KINANI Já não se dança como antes. KINANI, um festival para além da dança Escrito por:

Jaime Álvaro O Festival KINANI (palavra da língua rhonga que em português significa ‘dancem’) não se trata apenas de dança, vai muito além da combinação de ritmados movimentos do corpo. KINANI é uma plataforma internacional de investigação e formação de profissionais de diversas áreas que compõem um espectáculo performativo. KINANI é experimentação e intercâmbio. KINANI é o próprio espírito da dança contemporânea moçambicana.

Esta Plataforma Internacional de Dança Contemporânea contribui para o desenvolvimento de coreógrafos e bailarinos, dando visibilidade ao seu trabalho e abrindo portas à sua internacionalização. Criada em 2005 com objectivo de alargar o panorama da dança contemporânea em Maputo, a mostra de artes performativas que bienalmente nos proporciona consolidou-se e hoje é uma referência em África e no mundo. É nosso produto, é da casa, e a revista Xonguila valoriza tudo o que é feito em Moçambique, por e para moçambicanos, e tudo o que eleva o nome do país além dos limites fronteiriços. Nesse âmbito, conversámos com o director criativo do KINANI, Quito Tembe, co-fundador da plataforma, que partilhou a sua experiência de organizar uma edição do Festival em meio à pandemia da covid-19, cujos impactos se reflectiram directamente nas artes cénicas e na vida dos seus fazedores, de modo particular.

KINANI IX: O "REENCONTRO" A edição 2021 do KINANI – Plataforma Internacional de Dança Contemporânea de Maputo realizou-se entre 23 e 28 de Novembro, tendo reunido mais de 100 profissionais de todo o mundo, entre directores de grandes companhias teatrais e de dança, dançarinos e criativos internacionais. A organização proporcionou 20 espectáculos, todos apresentados com a presença de público. Alguns em praças públicas sem palco, mas sempre com olhares atentos aos momentos mágicos que caracterizaram o KINANI.

"O nosso objectivo era responder à necessidade de os artistas saírem de casa para apresentar o seu trabalho ao público, e em presença, depois de longo tempo de confinamento", explicou o director do KINANI e também curador da nona edição, Quito Tembe. "Organizámos o KINANI 9 no meio de incertezas.

Tanto nós (a organização) quanto o público não sabíamos o que é que esperávamos, e nunca me tinha acontecido isso como curador. No entanto, foi uma super boa surpresa a forma como todos nós acolhemos o espectáculo". "Reencontro" é como foi baptizada esta edição do Festival KINANI. Um reencontro do artista com o palco e com o seu público; do público com o artista; e dos amantes da arte performativa. "Foi muito bonito ver a emoção do artista em cena, e a emoção do público a assistir ao espectáculo. Portanto, esta edição foi das mais especiais, pelo facto de a termos conseguido realizar, confrontando-nos com todas as contrariedades impostas pela pandemia da covid-19. Nunca sentimos uma energia tão vibrante quanto esta desta edição", revelou, tentando transmitir o sentimento, descrevendo-o da melhor forma possível.

"Nós, no início, nas primeiras edições, tínhamos uma média de 3 a 4 profissionais (directores de teatro e de companhias de dança) provenientes da África do Sul, mas hoje estamos com um leque de 100 profissionais, oriundos de todas as partes do mundo. Ter a dimensão e a importância que esta plataforma acabou ganhando a nível internacional é para nós motivo de muita satisfação e orgulho", assim sintetizou Quito Tembe o evoluir do Festival ao longo da sua história.

A PORTA DE ACESSO AO MUNDO O principal objectivo do Festival KINANI, segundo o seu mentor, é a profissionalização de jovens coreógrafos e bailarinos, e é, igualmente, a internacionalização dos mesmos. "Sem querer ser pretensioso,

o KINANI é a principal porta para a internacionalização. A partir do Festival são fechados vários acordos e são criadas várias turnês, várias digressões pelo mundo. Grande parte dos coreógrafos moçambicanos que andam mundo fora foram descobertos ou celebraram acordos ou foram promovidos, através deste evento", frisou. Quito lamenta o facto de o KINANI ser o lugar por excelência de promoção de dança contemporânea nacional. O entusiasta amante das artes cénicas, da dança moderna em particular, defende que "devem ser criadas mais plataformas em prol do desenvolvimento das artes performativas no país. Numa só semana, directores de companhias de teatro e de dança de todo o mundo vêm a Moçambique à procura de projectos, de coreógrafos ou de bailarinos. E o único local onde se podem encontrar é no KINANI", referiu.

E SE O KINANI NÃO EXISTISSE...?

Quito Tembe não tem dúvida de que sem o KINANI a dança contemporânea nacional não estaria no lugar e nível em que se encontra hoje. "Qual poderia ser o local que ajudasse e contribuísse para essa questão da profissionalização das artes? A partir do qual os nossos profissionais haveriam de promover os seus trabalhos, vender os seus trabalhos, onde é que os nossos artistas o fariam?", indaga Quito, para depois desmitificar o verdadeiro espírito do KINANI. "Então, o KINANI, de alguma forma, chega para complementar o que nós poderíamos chamar de uma possível indústria cultural no país. E porque uma indústria sem mercado não é indústria, o Festival, de certa forma, também contribui para a criação do mercado, não se pode ignorar esse facto", disse, antes de contar o processo de formação do público do Festival.

"A maior dificuldade que enfrentámos ao conceber o KINANI foi a formação do público, que era o meu grande sonho, o meu 'cava-

lo de batalha'. Toda a fase inicial deste festival estava virada para aí", revelou. "Nós sentíamos que o público moçambicano ainda desconhecia a dança contemporânea, no sentido de pensar a dança, criar a dança, a dança que põe o pensamento e a criatividade acima de movimentos. Isto ainda era um pouco desconhecido'', considerou. Por isso, na sua fase inicial, o Festival dedicou-se inteiramente à formação do público, segundo Quito. O processo consistia em acordos com escolas secundárias, que emprestavam os seus salões aos coreógrafos participantes do Kinani para ensaios. Em contrapartida, o KINANI deixava a comunidade estudantil assistir aos ensaios e promovia seminários com os estudantes sobre dança contemporânea. "Os alunos das escolas faziam perguntas simples como: - O que é isso de dança contemporânea?

Porquê esses movimentos estranhos meio descoordenados? O que é esta coisa que parece de malucos?", contou.

Quito diz que resolveu mais de um problema numa só cajadada.

"Foi muito interessante, porque não ajudou apenas na formação do público, mas também a fazer com que os próprios coreógrafos ficassem destemidos diante de um público, diante da conversa com aqueles estudantes, que os treinava para falar em público, que os treinava para debater sobre a sua própria arte. Isso ajudou-nos muito", regozijou-se.

O Festival KINANI celebra, em 2023, 20 anos de estrada. Até lá, a esperança é de que a pandemia da covid-19 seja passado, e que a dança continue a ser a dança, naturalmente, mesmo que seja possível fazer chegar o movimento do corpo por meio da tecnologia, porque o contacto físico é que nos torna humanos.

KINANI Dance is no longer what it used to be. KINANI, a festival beyond dance Written by:

The KINANI Festival (kinani, a Ronga word, means 'dance') is not just about dance, and goes far beyond the combination of synchronized body movement.

KINANI is an international platform for professional research and training in all the different areas that make up a performance show. KINANI is experimentation and exchange. KINANI is the very spirit of contemporary Mozambican dance.

This International Contemporary Dance Platform contributes to the development of choreographers and dancers, giving visibility to their work and opening doors to their internationalization.

Created in 2005 with the aim of broadening the horizon of contemporary dance in Maputo, this biennial performing arts exhibition has become a fixture in the cultural calendar. Today, it is also a reference in Africa and the world. It is our product, it is locally made, and Xonguila magazine values everything that is made in Mozambique, by and for Mozambicans, and everything that elevates the country's name beyond borders. In this context, we spoke with the creative director of KINANI, Quito Tembe, co-founder of the platform, who shared his experience of organizing an edition of the Festival amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, which had a direct impact on the performing arts and, in particular, on the life of artists and performers.

KINANI IX: THE "REUNION" The 2021 edition of KINANI – Maputo International Contemporary Dance Platform took place between 23 and 28 No-

vember, bringing together more than 100 professionals from all over the world, including directors of major theatre and dance companies, dancers and international creatives. The organization provided 20 shows, all presented to live audiences. Some were performed in public squares without a stage, but nevertheless surrounded by keen eyes trained on the magical moments that characterized KINANI. "Our objective was to respond to the need for artists to leave their homes and present their work to live audiences, after a long period of confinement", explained Quito Tembe, director of KINANI and also curator of the 9th edition of the Festival.

"We organized KINANI 9 in the midst of uncertainty. Both we (the organization) and the public didn't know what to expect, and that had never happened to me as a curator. However, it was a super nice surprise the way we all welcomed the festival". "Reencontro" (“reunion”) is how this edition of the KINANI Festival was named. A reunion between the artist and the stage and his or her audience; of the audience with the artist; and of the lovers of performing arts. "It was very beautiful to see the emotion of the artists on stage, and the emotion of the audiences watching the shows. Therefore, this edition was one of the most special, as we managed to do it, facing head-on all the setbacks imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. We've never felt an energy as vibrant as this one in this edition", he revealed, trying to convey the feeling, describing it in the best way he could.

"In the beginning, in the first editions, we had an average of 3 to 4 professionals (theatre and dance company directors) f rom South Africa, but today we have a range of 100 professionals f rom all over the world. The dimension and importance that this platform has ended up gaining at international level is a source of great satisfaction and pride for us", said Quito Tembe, summing up the evolution of the Festival over the years.

A GATEWAY TO THE WORLD The main objective of the KINANI Festival, according to its mentor, is the professionalization of young choreographers and dancers, as well as their internationalization. "At the risk of sounding pretentious, KINANI is the main gateway to internationalization. The Festival leads to several agreements being signed and several tours created, travelling around the world. A large part of the Mozambican choreographers that go around the world were discovered at or celebrated agreements or were promoted through this event", he stressed. Quito regrets the fact that KINANI is the only place par excellence to promote contemporary national dance. This enthusiastic lover of the performing arts, of modern dance in particular, argues that "more platforms should be created for the development of the performing arts in the country. In just one week, directors of theatre and dance companies f rom all over the world come to Mozambique looking for projects, choreographers or dancers. And the only place they can be found is at KINANI", he said.

WHAT IF KINANI DIDN'T EXIST...?

Quito Tembe has no doubt that without KINANI, contemporary national dance would not be at the place and level it finds itself in today. "What would be the place that could help and contribute to this issue of the professionalization of the arts? From which our professionals would promote their work, sell their work, where would our artists do it?", asks Quito, to later demystify the true spirit of KINANI. "So KINANI, in a way, comes to complement what we could call a possible cultural industry in the country. And because an industry without a market is not an industry, the Festival also contributes, in a way, to the creation of the market.

This fact cannot be ignored," he said, before talking about the process of educating the Festival's audience.

"The greatest difficulty we faced when conceiving KINANI was the education of the public, which was my great dream, my rallying cry. The entire initial phase of this festival was aimed at that", he revealed. "We felt that the Mozambican public was still unaware of contemporary dance, in the sense of thinking about dance, creating dance, the dance that puts thought and creativity above movement. This was still a little unknown", he pondered. In its initial phase, the Festival was entirely geared to the education of the public, according to Quito. The process consisted of agreements with high schools, which lent their halls to KINANI´s participating choreographers for rehearsals. In return, KINANI allowed students to attend rehearsals and promoted seminars with students on contemporary dance. "Students in schools asked simple questions such as: What is this thing called contemporary dance? Why these weird, uncoordinated movements? What is this thing that seems crazy?", he recalled.

The KINANI Festival will celebrate, in 2023, 20 years on the road. Until then, the hope is that the Covid-19 pandemic will have ended, and that dance will continue to be dance, naturally, even if it is possible to transport the movement of the body through technology, because physical contact is what makes us human.

Quito says he solved more than one problem with one stone. "It was very interesting, because it not only helped in educating the audience, but also made the choreographers themselves fearless in f ront of an audience and in conversation with those students, who trained them to speak in public, who trained them to debate about their own art. That helped us a lot," he rejoiced.

hegou o último mês do ano e com ele novas esperanças. Vêm também recordações de um 2021 deveras desafiante, mais um ano de isolamento, de aprendizado e reinvenção. Muitos perderam a batalha contra o vírus que tão grande impacto tem tido nas nossas vidas.

Eles não eram apenas números que ouvíamos na rádio e na TV, eram pais, mães, filhos, irmãos, amigos.

Vidas que foram ceifadas por um inimigo mortal.

Agora estamos em plena 4ª vaga da pandemia, e os receios e incertezas persistem, adiando a materialização da nossa vontade de conviver e de trocar beijos e abraços livremente.

he last month of the year is upon us and brings us renewed hope. There are also memories of a truly challenging 2021, yet another year of isolation, learning and reinvention. Many have lost the battle against the virus that has had such a huge impact on our lives.

They weren't just numbers we heard on radio and TV. They were fathers, mothers, children, brothers, friends. Lives that were taken by a mortal enemy.

We are now in the middle of the 4th wave of the pandemic, and fears and uncertainties persist, delaying the materialization of our desire to live together and freely exchange kisses and embraces.

No ano que termina, enfrentámos, de facto, muitas tristezas e obstáculos, e muitos problemas para a nossa economia com sérias consequências para muitos de nós. Mas também aconteceram coisas boas e com elas aprendemos, sobretudo a sermos resilientes. Se continuamos a ter a bênção da vida – esse bem mais precioso – o melhor é tentarmos vivê-la positivamente. A Xonguila aqui está para ajudar, esforçando-se por apoiar os nossos artistas e empreendedores e por proporcionar alguns momentos de prazer a todos os leitores.

Throughout this year now coming to a close, we faced many sorrows and obstacles, and many problems for our economy, with serious consequences for many of us. But good things also happened and with them we learnt, above all, to be resilient. Should we be so lucky as to continue to have the blessing of life – that most precious possession – we had better try to live it positively. Xonguila is here to help, striving to support our artists and entrepreneurs and to provide some moments of pleasure to all readers.

Nesta edição 43, apresentamos-lhe o Parque Nacional do Rio Chiveve, um projecto pioneiro no país que, para além de oferecer diversos locais de lazer e diversão, garante uma melhor gestão das águas do rio que lhe dá o nome, minimizando as inundações.

Também apresentamos a nova edição do festival KINANI, aquele que é o evento de referência da dança contemporânea moçambicana. No centro da cidade da Beira, no Rio Chiveve, nasceu uma inf ra-estrutura com 4 bacias, cobrindo 47 hectares. Enorme, não só pela sua extensão, mas também pela grandeza que carrega. Chama-se Parque Urbano do Rio Chiveve.

No Rio Chiveve existem mangais, um ecossistema marinho que, à semelhança de muitos existentes ao longo do país, estava a ser destruído por acção humana.

Homens e mulheres arrancavam as plantas e arbustos para vários f ins. O lugar é conhecido como “o pulmão da Beira”, pois a riqueza biológica que ali brota lhe faz merecer esse nome. Quando o Homem actua contra este tipo de biodiversidade, não é só o mangal que sof re, morrem também diversas espécies animais que têm neste ecossistema o seu habitat.

A construção do Parque Urbano do Rio Chiveve teve início em 2017. Passaram sensivelmente cinco anos até à sua conclusão.

Esta inf ra-estrutura foi pensada não só para que sirva de protecção e preservação do mangal, mas também para criar espaços de lazer para a população da Beira.

UM LUGAR REPLETO DE ENCANTOS Não é só o mangal que dá vida ao parque.

Há muitos encantos que o lugar oferece aos seus visitantes. Há um enorme jardim botânico, espaços de recreação para crianças, restaurantes, pequenas lanchonetes, incluindo sorveterias onde as crianças se deliciam com os seus doces gelados. Há campos multiuso para a prática de várias modalidades de desporto, ginásios ao ar livre, um salão de eventos, um pavilhão de lojas e escritórios, um mercado e um centro de exposições. diversidade de encantos se encontra neste parque situado no coração da Beira. Inaugurado em Dezembro de 2020 pelo Presidente Filipe Nyusi, o Parque Urbano do Rio Chiveve é o maior parque urbano em África. Ocupa uma área de 45 mil metros quadrados.

A ARTE TAMBÉM FAZ PARTE DO CARTÃO DE VISITA DO PARQUE A Maria Pinto de Sá foi confiado esse propósito. Foi ela quem arregaçou as mangas e coordenou a aquisição e implantação de todas as obras de arte e de artesanato no parque. Segundo Maria, ali se encontram

cerca de 50 obras de arte e artesanato, e foi por si feita a selecção dos diferentes tipos de obras, bem como os contactos e convites aos artistas. “A minha grande preocupação, quando convidei os diversos artistas, foi que o parque tivesse uma grande variedade de obras e de artistas nacionais representativos da nossa cultura.

Temos, por exemplo, um grande mural do artista consagrado Sitoe, e murais pintados do beirense Alex Dunduro e de mais jovens, como Hotélio, Afro Ivan e Kassiano. Um baixo-relevo em mármore do mestre Idasse, e vários painéis cerâmicos de João Donato.

Dada a ligação da nossa cidade, principalmente através do seu porto, com o vizinho Zimbabwe, também não nos esquecemos de convidar artistas desse país, e assim podemos ver no parque esculturas em pedra e muitos animais em ferro (elefantes, girafas. rinocerontes e outros)”.

O Parque Urbano do Rio Chiveve foi erguido com financiamento do Banco Mundial e do Governo alemão (KFW), com uma contribuição de 50 por cento cada. A entidade que o tutela é o Município da Beira.

Mangroves abound in the Chiveve River, a marine ecosystem that, like many others throughout the country, was being gradually destroyed by human action. Men and women uprooted plants and bushes for various purposes. The place is known as “the lung of Beira”, a well-deserved name after the biological richness that springs f rom there. When Man acts against this type of biodiversity, it is not only the mangrove that suffers, but also several animal species whose habitat is this ecosystem.

Construction of the Chiveve River Urban Park began in 2017. It took approximately five years to complete. This infrastructure was designed not only to protect and preserve the mangroves, but also to create leisure spaces for the population of Beira. Maria Pinto de Sá, coordinator of art and crafts at the Park, showed us the complexity of this heritage: “Before thinking about preservation, it was necessary to replant the mangroves and give a lot of life to this lung of the city”, she confided.

The Chiveve River Urban Park was built with funding from the World Bank and the German Government (KFW), with a contribution of 50 percent each. The entity that manages it is the Municipality of Beira.

A PLACE FULL OF CHARMS It's not just the mangroves that bring life to the park. There are many charming offerings available to visitors. There is a huge botanical garden, play areas for children, restaurants and small snack bars, including ice cream parlors where children enjoy their frozen sweets. There are multipurpose fields for the practice of various sports, outdoor gyms, an events hall, a pavilion for shops and offices, a market and an exhibition centre. The list also includes about 7km of wooden walkways and a bicycle path. All this charming diversity can be found in this park located at the heart of Beira. Inaugurated in December 2020 by President Filipe Nyusi, the Chiveve River Urban Park is the largest urban park in Af rica. It occupies an area of 45 thousand square meters.

Whiskypiri Malhangalene's best kept secret

The formula is as secret as Coca-Cola´s, or that of Pastéis de Belém, and there have been several attempts to replicate this piri-piri (chilli) sauce, without success.

Germannie (Gerry) has always been passionate about Mozambican cuisine and, of course, also fond of the national spicy elixir.

In the get-togethers she organized at home for f riends, it was common for some to take “takeaways” with them, to take a little of her piri-piri sauce back home with them. The demand was such that it made her take the next step: to improve her product, making it truly stand out from the rest of the market.

conceito da TELA nasceu em 2020, quando os centros culturais e principais galerias de arte em Moçambique se juntaram para criar um colectivo de promotores das artes visuais moçambicanas, concebendo uma plataforma digital para catalogar, arquivar e divulgar os artistas, exposições e promotores de artes plásticas do país. Seguiu-se a oportunidade de obter um fundo de apoio a este tipo de iniciativas proporcionado pela União Europeia, altura em que a UX se juntou ao projecto, apoiando-o na proposta técnica de criação da plataforma digital. O desenvolvimento da plataforma decorreu já em 2021, bem como, a 9 de Dezembro, na Fundação Fernando Leite Couto, na cidade de Maputo, a colecta dos conteúdos iniciais para o seu lançamento.

A estrutura da plataforma é bastante sim-

ples: existem 3 tipos de repositórios: artistas, exposições e promotores. No que respeita aos artistas e às exposições, existem categorias de conteúdo consoante os tipos de artes visuais, isto é, desenho, fotografia, escultura, digital, entre outros. O repositório de artistas já conta, neste momento, com 25 perfis (para cada artista, uma biografia, o percurso artístico, a lista de exposições feitas e um leque variado de informação adicional). Por sua vez, o repositório de exposições, apresenta 19 exposições (incluindo fotos das obras, descrição de cada exposição e outras informações sobre as mesmas). Os artistas patentes na plataforma têm também uma exposição publicada, sendo a ideia que os utilizadores possam conhecer melhor o artista, previamente à apreciação das suas obras durante a visita à plataforma. Finalmente, o repositório de promotores contém páginas de perfil de cada centro cultural ou galeria que faz

Apresenta também galerias de imagens das exposições, além de que irá permitir a captura de informação sobre os conteúdos mais visitados, as categorias mais partilhadas, de modo que se crie informação sobre a oferta e demanda das artes visuais no país, o que pode ajudar na tomada de decisões para a promoção das artes e a formação de artistas.

The structure of this platform is quite simple.

There are three main archive categories: artists, exhibitions and promoters. With regard to artists and exhibitions, there are content categories depending on the type of visual art, that is to say: drawing, photography, sculpture and digital, among others. The artists' repository already has 25 prof iles (each containing, per artist, a biography, their artistic path, a list of exhibitions they participated in, and a wide range of additional information). The exhibition repository, in turn, presents 19 exhibitions (including photos of the works, description of each exhibition and other information about them). Artists on the platform also appear in at least one exhibition (or held a solo one), the idea being that users can get to know the artist better, prior to the appreciation of his works during the visit to the platform. Finally,

the promoters' repository contains prof ile pages for each cultural centre or gallery that is part of the TELA collective, namely: Fundação Fernando Leite Couto, Galeria Kulungwana, Galeria 16Neto, Centro Cultural Franco-Moçambicano, Centro Cultural Moçambicano-Alemão, Camões - Centro Cultural Português and the Spanish Embassy / Cooperação Espanhola.

TELA is a dynamic platform, available in desktop and mobile versions, on which participating promoters make monthly contributions with new content f rom artists and exhibitions, which are made publicly available on the internet and f reely accessible to all. The objective is to create a public archive of the best visual arts output this country has to offer, in order to promote the national creative industry both locally and abroad.

Over time, it is also intended to promote the discovery of new talent and create a way to channel the best emerging artists to those who can help them promote their work in the global arts scene.

The platform has content sharing features, which allow users to "viralise" the artists and exhibitions they like the most. It also features image galleries f rom the exhibitions, in addition to allowing data capture about the most visited content, the most shared categories, so as to generate supply and demand data of the visual arts in the country, which can help in decision-making for the promotion of the arts and artists training.

he TELA concept was born in 2020, when the cultural centres and main art galleries in Mozambique came together to create a collective of Mozambican visual arts promoters, designing a digital platform that aims to catalogue, archive and promote artists, exhibitions and visual arts promoters in the country. This was followed by the opportunity to obtain a European Union grant that supports this kind of initiative, at which point the company UX joined the project, assisting with the technical proposal for the creation of the digital platform.

The development of the platform took place in 2021, as did the data collection of the initial content for its launch. This data collection took place at the Fernando Leite Couto Foundation, in Maputo city, on December 9th.

riado pelos avós, Yuck Miranda, de 28 anos de idade, cresceu em ambiente de artistas, tendo como referências a mãe e uma tia, bailarinas. Yuck, homossexual assumido e reconhecido defensor da causa pelos direitos dos membros da comunidade LGBT, sempre teve acesso às artes, pelas quais acabou por se apaixonar e com que mantém um romance duradoiro. Estudou artes cénicas na Escola Primária e Secundária SOS Hermann Gmeiner, em Maputo, e, além destas artes (música, teatro e dança), aprendeu cerâmica, cestaria e corte e costura,

o que alavancou a sua paixão e entusiasmo pela representação e dramatização, transformando-o no artista polivalente que hoje é. "Desde que me conheço como gente que me percebo artista. Comecei a envolver-me com o teatro aos quatro anos.

Comecei a estudar teatro na infância e a fazer peças na escola aos sete anos", partilhou. "Nessa altura eu já tinha a certeza do que queria fazer. Frequentei todas aquelas disciplinas artísticas da primeira à sétima classe.

Quando saí da SOS, fui para o ensino público, onde não havia muitas disciplinas artísticas.

cultura na escola para transmitir a minha bagagem cultural e dar continuidade à minha aprendizagem nas artes". Em 2010, Yuck começa a trabalhar com companhias de relevo de Maputo, dando assim início ao seu processo de prof issionalização. Foi actor prof issional na Companhia de Teatro Luarte, onde se desenvolveu, antes de se juntar à já histórica e reputada companhia Mutumbela Gogo. Hoje formado pela Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, diz o seguinte de si: "Não sou, necessariamente, um artista da dança. A dança é uma coisa muito recente no meu percur-

A luta pela defesa dos direitos humanos, e da comunidade LGBT (Lésbicas, Gays, Bissexuais, Transgénero) de forma particular, é o que def ine a vida do experiente actor e performer de dança moçambicano Yuck Miranda, nascido em Maputo. Este artista multidisciplinar, que se considera activista em todos os momentos da sua vida, seja no palco ou fora dele, conversou com a Revista Xonguila e partilhou a sua experiência artística, intrinsecamente ligada à sua causa humanista.

ZITA: UMA HISTÓRIA (SUR) REAL 'Zita', apresentada pela primeira vez em 2019, no Festival Kinani, é uma peça que resulta do trabalho de investigação do Projecto Identidades Não Identif icadas, trabalho que visa revelar, através de performances, as narrativas e dilemas dos membros da comunidade LGBTIQ+ (evolução da sigla 'LGBT' para englobar as diversas minorias sexuais e de género) e

que continua em fase de investigação. Nele Yuck aborda narrativas inéditas de pessoas que sof reram tentativas de homicídios em espaços (ditos) seguros, de pessoas que sof reram ataques homofóbicos, e discute as políticas inacessíveis em países denominados seguros para a aquela comunidade. "Este é um dos meus projectos de vida, e ele surge de uma experiência muito própria que eu vivi em Moçambique sendo uma pessoa LGBT", revelou. O Projecto envolve entrevistas a um grupo de pessoas que têm sido sistematicamente discrimina-

das, marginalizadas e excluídas quando se trata do exercício dos seus direitos humanos, devido à falta de reconhecimento da sua identidade.

"Decidi recolher histórias em países considerados seguros para a pessoa LGBT. Fiz o meu primeiro estudo em Moçambique, concretamente em Nampula, onde entrevistei várias pessoas LGBT. Uma das histórias inspirou a primeira peça teatral do Projecto, Zita".

Yuck questiona a dita tolerância moçambicana (e não só) no que diz respeito à homossexualidade ou às pessoas LGBT e considera-a "ambígua". "Tento reflectir dentro das 'Identidades Não-identif icadas' esse lugar. Haverá no mundo um lugar seguro para a comunidade LGBT? O que estamos a querer dizer quando nós dizemos que há um espaço seguro?", questiona. "Se eu for atacado por ser uma pessoa LGBT alguém me protege? Eu já vivi na pele essa experiência e senti que não tive assistência, e ouvi também de muitas histórias de gente que não teve acesso às estruturas básicas sociais – os hospitais, a polícia, a justiça –, a meio de um ataque desses", queixou-se. No âmbito do Projecto, Yuck colheu mais de 100 histórias, no nosso país e, igualmente, no estrangeiro, retratando os dilemas que a comunidade LGBT enf renta no mundo.

UMA 'CAUSA' (RE)CONHECIDA, MAS...

"A falta de reconhecimento da identidade das pessoas LGBTIQ+ torna-as não identidades e, portanto, não sujeitos de direito, o que contribui para a falta de medidas que têm de ser postas em prática para assegurar a identif icação de tais identidades e a garantia dos respectivos direitos", explicou Yuck Miranda o escopo do Projecto.

Yuck esteve recentemente em Paris, em França, desenvolvendo a fase de pesquisa para o seu projecto de vida, Identidades Não Identif icadas, centrado em narrativas de membros LGBTIQ+ de diferentes países de todo o mundo, antes da eclosão da pandemia em Moçambique. "Eu sou activista em todos os momentos e todos os dias, seja no palco, seja fora dele. O activismo não é um casaco que a gente veste e, quando chega a casa, coloca numa espécie de bengaleiro. O activismo é a minha vivência diária", f risou. "A arte é um lugar de liberdade, se a arte não tem liberdade não é arte. Então é sobre as liberdades, sobre os silêncios, sobre o que dizem os silêncios sociais, que meu trabalho actua. Quero dar vozes a esses silêncios porque a arte é um lugar livre", referiu.

Para além de Moçambique, Yuck Miranda já actuou e dirigiu diversos trabalhos colectivos e/ou individuais em vários países, designadamente França, Portugal, Noruega, Suécia, Ruanda, Zimbabué e Áf rica do Sul. Em Outubro de 2021, foi galardoado com o 'Prémio Prince Claus', na categoria Semente, pelo trabalho engajado que desenvolve em prol da defesa dos direitos humanos. "Ser reconhecido por uma fundação como a Prince Claus, que vem f inanciando a cultura no mundo inteiro, dá-me imensa alegria", disse com orgulho. “O ganho deste prémio não é só um ganho meu, é um ganho para outros artistas. Acredito que, com este prémio, muitas portas se vão abrir para a nova geração de artistas moçambicanos, em particular, e af ricanos, de forma geral", concluiu. O Prémio possibilita um fundo, através do qual o artista laureado poderá desenvolver um projecto no sector das artes e cultura.

Yuck Miranda and his fight for the Rights of the "Unidentified" Written by:

Jaime Álvaro The struggle to defend human rights, and the LGBT community (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) in particular, is what defines the life of the seasoned Mozambican actor and dance performer Yuck Miranda, born in Maputo. This multidisciplinary artist, who considers himself an activist in every moment of his life, whether on stage or off, spoke with Xonguila magazine and shared his artistic experience, intrinsically linked to his humanist cause.

Raised by his grandparents, 28-yearold Yuck Miranda grew up in an artistic environment, having as references his mother and aunt, both dancers. Yuck, who is openly homosexual and a known advocate for the rights of members of the LGBT community, has always had access to the arts, with which he ended up falling in love and with which he maintains a lasting romance. He studied performing arts at the SOS Hermann Gmeiner Primary and Secondary School in Maputo and, in addition to these arts (music, theater and dance), learnt ceramics, basketry and sewing, which leveraged his passion and enthusiasm for acting and dramatization, transforming him into the versatile artist he is today. "I´ve known myself to be an artist since I know myself as a person. I began my involvement with theatre at the age of four. I started studying theatre as a child and doing plays at

school at the age of seven", he shared.

"At that point I was already sure of what I wanted to do. I attended all those arts subjects from grade 1 to 7. When I left SOS, I went to a public school, where there weren't many art subjects. So I decided to found culture groups at the school to share my cultural background and continue my learning in the arts". In 2010, Yuck starts working with important theatre companies in Maputo, thus initiating his professionalization process. He was a professional actor at Companhia de Teatro Luarte, where he developed his craft before joining the historic and renowned company Mutumbela Gogo. Now a graduate of the Eduardo Mondlane University, he says the following about himself: "I'm not necessarily a dance artist.

Dance is a very recent thing in my artistic career. I'm more of a theater artist who dares to work with dance performance".

ZITA: A (SUR)REAL STORY Zita, presented for the first time in 2019 at the Kinani Festival, is a piece that results f rom the research work done for the Projecto Identidades Não Identificadas (“Unidentified Identities Project”), a work that aims to reveal, through various performances, the narratives and dilemmas of members of the LGBTQI+ community (an evolution the acronym LGBT to encompass the various sexual and gender minorities), and which is still under investigation. In it, Yuck addresses unpublished narratives of people who have suffered assassination attempts in (so-called) safe spaces, of people who have suffered homophobic attacks, and discusses inaccessible policies in countries deemed safe for that community. "This is one of my lifelong projects, and it comes from a very unique experience I lived through in Mozambique as a LGBT person", he revealed. The Project involves interviews with a group of people who have been systematically discriminated, marginalized and excluded when it comes to exercising their human rights, due to a lack of recognition of their identity.

"I decided to collect stories in countries considered safe for LGBT people.

I did my first study in Mozambique, specifically in Nampula, where I interviewed several LGBT people. One of the stories inspired the Project's first play, Zita".

Mozambique is one of the three countries on the African continent "most tolerant of homosexuality", according to data from an Afrobarometer report, which analyzed 33 African countries. Yuck questions the so-called Mozambican (and others) tolerance towards homosexuality or LGBT people and considers it "ambiguous". "I try to reflect within the 'Unidentified Identities' of that place.

Is there a safe place in the world for the LGBT community? What are we saying when we say there is a safe space?", he asks. "If I am attacked for being a LGBT person, will someone protect me? I have lived through this experience and felt that I had no assistance, and I also heard many stories of people who did not have access to basic social structures – hospitals, police , justice – in the

middle of such an attack," he complained. As part of the Project, Yuck collected more than 100 stories, in our country and also abroad, portraying the dilemmas that the LGBT community faces around the world.

A (RE)KNOWN 'CAUSE', BUT...

"The lack of recognition of the identity of LGBTQI+ people makes them non-identities and therefore not subjects of law, which contributes to the lack of measures that have to be put in place to ensure the identification of such identities and guarantee their respective rights", explained Yuck Miranda, about the scope of the Project.

Yuck was recently in Paris, France, developing the research phase for his life´s project, Unidentified Identities, centered on narratives by LGBTQI+ members from different countries around the world, before the outbreak of the pandemic in Mozambique. "I am an activist every moment and every day, whether on stage or off. Activism is not a coat that we wear and when we get home, put it in a kind of cloakroom.

Activism is my daily life", he stressed.

"Art is a place of freedom. If art doesn’t have freedom, it´s not art. So it is about freedoms, about silences, about what social silences say, that my work acts on. I want to give voice to these silences because art is a free place", he said.

In addition to Mozambique, Yuck Miranda has performed and directed several collective and/or individual works in several countries, including France, Portugal, Norway, Sweden, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and South Africa. In October 2021, he was awarded the Prince Claus Prize, in the Seed category, for the committed work he develops in defense of human rights. "Being recognized by a foundation like Prince Claus, which has been funding culture around the world, gives me immense joy," he said proudly. “Winning this award is not just my own gain, it's a gain for other artists. I believe that with this award, many doors will open up to the new generation of Mozambican artists, in particular, and Africans in general", he concluded. The Award provides a grant, through which the laureate artist can develop a project in the arts and culture sector.

Nele participaram os artistas Kloro, Mark Exodus, Mukhosse, Muzila, Allan, King Cizzy, D j lelo & Drkapa, D j Stel, D j Supaman, DJ Leo, D j Rocha, D j Kiko e Mr Hands e foi incrível aceitação que mereceu do público.

Todas as medidas de prevenção contra a covid-19 foram observadas. Para além da constante higienização do espaço, foram realizados testes rápidos à entrada, e somente aqueles que apresentaram resultado negativo puderam participar no evento.

Fiquem atentos às novidades que iremos anunciar para breve. Jameson City Takeover The Jameson City Takeover is an event that seeks to provide a complete experience, based on the 5 pillars of the Jameson brand: music, bond & connect (games), barbershop, artisan crafts, and gourmet junk food. It was held in two parts, on December 11th, at the Multi Hotel da Matola and, on December 18th, at the Desportivo Club in Maputo city. Participating artists included Kloro, Mark Exodus, Mukhosse, Muzila, Allan, King Cizzy, Dj lelo & Drkapa, Dj Stel, Dj Supaman, DJ Leo, Dj Rocha, Dj Kiko and Mr Hands, and the event was exceptionally well received by the public.

All preventive measures against

Covid-19 were observed. In addition to the constant cleaning of the space, rapid tests were carried out at the entrance and only those who had a negative result were able to take part in the event.

Did you know that there is a Mozambican startup creating modern and affordable eye wear?

The opportunity arose when Celso Ferreira, the brand's founder, noticed that our society does not have affordable solutions to help those with sight problems. Taking into account the low income of a large part of our population, he decided to create an affordable product that would f ill this gap and contribute to improving the lives of Mozambican citizens. That's how Zambezi Eyewear was born, a 100% national start-up that produces sandalwood spectacle f rames, prepared to receive prescription lenses or sun protection lenses. A solution that is different f rom what the market offers, with a modern and appealing design that is comfortable on the wearer.

Celso Ferreira is a young, 29-year-old Mozambican who has vitiligo, an illness characterized by the loss of skin color, f requently resulting in body image insecurities for those who have it. It was this skin condition, and f inding his inner voice, that encouraged Celso to create the brand and share with society the sentiment that life is above appearances, that self-acceptance is fundamental, and that our limitations or individual characteristics should not create barriers, prevent us f rom taking steps in the world of entrepreneurship or limit the creative process.

Celso's start-up, Zambezi Eyewear, believes that before developing, creating or starting something, one must discover a uniqueness, an essence. The more enlightened one is about the path to follow, the better the choices and decisions to become exclusive and unique will be. For the future, it intends to improve its eff iciency, provide a more personalized service and form intelligent partnerships, associating the brand with quality products and innovative and creative ideas, and combining prof it with social responsibility. “Vivemos com ambições e perspectivas comuns inacessíveis do outro lado por várias razões, mas a covid tornou essa falta de descarga um grito colectivo. Do outro lado da janela do lockdown ou do outro lado da vida dos que se foram.... talvez seja um pouco mórbido o estado latente em que esta nova forma de estar na sociedade, o enjaulamento distanciado. ... como tudo é dual yang ying vamos colorir e festejar neste lado dos sobreviventes mascarados na incerteza...

Do outro lado da Vida que passou por nós, os sobreviventes do covil... foi o outro lado da janela e do outro lado ar que não respiramos... do outro lado dos sentimentos que agora não podíamos apalpar sem luvas de álcool. É um momento inspirado no livro de Nietzsche, uma análise de psicanálise "Quando Nietzsche

chorou" .... ele é analisado por Freud. Tento não deixar cair a inexistência e a falta desta identidade do outro no vácuo.

Estou a sonhar e aparece no meu sonho uma pessoa que está a trabalhar comigo nesta experiência e no sonho aparecem macacos azuis com aparência diferente e que falavam numa língua estranha. A minha colega tinha medo e eu disse: estamos num sonho criativo, estes macacos são nossa invenção…. dentro do sonho estive dos dois lados da mesma página .... é possível. Viagem emocional com efeito de metáfora que nos leva a um sentimento de que, durante a pandemia, o nosso tempo tenha sido vida roubada. Tentei que a narrativa não fosse regular, mas o sonho no meio de tudo é sempre abstracto.”

“We live with shared ambitions and perspectives inaccessible from the other side, for various reasons, but Covid has turned that lack of release into a collective cry. On the other side of the lockdown window, or on the other side of the lives of those who have gone... perhaps this state of latency in which this new way of being in society is, is a bit morbid, this distanced imprisonment… as everything is dual and yang ying, let's colour and celebrate on this side of the survivors, masked in uncertainty...

On the other side of the Life that passed us by, the survivors of the lair... it was the other side of the window and the other side of the air we didn't breathe... the other side of the feelings that we couldn't touch now without alcohol gloves.

It is a moment inspired by Nietzsche's book, an analysis of psychoanalysis – "When Nietzsche wept" .... he is analysed by Freud. I try not to let this nonexistence, and lack of identity in the other, fall into the vacuum.

I am dreaming, and a person appears in my dream who is working with me on this experience, and in the dream appear blue monkeys with a different appearance and speaking a strange language. My colleague was afraid, and I said: we are in a creative dream, these monkeys are our invention…. inside the dream I was on both sides of the same page.... it’s possible. An emotional journey with the effect of a metaphor that leads us to a feeling that, during the pandemic, our time was stolen. I tried to make the narrative irregular, but the dream is, above all, always abstract.”

Recebemos o sorriso de Silvana, através de correio electrónico, de forma especial. No centro da informação europeia, Silvana Ferrão é Engenheira Ambiental e de Sistemas de Informação Geográfica e trabalha como Gestora de Projectos em Tecnologias de Informação, na União Europeia, em Bruxelas. que pauta o seu trabalho, como nos explica: “Lido com tecnologias de informação e inovação ligadas a várias áreas cruciais para o desenvolvimento sustentável. Isto inclui o meio ambiente e os seus recursos, transportes, educação e parcerias internacionais ligando a União Europeia, os estados-membros, estados candidatos e parceiros de diversas regiões - ACP (África, Caribe e Pacífico), Ásia, Américas – entre outros. Além disso, o facto de ter sido colocada na sede da União Europeia, mesmo com a minha nacionalidade estrangeira, algo que não é comum, exige de mim certa responsabilidade”.

O gosto pelas tecnologias chegou cedo. A mãe, professora de química, acabou por despertar nela o interesse pelo mundo científico, ao mesmo que o pai a iniciava na área da tecnologia e a estimulava a procurar mais conhecimento. “Uma das minhas professoras do ensino primário sempre dizia que esse seria o caminho para mim (...). Vim culminar exactamente na área de tecnologias e inovação digital, e tem sido bastante interessante”, partilha.

À responsabilidade, juntam-se os desafios constantes, já que a tecnologia está, hoje em dia, no centro de muitas operações.

Exactamente por isso, Silvana reconhece o interesse comum em prol de um futuro mais sustentável, integrado, de forma que várias nações ajam de acordo com a agenda 2030 dos Objectivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável, para “não deixar ninguém para trás”.

oi aos 22 anos que esta cidadã moçambicana experimentou, pela primeira vez, latitudes diferentes, quando viajou para o norte de Inglaterra para ingressar num Mestrado na Universidade de Leeds. Na altura, foi uma bolsa de estudos da organização Graça Machel Trust, em parceria com a sul-africana Sasol, que lhe permitiu testar os seus limites. We received Silvana's smile, via email, in a special way. At the heart of European information, Silvana Ferrão is an Environmental and Geographic Information Systems Engineer and works as a Project Manager in Information Technologies at the European Union, in Brussels.

It was at 22 years old that this Mozambican citizen experienced different latitudes for the first time, when she travelled to the north of England to enrol in a Masters degree at the University of Leeds. At the time, it was a scholarship from the organization Graça Machel Trust, in partnership with the South African energy company Sasol, that allowed her to test her limits. From there, she crossed the Atlantic Ocean to the United States of America and, more recently, she made the country of Tintin – Belgium – her second permanent residence.

The affinity for technology arrived early. Her mother, a chemistry professor, awoke in her the interest in science, whilst her father simultaneously introduced her to the field of technology and encouraged her to seek more knowledge. “One of my primary school teachers always said that this would be the way for me (...). I ended up precisely in the field of technology and digital innovation, and it has been quite interesting”, she shares.

When we read Silvana's job description, we are, at the very least, deeply impressed by the impact and demand of this 30-year-old's job. Commitment, dedication and responsibility are three critical ingredients of her work, as she explains: “I deal with information and innovation technologies linked to several crucial areas for sustainable development. This includes the environment and its resources, transport, education and inter-

national partnerships linking the European Union, member states, candidate states and partners from different regions - ACP (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific), Asia, Americas – among others. Furthermore, the fact that I was placed at the headquarters of the European Union, despite my foreign nationality – something that´s not common – demands a certain responsibility from me”.

In addition to responsibility, there are constant challenges, as technology is, nowadays, at the heart of many operations. Precisely for this reason, Silvana recognizes the common interest in favor of a more sustainable, integrated future, so that various nations act in accordance with the 2030 agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals, to “not leave anyone behind”.

Although far away, Silvana keeps her radar focused on the national market and has been following the emergence of several initiatives in recent years, starting with digital apps made by Mozambicans to improve the lives of Mozambicans.

She believes in Mozambique's potential in the technological field in such a way that she believes there is a lot of potential to be explored and to innovate: “There must also be encouragement, recognition and more exposure in order to awaken the interest of various other sectors”, she stresses.

But Silvana Ferrão does not stop there. She is currently part of the Graça Machel Alumni Network

(GMAN), an organization formed to help girls and women enter the academic sector, mainly in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, an initiative that has already earned them an award from the Graça Machel Trust Africa. Close to her heart, Silvana has a personal project: “I would also like to be able to implement a mobile digital workshop, in rural areas, in order to give children and young people the opportunity, regardless of their gender, to learn a little more about the digital world, technologies and artificial intelligence. The workshop would be mobile, not only to reduce implementation costs but also to be able to reach more young people over a period of time”, she explains.

At this stage, while Silvana's personal project idea is being developed in the centre of Brussels, are there any interested parties to put it into motion? We and Silvana await.

O

meu sonho desde criança sempre foi ser empresário, ser alguém independente, próspero e capaz de mudar o mundo. Notei, no entanto, que ainda existiam factores que estavam a faltar para colocar as minhas ideias em prática e realmente abrir um negócio, nomeadamente a falta de foco e atitude. Em 2019 participei num curso de simulação empresarial e lá pude aprender como funcionam os negócios na vida real. Quando terminei, decidi desenvolver a minha primeira ideia de negócio e abri a Techsolutions. Uma empresa moçambicana jovem que iria mostrar aos moçambicanos e ao mundo que a tecnologia é a solução para tudo, e que pode facilitar e dinamizar vários processos das nossas vidas.

A Techsolutions está virada para o ramo das tecnologias de informação, onde desenvolve websites, aplicativos móveis, sistemas dinâmicos de gestão, plataformas e, ainda, consultoria em cibersegurança.

mantenhamos o foco e a persistência. O nosso plano é expandir a nossa empresa e lançar os produtos que temos vindo a desenvolver neste ano de 2021 e que nós acreditamos que irão impactar a vida de várias pessoas e realmente provar que a tecnologia pode mudar as nossas vidas.

Moçambique é um país que oferece muitas oportunidades, mas são limitadas. O meu conselho para os jovens é não terem medo de começar, comecem com o que têm, e, aos poucos, procurem descobrir os segredos para crescer no mundo do empreendedorismo e fechar negócios. Os jovens devem ter atitude e não ter medo de ir atrás das coisas e das pessoas.

Techsolutions Edilson Alberto, founder, 17 years old, in his own words

E

ver since I was a child, my dream has always been to become an entrepreneur, to be someone independent, prosperous and capable of changing the world. I noticed, however, that there were still factors missing for me to put my ideas into practice and really start a business, namely a lack of focus and attitude. In 2019, I took part in a business simulation course, and there I was able to learn how business works in real life. After finishing the course, I decided to develop my first business idea and launched Techsolutions – a young Mozambican company that would show Mozambicans and the world that technology is the solution for everything, and that it can facilitate and streamline various processes in our lives.

Techsolutions is focused on information technology products, developing websites, mobile applications, dynamic management systems, platforms and even cybersecurity consultancy. We chose these services because they have an impact on our customers' businesses, as they can significantly help them in improving their processes and stand out in their respective fields. We have participated in various business and sales techniques events.

What we consider having influenced our strategy the most was the Makagui Masterclass, led by Daniel David. At that event, we were able to understand where the company was failing in terms of sales, and what we could do to increase our turnover and fight to perform better in our area.

In our market, there are several business opportunities in different areas. However, it is necessary to understand how to ex-

plore them. I am of the opinion that we should not only look out for them, but also create them, as they will not always come to us – they often have to be created. For the creation of Techsolutions, we didn't make a business plan, we tried to start with what we had, thinking about aspects that would differentiate us in relation to other companies. Recognizing mistakes and being open to criticism is a fundamental characteristic that every entrepreneur must have, as it will help them grow and improve their services. Our biggest challenge so far was having to completely redo an E-commerce project, as it was not to the satisfaction of the end-user. In this project, we learnt that it is important to listen to the client and understand what he really wants.

We are very satisfied that it is not every day that 17-year-olds are able to achieve what we have achieved so far. However, I think we can do a lot more and achieve huge things, as long as we maintain focus and persistence. Our plan is to expand our company and launch the products that we have been developing in the year 2021, that we believe will impact many people's lives and truly prove that technology can change our lives.

Mozambique is a country that offers many opportunities, but they are limited. My advice to young people is: don’t be afraid to start. Start with what you have and, little by little, try to discover the secrets to growing in the world of entrepreneurship and how to close deals. Young people must have attitude and not be afraid to go after things and people.

O grande momento da sua participação foi o desf ile INATUR CHALLENGE, através da Capulana da Marca Moçambique. Trata-se de um novo produto do INATUR, onde foi feita a premiação da Melhor Estilista do INATUR CHALLENGE: Ilda Semedo. Pelo prémio, a estilista ganhou um cheque no valor de 50.000 meticais e o direito a duas noites, para duas pessoas, na estância turística White Pearl Resorts, em Ponta Mamoli. Ilda Semedo foi seleccionada de entre 30 estilistas desaf iados a participar, ao destacar-se como estilista que produziu uma peça comunicativa e cabalmente ilustrativa a nível da promoção do turismo.

MFW supera expectativas e segue em frente pela nova era O Mozambique Fashion Week (MFW) continua a inspirar gerações e a provar que a moda vence barreiras e é resiliente, como o comprometimento da DDB em tornar este evento, na realidade, um marco para a nova era.

Num só espaço, o Indy Village, durante os dias 7 a 11 de Dezembro, o público pôde contemplar desfiles e exposições, participar em feiras e passar momentos únicos numa das maiores passarelas de moda de África.

O lema deste ano foi a continuidade do conceito de 2020.

No entanto, o evento focou-se na realidade do novo normal e na beleza que é ser um ser humano. Foi este o mote para a campanha de responsabilidade social. Cientes de que “Cada ser humano, por ser humano, é bonito”, a acção promove o amor pelas diferenças.

Apesar das restrições impostas pela covid-19, a organização do MFW conseguiu costurar uma semana de moda que superou as expectativas. Os números falam por si: cerca de 60 modelos vestiram peças de mais de 70 estilistas.

INATUR Challenge 2021 at MFW Ilda Semedo wins the Best Stylist Award

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MICULTUR), through the National Institute of Tourism (INATUR) and the National Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries (INICC), participated this year, for the first time, in the Mozambique Fashion Week event.

The Vice-Minister of Culture and Tourism, Fredson Bacar, closed the MFW 2021 with an appeal to DDB and to all promoters of the national fashion industry to be the force of change that the fashion industry needs to become more conscious and sustainable, emphasizing that sustainability is not only found in the good manufacturing practices of fashion items, but also in conscious consumer attitudes and choices: "Opting for less aggressive alternatives for the planet must be the consumer's preferred option. Our fashion industry must offer, encourage and wear the mantle of the change we need to save the planet."

A PÉROLA DE ÁFRICA O documentário A Pérola de África, realizado por Jonny von Wallström, narra a incrível odisseia de Cleópatra Kambugu, uma mulher transgénero de 27 anos natural do Uganda. Nasceu biologicamente com o sexo masculino, mas nunca se sentiu plena e feliz naquele corpo em que se encontrava aprisionada. Contra todas as probabilidades e adversidades, luta com todas as armas que tem ao seu alcance para conseguir tornar-se na linda mulher que sempre sonhou ser.

Trata-se de uma história verídica que fala de amor, ódio e de ser transgénero num local onde ainda reinam mitos e preconceitos homofóbicos, naquele pequeno país sem litoral localizado na parte oriental de África, outrora denominado “a pérola de África” por Winston Churchill, daí o nome do filme. Nesta jornada, acompanhamos todo o processo cirúrgico, a reformulação comportamental e a disputa pelo reconhecimento de uma mulher que é incompreendida na sociedade onde está inserida.

Esta longa-metragem, de 90 minutos, arrecadou prémios internacionais e foi exibida em inúmeros festivais de cinema um pouco por todo o mundo. THE PEARL OF AFRICA The Pearl of Africa, a documentary directed by Jonny von Wallström, chronicles the incredible odyssey of Cleopatra Kambugu, a 27-year-old transgender woman from Uganda. She was born biologically male, but never felt happy and fully herself in that body, which she felt imprisoned her. Against all odds and facing great adversity, she fights with all the means available to her to become the beautiful woman she always dreamt of.

It is a true story that speaks of love, hate and the realities of being transgender in a place where homophobic myths and prejudices still prevail, in that small landlocked country located in the eastern part of Africa, formerly named “the pearl of Africa” by Winston Churchill – hence the title of the movie. On this journey, we follow along the entire surgical process, the behavioral reformulation and the fight for recognition of a woman who is misunderstood by the society she is a part of.

This 90-minute feature film has won international awards and has been screened at numerous film festivals around the world. It is an important reminder of issues such as gender identity, the struggle for equal human rights, freedom, acceptance and respect.
