Welcome To The Winter 23 Issue!

Welcome to Winter 2023! September 2023 marked our 14th anniversary of this platform and publication and I’m extremely proud and thankful to mark that milestone with this issue! I announced our relaunch on January 22, 2023 and was welcomed back with open arms, hearts and minds. Our first event was the 95th Oscars, we were proud to cover all events and what a way to kick off our return! We’re thankful to our friends at AMPAS and can’t wait for the upcoming events! Our Summer 2023 issue featured our coverage of the Tribeca Festival which were filled with so many phenomenal moments! Fall 2023, I was finally able to see The Renaissanc e World Tour in Los Angeles and I’m still missing the vibes! We were on the move in Ft. Lauderdale to celebrate FLIBS2023 with old friends and connect with new friends. Special thanks to the press teams, publicists, crews and everyone we celebrated with. We were delighted to meet the team at Sunreef and celebrate the debut of the 80 SUNREEF POWER ECO SÓL. We were invited onboard to meet the team and given an exclusive tour. After touring this all solar powered super cat, I fell in love and decided it would be my cover story. More on this super cat and other favorites from FLIBS in the following pages. Allow me a brief moment to tell you about the force that is Pinky Cole, you all may know her from Slutty Vegan. Her entrepreneurial venture American Sesh is THE event to attend if you’re able to score a seat. Watching her work (8 months pregnant, mom and newlywed) and her team work was quite something to witness. She’s featured in these pages twice as an author and as one of my 2023’s best events. Pinky, I watched you and your husband change lives and mindsets in real time at American Sesh it was an honor and I can’t wait to support your next few moves. I am extremely proud to be We attended Balmain’s Atlanta store opening which also celebrated the one and only Ant Kai. Ant’s sneaker collaboration which was one of the top moments of my year. Special thanks to Taylor, Paige and everyone at Balmain. Ant, I’m extremely proud of you and can’t wait to support your next moves! From there, we attended the 2023 Celebration Bowl thanks to the teams at ESPN, the MEAC & SWAC organizations and all teams involved. Friends of the publication, Eighty5 Cigars believed in me and took a chance. Although I’ve extended my personal thanks privately it’s important to do it publicly. Fresh off the flight back to Atlanta, I was honored to receive an invitation to An Evening with Rick Ross. The event was hosted by Professor Mo Ivory based on her Georgia State College of Law course Legal Life of Rick Ross. The evening a fireside discussion with Rick Ross and Professor Ivory highlighting lessons from the coursework given to students during the semester. Ross discussed the lessons he’s learned throughout the years building his successful empire which started with music but expands across all industries. It was a night filled with laughter, lessons and inspiration and we even met Mrs. Roberts - Ross’ mother which was such a honor. Special thanks to Attorney Leron Rogers and Attorney John Rose for the invitation. Special thanks to Professor Ivory, students and Mr. Ross.

Currency Matters Uber/Doorash Lose Appeal App based delivery drivers in the state of New York recently won a favorable verdict in seeking wage increases. An appeals court rejected the appeal of Uber, DoorDash and Grubhub who claimed the increased wages law would force them to reduce service areas, customer satisfaction and more. A September ruling allowed the law to take effect but blocked it to allow the appeal to be considered. Drivers were considered independent contractors in which minimum wage laws were not applicable. Drivers in New York will now earn $17.96 per hour with an increase to nearly $20 per hour in April 2025. The companies released statements on their disappointment in the appeal being rejected. The companies will still offer the option to be paid by the hour or by the delivery. New York is the first state to enact the legislation, there is potential for other states to introduce respective legislation in the future.

Amazon Splits From Venmo

Starting Jan. 10 Venmo will no longer be accepted by the retailer via the Amazon mobile app nor the direct website . Therelationship bewtween Amazon & Venmo began in October 2022. “Customers can still use nearly a dozen other payment options, such as debit cards, credit cards, checking accounts, or installments to pay for their orders,” a Venmo spokesperson stated Customers can add their Venmo credit or debit cards to their Venmo wallets to pay on Amazon. The announcement caused shares of PayPal to take a slight A spokesperson for PayPal reportedly stated the company stil has a strong relationship with the retailer.

There was a time when streaming subscription services were marketed as a cord cutting alternative to cable. Now, there are so many services that costs close to having a cable provider. 2 of the biggest streaming companies are making headlines with potential merger talks - mosst recently Warner Bros Discovery & Paramount. Paramount has also been in early talks with Apple on a potential merger. Verizon recently announced it would launch a Netflix and Max streaming bundle for $10 per month. Instacart announced that its Instacart+ members can now get Peacock Premium for free. In October, Apple announced a $3 increase to the monthly price of AppleTV+, bringing it to $9.99. In June, Paramount raised the monthly price of its adsupported essentials plan by $1 to $5.99 monthly and its premium plan by $2 to $11.99, according to reports. Apple and Paramount are eyeing bundling their streaming services at a discounted rate, the WSJ reports. The two companies have discussed bundling their Apple TV+ and Paramount+ streaming services at a price point that would be less than if customers subscribed to both services separately. All of the merger discussions really picked up during the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes with companies uncertain about content as well as the turn the economy has taken. Netflix launched streaming in 2007, Hulu in 2008, Paramount+ in 2014, Disney+ in 219, Peacock in 2020 and HBO Max in 2020 with a rebrand as Max in 2023. Zaslav(WBD) and Redstone (Paramount) have reportedly had a few conversations but its still early but Zaslav has asked for bankers. WBD’s market value is reportedly around $29 billion while Paramount is just over $10 billion.

Streamer Mergers = Bigger Business

There’s also been significant reports of major revenue losses such as Disney+ $387 million. Naturally, those type of losses will cause all platforms to reorganize with a strategy to have more consistent profits. As the details become available, we will update.

Wells Fargo ‘s 2019 fake account scandal has come back to the spotlight as former CEO Timothy Sloan is suing the bank for alledged contract violations which led to his ouster. Sloan states he was used as a “scapegoat” during the time and is seeking $35 million in his suit. Sloan maintains he was not responsible for the sales practices of Wells Fargo. Sloan says Wells Fargo owes him for unpaid stock awards, bonuses and unspecified emotional distress. Sloan was the CEO at the time of the accounts scandal in 2016 when details of an investigation were revealed the bank was pressuring employees to open accounts. The federal regulators discovered the practice dated all the way back to 2011.

The bank paid penalties in excess of $1.5 billion and$620 million in settlements with shareholders and customers. Sloan in his lawsuit says he did not have a severance agreement at the time “in the spirit of mutual trust”. A spokesman for Wells Fargo reportedly stated “Compensation decisions are based on performance”.

Earlier this year, there was so much buzz from the Beyhive and the world in response to Beyonce’s hair care line. In the social media posts, we could see a few product bottles on the counter. The buzz began to increase even further once members of the hive found the trademark info for a registered mark called Cècred. With the release of Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce, eagle eyed movie goers were all over social media going crazy about spotting the products with different packaging and the name on it. The posts went viral showing a scene with Blue Ivy getting her hair touched up. The speculation and anticipation is extremely high with the possible release of Cècred as well as more music from the Queen. Ant Kai x Balmain Atlanta Store Opening Celebration

We were extremely honored to receive a gorgeous invitation from the team at Balmain to celebrate their Atlanta retail location. The night was also a celebration of Balmain’s collaboration with the one and only Ant Kai! One of our favorite highlights of the evening was working with Balmain’s Space Runers who showed us how to customize our own pair of Unicorn Sneakers! Seattlebased creative artist, Ant Kai, is known for designing custom sneakers utilizing traditional and modern-day techniques. He pulls inspiration from a wide range of interests spanning from nature, traditional Japanese methods and more that evolve into unique creations and functional art. In the short period of time that Ant Kai has been a full-time, self-taught artist his work has been worn and appreciated by notable names such as Michael B. Jordan, Daniel Arsham, Chloe Grace Moretz and many others.

Top 10 Looks From The Renaissance World Tour Our Top Fashion Moments of 2023 belong to Beyonce and the Renaissance World Tour. There were so many looks to choose from and there were lots of debates on which 10 looks would be our picks. From the start of the tour in Europe, Beyonce stunned in the silver Irish Van Herpen look. 2023: Rewind

The 95th Oscars was one for the books! The night was ful of surprises, great speeches, lots of fun backstage moments like the one pictured. Rihanna performed looking so glowingly beautiful. The standout moments from the night were the speeches from Ke Huy Quan who spoke about how much movies meant to him growing up and what the win meant to him. Other highlights included Michelle Yeoh’s moving speech as it relates to aging in Hollywood. Jamie Lee Curtis poked fun at her being referred to as a nepo baby which had all of us giggling. Brandon Fraizer won for his unforgettable performance in The Whale. Guillermo del Toro won for Pinocchio and gave a great speech as well. A lot of historic moments were all a part of Hollywood’s biggest night and we were honored to cover it all. For more backstage moments, check out our exclusive gallery only on our website.

We recently attended American Sesh which is an business incubator event hosted by Pinky Cole Hayes (Slutty Vegan CEO) and her husband Derrick Hayes (Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks CEO). American Sesh is “Where Your Mind Is Your Currency” We were excited to attend Sesh27 and learn, network and collborate with other entrpreneurs. A few highlights of our sesh was watching businesses being launched and funded during the event. One of the rules of the house that really stood out besides no phones was- no egos in the room. There were so much collaboration before the event as we prepared to go in and even more once the main event was over. Pinky confirmed she is eager to bring American Sesh to television really soon. It was truly an honor to be invited to spend An Evening With Rick Ross hosted by Georgia State College of Law Professor Mo Ivory based on her course #LegalLifeRickRoss. Each year, Professor Ivory builds a curriculum around a figure for her class to study. Lessons include materials like business contracts, acquistion agreements and more. It was a night filled with tons of insight into Rick Ross’ business mindset, the way he approaches deals and more. Ross also shared insight into how he built his team, we heard from his team on contracts, branding & more. He shared lessons in business and how he sees his future. Professor Ivory’s students shared with us how much they enjoyed the course and the way Professor Ivory makes learning so relatable and easy. Bonus: We met his mom who was the absolute sweetest. Special thanks to Attorney Leron Rogers and Attorney John Rose for the invitation and opportunity to learn and gain valuable insight into the business life of Rick Ross. The Florida A&M Rattlers were victorious with a 30-26 win over Howard University in the 8th annual Cerebration Bowl at Mercedes Benz Stadium. Both teams were making their first appearance in the game, which decides the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) national champion.

Fans in attendance enjoyed great plays and great halftime performances by both universities which had Vice President Kamala Harris on her feet enjoying the festivities. The Rattlers’ Kelvin Dean, Jr. was named the Offensive MVP of the game, while his teammate Isaiah Major garnered Defensive MVP honors. Congratulations to Coach Willie Simmons and the entire staff, students, alumni of FAMU on your championship win! We cannot wait to attend next year!

We were excited to speak to the team about Triton 3300/3 MK II. We’ve seen this vessel in action in various documentaries like Blue Planet II. Heesen Superyacht’s Ocean Z We had a great time speaking with the Heesen team about the beauty that is Ocean Z! This beauty from The Netherlands was delivered in 2022 with a length of 49.9 meters (163 feet) of pure gorgeous interiors designed by Reymond Langton Design.

Ocean Z is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks.The beautiful exterior was designed by Clifford Denn. Ocean Z can accommodate up to10 guests in 5 cabins and 9 crew members. Ocean Z reached a top speed of 15 knotspowered by 2 MTU engines. The beauty is currently not for sale, we enjoyed our time with this beauty and the Heesen team!

Savor CosMc’s is “inspired by nostalgia,” McDonald’s said in Wednesday’s release, and diners will be able to customize their drinks with “popping boba, flavor syrups, energy or Vitamin C shots” and more. First location will open in Bolingbrook, Illinois late December with more locations opening in 2024 throughout the country. Drink menus include baked goods, classic McDonalds sandwiches, specialty ice teas and lemonades, slushes & frappès, and more!

In their history of 169 years, after numerous successful products, restaurants, retail stores and more - customers can indulge in this new collection. The famous monogram is gorgeously weaved throughout the collection. The Santa Barbara International Film Festival recently announced cinema icon Robert Downey Jr. will receive the Maltin Modern Master Award, its highest accolade, at the 39th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Downey Jr. will receive the prestigious award on Friday, February 9, 2024. The ceremony will include an in-person conversation between Downey and legendary film historian and critic Leonard Maltin, for whom the award is named.

The duo will discuss Downey’s expansive five-decade acting career, his rise to becoming one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful actors to date, culminating in his recent searing, indelible performance as Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan’s staggering, global cinematic phenomenon, Oppenheimer. Christopher Nolan adds, “It’s thrilling to see audiences responding not just to Robert Downey Jr’s incredible charisma, but to a performance which, stripped of any movie star trappings, shows once again that he is one of the greatest actors.” The Modern Master Award was established in 1995. 2023 saw the ending of a Sunday evening staple with Succession’s series finale. As super fans of the series, and unofficial CEO of the Succession Depression Support Group (not a real thing but should be), Heritage Auctions is hosting an online auction unlike any other. Auction offerings include the show’s costumes, props, decor, Kendall’s Harvard Diploma, Logan’s photos, furniture and more. Online bidding is happening now through January 13.

Iconoclasts The year was absolutely dominated by everything Renaissance, for those who couldn’t attend the live show - the concert film is definitely for you! The film gave insight into what it takes to successfully launch a tour of that scale and travel worldwide. The film also gave the audience a small peek into the struggles Beyonce had to overcome including knee surgery right before going on the road. One of the standout moments was during the performance of Alien Superstar - the area loses power the way Beyonce and the team handles it made the audience cheer loudly in the the theater. Other standout moments include showing Blue Ivy’s progress from her first performance through her last. The mute challenge in the theater was unsuccessful in the showing we attended and everyone laughed and danced. The film highlights TS Madison, Kevin JZ Prodigy and more icons of LGBTQ+ community and more. The film was a well rounded viewing experience which leaves the audience motivated and inspired. At press time, the film is still in theaters - treat yourself, don’t cheat yourself!

Andre 3000 shocked the world when he announced his new album - New Blue Sun.Fans were sent into a frenzy with high anticipation of his new music. As more details were released, the announcement came that New Blue Sun would be an instrumental album full of music Andre plays with various flutes. We were on hand for the Atlanta album release and premiere which no one knew what to expect. The event was part performance art, part meditation and full of good vibes and music. Various shades of blue filled the screen as Andre practiced yoga, played some of the songs and more. The event was attended by Mayor Andre Dickens, multimedia personality Ryan Cameron, Bem Joiner of Atlanta Influences Everything and more. We look forward to what Andre will do next and if we will have to wait so long for new music.

As the year was approaching the end, news of the loss of Andre Braugher sent shockwaves as fans, colleagues and tributes poured out. Most people remember Braugher as the balloon arch loving Captain Holt on Brooklyn Nine Nine. Our first Braugher role we loved was watching him deliver poignant performances weekly as Detective Frank Pembleton in Homocide: Life on The Street. Braugher started his career as a Shakespeare in the Park actor and went on to have a full career of giving us laughter, deeply poignant moments and feel good moment. Mr. Braugher will be missed.
