Under 2001/02 and in 17 & Under as a bo om age player. In 2003 and 2004 she won 17 & Under R/U Best and Fairest. In 2005 she won A Reserve R/U Best and Fairest and A Grade in 2008. In 2014 she won the B Grade Best and Fairest.

Simone is our current A Reserve coach and contributes to the club as an umpire and as part of the social commi ee.

Congratula ons on playing 150 games for the Mt Burr Netball Club. We look forward to you con nuing to be part of the club for many years to come as Archie and Grace play in future years.

Heidi Clark is a dedicated player and club member of the Mt Burr Netball Club, devo ng her me to the club as a volunteer at a young age.

Clark began volunteering as a junior, team managing the 13 & Under side, then progressing to assistant coach. She has played netball for Mt Burr from the age of 8, having me away from the club when a ending university in Adelaide.

She occasionally returned to “fill in” and share the knowledge she gained in Adelaide with both junior and senior players.

Heidi has played the majority of her senior games in the A Grade side as a talented defender. She has been a successful member of the 13 & Under and 15 & Under premiership sides.

Individual accolades include 13 & Under B&F in 2008, 15 & Under in 2009 and 2010 and 17 & Under in 2012. In 2013 she won runner-up B&F in A Grade followed by the Best and Fairest in 2014.

Since returning from Adelaide, she has taken on many roles including 17 & Under coach, assistant A Grade coach, commi ee member, scribe and social club member for the 2021 season.

Heidi volunteers her me to the club by offering to help complete tasks (to perfec on) that are required to help the club run successfully.

ROUND 13 A GRADE NETBALL PREVIEW KONGORONG v HATHERLEIGH Kongorong are at home a er the week off and take on the Eagles. Kongorong played Nangwarry in their last ou ng and while being compe ve, they went down by 18 goals. Hatherleigh played Robe before the bye and had a 10 goal win.

Hatherleigh welcomed back Keston Green into the team and would be looking for her to play a pivotal role as we head towards the business end of the season.

Sarah Broadhead suffered an ankle injury in the Eagles match against Robe - me will tell whether the week off has been long enough for her to overcome her injury.

Kongorong haven't had a lot of joy this year, they are a young side and haven't been able to get into any real rhythm.

Riley Buckingham has been consistent for the Hawks and has con nued her good form that earned her a posi on in the Senior Country Champs team this year.

Her sister Tilah has come in to take over the coaching reins for the remainder of the season, she adds some strength to their goal circle with her height and accurate shoo ng.

Kongorong will be hoping Tilah can bring in some fresh ideas and guide them towards a win in the last few rounds of season 2021. Unfortunately it won't be this week, Hatherleigh will have other ideas and will take the points.

PORT MACDONNELL v MOUNT BURR Port MacDonnell will be well rested a er having 2 weeks off and take on the Mozzies at home. Port Mac's last ou ng before their double bye was a big loss to the Magpies, while Mount Burr went down to Kalangadoo by 20 goals in their last match and would have been disappointed with that result. Mount Burr will be looking to bounce back and put in a good performance against the Demons and will be hoping to climb their way back into the top 4.

Port Mac's Brooke Williams has been consistent for the Bay in the goal circle and has been well supported by Michelle

Moore and Jess Trench with pinpoint feeding into the ring. Port Mac's a ack line will have their work cut out for them this week with Madi Hagge and Heidi Clark in brilliant form and fast becoming one of the most formidable defence teams in the league.

Down the other end of the court, Morgan Amy and Lisa McGregor will give 110% in defence for the Bay but they will struggle to contain the Mozzies Ebony Clark and Sarah Nulty who will be looking to put in a solid shoo ng performance a er their loss to the Magpies.

Mount Burr have tried a few different mid court combina ons this year, including giving some juniors valuable senior experience which has proved successful and given them some flexibility and depth. Mount Burr should have a convincing win.

KALANGADOO v TANTANOOLA Kalangadoo are at home this week and take on the Tigers. The Magpies are coming off a big win against Mount Burr in their last ou ng while Tantanoola had an impressive 9 goal win against Glencoe.

When these teams met in the first round, it was Kalangadoo in a high scoring game ge ng the 16 goal win.

Tantanoola have really found some form in the last few months and are currently si ng in 3rd spot on the ladder. Their a ack line is impressive, with Emma Gould and Jami Walker capable of big games in the goal circle, well supported by Casey Walker and Vic Lucas in the midcourt.

Kalangadoo's defence will be out to make things as difficult as possible, Mikaila Pi and Chelsea Croser combining beau fully and not giving an inch to their opponents.

Down in Kalangadoo's a ack line, Melissa Russell is just so dangerous and has been shoo ng with precision. She will have the upperhand on junior Tayla Rowe, simply with experience.

Russell is supported in the goal circle by Abbey Duncan who has had an excellent season to date. Duncan will line up against

The midcourt ba le will be an enthralling encounter, both teams boas ng speed, experience and a never say die a tude among their players. I would expect Kalangadoo to come out on top, but will expect the result to be closer than their first round match.

GLENCOE v NANGWARRY Glencoe are at home this week and take on Nangwarry. Glencoe went down to Tantanoola by 9 goals in their last match while Nangwarry had their second win for the season, defea ng Kongorong by 18 goals. Glencoe would have been disappointed with their loss to Tantanoola and will be looking to bounce back and have a strong win against the Saints.

Glencoe is si ng in 4th spot on the ladder with Mount Burr breathing down their neck in 5th spot. The Murphies will be looking for a solid win on Saturday to try to hold their spot in the 4.

Glencoe goalies Caitlin Hentschke and Laura Edwards are working well together with Hentschke doing the majority of the shoo ng and Edwards playing more a feeding role. They could line up against Hayley Burner who has been playing some defence confidently for the Saints, along with youngster Hayley Vanderhorst who gives her all and makes the most of being in the A Grade team.

The Saints have Cassie Dinnison and Ange Pra in their goal circle, the pair have con nued to combine well and are capable of shoo ng accurately on their day. Standing in their way will be Emily Thompson and Sarah Edwards, both have been in good form in defence for the Murphies and are both capable of ge ng their hands to a lot of balls and turning over the play.

There will be some good match ups in this game but Glencoe should have too much strength and experience and take the points from a gallant Nangwarry.

NETball club notes Junior 2: What a freezing cold wet day for netball. I'm proud of the girls for their first day in winter condi ons! Ella stepped up and did a wonderful job in centre and GD received SAL award and Milla shot well in GS received Fasta Pasta award. We just need to work on coming in front. The only problem from everyone was we went back to crowding in mid court and didn't have the confidence in moving the ball quickly! Good to see most are trying not to step. Coaches award went to Sophie for her shoulder pass which is ge ng used more.

Well done - we need more please.

Junior 1: Well done li le Magpies for giving your best – in really cold and wet condi ons! We had some brilliant passages of play with Ava and Emmity combing well in the goal circle and Ashley and Lexie finding space in a ack and feeding them accurately. Molly, Jorja, Karni and Ma lda made their opposi on work hard causing many intercepts. Let's work hard to drive towards the ball and get in front of our opposi on. Thank you to Jorja and Karni for filling in.

Best players: Jorja (SAL Real Estate) and Ava (Fasta Pasta).

13 & Under: Another slow start (were we switched on during warm up?) but then stepped things up to play some very good passages of play. Ma lda (Paradise Pizzas) con nued her very consistent form, playing her posi ons just as they should be played. Lucy received Maccas award while Alice took many intercepts down court.

15 & Under: Although under pressure with injury and sickness absentees, there were many wasted opportuni es during this game. Georgia (Paradise Pizza) and Ebony (Maccas) were our two shining lights. Maya (Copenhagen) and Abby also stepped up.

17 & Under: It was a good win against a solid team. Everyone contributed in what was a great team game. We s ll need to work on minimising our turnovers as they can be game changers in finals. B Reserve: We are thrilled that Lisa (who has only been on the sidelines because we had too many numbers at the start of the season and so she put club before herself - as did a couple of others!) has stepped up to fill the void le

NETball club notes gave the team a real boost a er a couple of “down games”. Awards to Brianna (Margaret St Meats) and Gemma (Birdie Blue). Best in an even bunch were Deb and goalie combina on Rhi and Jodi.

B Grade: We had a reasonably solid start against Mt Burr.

Everyone worked well with some altera ons to our team setup due to having a couple out. Mt Burr came out firing in the second half but we responded well and by the final quarter had really got it all together. Both our Jess' are feeding the ball really well and the transi on from defence to a ack is smooth. A tough match ahead to really test where we are at and assess some of our strengths and weaknesses a er the break.

A Reserve: Another week and another change to the star ng line up with Anthea now sidelined for a few weeks (wishing her a speedy recovery) it took us a quarter to se le into the game. Jamie stepped it up in the second pu ng lots of pressure over the ball and slowing down the speed of feeding into the opposi on’s ring, while the other Jaimee was her usual composed self and fed well when in WA and moved well in the circle when given the GS bib combining well with Maddy who was dangerously accurate. Down the other end of the court Schultz as usual took control of the defensive circle and was well supported by Shan. A big thanks to Relle for agreeing to help coach whenever I am absent, and as usual Josie, Leanne and now Re who form an important part of the team. A Grade: Great team effort girls, with all eight players contribu ng evenly and working hard for four quarters. A ack line combined well to find space and had some smart transi ons. Junior 1: It was great to see you all showing persistence and resilience throughout the en re game, the wintry condi ons proved challenging to control the ball and our passing. There were some great turnovers and good leads, well done girls on a fantas c team effort. Good job girls, encouragement awards were received by Isabella Weir and Renae Damhuis.

13 & Under: Great game girls against Glencoe, but bad luck on the final score! It was very wet and cold, however you never gave up.

We had a slow start and had trouble moving the ball down the court to score at first. However, in the second half, we came out stronger which allowed us to move the ball easily down the court finding space. We all need to focus on finding space and being aware of where we all are on the court.

Defence was awesome as we got loads of intercepts, pu ng pressure on Glencoe. We worked together in the circle, moving the ball around to find space and get goals. Isobel O'Brien was awarded the Hungry Jacks voucher for her great a acking. Molly Cushion was awarded the McDonald's voucher for her determina on in defence and centre.

15 & Under: Yet another cold and wet day for netball and another close game but unfortunately we couldn't get the win. We moved the ball well through midcourt, our defence pressure all over created many turnovers and we chased up those loose balls and backed each other up which was great to see.

Third quarter let us down but it was great to see us fight back in the last quarter to outscore Glencoe 11 goals to 3. If only we had a li le more me. KFC Award went to Kailah for stepping up to her posi on and pu ng into the game things we prac ce at trainings. TFC Canteen award went to Demi for adjus ng to posi onal changes and driving the ball out of defence well.

17 & Under: We gave the girls free choice with posi ons which worked well for the first quarter however we s ll can't seem to keep it together for the whole 4 quarters. Tayla you used your giraffe body like a champion in that goal circle working with Ella who gave it her all. Madi I'm glad you

figured out the hard way that GD isn't easy however you redeemed yourself in the last three quarters figh ng for everything you got your hands on. Jade is progressively improving each week with her confidence on the court.

Ella Clarke received the Kmart award and Tayla Rowe received the Shanks Engineering award. Good work girls. Let’s come out firing and get a win on the board!

B Reserve: Bad luck girls, we came up against a very strong Glencoe side who made us work hard all game. You all worked hard ba ling the wet condi ons, it was an improvement on last me we played them but definitely s ll more to work on. Best players went to Tarrah Taylor who was a commanding presence the whole way up the court and Darcy Egan who fought hard in defence all game picking up lots of intercepts and never giving up. Thanks to Jade white for being our extra.

B Grade: What a turnaround from our first round to only go down by 1 goal! Not the best weather to play in but we adapted far be er than our previous encounter in wintry condi ons. With Glencoe taking a few turnovers early we changed our style of play to shorter passes and coming in front and it looked great. Both teams played a great team game and with it being 2nd vs 3rd it's exci ng to see such a close compe on with finals drawing near. Best players Kris e and Nic. A Reserve: Another great redemp on last game. We knew it was a must win game and we were able to work together and get the job done again! Like I've said to you all, I'm so proud of how far you have all come and it's really star ng to show and the wins are coming! Another week of tough weather condi ons but we were able to adapt and implement a short game to maintain possession and control our game! Lauren and Stell, your movement and u lising space has come so far it's really enjoyable to watch so well done!

NETball club notes Last round we headed to Tant in very wintery condi ons.

Junior 2: Great game girls, everyone was applying everything we had learnt at training and more. All the spreading out and front cuts really helped the ball flow down the court well. Metalworx Award went to Hallie for some amazing shoo ng and constant leads to the ball.

Second best went to Abbie for always reoffering and posi ve talk on the court.

You girls should all be very proud of yourselves.

Junior 1: A very cold and wet day but you girls adjusted and played as best as you could in the wet condi ons. Great defence all the way down the court and you chased all the loose balls with amazing effort. Awesome effort to everyone shoo ng too, great rebounds, passes and shots. Also great teamsmanship to the girls for helping each other off the court when there was slips and falls. Eddie Kuhl Tyres Award went to Layla Hawke for great leads and touches and encouragement went to Isabella Brierley for never giving up.

13 & Under: What a crazy weather day for the girls however a great game played by all 8 players. All girls really worked on remaining focused, balancing and coming to the ball for all 4 quarters.

Defenders rewarded themselves with turnovers and making sure they hit targets and first op on to get the ball down to the a ackers. A ackers worked hard with great ming of leads and making sure they weren't hesita ng when passing as well as ght defensive pressure to turn the ball over. Goalies fed the ball nicely to one another and shot really well, was extremely proud of their confidence. Dycer Construc on Award was Emma Porter who played a great game with focusing on the tasks I had set for her and making sure staying in front of player in defence, two hands on rebounds and coming to the ball as Emma has a habit of asking for the ball away from the player but she worked really hard on focusing on that and I am very happy with her game for all 4 quarters. Mckayla Maney was rewarded the Encouragement award with a fantas c effort in 3 different posi ons for the game and her determina on to get the ball in a ack and defence was great, she was able to steady and be pa ent with also great shoo ng and feeding. Super proud again of all girls and a great win. Thank you to Kloe Phillips who also is happy to be si ng bench for the girls when needed.

15 & Under: Great game girls, adjus ng quickly to the cold wet condi ons and playing smart netball, passes in front, moving to the ball and talking to each other. Defence worked hard with Cedar Sco constant pressure down the court with many hands to balls and converted with goals. Some minor changes in third quarter the girls held Tant at scoring 4 goals to their 14. Shooters working the ball around the ring with Jasmine Mutch and Jena Jagger/Zoe Johnston great posi oning behind the shooters offering support for a closer shot. NETball club notes 17 & Under: 48-31. Great win girls!

Really good game by everyone. Well done to Raine for a good first half in goals! Also a great second half by Lilly, she came on and dominated with an intercept straight up - all that defending prac ce paid off! Zoe played a wonderful game through the centre, with lots of intercepts and some great feeding to earn herself the DeGaris Lawyers Award and Jorja was excellent in goals with some great movement and driving to earn the South Aussie Award.

We managed to li our intensity and worked hard on staying in front which was very pleasing to see. Let's get another win this week!

B Reserve: 56-22. Very wet condi ons but we adjusted well with great driving all over court and lots of pressure everyone stepped up and kept pushing especially in the last quarter and with Bri stepping up to shoot in the last quarter, she really showed how versa le she is.

Taylor put in a massive effort in defence with great pressure. Loz came to play with awesome shoo ng and moving earning her the Key to Sale Award.

Alarna applied pressure all day earning herself second best. Great effort girls very encouraging to see the con nual push for the full game.

B Grade: 49-48. A good turnaround to walk away with the win. Another slow start for us saw us 3 down at half me.

Zoe had a great half in the a ack. We changed up the defence at half me which saw us have our best quarter and take the lead into the final. Luckily me was on our side and we could hold onto the win securing our second spot on the ladder. Abbie had a fantas c game in goals and rebounded well. Best players: Bianca Easterbrook (Planta on Treated Timber Award) and Sally McDonnell.

A Reserve: 35-42. Tough game in tough condi ons and once again an undermanned team. But everyone on court gave it there all for the full 60 minutes which was great to see. We had some great patches of play where we were pa ent with each other, waited for the right op on and came forward for the ball. We need to ensure we are doing this more consistently if we want the results we deserve. Jorja played a great half in WD with a heap of touches and drove well out of defence. It was also exci ng to have Mal back on court a er injury. We need to regroup, all put in a bit of extra effort at trainings and have confidence in each other and ourselves and things will start to go the way they should. Best players: Max Watson (B&P Travel and Cruise Award) and Jessie Gosden.

A Grade: Unlucky girls. This was an important game for us to take out and unfortunately things just didn't go our way. Our full court defensive pressure was great at mes and really slowed down Tant’s drive down court, which allowed Bec, Donna and Sarah to read the ball and gain some mely intercep ons. We definitely had lots of the ball but some unforced errors creeped into our game in the wet condi ons and we were unable to claw back Tant’s lead. Caitlin and Laura con nue to improve as a great a acking duo and were well supported by Donna and Ash. Best players: Ash Edwards (O'Brien Electrical Mt Gambier Award) and Sarah Edwards.

Kiara had an excellent game displaying pinpoint accuracy passes and ge ng many intercep ons. Gemma gave her all in everyone posi on and proved to be very versa le. Skye fought hard and never gave up earning herself many intercep ons.

Ella proved again good enough to play with the 13s and rarely makes a mistake. Analeigh only played a half to give others ago but very valuable to our team and is always available to pass to when on the court. Holly tried a new posi on and got several touches due to her ght defence to earn herself the Athlete’s Foot award. CJ played a great game driving hard in a ack and ge ng many touches in defence to earn himself the Donut King award. Hope you all enjoyed the break and ready to go against Glencoe.

15 & Under: We were so close to ge ng our second win for the season girls! I'm so proud of you and how hard you fought to get that win.

We had a lot of great plays and girls you did everything that I asked you to do on the court. Congratula ons to Lilly McKinnon, your feeding and defensive pressure the whole game was amazing and congratula ons to our captain for the game Kaitlin Roise er, you did everything I asked of you on the court, your goals, your feeding, everything, I couldn't have asked for much more! Believe in yourself girls, we are going places.

17 & Under: Last round the girls played some good netball pu ng up an amazing third quarter but sadly it was our lack of talk on the court that let us down. We had good defensive pressure throughout the court which was good to see. Our defenders worked well with each other and took many intercep ons. We had some really good passages down the

court and our goalies worked well moving the ball in and around the circle leading to many scoring opportunities. It was good to see the girls take on what I said at half me and come out with a bit of fight.

Keep listening and coming to training and your game will improve a lot more. Thanks again to the girls that sat bench for us and the scorer and mer. Best players: Hungry Jacks - Alana Virgin, Donut King - Molly Jones.

B Reserve: We went out as hard as possible but unfortunately they hit us hard, with some brilliant play throughout the game we could not string it together. The defence players worked extremely well with new combina ons Teagan, Maddy and Amy working hard in the ring against Kongorong. Mid court with a few breaks but some nice movement and control over our opponents. Our goalies working on trying to convert but unfortunately, we're up against a slightly stronger defensive team that we're able to take advantage of our mistakes. Good work to Tamara Shepherd for taking out best on court.

B Grade: Bad luck girls, we were so close. I was extremely proud of how we all went out and played a great hard-fought game of netball. We all took what we did at training and implemented it into the game and as a coach that is all we can really ask.

Thank you for giving your all and really pu ng in. Ellie, super proud of you and how you stepped up and gave GD your all, and it even paid off when the umpires gave you best on court. Stevie, we hope you recover from your ankle injury asap. You are a great leader on the court and are not afraid to throw yourself on the ground to chase a ball. Best on court Ellie and Meighan.

A Reserve: With another different line up, we had a great first half girls, we played our own game and it looked awesome. We did a few bad things and dropped our heads. Just remember if you do a bad pass be determined to get it back and stay posi ve and encourage each other.

Junior 1: Another good day on the court from the team. We did really well to adapt to different posi ons considering we were down a few players. The mid court worked really well and everyone's defence pressure was great. Big thanks to Zach and Claire who stepped up for us.

17 & Under: Great effort by the girls to get the win! Skye and Zara started in goals together with Kate and Pheobe star ng in our a acking mid court. The a acking plays and pressure from this side gave us a huge lead of 36-5 at half me with Skye having shot 31 goals for the half showing her presence on court. Taylah and Milla started in our defensive circle with Marnee in WD to help apply pressure.

NETball club notes The one on one defence from these girls proved costly to Nangwarry as they were limited to 5 at the end of half me. We made quite a few changes at half me bringing Izzy onto GK, Milla moving into C and Skye and Pheobe having a swap in the circle. Our second half was definitely weaker than our first half as the girls struggled a bit to adjust to the changes but found themselves more se led as we went into our last quarter. Final score was 60-21 which from memory is our largest score for the season and it shows how much the girls are con nuing to improve each week. Awards: Skye - The Body Shop, Marnee Boost Juice.

B Reserve: Bloody fantas c game girls, you all played well, fought for the ball. Skye and Ella shot fantas cally, Reanna and Tamika defended like no man and Kelly, Emily and Julie ran the mid court consistently. If we keep up this fantas c work, we can keep the top teams on their toes. Our score was 47-17. Best: Reanna and Ella - Telford Family.

A Grade: Bad luck girls. New combos and star ng 7 proved to show promise and poten al but silly errors lost us the game. I was so proud of everyone's a tude and effort and I am looking forward to what the rest of the season has in store for us.

Junior 2: Our big squad of 10 was ready and raring to go against Robe. In wet condi ons we had to keep the ball short and direct. Paige was fast and zippy in the mid court, driving strong onto the goal ring. Ella and Hazel were an excellent combina on in goals, passing to each other to claim a be er shoo ng posi on and shoo ng accurately. Kirby got her fingers to any balls in the air and was chasing hard to pick up the scraps. Violet was ght in defence as always, reading the ball with precision, but also accurate in goals. Maggie B worked hard in defence, taking some strong intercepts, but also running into space in centre.

Mollie was a tall target in goals, cu ng front and using her voice. Kaia got the Ladies Award for her strong leads and her persistence at ge ng in front. Maggie Ma hews got the Maccas award for her first game of J2, and s cking ght on her player. An awesome team effort Eagles!

Junior 1: It was a freezing day for the li le Eagles and we were missing 4 out of the team but with thanks to some superstar Junior 2 girls coming up it was another great game to watch. The first half saw Olivia and Luca combing well in the circle and shoo ng with great accuracy supported really well by Livvi who took charge down the court with great direc on and balance working well with Paige. Kirby took charge in her posi on at WD consistently staying in front of her player to block the drive and Grace, Hazel and Mollie had eyes up and quick feet making for plenty of intercepts. The second half saw a similar style to the first half with the girls all se ling even be er with court spacing. Thank you to Hazel, Paige, Kirby and Mollie for coming up to fill in for us. Thank you to Tweet and Danielle for helping out on the bench.

13 & Under: Played in very challenging condi ons we set up a win against Robe 38-25 with a strong first half that saw Kalli shoo ng accurately and good defensive pressure across the court. The second half was a somewhat scrappy affair. We took me to adjust to posi onal changes and failed to chase down loose balls. It has been pleasing to see an improvement in our general fitness and we look forward to a strong second half of the season!

You all got to take the court and did a fabulous job. We had a really solid first half of netball but then unfortunately we might have went to sleep a li le in the second! Remember it takes 4 solid quarters of netball to be the best. Bella and Kyah combined strongly in defence making it very difficult for Robe to score.

Tori had great vision at WA feeding the goalies with precision. Awards: HLC - Tori Haines.

17 & Under: In what was a ghtly contested first quarter, Dakota and Lacey were reading the play well and using their speed and agility in the circle to score at every opportunity. Elly and Rosie had to work hard to try and shut down Robe’s accurate shoo ng combina on picking off any loose balls and rebounding strongly.

Laura and Emma worked relessly to work the ball into our a acking end, applying pressure over the pass and causing turnovers which Demi and Jaz feed effortlessly into our goalies. Was pleasing that we didn't panic under the ini al pressure and stuck to our game plan eventually running out winners by 14 goals. Thank you to Niah and Tori for si ng bench and Ange for scoring. B Reserve: Good win girls - everyone took

onboard Kez's help on Thursday night and it really showed. You all had good passages of play and everyone had pa ence in their passing, we used the whole court and remembered our lanes.

Indi and Dizey both shot well and both got in front without always taking the easy op on of the lob pass. Sally at C ran out those li le legs again and took many intercep ons. Michelle had some great passes into our goalies at WA. Our defence line of Staci, Fee and Karen were on key all game applying a lot of pressure and turning over many balls. Moving forward in the coming weeks we really need to keep working hard at trainings as well as your own individual fitness. Thank you to Laura and Niah for si ng bench, a huge thank you to Dizey's mum Pam for scoring, Amy for ming and Kerry for primary carer. We showed we have improved as we doubled our score compared to our first game against them and kept them to a score of 19. Leila and Ellie's shoo ng was outstanding and Georgia, Jess and Ella all played in our defensive end of the court and their great pressure and hard work saw them take intercept a er intercept.

Nic and Meg started the game in our mid court and ran hard and fed well. Lacey came on at half me at C and showed her speed and worked well with Nic. We are not at our best yet by far and there is s ll a lot for us to work on from our mid-court into our goal circle. We have some tough games coming up so need to keep improving. We need to work harder at training and make sure we are doing the extra fitness in our own me. A Reserve: Coming off a win against Nangwarry the Eagles were ready to put it all out on the court. The first quarter was strong, Hatherleigh keeping possession and being pa ent in a ack. Abby was on fire in GS, shoo ng 10 straight for the quarter. Eliza was moving well, cu ng base and giving Abby room to hold.

Marnie and Lucy were keeping their goalies to account, but Robe were holding their own and finishing well. Isabel was having an impact on the game early, building gradually back to her best a er injury. We had a quiet patch in the second, Robe ge ng a run on and scoring freely. Eagles soon se led and began driving hard into a ack. Whole court pressure was holding things up for Robe and in the second half, Eagles asserted their control on the game. A determined finish saw us up 54 to 32, great teamwork, good voice and fitness were an asset to the team. Abby got the Somerset award, Isabel got the Caltex and Lucy Corman got the Sport and Rec. A Grade: We'll take the win in what was a scrappy game of netball. Defensively our pressure was great, we just struggled to move the ball forward with any consistency. On the plus side our goalies shot well. Maddie P had a boomer of a first half and gave us a super amount of ball. An injury to Sarah B saw Chelsea come on at keeper and combined well with Maddie. Kes shot well in her first game since round 4 and pulled in any missed shots. Sarah F played her usual consistent four quarters running hard all game. Plenty of work to do coming off two byes so let’s get in and do it. port macdonnell NETball club notes Junior 1: Congratula ons on what was a tough and fast game. It was a much quicker game than usual and a lot quicker than what we are used to, but pu ng that all aside we played our own game and that was our goal. Super proud of each and everyone of you for s cking your ground and playing your own game. Our ball control was much be er and our passes were a lot quicker. We gave the ball as soon as there was a gap or a free player. Our transi on down the court was much be er. We slowed the ball down and we played a front game which worked in our favour when we did have the ball.

Coming in front was a big thing for us as they were such a tall side so well done to everyone for coming front and always being ball side - well done girls. We worked together as a team and we included everyone into the game which is exactly what I asked for, no ma er where the girls were put they knew their job and got it done. Everyone should be proud of themselves and keep up the great work. Best players went to Kasey McLean (Hungry Jacks) and Addison Smith (Donut King).

Junior 2: The girls tried really hard again last game, but the Kalangadoo girls were very strong. The girls’ defensive pressure all over court was great again.

13 & Under: We had a great start to the game, playing a very compe ve first quarter with Kalangadoo. At the end of the first quarter the score was 9-12.

Both teams had posi onal changes and Kalangadoo came out firing, but we had our goals and we certainly met them.

15 & Under: Best players: Sophie Lewis (KFC), Grace Jacob (Bakers Delight).

Coming out figh ng the girls gave 100% for the four quarters, proving their posi ons on the court. Sophie ran out the centre and pushed through ge ng hands to a lot of the ball. Grace has been knocking down the goals and making her defenders accountable, working alongside Lara. Everyone played an amazing consistent four quarters.

17 & Under: Well done girls - once again new combina ons to begin the game, and you all did your part to make it work. Kalangadoo was always going to be tough, and to go down by 14 is an amazing effort considering we had girls playing out of their usual posi ons.

Imogen started in goals, feeding Riley with ease, then going WA for the remainder of the game and con nuing to impress with her sharp leads, strong voice and feeding accurately into the circle. Arriella worked relessly in defence to keep her components out of the game. Rebounding with strong hands and doing what she could while being limited to court space at GK. Well done to all of you, and to Imogen and Arriella for ge ng best players.

B Grade: We hit the court with less intensity and desire than we ever have.

hard to overcome against a quality side.

Our starts have always been our strength throughout the season. We hesitated and didn't let the ball go with the confidence we usually have. Let's regroup and work on that at training, ready for our next game. Lara found great space around circle edge and had strong passing in to the circle. Defensive turnovers were plenty, but passing errors let us down and we didn't capitalise. We have to work together to score our own centre’s passes and work for the turnover. Tayla worked extremely hard to score, with the support of Candice and Kelly. Thanks to Tayla for returning to the court and stepping up on this occasion. Tayla found great space in the circle and was a focal point. MacKenzie worked hard through the middle, crea ng great drive into the a ack line and defence across the court. Thanks to Ariella who stepped up. Ariella played a great game and was solid in defence crea ng badly needed turnovers. Thanks to Lyndall for playing wing defence and crea ng drive through the middle and ght defensive around circle edge. Thanks to Sarah for si ng on the bench. We know as a team we can do be er than we showed.

B Reserve: Another awesome game girls. We were down all game and came out firing in the last quarter and came away with a 5 goal win. We stepped up our full court pressure and it really showed ge ng turnover in the centre court as well as down court. Maddy played a ripper in goals and got herself the award. And Brides ran all day again in centre also ge ng the award. Let’s keep up the intensity and come out strong again this week.

A Reserve: Great game girls. We had a goal coming into the game, to reduce our margin from 1st round and we did that. We had some great passages of play and played 4 consistent quarters which is something we have been working hard to achieve in our games.

S ll way too many silly errors, and we just couldn't hold on when it counted the most in the last few minutes of the game. Overall a good game. Best: Isabella Sneath and Megan Hein.

A Grade: Although we lost to Kalangadoo, it wasn't all bad. There were some great 4 quarters played, unfortunately K'doo were just unstoppable. Lucie really stepped up, was very impressed with her efforts as a young player. Once again Michelle, you had a great tussle and held your ground - well done. Brooke you found your feet again, well done , was quite the ba le in the goal circle. Best players: Michelle Moore (the Body Shop) and Brooke Williams (Taylormade Hair).

Junior 2: Well done my li le superstars on a wet winter day, you all played a great game in the posi ons you were given, and I am so proud of you all. Once again, some great passages of play down the court. Some great intercepts in defence and moving the ball down the court to your goalies to finish off. We s ll need to work on coming in front in the goal circle. Keep up the great work. Awards went to Eva (Dentons Sportspower) and Indi (Fasta Pasta).

Junior 1: Great effort from all players on a cold and rainy day.

Some amazing improvements can be seen in each players' skills and confidence levels. With the older players showing leadership and star ng to give feedback to teammates. Awards went to Stella (Fasta Pasta) who shot accurately each quarter, and Sabina (Denton’s Sportspower bag) who used her voice throughout the game and ran hard to get the ball. A big thank you to Isabelle for filling in for the second half.

13 & Under: Good job girls. We didn't come home with the win, but the improvement in our game is showing each week. In the first round we only scored 1 goal in the first half, but this me we reached double figures. I made lots of changes and you all played well in those posi ons. We went into this game with a posi ve a tude and it showed on the court. Keep working hard girls. Thanks to Lisa for ming, Alan for scoring, and Jazmin for umpiring. Awards went to Tilly (Fasta Pasta) and Kali (Denton’s Sportspower).

15 & Under: Strong start to the game. We came out firing and wan ng a win, which showed throughout the whole game with our defensive pressure and chasing loose balls. Once again we cannot stress how proud we are of how versa le our team is allowing us to create different combina ons. We came together as a team and put all of our hard work at training into play. Well done girls, it was tough to choose a best player as you all performed at such a high standard.

17 & Under: This game highlighted our improvement as a team and that if we play consistently across all 4 quarters we can match it against the top teams on the ladder. We s ll need to focus on minimising our own unforced errors which through nailing the basics will come naturally. It was great to see you all

a emp ng to put into play the things we have been working on at training and this will only con nue to improve if you all keep working hard at training and being willing to try these things out on court.

B Reserve: Kalangadoo came out firing right from the start of the game and outplayed us all game.

We all worked hard all day, but Kalangadoo were the be er team on the day. We will enjoy the week off and have everyone back fit and well, and con nue to work hard at training. Thanks to Sally for scoring, Hannah for ming, and Madi for umpiring. Awards went to Breanna (Beachport Hotel) and Jazmin (Mad Penguin).

B Grade: I was very proud of our team. Everyone did exactly what was asked. The defence con nually got hands to the ball, and we moved the ball well through our midcourt and into a ack. Our a ack line came front to the ball well. We proved how much we have improved as a team. We just need to control the adrenaline rush and con nue to present front. Awards went to Larissa Wa s (The Beauty Studio) and Sally Mueller (Millicent Chemist and Gi ware). Final score was Mount Burr 20 to Kalangadoo 51.

A Reserve: Bad luck girls. We had a great first quarter finishing 3 down.

Unfortunately, we were just outplayed and Kalangadoo just too good for us. We welcomed Lauren into our team in a shoo ng posi on and she excelled both posi onally and in her accuracy, well done Lauren. We look forward to playing more games alongside you and we thank you for your help. Thanks to Charlie and Jemma for also taking the court for us in the horrible condi ons, you both did a great job.

Well done again to our midcourt girls Ella, Layla, and Faith, and also Stacey, you girls bring it every week and do a fantas c job. Lovely to see Nod take on our ming du es, thank you. Our awards went to Simone (Beachport Pub), Lauren (Mad Penguin), and Layla (Heaven on a Hanger).

A Grade: We always knew that was going to be a tough game and that we would have to be consistent out on court to be compe ve.

Unfortunately, our own unforced errors con nue to increase our work rate unnecessarily and results in us losing possession easily. Thanks to Mackenzie Job for si ng bench.

ROUND 12 A GRADE NETBALL REVIEW MOUNT BURR v KALANGADOO Heidi Clark played 100 games for Mt Burr taking the court against a strong Kalangadoo ou it. The game started with both sides working hard in a ack to feed the circle. Kalangadoo made the most of turnovers having more scoring opportuni es with Jane Auld at WA and Jade Peacock C feeding goalies well allowing them to have a 5 goal lead at quarter me. Mt Burr 11 to Kalamngadoo 16.

Kalangadoo started strongly with Peacock con nuing to dominate through the centre crea ng turnovers and feeding goalies with precision passing. Heidi Clark put pressure on Abby Duncan (GA) forcing her wide for shots. Heidi Clark took numerous turnovers, however Mt Burr found it difficult to penetrate the zone defence of Kalangadoo. Melissa Russell at GS was the focal point in the Kalangadoo circle.

Chelsea Croser at GK made Ebony Clark work hard with Sarah Nulty at GA having to do most of work in the quarter.

Kalangadoo extended their lead to 10 by half me. Mt Burr 19 to Kalangadoo 29.

Kalangadoo made changes with Kori Collins coming on and Sophie Wrightson came on at WD. Kalangadoo came out with strength to create turnovers early in the quarter which Kalangadoo made the most of. Mt Burr worked their way into the quarter shoo ng with accuracy when fed with accuracy. Clark was having a ght tussle with Duncan in the circle. Duncan changed her game to a feeding role, meaning Peacock and Duncan fed Russell as a focal point in the circle, shoo ng at 100% accuracy. Mt Burr 26 to Kalangadoo 40.

Mt Burr made changes with H. Clark moving to C, McKenzie Bevan coming on to WD, Heidi Eldridge to GD and Laura Schultz coming off. E. Clark worked hard to be a focal point in the circle being fed well by H. Clark and Ava Muhovics at WA. Duncan and Russell con nued to combine well in the circle with Peacock feeding well and also taking numerous intercepts through the centre court. The Kalangadoo zone defence troubled Mt Burr, allowing Kalangadoo defenders to take turnovers for the goalies to capitalise on. Final score Mt Burr 36 to Kalangadoo 56.

HATHERLEIGH v ROBE In cold and wet condi ons Hatherleigh welcomed back Keston Green in her 3rd game for the season.

Robe turned over Hatherleigh's first centre pass and capitalised on their own being 3 up early. Hatherleigh took a while to se le into their new line up in the a acking end.

Maddie Pulmer helped her side with a few early turn overs in defence. Robe’s a ack was working well, Tori Gluyas and Sarah Laurie finding good space, which saw both sides go to the first break 13 a piece.

The second quarter saw great defensive pressure from the home side to cause

errors for Robe coming out of defence and with accurate shoo ng by Green and Haines this saw Hatherleigh get the jump and take the lead in the second. An ankle injury to Sarah Broadhead midway through the quarter saw Chelsea Galpin come into the game at GK. Hatherleigh went to the main break up by 10, both sides remained unchanged going into the third quarter.

The third quarter saw Lacey Haines and Sarah Faulkner delivering the ball into Green with precision. Hatherleigh’s defensive pressure down the court, plus wet condi ons allowed the home side to get ball and con nue to capitalise quickly.

Robe se led midway through and con nued to push but neither side took the game by the throat but Hatherleigh’s second quarter was enough to get them the win. A highlight of the game was the accurate shoo ng by all 4 goalies.

Final score Hatherleigh 62 Robe 52. Best Hatherleigh: Maddie Pulmer & Sarah Faulkner; Robe: Georgia Perkins & Sarah Laurie.

NANGWARRY v KONGORONG Both teams started with different line ups than previous weeks due to injury and unavailability. Nangwarry came out strong but just couldn't capitalise to start with giving Kongorong the jump on them, scoring the first 3 goals. Nangwarry started to se le with Cassie Dinnison and Ange Pra in goals both posi oning well.

Dinnison and Kylie Heaver were able to feed Pra with pinpoint accuracy. Pra finished off well with great accuracy.

Nangwarry 17 Kongorong 9.

Nangwarry con nued their strong performance. Hayley Burner and Hayley Vanderhorst combined well in defence making it very hard for Kongorong shooters and their feeders to get the ball to them. The strong drive from Burner out of defence really made it easier for the Nangwarry a ack line. Tori McIntyre had a strong presence for Kongorong running well and having a good tussle with Nangwarry’s Ebony Lawson. Chrystal Lock and Zara Von Stanke both worked hard for their teams providing drive in and out of a ack. Nangwarry 34 Kongorong 21.

Kongorong made a change swapping their defenders Georgia Bald to GD Riley Buckingham to GK although this was a more even quarter, the change didn't curb Dinnison; she con nued to posi on well for Heaver and Lawson and shoot with a high accuracy. Tilah Buckingham at the other end, really li ed for her team shoo ng at a high accuracy and posi oning well with Ella McIntyre, star ng to be more pa ent and move the ball around. Though Burner con nued her dominance taking numerous intercepts. Burner had a fall with blood, saw her come off for a while.

Kongorong tried to come back with this opportunity, but Nangwarry con nued to score their own centre passes, ll she came back on. Nangwarry 48 Kongorong 33.

In the last saw Burner come off with injury, Chrystal Lock going into GD and Bri Dycer into WD for Nangwarry. Kongorong again moved their defenders back. Nangwarry con nued to play their own game. Heaver was dominant in a ack for Nangwarry, her pa ence feeding her goalies was great.

Lawson con nued to run hard all game, both her and T. McIntyre s ll having a tussle but providing great drive for their teams. Lock, what she lacks in height, her determina on makes up for it, she put the pressure on and turned over some great intercepts. T. Buckingham and Bald were combining well last half and T. McIntyre fed much be er to them this quarter. But Nangwarry’s experience ge ng them over the line. Final score Nangwarry 64 Kongorong 46. Nangwarry’s best were Lawson and Heaver and Kongorong’s E. McIntyre and T. McIntyre.

TANTANOOLA v GLENCOE In wet condi ons, Tantanoola started the match strong with the defensive combina on of Tayla Rowe and Kate Bromley causing some early turnovers.

Down the other end Glencoe defenders made the most of any rebounding opportuni es and WD Rebecca Edwards drove down court clearing the ball freely to a ackers. An even scuffle ended the quarter Tant up by 1 goal, 10-9.

Tant came out strong in the second li ing their intensity and defensive pressure. Vic Lucas took control of the mid court with her consistent play and accurate passing into goalies Jami Walker and Emma Gould.

Tigers pulled away to enter half me up by 7, 22-15.

This me it was Glencoe to come out firing with the whole side li ing to stop Tant in their tracks. Strong defensive work and pressure by Sarah Edwards, Emily Thompson and Rebecca Edwards made it hard for Tant to break through and Glencoe closed the gap to just a couple goals within minutes. Tant’s saving grace in a ack for the 3rd term was Emma Gould who stood up tall and shot with accuracy missing just 1 goal for the quarter, not allowing Glencoe to overrun Tant and take the lead. Glencoe closed the gap to just 4 at 3 quarter me, 30-26.

Tigers knew they had to respond and start the final term strong if they wanted to win this game and that's exactly what they did.

Sisters Vic and Alex Lucas worked in overdrive all day to block Glencoe’s Donna Jaeschke and Ashlea Edwards drive into a ack, which allowed Tant’s Tayla Rowe to take risks in the ring that paid off. Tant transi oned the ball well into a ack and Gould finished off with accuracy, shoo ng 10 for the quarter which was the highest any goalie had shot for a quarter all day in the wet. Tant pulled away to end the match 9 up in a very up and down game by both sides. Final score 42-33. Best players for Tant were Tayla Rowe and Kate Bromley, and for Glencoe it was Ashlea Edwards and Sarah Edwards.
