It is with pleasure that I present my Grand Final report to you as President of the Mid South Eastern Football League (MSEFL).

All roads lead to Port MacDonnell for the 2023 Mid South Eastern Football League (MSEFL) Grand Final and on behalf of the Mid South Eastern Football League I extend a warm welcome to you as we seek an excing finish to 2023 in all grades of Netball and Football aer a sensaonal season with some close contests having already been played in the finals series.

Thank you to Hatherleigh (1st Semi), Tantanoola (2nd Semi), & Robe (Preliminary Final) for showcasing your club facilies and for being excellent hosts in the three finals and I am certain today once again at Port MacDonnell will be no excepon.

Despite another very wet winter, the oval surface is in great condion and all other maers will be taken care of under the leadership of Port MacDonnell Football Club President Cathie Williams.

I thank all of the League's member clubs for your efforts and achievements on and off the field this year as well as the work that you do in your communies as leaders. People in our communies are reliant on the social and sporng opportunies that are provided by the Football and Netball Clubs. Our communies are faced with many challenges in today's world and our sporng clubs need to connue to be the hub of the community providing opportunies and social interacon for everyone. We must always strive for connuous improvement to ensure the long term viability and sustainability of the League and all member clubs. It is fantasc to see the obvious pride and joy in the support that goes for each club from their communies and the people in it and I'm sure we'll see plenty of club colours and vocal support today in all football and netball contests.

One of the many high points of any season is always the interleague compeon. I thank all the clubs and players for their connued support. The League did not play senior interleague this year, however our underage teams parcipated against the WBFL & KNTFL in the U15's & U17's. This was held on the June long weekend, which was well hosted by Bordertown. I take this opportunity to thank Under 17 Coach Reece Duncan, Under 15 Coach Chrissy Mules and their players and support staff for their efforts. Interleague football showcases our League and provides a pathway and opportunity for our players. MSEFL had five players Ben Gregory and Mitch Lowe (Kalangadoo), Kallan Bevan (Mount Burr), Wade Chant and Colby Monroe (Port MacDonnell) chosen in the SE Zone team to play in the SA Country Championships in the Barossa. Despite winning both games on Saturday we found ourselves playing off for third and fourth posion on Sunday and didn't perform as well as we did on Saturday and finished fourth. Ben McGregor was an assistant coach, Sam Benne was our trainer and Ma Ballintyne carried the drinks.

As in previous years, imbalances on the scoreboard and lack of numbers have been issues in our underage compeons. It is pleasing to see clubs connue to work towards providing the playing opportunies starng at Auskick and the Under 11's as this is crical to sustaining our junior numbers in later years. Thanks also to Heath Sims, SANFL Game Development Coordinator – South East for all the support you provide at this level. I connue to urge all clubs to work with schools and Auskick programs to provide that pathway for your next MSEFL club footballers.

Thanks to our Match Review Officers and Tribunal Commissioners that have been needed to adjudicate on a couple of occasions throughout the season and thanks for your commitment and assistance.

Neil Webber, our Umpires Director once again had another challenging year with many injuries and unavailability's, however good support and cooperaon from clubs ensured that all posions were filled each week. The League sll needs to gain new umpires to ensure that we connue to have adequate numbers and to keep the umpiring panel

strong. I encourage any newly rered player or any person (male or female) that may be interested in becoming an umpire to come forward – training and assistance is provided and it is a great way to sll be involved in the game that we all love. Our Umpire Scholarship is available to encourage and reward new central umpires and we hope that it will provide a pathway to bolster our ageing umpire panel. The League would love to hear from those that have just rered as footballers and even our younger males and females that have a love of the game and would like to be involved.

It has been a good season for the netballers and we are delighted with their successes and we are keen to connue to build on and strengthen the relaonship again next season. Thanks Sara to you and your team on a job well done.

It is pleasing that the netball and football relaonships are connuing to get beer at Club and League level, but there will always be ways to improve and strengthen those bonds. Both sports rely on each other being successful to ensure a vibrant and sustainable compeon in all grades.

All outlets of the Media (print, radio & web sites) have promoted the MSEFL very well, however I believe we all need to connue to provide good stories to the media so that we get beer coverage of our League.

Xpress Signs have once again published the Budget this season online culminang in this week's superb Grand Final Budget publicaon, which is a collector's item for all MSEFL enthusiasts and Clubs. Special thanks to the SE Voice for providing an informave print secon of the Budget in their paper, which was greatly appreciated by many MSEFL followers.

We acknowledge the generous sponsorship provided by our partners and sponsors of the Family League –All of our season sponsors have been promoted in the Budget during the year and include the following: First Super, South East Property Sales & Management, Belgravia Sports Apparel, IDM Sports, Mahews Petroleum, Sherrin, Thomas Foods Internaonal, Wale Range Trading, Marjadah, Glenelg Football Club, Somerset Hotel Motel, Klas Bilt, In2 Trophies Monogramming & Workwear, Collins Court Butchers, Tony Pasin, Troy Bell, Nick McBride, Willow Financial Services, Hyland & Fox Signs, & DiGiorgio Family Wines.

So, where possible please consider our sponsors when you need anything, and then thank them for their support of our league.

The Presentaons for Seniors and Juniors was once again a combined affair with our Netball partners held at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre. The day ran smoothly and we will connue to consult with clubs to seek ideas for any suggested improvements. Thank you to the Robe Football / Netball Club for catering to the aendees superbly

Congratulaons to Mail Medal winner Port MacDonnell's Josh Woodall, Reserves Carthew Medal winner Hatherleigh's Ethan Bowman, Senior Colts Malseed Medal winner Tantanoola's Cade Kelly and Junior Colts Mansell Medal winner Glencoe's Kallan Price and all other trophy winners.

Please remember, as clubs, to look aer your volunteers and as supporters, to assist and volunteer your me / skills wherever possible to make your Club more successful and to share the workload. It really does help your club commiees to know that they can rely on some jobs being handled – so well done to all volunteers that have assisted each club and in turn assisted the League in becoming stronger. The League and all clubs can become much beer with more 'Givers'' and less 'Takers''.

Thanks to all those people that have assisted me as President, especially all of the Senior Board Dennis Muhovics, Trevor Ling, Jo Michelmore, Jo Dean, Michael Houston & Naomi Mitchell along with the Junior Execuve Graham Dowie, Gary Wilson, Steve McCann, Dylan Clough Umpires Director Neil Webber. All have worked well as a team and I hope we have delivered the needs and requirements of Clubs. The Board has been willing to share the heavy administrave workload and I especially thank

my wife, Naomi Mitchell in her role as League Assistant Secretary. I urge all clubs that are not currently represented to consider nominang a delegate to the Execuve. There is a requirement for someone with the following skill sets; liaising with the media with reports, IT skills, diplomacy, level headedness and to occasionally think outside of the square in looking at opportunies and soluons to the many issues that seem to raise their heads during every season. Thank you to friends and family that assisted in any way that you did. Thank you to all clubs that made me and all Board members welcome throughout the year. To those that provided any feedback on how the Board can be of beer assistance to Clubs, thank you.

As always, there will be secons of the Constuon / Bylaws, which need to be reviewed, and I urge all clubs to submit any suggested amendments to the Board for consideraon.

We appreciate the support of Murray South East Regional Director and Community Football Board director Sco Duncan, SANFL SE Football Operaons Co-ordinator Michael Mourbey, staff at the Community Football Board, and SANFL South East Regional Game Development Officer Heath Sims. Our relaonship with the Glenelg Football Club connues to evolve and the opportunity for our young footballers at U18 & U16 levels has seen good numbers of footballers regularly travelling to be involved at the next level. This creates wonderful opportunies for them to connue their football journey

Our final crowds have so far have been excellent and shows that the interest in the MSEFL is the equal of any compeon in this region. The mix of mulple clubs involved in football and netball final contests has helped to increase crowd numbers and add to the atmosphere at the ground.

Our football and netball region connues to face a number of challenges to our stable environment. From my perspecve, our League and clubs need to ensure that we stay united and are abreast of these outside pressures to make sure that we connue to be in the best posion possible going forward. Change at any level presents us with opportunies and threats, so it is challenging mes ahead for all Clubs and the League. We must ensure that we connue to work together, connue to focus on our core objecves in our clubs and League which include Facilies, Junior Development, Volunteers, Financial Stability, Risk Management and Community Ties, strive for connuous improvement, and connue to meet our market place, offer opportunies for our volunteers and youth in order for all of us to remain viable, sustainable and relevant to our communies well into the future. We sll find ourselves in a situaon where we are sll faced with uncertainty and the very real prospect of change that will impact our clubs and League. We must make sure that our voices are heard and that any change ensures the long term sustainability of all our clubs and our League is maintained and enhanced.

Finally, a big thank you to all partners and family of the Board to allow them the me necessary for meeng their obligaons to our clubs at various mes throughout the year with meengs etc. Special thanks to my family, all have put up with a lot throughout the year and your support is much appreciated for all that I'm involved in.

Remember that not everyone can win on the field, but we must all be winners off the field.

There will be some great netball and football contests in every grade today where seven of our nine clubs are represented and I hope that all players and supporters have some special memories of 'that one day in September'.

Be kind to each other and I hope that you have a great Grand Final Day and a safe trip home.

MSEFL PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Welcome to Grand Final Day at Port MacDonnell for the 2023 Mid South Eastern Football and Netball Leagues.

Well, where has the year gone? I can sll unfortunately remember the horrendous weather we endured at last years Grand Final. In extremely trying condions for both players and supporters I must congratulate the Kalangadoo Football and Netball Clubs on their hosng of the day. In what can only be described as horrible, we managed to get through the day relavely unscathed, albeit wet and cold. Depending on which side of the game day ledger you were on, the condions were either irrelevant or made an already ordinary day unbearable. At the me of wring, the weather Gods were finally going to play the game and give us some decent weather in which to close out our 2023 season and I certainly hope that this is sll the case today

To the reason why we are here todayCongratulaons to all compeng football and netball teams who have made it here today for the 'Big Dance'. You have shown that you are the best two sides in each of your respecve grades and even though only one of you will walk away with a premiership, your parcipaon in our final match of the year is sll something to celebrate and be proud of Congratulaons to all our medal and award winners who took home individual honours at our presentaons. To Josh Woodall (Port MacDonnell) who has obviously seled into his new role as playing coach with ease, took out our Mail Medal. To young gun Ethan Bowman (Hatherleigh), a previous Malseed Medal winner, showed his class in taking out this year's Carthew Reserves Medal. Cade Kelly became the first player to take out three junior Best & Fairest Awards when he was awarded the Senior Colts Malseed Medal for the second me (previously won it in 2021 with Ethan Bowman) and to Kallan Price (Glencoe) who had a very consistent season was awarded the Mansell Medal as the junior colt best & fairest. Kallan's father Adam Price is also a previous Mansell Medal winner and I'm guessing the Glencoe Football Club will be hoping for another stellar career in the same manner as Adam's.

Thank you and well done to the Robe Football and Netball clubs and all their volunteers for their catering, set-up and pack-up of the day

Special thanks to our final hosts so far this year in Hatherleigh, Tantanoola and Robe. The change in our by-laws now allows for the final venues to be scheduled without the need to alter them due to an A Grade side compeng. This provides both certainty to the League and all nine clubs as to when it's their turn to host a final. Each final has been very well managed and this is a credit to your leadership and the many volunteers all our clubs rely on.

To Cathie Williams and the Port MacDonnell Football and Netball Clubs thank you for your organisaon and coordinaon of today's season finale. I am 100% certain that the day will be a huge success for both the Club and the League and an ideal opportunity to showcase the unique atmosphere that is Mid South East Footy

This year it was our turn to sit out of the Senior Interleague compeon but we did

have our underage sides compete at Bordertown. Both our underage sides connue to improve at this level, and this is largely due to all our club coaches, both junior and senior. We have a vast knowledge base of coaches within our League and it is really pleasing to see them come together over the me of interleague trainings and game day to improve the experience for all players. To our junior interleague coaches in Reece Duncan (17's) and Chris Mules (15's) thank you for your me and dedicaon you provided to give the best in our league the opportunity to represent the MSEFL.

To the players and officials that where selected to play for the South East Zone team at the SA Country Championships - Mitch Lowe and Ben Gregory (Kalangadoo), Wade Chant and Colby Munro (Port MacDonnell) and Kallan Bevan (Mount Burr), officials Ben McGregor (Port MacDonnell) Assistant Coach, Sam Benne (Hatherleigh) Trainer and Peter Mitchell (League) Team Manager, congratulaons on your selecon and although winning both minor round matches on the Saturday missed out on a finals berth on percentage. This le the playing group feeling a lile flat Saturday night and subsequently finished 4th overall aer a disappoinng game Sunday

To the League Board in Peter, Dennis, Trevor, Jo Michelmore and Jo Dean thank you for your commitment to our League. Without people willing to put club loyalty aside for the beerment of our league we simply wouldn't be in the strong posion we currently are.

To the Junior League Execuve – Graham Dowie, Gary "Tug" Wilson, Dylan Clough and Steve McCann thank you on another well run year

Our “Family League” is a unique relaonship between both football and netball. Thank you to Sara and all Netball Execuve for your commitment to acvely promong strong relaonships between football and netball, may we connue to develop them at League level seng a good example for our clubs to follow. It has been a pleasure working with you all this year

Congratulaons to both Sara Gray and Jacqui Cocks on being awarded Life Membership of the Mid South East Netball Associaon – a very well deserved honour for the reless and diligent efforts you have provided to Netball over a long period of me.

I must also give my thanks to Michael Mourbey our South East SANFL Football Operaons co-ordinator. Michael connues to undertake a great deal of weekly administrave and behind the scenes work for all three south east leagues and has definitely made a difference to the at mes administrave overload we are expected to accomplish.

To the biggest queson in South East football this year – what is going to happen with football in the region? This subject has dominated board rooms, club rooms and Can Hill/Stubby Booths for the enre season. Yet, as we arrive today at season's end, we are sll none the wiser ! One thing is for certain – the Mid South Eastern Football League is here to stay, and we are not at all interested in the purported and ridiculous noon of a 15 team league that was inially proposed. This

message has been repeated and echoed not only from the Board but also from clubs, players and supporters. The truth is, we differ demographically from our closest neighbouring league, and our ghtknit community culture reinforces our commitment to one another on and off the field. We are ready to defend the values we hold dear. Each of our clubs holds equal importance within our structure; we stand as equals off the field. With this perspecve in mind, I firmly believe that the Mid South Eastern Football League will withstand the external pressures that may jeopardise some of our clubs, either through dissoluon or merger. Next year, it will be business as usual for us, maintaining our unity and purpose. As for the rest, they can please themselves! This year it was my inial intenon to step back from the official Secretary's role upon the appointment of a new incoming League Secretary. However, as the saying goes, you can take the Secretary out of the League, but you can't take the League out of the Secretary!! I sll found myself doing the work almost by habit and clubs also found it challenging in connecng with someone new who lacked the knowledge and understanding of how a football league operates. Given the addional uncertaines surround the future of football in the South East, it became evident that we needed stability and a strong advocate for our League. The upcoming off season presents an opportunity for both the Board and myself to reflect and reevaluate and seek a viable soluon for the way forward.

To my close and extended family, who connuously lend a helping hand and tolerate so much, expressing gratude feels inadequate, even if I were to say it a thousand mes. Both Dad and I wouldn't be able to achieve what we do without your unwavering support and the occasional piece of wisdom, whether we ask for it or not. I'm immensely proud of each one of you for evolving into compassionate, considerate, and occasionally outspoken young adults.

Today as we play, support or just watch our great game please be mindful and respecul of those around us. Be assured that all parcipants are trying their very best to assist their team to win and the negave and unhelpful commentary from the sidelines will do lile in achieving the objecve. I am also yet to see an umpire change his decision because of the advice being offered from the boundary line. Please remember that umpires are doing a job so that we can play our great game, no umpires – no game.

And to all the players, parcipang in a grand final is an incredible journey, a memory that will stay with you forever. Always keep in mind the broader perspecve and the collecve teamwork that brought you to this moment. Give your all, unleash your potenal and embrace the unique atmosphere created just for you. We eagerly ancipate watching you shine on the field.

Enjoy your day,

MSEFL SECRETARY’S REPORT

umpire director’s REPORT

Welcome to sunny Port MacDonnell and the prospect of four thrilling games of football.

I must commend the Port MacDonnell Football Club and the wider community for their outstanding dedicaon and hard work this year, which has their playing surface in excellent condion. Everyone involved should be jusfiably proud of their efforts.

Thank you to the League Execuve for the support they connue to give me as Umpires Director. It's not always an easy task, but the league's confidence in supporng me to develop and teach our umpire panel, especially in these mes of dwindling numbers, is truly reassuring.

To all my wonderful umpires for their connued support and assistance throughout the season thank you. Your dedicaon and commitment has been outstanding and it certainly helps to keep my stress levels moderate.

The excellent support we have received from club officials has been outstanding, from providing refreshments aer the games to supplying club umpires. We understand that this can be demanding at mes, but please know that your efforts are very much valued and deeply appreciated.

Looking ahead, the challenges of next year and beyond are evident, as we face a growing shortage of umpires, a concern shared by all within our league. We may soon find ourselves with just enough to supply A Grade, placing renewed pressure on club officials. Therefore, now is the me to approach rered players and encourage them to consider taking up umpiring.

To my wonderful, caring and understanding wife Kath, thank you for consistently being my rock, offering construcve advice, and providing unwavering support in this oen stressful role, I truly could not do this role without your support.

A huge thank you to my goal umpires for their outstanding support during the final series. Your contribuons have been exceponal. And to all the boundary umpires who have performed admirably in at mes challenging condions throughout the finals, thank you for all that you have done and I have no doubt you will connue to excel today. Finally, I'd like to wish all the umpires the best of luck today. Your appointments reflect your performances throughout the year. Some may have missed out, while others are officiang in their first grand final. Regardless, keep up the excellent work and savour the unique atmosphere that comes with umpiring on grand final day.

Let's sck together to keep our wonderful Family League going, as we truly have an excellent League.

The MSEJFL were once again excited to be a part of the Limestone Coast Regional Carnival which was held in Bordertown against rivals in WBFL & KNTFL. It's always a highlight of the calendar and it allows our brightest and upcoming talent to pool together and play representave football but also create friendships along the way that they will look back in later years fondly 2023 saw MSE retain both coaches from 2022 and this provided the players with some addional experience with both coaches having now played and coached at this level and are passionate about seeing our league compete and be compeve at the highest level.

The U15's were led by Chris Mules who's record in all levels of football speak for itself and was very closely assisted by Brad Auld who has played at the highest-level mulple mes. Coaches had a task this year in selecng their final squad and looked to be one of the more even and stronger squads in recent years and we were excited to see what the carnival would bring. Game 1 saw us up against a KNT ouit that we looked evenly matched with across the ground. From the outset the boys looked very seled and managed to get going quickly with some slick ball movement and ulised the long open ground to advantage. The backline held strong in the first half repelling the ball constantly allowing our midfielders to go to work. This saw us with a narrow 3 point lead at the half. The second half we looked to go back into our shell somewhat and loose the aacking brand from the 1st half yet we remained in the game and had several opportunies to steal it late but in the end went down by 10 points. Best players game 1 – Lachy Brierley, Kane Gilbert, Charlie Bevan, Ryan Lucas, Nate Von Stanke-Dowie & Kai Gilmore. Game 2 up against a very slick WB ouit that jumped us early in the first half but to our boy's credit managed a goal in the 1st half which seem to spark them a lile. The second half we were a lot more compeve, registering a couple of goals ourselves and holding WB to only a few majors with the final score 11-6 to 3-1. Best players game 2, Casey Wilson, Lachy Brierley, Charlie Bevan, Nate Von Stanke-

Congratulaons to Lachy Brierley MSE Player of the Carnival and to Lachy, Charlie, Nate, Casey & Kane in making the Team of the Carnival.

U17's saw Reece Duncan at the helm for the 3rd year running and this year was assisted by very well credenaled senior colts coach in Jed Telfer. The squad was liered with talented players with majority having played senior footy on a regular basis and a select few compeng in Glenelg teams.

Game 1 we were up against a very much larger side across the ground in KNT. They jumped out of the blocks early in the first half meaning our midfield and defenders had to work hard for the 22mins but there were some passages of play where we managed to control the ball and pepper the goals but could only manage a couple of behinds for the half. The second half we seem to get our running game going, li in intensity and used the long ground to our advantage while also holding KNT back and this saw us outscore them in the second half and build confidence going into the second game with the final scores 8-2 to 37. Best players Cade Kelly, Kallan Bevan, Ellis Cushion, Connor Genle & Braydn Hateley

Game 2 up against WB was a very even contest for the first half as both sides baled hard and were very evenly matched over the ground. This made for some quality footy and good passages of play as we went into the half me break only 3 points down. The second half was a repeat of the first as no team wanted to give an inch and we had more than our share of the ball all over the ground but could only manage the 1 gaol to WB 2 to go down in a very ght contest by 10 points. Best players game 2 – Kallan Bevan, Connor Genle, Cade Kelly, Ellis Cushion, Zeb Chant & Braydn Hateley

Congratulaons to Kallan Bevan who was awarded the U17 Player of the Carnival Aware, MSE Player of the Carnival and to Kallan, Cade, Connor, Ellis, Brayden & Flynn Peel in making the team of the carnival.

Overall it was one of our best performances

at the carnival in both grades and we should be buoyed looking to the future as these young footballers connue to keep plying their cra and developing into our next crop of senior footballers.

Carnivals like these wouldn't be possible without countless volunteers like our trainers in Erica Hurley & Sam Benne along with team managers, mekeepers, goal umpires and those who run water, so a big thank you to each and everyone of you.

Special thanks to our Interleague Sponsors in First Super & Belgravia Apparel and to Addie at The Rocks Shop for providing drinks to all players across the three leagues.

Leading up to the carnival both Mt Burr and Glencoe allowed us to ulise their facilies and this is greatly appreciated.

Of course, the game doesn't happen without umpires and as with all carnivals we had Umpires from across the three leagues pung their hands up to officiate over the weekend.

A big shout out to the parents and families who have supported the players in geng them to trainings and to Bordertown, along with our 9 clubs in supporng players to represent our league.

A personal thank you to Macca, Cloughy, Tug and Naomi as members of the Junior Execuve along with the Senior Exec as it makes life a lot easier having many hands to share the load to make everything happen behind the scenes especially on a day like it was Saturday with so much to organise.

To all the Mid South Eastern Football league players, thank you for pung your hand up and the commitment in represenng not only the league but club & family and we hope you enjoyed the challenge of playing representave football. I would like to wish players all the best for the remainder of the season and hope that they will look back at their me playing representave football fondly and connue to work on their footy cra.

Dowie, Kane Gilbert & Hudson Nowak.

birds to battle at the bay

HATHERLEIGH will add to its tally of five senior premierships with a hard-fought win over Kalangadoo in the Mid South East Football League grand final at Port MacDonnell on Saturday

The roof will be lied at the Mission Staon Road clubrooms later in the night as the ny township gets swathed in the blue-andgold colours.

Celebraons at the Hatherleigh Oval will connue well into the weekend and beyond as the local lads will have lowered the colours of the reigning premiers.

They would have also made amends for that miserable three-goal tally and 61- point thumping by the Magpies in the 2022 season decider at Kalangadoo.

I ancipate the winning margin might only be a maximum of three goals but that will be irrelevant once the final siren is blown around 4.30pm by mekeepers Peter Savage and Dale Bateman.

Despite qualifying for the major round in fourth posion with the lowest number of wins and lowest percentage, Hatherleigh will win.

To sum it up succinctly, the Eagles have a spread of scoring opons, one the best onball divisions in the compeon, in-form forwards in Brad Mitchell and Sam Telfer and are hungry for success.

The momentum is with them with impressive finals form.

The extra rest during September is not a key bonus anymore and, indeed, Kalangadoo have won their past two premierships aer playing in the preliminary final.

A third major round game in the space of a fortnight won't bother the Eagles at all as they have won their past two finals by around 13 goals each.

Hatherleigh have accounted for Robe and Port MacDonnell with plenty of run and carry which has served to unsele their opponents.

Robe had spent more than half of the season at the top of the table including an unbroken run of nine wins.

Port MacDonnell was impressive in the minor round and lost only two matches which secured it the minor premiership.

Like the Roosters, the Demons were le flat-footed by the running game of the Eagles on the big Robe Oval All Magpie forwards will face tough opposion from the ght Hatherleigh defence which was seen at its best in the preliminary final.

It combined superbly to thwart Colby Munro, Kevin Thompson and most of their team mates with the seasiders recording a meagre tally of just two goals in the perfect condions.

It is very rare to find a minor premier kicking a tally of two majors in any major round contest.

Due to a knee injury, Saturday could be the swansong for Hatherleigh coach Gerard McGrath.

At the other end of the oval, Hatherleigh forwards Sam Telfer and Brad Mitchell have hit peak form at the right me of the season.

They have stepped up a gear to cover the absence through injury of Paddy Chay and Jake Wight.

Chay and incoming coach Tom Hutchesson had led the Hatherleigh goalkickers in the minor round with 38 goals apiece.

Mitchell and Telfer will get plenty of support from the onballers and the flankers like Hutchesson, Jed Telfer and Jase Bateman.

The winning edge for the Eagles will also come from its running brigade of skipper Will Chay, Telfer, Hutchesson, Lyndon Smith and Mikey Telford.

The vast spaces of the Port MacDonnell Oval will suit them perfectly.

High praise is due to the seaside community for improving the playing surface aer it was unsuitable for play for much of 2022.

There will be some tough decisions at the selecon table at Kalangadoo and Hatherleigh this week as the final 22 is chosen.

One consolaon is that both clubs have their B Grade teams playing and they can absorb the unlucky and fringe A Graders.

Both teams are fielding new coaches from 2022 in McGrath and Al Lyon and only half the sides they fielded a year ago.

Hatherleigh won't have two players from the 2022 grand final who have le the district, three who are currently playing in B Grade, three who are playing at other clubs and three who are injured.

Kalangadoo has farewelled three players from the district, four are playing B Grade and two have transferred to other clubs.

The Magpies have won both head-to-head games in 2023 but the margins were not great.

Kalangadoo won at home by 8 points on June 3 and then again at Hatherleigh on August 19 by 12 points.

With key forward Michael Krieger transferring to Casterton Sandford over summer, the goalkicking responsibilies have fallen on Dylan Bromley and Ben Gregory

Bromley has the chance to become the first player to win senior premierships at four different South East clubs.

The versality of Gregory ranks him as one of Kalangadoo's most important players but he did suffer a heavy knock in the second semi-final.

Kalangadoo players can be proud of their efforts in 2023 in winning 13 games and losing just four matches to date.

Their fih loss will be the grand final.

Predicons (wet or dry): Hatherleigh to win Phil Muhovics Memorial Medal (premiership coach): Gerard McGrath (Hatherleigh)

Stan Jones Memorial Medal (best-onground): Tom Hutchesson (Hatherleigh)

J.L. “FRED” SMITH - SE VOICE

Junior Colts

In today's Junior Colts grand final, the top two teams of the compeon, Glencoe and Port MacDonnell, will bale it out for premiership glory

Both squads have displayed remarkable performance in the minor round, with each having lost only one game - and interesngly, that loss was to each other, seng the stage for an electrifying contest.

Glencoe secured a direct path to today's showdown by edging out Port MacDonnell in a closely contested second-semi final, with a final score of 5.5 to 3.1. While condions at Tantanoola were less than ideal two weeks ago, today's weather seems to be more favourable, allowing both teams to exhibit the full extent of their talent.

Both sides are loaded with skill and promise, with Glencoe's Kallan Price, who earned the Mansell Medal, and runner-up Harry Carroll from Port MacDonnell serving as pivotal figures for their respecve teams.

Glencoe will rely on the likes of Price, Tighe Hurley, Kade Mulraney, Sam Haase, and Bailey Dale to take charge and orchestrate their plays. On the other hand, Port MacDonnell will look to Carroll, Brody Pra, Kane Gilbert, and the Lewis duo, Zane and Je, to shine.

Having been in this posion last year, Glencoe may draw on the experience of "losing one to win one," but Port MacDonnell also have the ability to add to their success story. One thing is certain: this game will be a testament to the league's young talent and a fantasc way to kick off grand final day.

Senior Colts

This year's Senior Colts compeon has been especially compeve, with the top four teams not decided unl the final minor round matches

In today's match, Port MacDonnell and Robe will go head-to-head, both having secured victories over the ladder-leading Tantanoola to reach today's season decider

It's worth nong that the record between these teams in 2023 stands at one win apiece this season, and player availability, parcularly for Robe, will play a crucial role.

If all of Robe's college players make the journey home and handle the long trip to Port MacDonnell, we can ancipate a closely contested match.

Reserves

Hatherleigh has undeniably set the standard in the Reserves compeon for the past 4-5 years, with an impressive undefeated streak spanning the past 2 ½ seasons. Interesngly, their last two defeats were handed to them by today's opponent, Kalangadoo.

For Robe, these key figures include Max Robertson, Flynn Peel, Jimmy Murch, and Kaiden Carter

Port MacDonnell boasts a roster of strong contributors across every line, with young talent Parick Robinson standing out in their recent victory over Tantanoola.

Robinson's ability to repeal numerous forward entries was remarkable, and teammates Jacob Spehr, Riley Morgan, and Luke Richards demonstrated impressive, aacking football.

This game is poised to go either way, and the team that seles quickly and applies that all important scoreboard pressure will have a significant advantage to securing premiership glory

Both teams enter today's game with a clear understanding of what it takes to succeed, as they were both here this me last year. While Hatherleigh narrowly clinched victory in 2022 amidst atrocious condions, today's weather and oval condions appear to align perfectly with their strengths. Hatherleigh boasts a well-rounded lineup, featuring young and agile talents like Ethan Bowman, Je Faulkner, and Harvey Jones, complemented by experienced playmakers such as Jase Faulkner, Joe Rayson, and the everreliable Tim Merre, all of whom rarely waste a possession. Kalangadoo obtains a lot of drive from their half-back line, parcularly through runner-up best and fairest Nathan Reeves and Hatherleigh will do well to ensure his impact on the game is kept to an absolute minimum. Kalangadoo's Jacob Simmonds and Chris Mules will seek to advance the ball at every opportunity, and having a champion like Ben Mules up forward is every coach's dream.

Across every posion in both teams, potenal match-winners abound. Kalangadoo enjoys the luxury of a week's rest, whereas Hatherleigh wasn't overly exerted in their recent match. At the final whistle, there may be just a kick separang them, as is the closeness of these two sides and a victory for either team would be well-deserved.

Both teams will rely heavily on their key players to ignite their performance

Tantanoola started with the first centre pass to open up the first score of the Preliminary final in perfect condions for netball at Robe. Early in the first quarter scoring went with the centre passes with Emma Gould providing a strong focal point in goals for the Tigers. Tantanoola's goalies were under a lot of pressure from Sarah Edwards and Chelsea Owen, but their feeders were paent, protecng the passes in. In Glencoe's goal circle Tayla Rowe and Chantelle Cocks were having a great tussle. Tantanoola's height in the circle was providing challenges for Edwards and Owen and Rowe was geng her hands to anything loose in the Murphies aack line. At the first break Tantanoola had a 5-goal lead.

Again, the Tigers scored the first goal of the quarter and their defensive pressure all over the court was making the Murphies work hard for every pass. Glencoe seled, however Tantanoola stayed focused. Jenna Paproth worked hard at Goal Aack and her finals experience was evident in her composure. Kate Varcoe at Centre for the Tigers connued to work strongly through the mid court despite the pressure of Donna Jaeschke. Keryl Ousey’s long-range shot was causing problems for Glencoe with rebounds at a minimum. The Tigers went into half me with a 7-goal lead.

Glencoe opened up with the first goal of the third quarter through Cocks. Some of the intensity felt like it had gone out of the game and the goals were going on centre passes with no change to the lead at the 5 minute mark of the quarter. Glencoe started to get their hands to any balls that weren't on target from Ousey & Gould, however both seled and showed strength under the post to help Tant out to an 8-goal buffer going in to the last.

The Tigers connued to show paence and extended their lead to 9 early in the quarter with Ousey & Gould combining well with strong feeding from Varcoe and Jami Walker At the other end Paproth and Cocks kept working hard but struggled against the height and reach of Rowe who was fantasc in the last line of defence for the Tigers. Special thanks to our 6 Major Sponsors, MG Plasterers, Steeline, Skookum, Plantaon Treated Timber, Kalangadoo Hotel and the RSL.

We successfully held our 7th Indigenous Round, something we as a club are extremely proud and excited to support. James Brennan designed a special Indigenous Round Guernsey. Something he based on the close Kalangadoo Family and community that means so much to the Brennan Family. I believe this will be one of, if not the most important and significant days in the Club and Community's history

Our Junior Program has been highlighted as the most important part of our club. In years past we have struggled with Junior numbers and engagement. 4 years ago, we started up an Under 11's team, in the

1st season 2018 we had 12 kids playing. Now thanks to the hard work of our Commiee, Adam Box and his cohort of helpers, we have 44 kids playing in our Auskick and Under 11's. A phenomenal achievement in such a short turn around.

Across the other 2 Junior ranks we have weathered a mixed season. The Under 14s were superbly lead by Steve McCann. The under 17s were led by Tommy Williams! The kids encountered a very tough season and managed 2 wins for the season. Thankfully both grades were exceponally well led by great junior coaches and great people. Thank you to Macca and Tommy for your reless efforts. The main focuses across both grades are enjoyment and development. The focus for future years is to grow these groups significantly and have a good base going forward for our senior grades.

Both senior grades have experienced successful seasonons. Both Reserves and Seniors are playing in grand finals today, with the Reserves, with the Reserves looking to end a 40 year drought. Adam Box coached the group with Harry Peacock. Both great leaders amongst the group and amongst the Football club and broader community. With sustained hard work and a focused group I think we can take another step in the right direcon in years to come.

The Senior grade are led superbly by 1st year and cult figure coach Alex Lyon and Assistant Coach Nick Pra. Al is calculated, methodical and concise, all

aributes the playing group have responded exceponally well too.

I would like to thank all that have helped in the Canteen across the season. Led by Nicole Reeves on Saturday's and Darrell Hennessey on Thursday Teas. Nicole has once again ran the Canteen Manager's role and had another successful year, with sales and revenue at record highs. Well done to both Nicole and Darrell for all your hard work, it is greatly appreciated. To Bulljaw, Moorey, Benny Who, Brooksy and everyone else who helped at Benny's Hill well done and thank you for an outstanding year. Once again Benny's Hill proved popular amongst supporters of all clubs.

Thank you to the Commiee for all of the support you have given me across the season. As I stated before we are a diverse, inclusive and forward thinking Football Club and that culture is driven from the Members who generously donate their me to help make the Kalangadoo Football Club and enjoyable place for everyone to be apart of. Boxy, Chris, Trudi, Jane, Andre, Aidan, Ben Tommy, Jonny, Troy, Brad, Benny and Sean thank you once again for all the support you have given me across the course of the season.

Enjoy the Grand Final and good luck to all teams compeng.

As another season comes to a close for MIDSE this week, we take the opportunity to wish all teams well in finals and look to cement a few of those spots for ourselves in 2024. Another unseled year, and one of uncertainty regarding leagues, has tainted the season from start to finish, parcularly for those on commiees throughout all the clubs & league/associaon. It connues to be a thorn in the side of the great ‘Family League’ we are, and one we hope we can connue to be.

Many people to thank within our Club, starng with the coaches. Rob Whiy (& Amy) and Ross Stevens with the Under 11’s; May Maidment, Mark Paech and Peter Gordon the Junior Colts; Je Aard, Will Vickery and Brad Cordy the Senior Colts; Tony Elletson the Reserves and Cam Sandercock the Seniors. Mixed success across the grades with Junior Colts and Reserves playing finals, and Senior Colts just missing out. We look forward to a few changes and re-structuring across all levels of coaching, and implemenng our strategic management plan, to be a force in the coming seasons.

Thank you to our gate ladies in Ange and Sally, with Sally deparng and moving on to a sunnier part of the country, we wish her well, and thank them both for their commitment to the gate over the years.

Jacqui Doloughan not only does the Secretary role, but manages the canteen and all the food ordering, and does so in a very efficient manner

Thank you for your commitment to the Club which has connued for many years now. Jules Von Stanke excels in the Treasurer’s role and will be hard to replace, come the AGM. To the remaining general commiee members, thank you for all you do, whether on a daily, weekly or fortnightly basis, you efforts contribute immensely to the successful running of the Club.

Many thanks to Sarah and the Netball Commiee, and Daniel and the Junior Football Commiee for working together with the

football to bring some fun nights to the Club, sharing Thursday night tea dues and the gate raffles. With everyone working together it can only connue to build stronger relaonships, which will benefit one and all.

The Grounds Commiee connued to keep the oval and surrounds looking immaculate, and their efforts (while not many see them in acon) get noced and commented on regularly. Well done and thank you to you all.

We were fortunate enough to secure sponsorship from Thomas Foods Internaonal which, together with club funds, enabled us to put in a new electronic scoreboard, much to the delight of spectators and supporters from both our club and the opposion. To our major sponsors, Mundoolun Dairying and Telford’s Rural Contracng, many thanks for your ongoing support, without which would see us hindered in our upgrades and facilies maintenance. To our fence sign sponsors, stubby shed sign sponsors, jumper sponsors, best player award sponsors and all those in between we thank you for your connuing support, and we ask our followers, where you can, to support those that support us. Having a great sponsorship base is super important to small country clubs such as ours.

To all who volunteer across any role in the club, from team managers, goal umpires, mekeepers, canteen personnel, raffle cket sellers, stubby shed, clean-up crew, etc the Club wouldn’t be what it is without each and every one of you, so thank you.

Reminder of the Junior Presentaon Day on this Sunday commencing at 1pm, and Senior Presentaons Saturday 14th October, commencing 4pm, ckets on sale now on Eventbrite, can follow the link from our Facebook page post.

Lastly, thank you to those that support me in my role as President, I probably don’t say it enough, but I couldn’t do what I do without your support.

I encourage all of our supporters to support our sponsors at every opportunity to give back to those who give to us.

2023 was another step forward for our club as we connued to build and improve both as a playing group and a club overall. We opened the season with our Dane Swan gave which gave us some great exposure and showcased what we are capable of creang and providing. The mental health awareness game in conjuncon with Kalangadoo was another posive promoon and we thank Celeste for her role in this game which will connue on each year

We parcipated in the Auskick program this year and we thank Ben Just for taking on this role to provide an opportunity for the younger kids to experience football. We look forward to building on this program going forward.

Logan Gibbs stepped up to help out with the Mini Mini's this year with the assistance of Aaron Herron. Numbers varied week in week out but they had a good run every week and all enjoyed the game and showed improvement as the season progressed. We look forward to seeing these kids progress through the grades in the years to come.

Josh Smith took on the role of the always difficult task of the Senior Colts. Whilst we were once again a bit light on in the numbers for the season we welcomed a few new faces and there are posive signs going into the upcoming seasons. We will connue to pursue players to build this group. Whilst we may not

have got the results on the board there were definitely steps forward. We congratulate Archer, Noah and Calais on taking the step up into the A Grade on occasions throughout the season which sets them up into the future. With some connued addions this group should achieve some regular success over the next few seasons.

Butch returned for the B Grade along with his offsiders Mick, Lynchy and Hilly and the boys connued to build on season 2022 to be right in the fight for a finals spot deep into the season. Connued improvement and commitment should see the group take the next step in season 2024. There were plenty of posive signs and some great footy played throughout the year providing plenty of highlights for the supporters.

Shane “Taz” Raymond stepped into the Senior coaches seat this year. From day 1 in the role Taz showed that he would leave no stone unturned as he sought to improve the list and the footy that they played. The effort, dedicaon and desire to improve both our performances and respect as a team within the compeon was second to none. As a result whilst we may not of had a huge jump up the ladder we managed to get some more quality people into the club, we moved off the boom rung of the ladder with a couple of wins, showed posive improvement and gained further respect from our peers. All posive steps forward as we connue to build, 2 great wins along with plenty of good patches and some not so good that we will connue to learn from.

Players and Volunteer. I would also like to acknowledge the support of the Netballers throughout the year you stepped up to a new level in your support of the club which is greatly appreciated and built the posive vibes and success throughout the year

Finally to our hard working commiee we may have been around for a while but we connue to evolve and move forward with the mes and take on the challenges that connue to emerge. Congratulaons to our players, team leaders, runners, captains, team managers and coaching staff for a great year of football, your commitment to this club and to each other is the fabric of our family. To our members, sponsors and patrons thank you for your connued support, in mes when community clubs are struggling you are the reason we connue to thrive.

We have enjoyed another dynamic year of infrastructure improvement within the club, compleng the overhaul of our building exterior and sign work. No longer a shy and

rering building we now stand tall and proud in our space. We look forward to the erecon of our new B Grade booth shed over the off season which will allow our patrons to gather in a protected area and enjoy the day together

Again, we owe our execuve and commiee members our thanks for believing in change and for being prepared to try new things and own the consequences of our decisions. Our current commiee is a group of strongminded, individual people with different opinions which should be encouraged. If everyone thinks the same, then at least half of them become redundant. If you are interested in joining our commiee for 2024 don't hesitate to touch base.

Outside of our immediate commiee we would also like to thank the team leaders in each area. Geoff Prest for the bar, Jim Thring for Dads Army, Scoy Robo for the gate, Acon Fenton for the grounds and game day nuances, Brad Nunan for the booth and Em Vasek and Karla Hondow for the canteen and kitchen. Apart from stay in touch, we did not have to worry about anything in any of these areas and every single one of these people put in hours and hours of volunteer me purely for the beerment of our club. The dynamic ability of this club was demonstrated beaufully in our hosng of the Preliminary final, if we needed proof of how well our team works together this day was certainly that.

Thank you also to our recruing team who have worked relessly throughout the year

to improve the depth and commitment of our senior players. On a personal level I would also like to thank my training team –Anton, Ella and Jesse, for doing such a great job. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays all day is a huge commitment, and I couldn't do it without you.

We would also like to thank Kim Ross as President of the Netball Club for her willingness to work together and wish her the best as she hands over the reins. To her commiee, coaches, leaders, and players well done on your incredibly successful year and we look forward to our connual partnership in 2024. Good luck to the A Reserve and B Grade netball teams today – it is an incredible achievement to be playing in a Grand Final, we hope you are as proud of yourselves as we are. We all have our fingers crossed for you.

Lastly I'd like to thank all of those who I lean on throughout the year. Those who broaden my football knowledge, challenge my decisions, put their hand up at the last minute or lend their shoulder to rest on. I won't single everyone out by name as that will make for a very long list but to those of you who have spoken quietly with me or walked the oval by my side or taken my call to explain yet another football nuance, thank you for your paence and ongoing support. I couldn't do this without you.

See you in 2024.

As our 2023 season comes to the final game of the season I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our teams that made finals, and a special menon to our 17 and Under and B Reserve teams that are playing today with the hope that they can come away with the grand final flags.

A huge thanks to all of our coaches and team managers for the season and my commiee and execuve members for their support and reless work to make our netball club run as smoothly as possible week in and week out. On behalf of the Mount Burr Netball Club I would like to send out a huge thank you to our sponsors for their valued and appreciated support of our netball club. We feel very fortunate to have so many wonderful businesses, sporng

community members, patrons and life members that show their support in many ways each season. Lastly I would like to wish all teams playing today in their respecve teams grand final all the very best. I look forward to what the 2024 season has in store for the Mount Burr Netball Club.

Thank you.

B Reserve: Well done girls, a fantasc win under so much pressure. We were playing catch up netball for 3 quarters. The last quarter showed what you were all able to do under pressure and come away with the win. We kept our heads up all game and we showed our fighng sprint with every contested ball and this created turnovers, to get us back into the game. Im so proud of you all and today proved all our hard work, believe and support of each other to make the grand final. Lets enjoy this moment and come out firing against Hatherleigh.

Junior Colts: It was a great win against a strong Hatherleigh side to get through to a grand final at home. We played some fantasc team football from the first bounce to the final siren. We have an excing group and a Grand Final berth is deserving for the commitment and drive this team has. It was pleasing to see we had no passengers and everyone contributed when it was their turn.

FOOTball

Senior Colts: Couldn’t ask for much beer condions, playing Tant at home was always going to be an arm wrestle. Aer starng slow, the boys kicked into gear and played fast flowing skilful footy. It wasn’t unl the 3rd quarter we broke it open and took control of the game. It was never fully guaranteed that we had taken the

Moving into the Grand Final we face a strong Glencoe side that’s had the beer of us the past two oungs. We need to come to the game with clear minds and a posive atude what will be, will be. We’ve trained hard since March and it’ll be awesome to play a final at our home ground. We look forward to the challenge and will tackle it head on. Go Demons!

win unl the final siren had gone. Coming out 20 point victors. Best win of the year so far, we can’t wait to take on Port Mac down at the bay in the big dance. Best players were Max Robertson, Flynn Peel, Jimmy Murch, Cooper Thomas and Kaiden Carter. Major goals scorers was Daniel Nunan with four

Congratulaons to our A grade and 17 & under netballers who have won their way through to the grand final aer amazing games in the prelim! Best of luck to you both this weekend. The club will be open aer the game with everyone invited back to celebrate the season and hopefully a premiership or 2. Congratulaons also to all trophy winners from last weekend's junior presentaons, thank you to everyone involved on the day who helped out with the lunch, donated slices and cakes, trophy donors and worked throughout the day. As the season winds to a close we would like to thank all of our hard-working volunteers for all they have done this season. Every lile bit of help goes a long way and the more helpers we have the less load it is on everyone. Senior Presentaons will be next Friday 29th September – keep an eye on our socials for more info.

Senior Colts: Last weekend seen us venture down to Robe to play

netball

17 & Under: What a fantasc game played by the girls! So much hard work by everyone and we got the result we worked so hard for. Ebony and Bella worked seamlessly in the circle and shot beaufully, Charli and Demi med their leads well and passed with precision into the goalies. Demi, once again, you worked so hard for every ball and any loose ball had your name on it. Kailah had another ripper game in WD and made her opponent work hard for every ball. Molly and Holly baled hard all game and created so many turnovers for the team. Kaitlin played so well in defence and stuck to her player like glue and got plenty of ps and created opons into the aack line. Such a team effort. Thanks again to Poppy for helping us again. It's not over yet girls, a solid week at training for us and then let's put it all on the line! Let's go girls! Best players were Bella and Demi.

A Grade: Great game from all the girls with our Captain Jami leading by example with so much

for a spot in the grand final. The boys were eager to give it their all and start well aer a poor display last week. The first quarter seen us get mulple forward entries and put pressure on the Robe defence but unfortunately couldn't get the scores on the board, to Robes credit they took their opportunies down the other end. Aer an arm wrestle for the first half, we let the opportunity slip and allowed Robe to kick 5 unanswered goals which really hurt us. The guys gave it their all in the last quarter but ulmately came up short. Credit to Robe, they outplayed us when it maered. Best players were Cade Kelly, Ellis Cushion and Eli Bowman.

posive play and energy on and off the court. Tayla (Limo award) took some mely intercepts and connues to improve her game. She was well supported by Kate B whose work rate doesn't go unnoced. You're understanding with each other connues to grow each game. Once again the combinaon of Emma who showed controlled and Keryl (New Heaven award) who mixed up her moves made it difficult for their opponents. Your passes to each other, control and paence around the ring was great to watch. Kate V once again was solid through the mid court, along with Casey connued to be available in aack whilst providing plenty of defensive pressure. So proud of everyone for your commitment and hard work this season. You have been rewarded with a Grand Final berth. Enjoy, work hard and see where it can take you. A final thankyou to all our support group - Tamara, Simone, Maryanne, Bella, Shelby, Eb & Narelle as well as our umpires, mers and supporters.
