Ms. Cynithia Smalls Xposure Foundation Inc. Community School Director
Greetings & Happy New Year! My name is Cynithia Smalls and I am the new Community School Director for Xposure Foundation Inc. Can you believe my first job ever was working SYEP during summer camp at P.S 43? I am thrilled to be back in the building sharing the wisdom and support I’ve received throughout my developmental years! The most important thing I’ve learned since earning that first job is “Community is KEY!” Community is the key that opens doors to a bright, and sometimes unimaginable future. I will bring this essential value to everything we do and accomplish this school year. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if I can be of any assistance. Soccer Club Sincerely, Your neighbor,
-Ms . C
In-School Activities GIRLS WITH KNOWLEDGE W/ MS. F MUSIC W/ MR. B
GAME ROOM W/ MR.D
LUNCH PROGRAMS OFFERED GAME ROOM is a fun and rewarding approach to support game-base d learning. The use of video games, and other board based game s, transforms learning into an enjoyable, thrilling experience. Students are celebrated and awarded the opportunity to take advantage of the game room three days per week, at the recommendation of their teachers. GIRLS WITH KNOWLEDGE, a 501c3 non-profit organization, has partnered with Xposure and SBTS to transform our young fema le scholars into the next generation of female socialpreneurs and globa l business leaders. From economic empowerment to civic engagemen t, the youth leaders of GWK are emerging and excited to explore all of the opportunities that await them. MUSIC is where the scholars are learning to create songs and raps over beats, with the goal to record pieces that will inspire their peers . In every human there is a song. A song that helps us heal, helps us learn, helps us to grow and understand. Music is the opportunity to learn where notes and human nature meet.
What’s on the Horizon For GWK?
In January, Girls With Knowledge, led by our Success Mentor Ms. F, dove into the world of Business Marketing. These dedicated young ladies gathered during their lunch period to develop intentional and meaningful business goals. They’ve meticulously planned everything from their business names, logo designs, and product development (including ingredients).
Meet Ms. F
As February approaches, we are excited to have them enter the laboratory, where they’ll put their hands to work creating their own unique lip gloss lines. Soon to be available to peers within the SBTS community. Stay tuned for our interactive GWK Pop-Up eXperience!

Identifying The Notes Around Us... Through Music
Mr. Bradley Leonard Music Specialist
Students in our Xposure Music Program gained the special opportunity to learn from one of New York’s most talented and experienced musicians. Mr. B journeyed through January teaching students the foundational components to learning music, while bridging the gaps between the notes on the treble clef, and the sounds in some of our students favorite songs. As they progress through the upcoming month, students will begin to expand their understanding of music, along with the subtle ways that music exist around us daily. Music will not just be a tool for entertainment use, but a vital instrument in our efforts to support holistic wellness.
Meet MR. D
This Week in Game Room: Building Towards Success Game Room has been one of our most popular programs. While it may be an exciting escape from the day-to-day rigor of instructional learning, it is vital for participants to understand the ways they can leverage the skills acquired during gaming within a classroom setting. As February approaches, we are excited to help breathe life into education through this unique experience. The Game Room is a space to boost motivation; to show students how they are the main character in their story of learning. We are being intentional about highlighting the moments they retain information during gaming, and relaying that to their ability to harness power and knowledge at their desks.

Note from Ms. K One of the best parts about being here at The School By the Sea, is the ability to work with the team of leaders I’ve been peered with. I truly believe the hearts we have for community will overflow into all we do for the children, each other, and how we work with the school as a whole. I am elated to be apart of such a growing vision.

REFELCTIONS
For many, the start of the new year is a time for deep reflection and intentional goal setting. Take a peak into some of the things we thought about as we prepared for a successful 2024!
Scholars took the lead days before the holiday break, showing us why it is important to take care of your mind and body. As they stretched into the new year with wide grins and bright eyes, we marveled at the possibility of making “a moment for mindfulness” a reality for every member of our school community.
MINDFULNESS Holiday Heroes was an initiative carried out by our “Morning Greeters” - staff who encourage and support a healthy arrival to school each morning. What an amazing time we had connecting with students and families, supplying gifts for students and parens alike. We are excited to share that our Morning Greeters are still on site, prepared to bring the same hope and holiday cheer to every school day.
HOLIDAY HE ROES
High 5's, a Kindergarten Math Club, launched before the holiday break, invoking such an infectious joy for learning math. With small, intimate groups, and hands-on learning opportunities, students in our High 5's club are gifted the ability to explore math in fun and creative ways. Please reach out to ensure your child is in the next cohort!
HIGH 5's Your Turn: Take a moment to reflect on what you’ve read, and what you’ve experienced since the start of this year. Be sure to let us know how we can support your goals.
“One of the marvelous things about community is that it enables us to welcome and help people in a way we couldn’t as individuals. When we pool our strength and share the work and responsibility, we can welcome many people, even those in deep distress, and perhaps help them find self-confidence and inner healing.” -Jean Vanier
