Consistente e preocupado com os rumos da moda moçambicana, o MFW transformou-se em plataforma de moda, a maior que o país já viu e uma das mais bem estruturadas

MODA PARA SEGUIR EM FRENTE Em 2004, uma iniciativa mostrou que na passarela se pode fazer revolução. Volvidos 17 anos, o Mozambique Fashion Week (MFW) ainda tem a mesma sede de liberdade e luta para quebrar tendências que aprisionam.

Consciente de que o futuro é a moda, a iniciativa segue em frente, e acende as luzes do Montebelo Indy, cidade de Maputo, de 7 a 11 de Dezembro, para deixar desfilar mais de 70 estilistas nacionais e internacionais, entre marcas e young designers. Os números alcançados superam todas as edições. Além da competição dos jovens estilistas, Young Designer, o MFW conta com o Challenge Vodacom, que vai premiar a melhor colecção inspirada no tema Inclusão e Diversidade. O lema para este ano é New Age: Fashion Forward, que dá continuidade ao conceito do ano passado. No entanto, será focado na realidade do novo normal e na beleza que é ser um ser humano.

A GÉNESE DA MODA MOÇAMBICANA Tudo começou no longínquo ano de 2004. Enquanto o mundo desfrutava o quarto ano do século XXI, um grupo de entusiastas acertava os últimos detalhes de um evento que levou o nome de Mozambique Fashion Week (MFW).

A iniciativa ergueu os pilares da indústria da moda em Moçambique, ampliou o mercado para os estilistas existentes e inspirou uma nova vaga de jovens talentosos que fazem a pérola brilhar além do Índico. O MFW sempre mostrou que não é apenas um evento glamoroso, é um ecossistema sustentável para talentos criativos e marcas moçambicanas, permitindo que prosperem na comunidade global.

Consistente e preocupado com os rumos da moda moçambicana, o MFW transformou-se em plataforma de moda, a maior que o país já viu e uma das mais bem estruturadas e com argumentos para ser a melhor de África. Focada na descoberta, incentivo, capacitação e promoção da moda moçambicana, o MFW busca formas de profissionalizar todos os que fazem parte da cadeia, para solidificação da

indústria. Mas não é só para estilistas, modelos e apreciadores de colecções, há também espaço para a música, artes plásticas e gastronomia. O evento envolve marcas, cadeias de hotéis, turismo, e usa a moda para mostrar o melhor de Moçambique ao mundo. O evento impulsionou o nome de estilistas que hoje representam o país além-fronteiras. Os números falam por si, são mais de 30 os estilistas moçambicanos que já fizeram mostras no estrangeiro e participaram em formações pelas mãos do MFW. Devido à plataforma, a “Pérola do Índico” está no mapa da moda mundial, sendo que a iniciativa integra o circuito da Commonwealth Fashion Culture.

RESPONSABILIDADE SOCIAL A componente social é uma das grandes apostas do MFW, que nos anos anteriores foi pioneiro na consciencialização do cancro da mama.

Caras conhecidas, como Sónia Sultuane, Anabela Adrianopoulos, Glória Muianga, Maria José Sacur, entre outras, juntaram-se à causa e desfilaram em prol da causa. As peças envergadas pelas figuras mediáticas foram depois leiloadas e a receita reverteu para o combate àquele mal. O cancro da pele também já mereceu destaque. As questões climáticas já mereceram várias vezes atenção no MFW, através de inúmeras iniciativas e campanhas, como a “Passarela Azul”, em 2015. Na acção foi erguida uma passarela sustentável, construída inteiramente com 5 mil ladrilhos confeccionados com 250 mil tampas de garrafas plásticas. Em 2019, no Dia Mundial da Conservação da Vida Selvagem, foi lançada a campanha Unwanted Fashion. O mote era mostrar que os animais estão a sofrer com a nossa poluição. Por isso, transformou-se o lixo que é despejado nos oceanos em acessórios de moda, e os animais em influenciadores digitais. Além da campanha digital, foi organizada, também, uma exposição de esculturas de animais marinhos, usando materiais reciclados. Ainda no âmbito da acção, foi construída uma árvore de 6 metros, feita com lixo reaproveitado e iluminada com energia de painéis solares. Em resumo: mais de uma tonelada de plástico recolhido do oceano foi usada para estas iniciativas.

Além das questões climáticas, o MFW foi pioneiro ao usar a moda para conscientizar a sociedade sobre vários temas, tais como os Direitos LGBTQ, Violência Doméstica, Tráfico de Crianças, entre outros.

HUMANO É BONITO Provando que a moda é para todos, este ano, mais uma vez, o MFW lança uma campanha de responsabilidade social, com o intuito de

promover o amor pelas diferenças. A ideia é quebrar o estereótipo que diz que a beleza é reflectida por um certo padrão de aparência, que muitas vezes exclui a maioria. Pessoas são obrigadas a deixar de ser o que são para servir os padrões. A iniciativa quer exaltar a auto-estima e conseguir vencer os estereótipos enraizados na indústria da moda. A campanha de responsabilidade social deste ano tem como foco a auto-estima, que reflecte um “Eu Positivo” das pessoas. Com a ajuda de alguns activistas que aceitaram partilhar as suas histórias de superação, o MFW promete ir além da caixa, derrubando padrões impostos pela sociedade para colocar pessoas “socialmente excluídas” a criar uma realização de amor e orgulho pela sua beleza natural. A meta é superar o desafio de criar uma campanha que vai transformar, educar e fazer com que a sociedade acredite, firmemente, que o padrão de beleza é ser feliz ao jeito de cada um, sem julgamentos, porque a auto-estima importa mais do que conceitos de beleza. “O MFW é para seres tu. Então vai e sê! Sê a coragem. A mudança. A evolução.

A moda. Encontra o teu lugar num mundo feito por todos.” A ideia é criar uma realização de amor e orgulho pela beleza natural que se tem, mostrando que cada ser humano, por ser humano, é BONITO.

INOVAR PARA VENCER ADVERSIDADES Em 2020 o caos apresentado em filmes de ficção científica, como a longa-metragem “Contagion”, que retrata o cenário apocalíptico causado por um vírus respiratório, saiu das telas e incorporou-se nas vidas de milhares de pessoas que viram as suas vidas em colapso. No mundo dos negócios, muitas empresas faliram, a taxa de desemprego aumentou e a economia mundial ficou em quarentena. Nas artes, vários eventos foram adiados e as plataformas digitais foram a alternativa para a manutenção da vida social do planeta. Moçambique também se ressentiu. No entanto, o Mozambique Fashion Week tem o orgulho de demonstrar que superou o ano que derrubou muitas iniciativas, marcas e empresas. Com a cabeça erguida, a maior plataforma de moda nacional reinventou-se e realizou a sua 16ª edição. Com a experiência de 2020, este ano, mais uma vez, a organização do MFW está comprometida com a segurança e bem-estar da equipa, dos estilistas, modelos e convidados, pelo que todas as medidas recomendadas pelas autoridades de saúde estão asseguradas no local dos desfiles, e todas as acções serão transmitidas através dos meios tradicionais e plataformas digitais. A realização da 17ª edição do MFW é prova de resiliência, uma virtude que é própria dos seres humanos que, em situações difíceis, não desanimam e dão a volta por cima.

FASHION TO MOVE ON In 2004, an initiative showed that a revolution can be made on the catwalk.

17 years later, Mozambique Fashion Week (MFW) still has the same thirst for freedom and fights to break the tendencies that attempt to imprison it.

Aware that fashion is the future, the initiative forges ahead and turns on the lights of Montebelo Indy, Maputo City, from December 7th to 11th, to show more than 70 national and international stylists, including brands and young designers. The numbers achieved surpass all editions. In addition to the Young Designer competition for young stylists, the MFW has the Challenge Vodacom, which will award the best collection inspired by the theme of Inclusion and Diversity. The motto for this year is New Age: Fashion Forward, which continues last year's concept. However, it will be focused on the reality of the new normal and the beauty of being a human being.

THE GENESIS OF MOZAMBICAN FASHION It all started in the distant year of 2004. As the world enjoyed the fourth year of the 21st century, a group of enthusiasts worked out the last details of an event that took the name of Mozambique Fashion Week (MFW). The initiative created the foundations of the fashion industry in Mozambique, expanded the market for existing stylists and inspired a new wave of talented young people who make the pearl shine beyond the Indian Ocean (a play on the well-known expression, “Maputo, the pearl of the Indian Ocean”). MFW has always shown that it is not just a glamorous event, it is a sustainable ecosystem for creative talent and Mozambican brands, allowing them to thrive in the global community. Consistent and concerned with the direction of Mozambican fashion, the MFW has become a fashion platform, the largest the country has ever seen and one of the best structured and arguably the best in Africa. Focused on discovering, encouraging, training and promoting Mozambican fashion, the MFW seeks ways to professionalize everyone in the production chain, in order to solidify the industry. But is not an event solely for stylists, models and collectors. There's also space for music, fine arts and gastronomy. The event involves brands, hotel chains, tourism, and uses fashion to show the best of Mozambique to the world. The event boosted the name of stylists who today represent the country across borders. The numbers speak for themselves, there are more than 30 Mozambican stylists who have already exhibited abroad and participated in training courses through MFW. Because of this platform, the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean” is on the fashion world map, and the initiative is part of the Commonwealth Fashion Culture circuit.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY The social component is one of the great investments of the MFW, which in previous years was a pioneer in raising awareness of breast cancer. Well-known faces like Sónia Sultuane, Anabela Adrianopoulos, Glória Muianga, Maria José Sacur, among others, joined the cause and marched in support of the cause. The pieces worn by the media figures were later auctioned and the revenue reverted to combating that evil. Skin cancer has also been highlighted. Climate issues have already deserved attention several times at the MFW, through numerous initiatives and campaigns, such as the “Passarela Azul” in 2015. A sustainable walkway was built during the action, built entirely with 5 thousand tiles made with 250 thousand plastic bottle caps. In 2019, on World Wildlife Conservation Day, the Unwanted Fashion campaign was launched. The motto was to show that animals are suffering from our pollution. Therefore, the garbage that is dumped in the oceans was transformed into fashion accessories, and animals into digital influencers. In addition to the digital campaign, an exhibition of sculptures of marine animals was also organized, using recycled materials. Also within the scope of the action, a 6-metre tree was built, made from reused garbage and lit with energy from solar panels. In sum: more than a ton of plastic collected from the ocean was used for these initiatives.

In addition to climate issues, the MFW was a pioneer in using fashion to raise awareness in society on various topics, such as LGBTQ Rights, Domestic Violence, Child Trafficking, among others.

HUMAN IS BEAUTIFUL Proving that fashion is for everyone, this year, once again, the MFW launches a social responsibility campaign, with the aim of promoting a love for difference. The idea is to break the stereotype that beauty is reflected by a certain standard of appearance, which often excludes the majority. People are forced to stop being what they are in order to serve the standards. The initiative seeks to enhance self-esteem and overcome stereotypes ingrained in the fashion industry. This year's social responsibility cam-

paign focuses on self-esteem, which reflects a “Positive Self” of people. With the help of some activists who agreed to share their overcoming stories, the MFW promises to go outside the box, overturning society-imposed standards to get “socially excluded” people to create a realization of love and pride in their own natural beauty. The goal is to meet the challenge of creating a campaign that will transform, educate and make society firmly believe that the standard of beauty is to be happy in your own way, without judgment, because self-esteem matters more than beauty concepts.

“The MFW is supposed to be you. So go and be! Be the courage. The change. The evolution. The fashion. Find your place in a world made by everyone.” The idea is to create a realization of love and pride for the natural beauty that one has, showing that every human being, in being human, is BEAUTIFUL. INNOVATE TO OVERCOME ADVERSITY In 2020, the chaos presented in science fiction films, such as the feature film “Contagion”, which portrays the apocalyptic scenario caused by a respiratory virus, left the screen and became part of the lives of thousands of people who saw their lives collapse.

In the business world, many companies have gone bankrupt, the unemployment rate has soared, and the world economy has been quarantined. In the arts, several events were postponed and digital platforms were the alternative for maintaining the planet's social life. Mozambique also suffered. However, Mozambique Fashion Week is proud to demonstrate that it surpassed the year that brought down many initiatives, brands and companies. With its head held high, the largest national fashion platform reinvented itself and held its 16th edition. With the experience of 2020, this year, once again, the MFW organization is committed to the safety and well-being of the team, stylists, models and guests, so that all measures recommended by the health authorities are strictly observed on site of the shows, and all actions will be broadcast through traditional media and digital platforms. In holding its 17th edition, MFW proves its resilience, a virtue that is characteristic of human beings who, in difficult situations, do not get discouraged and come out on top.

Estimado leitor,

Dear Reader,

Chegámos ao mês de Novembro, e já vemos o Natal e o f im do ano no horizonte. Estamos no verão, que desejamos traga consigo novos ares, sorrisos, amores, felicidade e paz.

We´ve reached November, and can already see Christmas and New Year´s on the horizon. It is now summer, and we wish it brings us a breath of f resh air, smiles, loves, happiness and peace.

À semelhança do mês de Outubro, em que decorreu a campanha Outubro Rosa, temos agora a Novembro Azul, movimento inicialmente presente em 21 países e que vai ganhando terreno um pouco por todo o mundo. O seu principal objectivo é alertar para a necessidade de prevenção do cancro da próstata, o mais comum entre os homens. Novembro é também o mês em que se apela ao mundo que se manifeste contra um outro mal: a violência contra as mulheres. Laranja é a cor que assinala a adesão a esse movimento, que já chegou também a Moçambique, e que se vai prolongar até ao dia 10 de Dezembro.

Similarly to the month of October, in which the Pink October campaign took place, we now have Blue November, a movement initially present in 21 countries and gaining ground all over the world. Its main objective is to raise awareness of the need to prevent prostate cancer, the most common among men. November is also the month when the world is called on to speak out against another evil: violence against women. Orange is the colour that signals the adherence to this movement, which has already reached Mozambique, and which will last until the 10th of December.

Neste número da revista, 42, visitamos a Alcance Editores, uma editora que há 15 anos vem fazendo um trabalho notável no domínio dos livros escolares e na promoção e divulgação da nossa literatura. Aqui se encontra também a mais recente edição do MFW, cujo lema deste ano foi New Age: Fashion Forward, dando continuidade do conceito do ano transacto. Conversámos com Horácio Macuácua, que nos revelou interessantes momentos da sua carreira como coreógrafo e bailarino e apresentamos-lhe ainda o Kubhula, os podcasts que mais dão que falar na nossa praça.

In this 42nd edition of the magazine, we visit Alcance Editores, a publisher that for 15 years has been doing a remarkable job in the f ield of school books and in the promotion and dissemination of our literature. Here you will also f ind the most recent edition of the MFW, whose motto this year was New Age: Fashion Forward, continuing last year's concept. We spoke with Horácio Macuácua, who revealed interesting moments in his career as a choreographer and dancer, and also introduce you to Kubhula, the podcast that is most talked about around town. We challenge you to turn the page and discover the other editorial pieces we created for you.

“Ao partilharmos histórias, abrimos espaço para encontrarmos e nos focarmos nas semelhanças, ao invés de nas diferenças” -Márcio Luiz, co-fundador

Kubhula é uma palavra da língua changana que signif ica conversar. Não dizemos que uma boa conversa seja uma panaceia para todas as dif iculdades e desaf ios possíveis, mas acreditamos piamente que ajuda a apontar na direcção correcta, no mínimo!

Ao nomearmos o podcast assim, foi com a intenção de que este nome representasse essa comunicação interactiva, mas borrifada com a nossa moçambicanidade. Nos dias de hoje, por mil e dois motivos, temos mais conversas virtuais do que presenciais, e a conversa de onde surgiu a ideia de criar um podcast não foge a essa regra.

Foi em 2018, num pequeno grupo de WhatsApp de amigos chegados, mas separados pela distância, expostos a uma multiplicidade de ambientes, o que muitas vezes desperta uma maior variedade - e qualidade - de ideias, que começámos a namorar a possibilidade de criarmos um podcast. Nem sempre é fácil interligar a parte prof issional das nossas vidas com actividades não prof issionais, mas o Kubhula é um projecto que ocupa e irá para sempre ocupar um lugar especial nos nossos corações, pois existe uma relação de reciprocidade muito bem vincada entre nós e, a cada episódio, ela torna-se mais forte e recompensadora. Esta perspectiva torna todas as fases do processo de criação (produzir, agendar, gravar, editar, publicar, etc.) um pouco menos complexas. Como já dizia o velho

ditado, quem corre por gosto não se cansa!

Podcast é a junção de duas palavras: iPod e broadcasting - esta última originária do mundo da rádio. Apesar de existirem diferenças consideráveis entre estes dois “media”, o combinar a influência e cultura de rádio - que é signif icativa a nível das bases em todo o nosso continente af ricano, tendo um alcance incomparável – com o omnipresente telefone celular e acesso a tecnologias modernas que este facilita faz com que exista um sweet spot onde o Kubhula e o seu conteúdo vivem.

Ora, as histórias “made in moz” criam ligações entre a nossa identidade pessoal e a do nosso país e têm a capacidade de influenciar e reforçar o senso de individualidade de cada um de nós. Cada uma destas narrativas proporciona-nos

um melhor contexto, um contexto que nos ajuda a entender melhor a sociedade onde estamos inseridos e, ao mesmo tempo, nos dá diferentes tipos de recursos que podemos usar para construir as nossas próprias histórias. Ao partilharmos histórias, abrimos espaço para encontrarmos e nos focarmos nas semelhanças, ao invés de nas diferenças, forjarmos ligações entre pessoas e ideias, e, em simultâneo, criarmos condições e soluções para que, juntos, possamos ajudar o nosso jovem país a chegar onde sabemos que pode chegar.

Sempre fomos fãs deste formato, como também ouvintes de vários podcasts, mas, infelizmente, grande parte do que há disponível online, apesar de interessante e de muito boa qualidade, é conteúdo de fora do nosso país, com o qual

não temos um envolvimento emocional que nos faça sentir que é connosco e para nós que estão a falar. Foi esta necessidade intrínseca de nos sentirmos conectados com as pessoas e histórias da nossa terra, e acharmos que de certeza haveria mais gente a sentir o mesmo, que foi e continua a ser a nossa motivação. Na Áf rica Ocidental existe o termo “griot”, que consiste num indivíduo responsável por absorver e transmitir história, cultura e memórias ancestrais de geração para geração. Nós procuramos os “griots contemporâneos”, e na nossa sociedade é incrivelmente simples encontrá-los. É esta gente de várias idades, sexo, raças e escalões sociais com a capacidade invulgar de inspirar, entreter e iluminar com as suas histórias que cumpre com o nosso critério de convite.

O Kubhula tem três fundadores e, apesar de parti-

lharmos a mesma visão, temos gostos e personalidades totalmente distintas, o que naturalmente se reflecte nos nossos interesses. Mas temos em comum a vontade de aprender.

Cada conversa que temos com diferentes convidados é um momento de aprendizagem, e quanto menos soubermos sobre o tópico da conversa mais interessados estamos e mais gozo temos em o explorar.

Moçambique é um país com várias histórias que merecem ser ouvidas e partilhadas.

Acreditamos que o nosso posicionamento é o de criar uma plataforma e espaço, o de criar conversas profundas sem limites de tempo e espaço, dando voz a histórias que devem ser contadas, desenvolvendo durante esse processo um arquivo digital que pode ser acedido, em qualquer lugar e a qualquer hora, por qualquer um. Os convidados que já passaram pelo podcast são todos únicos por si sós, mas há algo em

comum em todos eles. Nós gostamos de os chamar de "griots contemporâneos". É gente independentemente da idade, raça, sexo e escalão social com a capacidade invulgar de inspirar, entreter e iluminar com as suas histórias que cumpre com o nosso critério de convite. A maior parte do nosso público está baseada em Moçambique e tem idades compreendidas entre os 25 e os 35 anos, sendo predominantemente do sexo feminino. Muitos dos nossos participantes chegam ao nosso estúdio com algum medo ou receio, talvez por estarem em f rente do microfone, rodeados de pessoas que nunca tinham visto e com que nunca tinham falado, à espera de serem interrogados. Mas, assim que se apercebem do que se trata e sentem o à-vontade e a essência do Kubhula, tudo passa, e a conversa flui. É nesse momento que conseguimos extrair o maior valor desta experiência.

Houve uma época em que a rádio estava omnipresente na vida das pessoas. Mas o surgimento da televisão mudou os hábitos das famílias e ouvir a rádio tornou-se praticamente algo restrito aos carros. O reinado da televisão, por sua vez, ainda persiste. Na última década, porém, os smartphones começaram a roubar a atenção que costumava ser

dada às telas de televisão.

Muitas pessoas gostam de comparar podcasts com rádio, mas podcasts não são rádio, não é assim tão linear.

Enquanto o conteúdo da rádio dura pouco tempo e acontece ao vivo, o podcast é o que se chama de mídia f ria: pré-gravado, projectado para ser consumido hoje ou ao longo dos anos a partir de agora.

Acreditamos que o nosso crescimento tem que ser uma consequência do nosso trabalho e é exactamente isso que tem vindo a acontecer. O nosso público-alvo é um nicho de mercado. Se quisermos ser tudo para todos, agradar a gregos e troianos, corremos o risco de nos tornarmos genéricos e irrelevantes. O Kubhula vai chegar onde tiver que chegar e enquanto tiver que chegar. Enquanto f izer sentido e adicionar valor.

Dentro do próprio Kubhula existem vários segmentos, como, por exemplo, o Kubhula Online, que é com convidados na diáspora, e também o Kubhula RAW, que é, mais recentemente, um segmento onde não há f iltro e onde reagimos e comentamos sobre vários assuntos da actualidade, locais e internacionais, e damos a nossa opinião nua e crua. Estamos também a desenvolver projectos com algumas rádios e outras instituições.

As histórias “made in moz” criam ligações entre a nossa identidade pessoal e a do nosso país

Márcio Luiz, co-founder, in his own words Kubhula is a word in the Shangaan language that means to converse, to dialogue. We don't say that a good conversation is a panacea for all possible diff iculties and challenges, but we strongly believe that it can help pointing you in the right direction, at the very least! By naming the podcast like that, it was our intention that this name would represent that interactive communication, but sprinkled with our Mozambicaness. These days, for a thousand and two reasons, we have more virtual conversations than those in person, and the conversation that gave rise to the idea of creating a podcast is no exception to this rule.

It was in 2018, in a small WhatsApp group of close f riends separated by distance, exposed to a multiplicity of environments, which often arouse a greater variety – and quality – of ideas, that we started flirting with the possibility of creating a podcast. It is not always easy to interlink the professional part of our lives with non-professional activities, but Kubhula is a project that occupies and will forever occupy a special place in our hearts, as there is a very strong reciprocal relationship between us, and each episode it becomes stronger and more rewarding. This perspective makes all stages of the process of creation (producing, scheduling, recording, editing, publishing, etc.) a little less complex – as the old saying goes, those who run for pleasure never tire!

Podcast is the combination of two words: iPod and broadcasting – the latter originating f rom the world of radio. Although there are considerable differences between these two media, the combination of

radio influence and culture – which is signif icant at grassroots level across our Af rican continent, having an unrivaled reach – with the ubiquitous cell phone and access to modern technologies that this facilitates, creates a sweet spot where Kubhula and its contents live. Well – “Made in Mozambique” stories create links between our personal identity and that of our country, and have the ability to influence and reinforce the sense of individuality of each one of us. Each of these narratives provides us with a better context, a context that helps us better understand the society in which we live and, at the same time, gives us different types of resources that we can use to build our own stories. By sharing stories, we open a space to f ind and focus on similarities rather than differences, forging connections between people and ideas, and, at the same time, creating conditions and solutions so that, together, we can help our young country to get further, as we know it can.

We've always been fans of this format, as well as listeners to several podcasts.

Unfortunately, a large part of what is available online, despite being interesting and of very good quality, is content f rom outside our country; content we are not emotionally involved with to the extent that it would make us feel that they are talking to and for us. It was this intrinsic need to feel connected to the people and stories of our land, and the certainty that there would be more people feeling the same, that was and continues to be our motivation. In West Af rica, there is the term “griot”, which is an individual responsible for absorbing and transmitting ancestral history, culture and memories f rom generation to generation. We look for the “contemporary griots”, and in our society it is incredibly simple to find them. It is these people of different ages, genders, races and social classes that have the unique ability to inspire, entertain and enlighten with their stories that meet our invitation criteria.

KUBHULA

Kubhula has three founders and, although we share the same vision, we have totally different tastes and personalities, which naturally reflects on our interests. But we share the desire to learn. Each conversation we have with different guests is learning time, and the less we know about the topic of conversation, the more interested we are and the more enjoyment we have in exploring it.

Mozambique is a country with plenty of stories that deserve to be heard and shared. We believe that our positioning is to create a platform and space, to create deep conversations without time and space constraints, giving voice to stories that must be told, developing during this process a digital f ile that can be accessed, anywhere and anytime, by anyone. The guests who have been through the podcast are all unique in themselves, but there is something in common in all of them. We like to call them "contemporary griots".

They are people who, regardless of age, race, gender and social status, have the unusual ability to inspire, entertain and

enlighten with their stories that meet our invitation criteria. Most of our audience is based in Mozambique and is aged between 25 and 35 years old, predominantly female.

Many of our participants arrive at our studio with some fear or trepidation, perhaps because they are in f ront of the microphone, surrounded by people they have never seen and have never spoken to, waiting to be interrogated. But once they realize what it's all about, and feel the ease and essence of Kubhula, it all goes away, and the conversation flows. It is in those moments that we are able to extract the most value f rom this experience.

There was a time when radio was ubiquitous in people's lives. But the advent of television changed the habits of families and listening to the radio became practically something restricted to cars. The reign of television, for its part, still persists. In the last decade, however, smartphones have begun to steal the attention that used to be paid to television screens. A lot of people like to compare podcasts to

radio, but podcasts aren't radio, it's not that linear. While radio content is short-lived and takes place live, podcasting is what is called cold media: pre-recorded, designed to be consumed today or over the next few years.

We believe that our growth has to be a consequence of our work and that is exactly what has been happening. Our target audience is a niche market.

If we want to be everything to everyone, to please Greeks and Trojans, we run the risk of becoming generic and irrelevant. Kubhula will get where it has to go and for as long as it needs to; whilst it makes sense and adds value. Within Kubhula itself, there are several segments, such as Kubhula Online, which is with guests in the diaspora, and also Kubhula RAW, which is, more recently, a segment where there is no f ilter and where we react and comment on various subjects of current events, local and international, and we give our opinion raw and unvarnished.

We are also developing projects with some radio stations and other institutions.

Como é que o Absa responde aos casos de f raude em Moçambique?

O Absa Bank Moçambique, tal como o nosso Grupo como um todo, tem tolerância zero à f raude. No Absa tratamos a f raude de forma muito rígida e asseguramos que as nossas políticas e procedimentos sejam desenhados para dar suporte ao nosso compromisso com os nossos clientes e com a sociedade. Mais do que responder a casos de f raude, a nossa maior preocupação é preveni-los, sendo este um exercício contínuo e dinâmico, acompanhando o desenvolvimento dos diversos produtos, tecnologias, sistemas, processos a nível global, bem como as novas tendências de f raude que os acompanham. Acreditamos que esta abordagem permite minimizar o máximo possível o impacto da f raude, tanto em nós como nos nossos clientes, uma vez que os autores de f raudes estão cada vez mais especializados e usam técnicas avançadas que, em algumas circunstâncias, lhes permitem estar um passo à f rente. Temos especialistas nas equipas, quer localmente, quer ao nível do nosso Grupo, que nos apoiam na identif icação, prevenção e tratamento da f raude. Quais são os conselhos básicos para que os cidadãos evitem ser vítimas de f raude?

Sabemos que, num mundo globalizado como o de hoje, com avanços tecnológicos, as redes sociais e os inúmeros serviços online disponíveis, acabamos entregando com facilidade os nossos dados pessoais às diversas plataformas e aplicativos, que, na sua grande maioria, são serviços não bancários, o que abre uma maior janela para a f raude. Cada um de nós tem aqui um papel importante na prevenção, detenção e redução deste risco. É de extrema importância que estejamos mais atentos e vigilantes quanto às informações que partilhamos nas redes sociais e nas diversas plataformas digitais, sejam elas de pagamentos, jogos, entretenimento, serviços, ou outras. Adicionalmente, em conexão com este incremento na utilização cada vez maior dos meios digitais, é muitas vezes negligenciada a importância de estarmos sempre atentos às políticas de privacidade de dados, bem como à autenticidade dos aplicativos, que, em algumas circunstâncias, nos levam a perceber que estamos perante uma aplicação f raudulenta e ou de uma tentativa de f raude. Com o intuito de contribuir para sensibilização acerca da f raude, de forma contínua, temos desenvolvido um trabalho de partilha, junto aos nossos clientes, colaboradores e público em geral, de diversas dicas de prevenção e/ou possíveis sinais de alerta para estarem sempre atentos e vigilantes, aconselhando desde manter em segurança os seus dados e códigos de acesso até novas tendências, como

as contas Mule, por exemplo. Por último, mas não menos importante, reiteramos a importância do papel que cada um desempenha na denúncia de possíveis tentativas de f raude, que devem de imediato ser comunicadas ao Banco ou a outra entidade, quando aplicável.

De que forma é que a f raude f inanceira impacta o sector da banca? E o mercado?

O impacto do risco de f raude é severo e pode ser fatal para uma instituição f inanceira, sendo que, dependendo da magnitude e ou papel que a instituição desempenha no mercado, o eco pode fazer-se sentir com maior ou menor impacto no sector f inanceiro e no mercado em geral.

Para além dos impactos f inanceiros negativos que a f raude acarreta para o sector ou uma instituição, ela traz consigo impactos de carácter reputacional, legal e criminal, que não são de todo menos importantes, pois são geradores de desconf iança e descrédito por parte dos vários intervenientes, incluindo, por um lado, clientes e potenciais clientes, pondo em risco os seus depósitos e o desempenho de produtos e negócios, bem como a adesão a novos produtos e novos negócios, e, por outro lado, o próprio regulador, uma vez que pode acarretar multas, suspensões temporárias de actividades e, em casos extremos, perda de licenças de actividade. Para um crescimento sustentado da economia, é essencial um sistema f inanceiro ef iciente, e, desempenhando este um papel dinamizador do processo de investimento ao agir como fornecedor de crédito, a intermediação f inanceira é considerada a sua espinha dorsal. Dito isto, qualquer impacto neste sector, ou especif icamente na banca, poderá comprometer ou desacelerar o desenvolvimento de uma economia e, em cenários extremos, causar, inclusivamente, o colapso da mesma.

Como é que a literacia f inanceira pode ajudar a combater este problema?

A importância de saber gerir bem as nossas f inanças é crucial e permite que estejamos melhor preparados quando nos deparamos com decisões importantes de investimento ou f inanciamento. O Absa acredita que a literacia f inanceira tem um papel preponderante na mitigação do risco de f raude, pois vai para além da transmissão dos conhecimentos sobre produtos e serviços que os bancos oferecem, e integra a componente educacional sobre o que cada um destes representa, oferece e como deve ser tratado em todo o seu ciclo de vida. O domínio deste modus operandi suscita um estado de alerta quando um comportamento desviante se evidencia. Um dos maiores desaf ios está mesmo na componente da literacia f inanceira, e agora também digital, que se encontra aquém dos níveis desejados no País, o que deixa a nossa sociedade mais vulnerável ao risco de f raude.

Como parte do nosso compromisso para a redução deste fosso, temos vindo a promover diversas acções, tais como a partilha de manuais de literacia f inanceira, debates temáticos nos nossos E-series, divulgação de dicas e sensibilização aos clientes nas redes sociais e no nosso website. How does Absa handle f raud cases in Mozambique?

Absa Bank Moçambique, as well as our Group as a whole, has zero tolerance for f raud. At Absa we handle f raud very strictly and ensure that our policies and procedures are designed to support our commitment to our customers and society. More than responding to f raud cases, our main concern is to prevent them, this being a continuous and dynamic exercise, following the development of various products, technologies, systems, processes at a global level, as well as the new f raud trends that accompany them. We believe that this approach allows us to minimize the impact of f raud as much as possible, both on us and on our customers, as f raudsters are increasingly specialized and use advanced techniques that, in some circumstances, allow them to be one step ahead. We have specialists in our teams, both locally and across our Group, who support us in identifying, preventing and dealing with f raud. Because we are part of a Pan Af rican Group, we have the privilege of getting to know different realities, exchanging experiences and practices f rom different geographies, which gives us greater strength in this and other areas.

This topic is extremely relevant to us and, therefore, we have collaborated with the different key players in the f inancial sector: our Regulator, the Mozambican Association of Banks and other f inancial institutions, in order to positively contribute to the prevention and mitigation of risk of f raud in the f inancial sector.

What basic advice can you give to prevent citizens from being fraud victims?

We know that in today's globalized world, with technological advances, social networks and countless online services available, we end up easily delivering our personal data to various platforms and applications, which are, for the most part, non-banking services. This opens a greater window for fraud. Each of us has an important role to play here in preventing, detaining and reducing this risk. It is extremely important that we are more attentive and vigilant regarding the information we share on social networks and on various digital platforms, whether it is used for payments, games, entertainment, services, or others. Moreover, in connection with this increasing use of digital media, the importance of always being aware of data privacy policies, as well as the authenticity of applications, is often neglected. In some circumstances, this knowledge is what makes us realize that we are facing a fraudulent application and/or an attempted fraud. In order to continually raise awareness about fraud, we have been working to share, with our customers, employees and the gen-

eral public, several prevention tips and/or possible warning signs so that they are always on the lookout and vigilant, advising everything from keeping your data and access codes safe to new trends, such as Mule accounts, for example. Last but not least, we reiterate the importance of the role each person plays in reporting possible fraud attempts, which must be immediately reported to the Bank or another entity, when applicable.

How does financial fraud impact the banking sector and the market?

The risk of fraud has a severe impact and can be fatal for a financial institution. Depending on the magnitude and/or role that the institution plays in the market, the echo can be felt with greater or lesser impact on the financial sector and on the market in general. In addition to the negative financial impacts that fraud has on the sector as a whole or on a particular institution, fraud brings with it reputational, legal and criminal impacts, which are no less important, as they generate mistrust and discredit on the part of the various stakeholders, including, on the one hand, customers and potential customers –

putting their deposits at risk and the performance of products and businesses, as well as the adherence to new products and new businesses – and, on the other hand, the regulator itself, as it can entail fines, temporary suspensions of activities and, in extreme cases, loss of activity licenses. An efficient financial system is essential for a sustained economic growth, and financial intermediation can be considered its backbone, playing a dynamic role in the investment process by acting as a credit provider. That said, any impact on this sector, or specifically on banking, could compromise or slow down the development of an economy and, in extreme scenarios, even cause it to collapse.

How can financial literacy help to combat this problem?

The importance of knowing how to manage our finances well is crucial and allows us to be better prepared when faced with important investment or financing decisions. Absa believes that financial literacy has a prominent role in mitigating the risk of fraud, as it goes beyond the transmission of knowledge about products and services that banks

offer, and integrates an educational component about what each one of them represents, offers and how it should be treated throughout its lifecycle.

Mastering this modus operandi raises a state of alert when deviant behaviour becomes evident. One of the biggest challenges lies in the financial literacy component, and now also digital, which is below the desired levels in the country, which makes our society more vulnerable to the risk of fraud. As part of our commitment to reducing this [knowledge] gap, we have been promoting various actions, such as the sharing of financial literacy manuals, thematic debates in our E-series, dissemination of tips and awareness to customers on social networks and on our website. We take this opportunity to invite all readers of this magazine to invest a little of their time in improving this knowledge and being always up to date on the emerging forms of fraud, and reducing their vulnerability to this risk. The security of our customers is our greatest concern and, therefore, we will continue to endeavour all efforts within our reach to reduce the vulnerability of our customers, our business and society in general to the risk of fraud.

Um desconhecido 'influencier' na dança contemporânea Quem é Horácio Macuácua?

Jaime Álvaro "Não sei quem eu sou! Sou uma pessoa que a cada dia tenho que me descobrir". Este é Horácio Macuácua, um (des)conhecido coreógrafo e bailarino moçambicano, que iniciou a sua carreira na dança tradicional moçambicana em 1996. Diz que não sabe quem é, mas sabe o que o def ine. A dança não é uma mera paixão, sua prof issão, é muito mais que isso. Além de ser sua vida, a dança é a sua alma.

orácio Macuácua era novo quando começou a dançar, tão novo que nunca experimentara outra coisa. Desde cedo, a dança se tornou seu lifestyle, e rapidamente o seu destino artístico se traçou, com dedicação especial à street dance (dança de rua). Em 1999, foi membro-fundador da CulturArte, uma das primeiras companhias de dança contemporânea de Moçambique, onde participou de diferentes performances dirigidas pelo também coreógrafo moçambicano Panaibra Gabriel. Na área da dança contemporânea, teve a oportunidade de trabalhar com coreógrafos de projecção internacional, como o brasileiro Marcelo Evelin, o sul-af ricano George Khumalo, o norte-americano Mark Tompkins e o f rancês Boris Charmatz, entre outros.

Horácio nasceu na cidade de Maputo, mas desenvolveu-se fora do país. Como muitas crianças da sua época, Horácio descobriu o seu talento nas ruas do bairro. Começou com street dance, antes de se especializar em danças tradicionais, na Casa Velha, e muito antes ainda de aprender a bailar com a ponta dos dedos. "Comecei na Casa Velha, nos anos 90. Era adolescente, tinha 16 anos de idade. Dançava street dance nos bairros, em competições, antes da dança tradicional. A Casa Velha era uma casa cultural que acolhia todo o

tipo de artista amador. A Casa Velha era acolhedora de talentos", f risou.

Da Casa Velha ao velho continente, tão grande era o talento de Horácio que não podia ser escondido ao mundo. Em 2001, Horácio viajou, pela primeira vez, para a Europa, para apresentar seus trabalhos. Três anos depois, conheceu o seu mentor, o coreógrafo venezuelano David Zambrano: "Conheci o David Zambrano em 2004, quando ele veio a Moçambique. Ele convidou-me a ir à Áustria para fazer uma formação, para trabalhar com ele na sua companhia, e também para aprender as técnicas que ele ensina", assim contou o jovem bailarino o encontro que mudou a sua vida.

David Zambrano tem vindo a fazer dança há mais de 30 anos. Nas suas actividades como criador e educador, visitou já 63 países, trabalhou com milhares de bailarinos, e actuou em centenas de locais em todo o mundo. As suas peças vão desde coreografia de set, improvisação estruturada, e pura improvisação. Nascido na Venezuela, Zambrano passou 15 anos em Nova Iorque, e agora vive entre Amesterdão e Bruxelas, continuando a actuar e a ensinar em todo o mundo. O talento de Horácio faz dele uma inspiração para muitos artistas da área e, em pouco tempo, Horácio se tornou, na Europa, um professor muito requisitado.

O professor sem escola Horácio nunca se formou numa escola formal de dança. A sua verdadeira escola foi a rua. Foi aí que se descobriu, que aprendeu que os movimentos do corpo poderiam substituir a voz, como meio de comunicação com o universo. "A minha formação na dança foi muito de observar, porque em Moçambique não há escolas profissionais de dança.

Eu venho de uma escola de rua. Mas hoje, graças à sorte que tive, dou aulas de dança em Universidades da Europa", disse, com muito orgulho.

Em 2005, Horácio ganhou, do seu mentor, uma bolsa de estudos para se especializar em dança contemporânea na Europa, precisamente na Áustria.

Como aprendiz do coreógrafo venezuelano David Zambrano, participou como intérprete em várias das suas criações, pesquisando e desenvolvendo suas técnicas, como o Flying Low – ‘voando baixo’, que consiste especialmente em um trabalho de solo, permitindo ao bailarino explorar a relação entre seu peso e a superfície. Essa técnica utiliza padrões de movimento simples que envolvem a respiração, velocidade e a liberação de energia através do corpo todo para activar a relação do centro com as articulações.

Horácio actua também como professor, tendo já leccionado em Moçambique, Bélgica, França, Alemanha, Holanda, Suécia, Espanha, Brasil e Portugal: "Já andei em várias universidades do mundo, em escolas, seja a dar aulas, a fazer workshops, a compor peças ou a transmitir a minha experiência. Estou constantemente a sair de um lugar para o outro a partilhar a minha bagagem cultural. Estou num lugar que não sei, mas sei que estou com a agenda 'full', por alguma razão, que desconheço, as pessoas gostam daquilo que faço", partilhou a experiência.

Horácio desempenha um papel importante na dança contemporânea nacional. Ama o que faz e transmite tudo quanto sabe com amor e entusiasmo. "O meu mentor fez-me um pedido especial. Ele pediu-me para partilhar o conhecimento adquirido na Europa com os outros profissionais em Moçambique, porque ele não podia levar todos. Desde então, não cobro um centavo sequer para ensinar as técnicas que aprendi na Europa aos meus alunos", revelou o artista, que lamenta o egocentrismo de alguns colegas. "Há um pouco de egocentrismo nos artistas experientes, o que impede o surgimento de uma nova classe artística, uma nova geração. Não se passa o testemunho. Os festivais que existem apresentam muitos artistas, muitas companhias.

Entretanto, esses colectivos, esses artistas, só aparecem naquele evento anual ou bienal. O que fazem durante os anos sem festivais? É preciso mudar essa

forma de promover a arte, de promover os artistas.

Essa forma actual não é sustentável".

O “destruidor” de regras “Obras de arte fazem regras, mas as regras não fazem obras de arte. ”Esta citação pertence ao músico e compositor francês Claude Debussy, mas poderia ser de Horácio Macuácua. A “regra”, para Horácio, não é uma lei, mas sim uma excepção.

Usada, poucas vezes (ou quase nunca), pelo artista nas suas criações e/ou performances. A improvisação é o seu único método, a sua única disciplina, quando se apresenta em um palco. "Não gosto de uma ideia fixa. Sou como uma tela branca em que deixo as tintas darem contornos que nos levam a um caminho não pré-concebido. Não me interessa fazer uma arte definida. Gosto de me surpreender, não defino muito as estruturas das minhas peças. É mais surpreendente quando eu mesmo não conheço o final das minhas próprias peças", vincou a sua singularidade artística.

Com toda a sua bagagem artística, o bailarino passou a investir num trabalho artístico autoral, tendo “Comum”, de 2007, sido o primeiro, que mescla performances em ambientes fechados e abertos. Em 2009, Macuácua criou “Orobroy, Stop!” para a 3ª edição do Kinani – Plataforma de Dança Contemporânea de Maputo, recebendo o Grande Prêmio “PUMA Creative”. No ano seguinte, 2010, conquistou o primeiro lugar no concurso Danse l’Afrique Danse – Encontros Coreográficos de África e Oceano Índico, realizado em Bamako, Mali. A Companhia então passou a fazer apresentações pelo continente africano, em países como Benim, Chade, Congo, Nigéria e Togo, e pela Europa, na Holanda, França e na Bélgica. No ano de 2012, Horácio criou a peça “Smile if you can”, apresentando-se em Portugal, África do Sul, França e Polónia. Em 2014, realizou o trabalho “Convoy“, em colaboração com quatro intérpretes espanholas. Seus trabalhos mais recentes são as peças “Migrations to paradise” e “Paradise is not in the sky”.

Horácio não tem dúvidas de que o seu futuro é no palco, e, esteja ele onde estiver, a bandeira e o nome de Moçambique vão sempre consigo: "Vou continuar seguramente na Europa, mas a dar voltas pelo mundo, levando sempre o nome de Moçambique para onde eu for. Sinto que tenho que fazer algo pelo meu País, por isso tenho o projecto de abrir um estúdio em Moçambique para partilhar a minha experiência", finalizou.

Horácio Macuácua vive na cidade de Granada, em Espanha, desde 2009.

An unknown influencer in contemporary dance Who is Horácio Macuácua?

Jaime Álvaro "I don't know who I am! I am someone who discovers himself everyday". This is Horácio Macuácua, an (un) known Mozambican choreographer and dancer, who started his career in Mozambican traditional dance in 1996. He says he doesn't know who he is, but he knows what defines him. Dance is not just a passion, his profession – it is much more than that. In addition to being his life, dancing is his soul.

Horácio Macuácua was young when he began dancing, so young that he had never tried anything else. From an early age, dancing became his lifestyle, and his artistic destiny was soon chartered, with a special commitment to street dance. In 1999, he was a founding member of CulturArte, one of the first contemporary dance companies in Mozambique, where he participated in various performances directed by fellow Mozambican choreographer Panaibra Gabriel. In the contemporary dance field, he had the opportunity to work with internationally renowned choreographers, such as Brazilian Marcelo Evelin, South African George Khumalo, North American Mark Tompkins and Frenchman Boris Charmatz, among others.

Horácio was born in Maputo City but trained abroad. Like many children of his time, Horácio discovered his talent on the streets of his neighborhood. He started with street dancing before specializing in traditional dance at Casa Velha, long before he would learn how to dance with his tippytoes. "I started at Casa Velha in the 90s. I was a teenager, 16 years old then. I used to dance street dance in the neighborhoods, in competitions, before traditional dance. Casa Velha was a cultural house that welcomed all kinds of amateur artists.

Casa Velha nurtured many talents," he stressed.

From Casa Velha to the old continent, Horácio's talent was so great that it could not be kept hidden from the world. In 2001, Horácio travelled, for the first time, to Europe, to present his works. Three years later, he met his mentor, Venezuelan choreographer David Zambrano: "I met David Zambrano in 2004, when he came to Mozambique. He invited me to go to Austria for training, to work with him in his dance company, and also to learn the techniques he teaches", said the young dancer about the encounter that changed his life. David Zambrano has practiced dance for over 30 years. In his activities as a creator and educator, he has visited 63 countries, worked with thousands of dancers, and performed in hundreds of locations around the world. His pieces range from set choreography, structured improvisation, and pure improvisation.

world. Horácio's talent makes him an inspiration to many artists in the field and, in a short period of time, Horácio has become a much-requested teacher in Europe.

The teacher without schooling Horácio never graduated from a formal dance school. His real school were the streets. It was there that he found himself, that he learnt that the movements of the body could replace the voice, as a means of communication with the universe. "My training in dance was heavily based on observation, because in Mozambique there are no professional dance schools. I come from a street school. But today, thanks to my luck, I teach dance at European Universities", he said, with great pride.

In 2005, Horácio won, from his mentor, a scholarship to specialize in contemporary dance in Europe – in Austria, to be precise. As an apprentice of the Venezuelan choreographer David Zambrano, he participated as a performer in several of his creations, researching and developing his techniques, such as Flying Low, which consists primarily of a solo work, allowing the dancer to explore the relationship between his weight and surface. This technique uses simple movement patterns that involve breathing, speed, and the release of energy throughout the entire body to activate the centre’s relationship with the joints.

haven't charged a penny to my students to teach them the techniques I learnt in Europe", revealed the artist, who laments the self-centeredness of some of his colleagues. "There is a bit of self-centeredness in seasoned artists, which prevents the emergence of a new artistic class, a new generation. The baton is not passed. The festivals that exist present many artists, many companies. However, these collectives, these artists, they only appear at that annual or biennial event. What do they do during the years without festivals? It´s necessary to change this way of promoting art, of promoting artists. This current way is not sustainable."

Horácio is also a teacher, having already taught in Mozambique, Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, Brazil and Portugal: "I've been to several universities around the world, in schools, either teaching, doing workshops, or composing pieces or sharing my experience. I'm constantly going from place to place to share my cultural baggage. I'm in a place I don't know, but I know that my schedule is full; for some reason I can´t fathom, people like what I do," he shared the experience.

The rule breaker “Works of art make rules, but rules don't make works of art.” This quote belongs to the French musician and composer Claude Debussy, but it could well be from Horácio Macuácua. For Horácio, the “rule” is not a law, but an exception – rarely (or almost never) used by the artist in his creations and/or performances. Improvisation is his only method, his only discipline, when performing on stage. "I don't like a fixed idea. I'm like a blank canvas onto which I let the paint draw outlines that lead me to a path that was not pre-conceived.

I'm not interested in making an exact art. I like to be surprised; I don't define the structure of my pieces from the outset. It's more surprising when I don't know the endings of my own pieces", he said, underlining his artistic singularity.

Horácio plays an important role in national contemporary dance. He loves what he does and shares everything he knows with love and enthusiasm. "My mentor made me a special request.

He asked me to share the knowledge acquired in Europe with other professionals in Mozambique, because he couldn't take them all. Since then, I

His most recent works are the pieces Migrations to paradise and Paradise is not in the sky.

Horácio has no doubts that his future is on the stage, and wherever he is, the flag and the name of Mozambique always go with him: "I will definitely continue in Europe, but traveling around the world always carrying the name of Mozambique wherever I go. I feel I have to do something for my country, so I have the project of opening a studio in Mozambique to share my experience", he concluded.

Prova disso são os “novos” escritores que se têm desenvolvido analisando e recolhendo experiências dos “mais experientes”. Nota-se interess e em escrever, em publicar, em mo strar as ideias. Esse é o primeiro passo para se saber estar neste mundo da arte da escrita, delicado e nem sem pre bem cuidado. Moçambique é um país de grande diversidade cult ural.

A literatura do país é bastante forte, tendo nomes de peso nas ma is variadas áreas. Isso é bom, pois são exemplos que cativam a melhoria da nossa literatura. Nota-se a preocupaç ão da Associação de Escritores Moçam bicanos, das diversas fundações , dos núcleos de literatura, dos pró prios escritores que existem nas pro víncias, em desenvolver esta área e mo strar a importância da leitura e escrita . E naturalmente isso acaba por ser sinónimo de melhoria na nossa liter atura.

Contribuir para o desenvolvimento da capacidade de análise crítica, pois os livros ajudam-nos a desenvolver a nossa capacidade de ler e interpretar das mais variadas maneiras e de forma efectiva, com uma postura isenta, mas crítica. Quando criticamos algo que achamos bom ou mau, precisamos de o fazer com critério, e concretamente, e de demonstrar, argumentando. Para isso, ler é fundamental.

Fomentar o gosto pela leitura e pela escrita, pois os livros são uma boa base para o Saber Estar, Saber Ser e Saber Fazer. O hábito de leitura ajuda a desenvolver os nossos argumentos, as nossas palavras, o uso do idioma, entre muitas outras importantes competências numa sociedade.

Estes são os principais objectivos com que a Alcance Editores, no seu trabalho ano após ano, pensa e produz, para que existam mais livros, mais leitores, mais educação e cultura.

Founded in 2007, the company currently has partnerships and representation f rom other publishers around the world, a portfolio of approximately 2,000 clients, which includes more than 33% of the 100 largest companies in Mozambique. Our mission, at all times, is to provide a personalized and dedicated service to meet the needs of our customers, and to be eff icient and competitive. Our vision is to be and remain a reference in our f ield of activity, follow trends and seek continuous improvement and constant innovation.

These past 15 years were years of hard work. Years in which we had sustainable, dynamic growth and always with the aim of improving the services we provide.

These were years of learning, exchanging experiences in Mozambique and abroad and, above all, of gaining recognition for our work at national level. Today, we reach any part of the country, and people know Alcance Editores and our work. We have many authors, many published books; we have expanded to the international market, and have developed specif ic content in various editorial themes, with our main focus being on education and Mozambican literature. In the last 4 years, we started to give expression to the content and the book. We started in 2017, with the production of 52 new books, and have since registered annual growth. In 2021, we will end the year with 96 new books which we published and produced. The coming years will be full of challenges, above all to maintain the good name of

the company, develop new school content, especially in secondary education, an area in which we are less dynamic, and embrace new projects in the technical and professional areas.

Mozambican literature has been growing rapidly, with much greater prospects in writing, criticism and literary analysis.

Proof of this are the “new” writers who have developed by analyzing and collecting experiences f rom the “more experienced”. There is an interest in writing, in publishing, in showing ideas. This is the f irst step in knowing how to be in this world, that of the art of writing, which is delicate and not always well cared for.

Mozambique is a country of great cultural diversity. The country's literature is quite strong, having important names in the most varied areas. This is good, as they are examples that promote the improvement of our literature. The concern of the Association of Mozambican Writers, of the various foundations, of the literature centers, of the writers that exist in the provinces, in developing this area and showing the importance of reading and writing is noteworthy. And naturally, this ends up being synonymous with the overall improvement of our literature.

We are not betting on young people alone; it is broader than that. We want to promote Mozambican literature, that's the point. Our literature needs to be disseminated, cherished, protected, encouraged, as this is the only way we will have more quality, more work, more interest, more reading and writing habits. Only then will we have more and better education and culture.

Calane da Silva was one of our f irst authors. He believed in Alcance Editores and in the goals we had. He was a person who followed our path, presented ideas, suggestions, had a very close relationship with the Publisher and showed this publicly. He was a member of the jury of the Alcance Editores Literary Contest since the beginning, and was an integral part of the criticism and support for the authors who were winning the award. Today, this contest is called the Calane da Silva Literary Contest, as we consider it to be a fair tribute to one of the icons of our literature. When we approached the family to present the idea, it was welcomed. It is a name that naturally values the award, but it also shows the literary aspect to all new writers, as an example that they should follow.

Social responsibility is an active part of our project and our growth as a publisher. We annually support schools and institutions with books, lectures, meetings with students, teachers, guardians, in order to encourage reading and writing, bringing together education and culture, between entrepreneurship and human development. In 2021, we were in more than 100 schools countrywide, with campaigns for responsibility and social investment.

Reading improves students' learning, as it stimulates the proper functioning of memory, develops the interpretive capacity, helps to have a clear, dynamic and active reasoning, in addition to providing the reader with a broad and diversif ied knowledge of the most varied subjects.

The book is one of the greatest inventions that man has access to. It is through it that knowledge, and varied cultures are expressed and transmitted. Our country has received the book and its writers on a small scale, and this must be worked on. There is the prospect of developing a National Reading Plan, encompassing books

by Mozambican authors f rom different national areas, and making it an integral part of the curriculum, updating the books according to the subjects and new curricula being worked on.

Alcance Editores has had several conversations in this regard and expressed its interest in being an active part of this process. We hope that this project will move forward, and that, together with publishers, the Ministries of Education and Human Development and Culture and other bodies, it will be possible to materialize this plan.

The book market improved between the years 2016 and 2019, with several bookstores appearing nationwide, a rise in the search for books to be part of bookstore collections and interesting dynamics and events with authors in cultural spaces. This naturally created an expansion in this area of business. From 2020 onwards, we once again feel that this market is declining.

Few bookstores exist nationwide today, most of them buying a few books and having a weak cultural dynamic. The market shows that people still go to bookstores inf requently and, naturally, the investment made by bookstores ends up being smaller and smaller. I believe they will show growth again, and so we hope, for the sake of literature.

ALCANCE EDITORES' OBJECTIVES FOR THE COMING YEARS ARE:

Pass on knowledge, as books convey knowledge and/or learnings. Human knowledge owes a lot to books, which allowed each generation to show the next generations what they had learnt, their tests, research and successful results. When we read good books, we are interacting with knowledge in the most diverse domains.

Promote education and culture, as books help transmit cultural values and develop the ability to debate, analyze different lifestyles, art, ways of thinking and relating in society. Reading broadens our horizons.

Contribute to the development of critical and analytical skills, as books help us to develop our ability to effectively read and interpret in a variety of ways, with an impartial but critical stance. When we criticize something that we think is good or bad, we need to do it judiciously, and concretely, and demonstrate it by arguing. For this, reading is essential.

Encourage a liking for reading and writing, as books are a good basis for knowing how to relate, knowing how to be and knowing what to do. The habit of reading helps us to develop our arguments, our words, the use of language, among many other important skills in a society.

These are the main objectives with which Alcance Editores, in their work year after year, think and produce so that there are more books, more readers, more education and culture.

Keysha Sumbane, de 25 anos, comercializa produtos artesanais que produz à base de vegetais cultivados no seu próprio quintal, em Santa Isabel, distrito de Marracuene, a 34 Km por estrada da Cidade de Maputo. Começou por fazê-los para si própria, para a sua pele, sensível e susceptível a alergias. Depois, começou a vendê-los e, da evolução do negócio, nasceu, em 2020, a BABY D - Cosméticos 100% naturais.

Não é só na alimentação que os chamados produtos verdes estão tendo protagonismo. Hoje, a palavra sustentabilidade passou a integrar o vocabulário recorrente de várias áreas. É claro que a maior parte deles ainda são alimentos orgânicos, porém os cosméticos estão conquistando cada vez mais espaço. A indústria da beleza não fugiu à tendência, sendo cada vez mais comum nela se encontrarem produtos def inidos como verdes. É o caso dos produtos da BABY D, uma marca moçambicana.

Os produtos Baby D servem não só para a pele, são também para tratamento do cabelo. Keysha produz quatro linhas de óleos, e quer produzir mais linhas futuramente, numa missão que designa de 'revolução da indústria cosmética'.

Um mal que veio por bem Antes da eclosão da pandemia em Moçambique, Keysha trabalhava no ramo cultural. Com as casas culturais encerradas, no âmbito das medidas de mitigação dos efeitos da pandemia da covid-19, viu-se obrigada a reinventar-se e identif icou, no mercado da beleza, uma oportunidade de negócio relacionada com a irritação de pele de que padecia: “Na verdade, eu encontrei o problema primeiro em mim, porque eu sou alérgica a produtos químicos. Depois, encontrei alguns amigos que também têm o mesmo problema. Sempre gostei de cuidar da pele e do meu cabelo de forma natural, e sempre me caiu bem, até porque o natural não tem nenhum efeito colateral, é diferente da indústria cosmética química”, explicou a empreendedora e proprietária da marca.

Keysha Sumbene é formada em Administração de Empresas. Quando decidiu fazer óleos para ter rendimentos, procurou formar-se na área e fez um curso online de cosméticos artesanais f itoterápicos e f ito-energéticos, e agora o resultado está nas suas mãos: “Produzo óleo de aloé vera, a

que eu chamo ‘kulunga’ que signif ica ‘perfeito’ em changana, língua do sul de Moçambique. Todos nós sabemos que o aloé vera tem propriedades super, híper necessárias para a pele e para o cabelo, até mesmo para o organismo”, referiu.

O Kulunga é feito à base de coco. A par dele existem outras três linhas de óleos: o óleo de cenoura, ´Kontsura', que na língua chope signif ica ‘beleza’; o óleo de gengibre, 'Pantima', que signif ica ‘brilho’ em changana; e o óleo de eucalipto, chamado ´Kudaha’, que em changana signif ica ‘curar’. “Os homens podem usá-los. Eu tenho muitos clientes homens que amam os óleos e são mesmo f iéis. Eu acho que tenho mais clientes homens do que mulheres”, esclarece Keysha, cujos produtos foram concebidos para todos os géneros.

Segundo a mentora dos produtos, os óleos servem para tratamento da pele, do cabelo e até de problemas respiratórios. Cada um deles custa 650 meticais, o f rasco de 500 ml, saindo a versão de 280 ml num combo, ou seja, num conjunto de quatro f rascos, a 1.400 meticais. “Por enquanto, só temos os óleos, mas eu quero que a BABY D tenha muito mais produtos, porque eu sei fazer mais do que isso. Por exemplo, sabão, sabote líquido, shampoo, sais de banho, cremes, condicionadores. Então, a BABY D vai trazer tudo isso para Moçambique. E vai ser o “boo” da revolução natural”, revela Keysha seus planos para futuro.

“Desta forma, pretendo contribuir para reduzir os gases com efeito estufa produzidos pela indústria cosmética. Portanto, pretendo continuar com a minha actividade por muitos e longos anos, e fazer com que gerações abracem essa grande revolução que é a BABY D cosméticos, a “revolução natural”, sonha Keysha, determinada em procurar um futuro próspero numa área com pouca concorrência em Moçambique.

Keysha Sumbane, 25 years old, sells artisanal products that she produces based on vegetables grown in her own backyard in Santa Isabel, Marracuene district, some 34 km by road from Maputo City. She started by making them for herself, for her skin, which is sensitive and susceptible to allergies. Afterwards, she started to sell them and, as a natural evolution of the business, BABY D - 100% Natural Cosmetics was born in 2020.

It is not just in the food sector that the so-called green products are playing a leading role. Today, the word sustainability has become a f requently used addition to the vocabulary of several areas.

Of course, most of them are still organic foods, but cosmetics are gaining more and more space.

The beauty industry did not escape the trend, it being increasingly common to f ind products def ined as green. This is the case of BABY D products, a Mozambican brand.

BABY D products are not only for the skin; they are also for hair care. Keysha produces four lines of oils, and wants to produce more lines in the future, a mission she calls the “cosmetic industry revolution”.

I found some f riends who also have the same problem. I've always liked to take care for my skin and hair in a natural way, and it's always been good for me, especially because the natural one doesn't have any side effects, it's different f rom the chemical cosmetic industry”, explained the entrepreneur and owner of the brand.

Keysha Sumbene has a degree in Business Administration. When she decided to produce oils to earn an income, she sought out a degree in the f ield and took an online course in therapeutical herbal cosmetics and phyto-energetics, and now the result is in her hands: “I produce aloe vera oil, which I call kulunga, meaning “perfect” in Shangaan, the language of southern Mozambique. We all know that aloe vera has super, hyper necessary properties for the skin and hair, even for the body”, she said.

The Kulunga is made f rom coconut. Along with it, there are three other lines of oils: carrot oil, Kontsura, which in Chichope language means “beauty”; the ginger oil, Pantima, which means “brightness” in Shangaan; and eucalyptus oil, called Kudaha, which in Shangaan means “to heal”. “Men can use them. I have many male customers who love oils and are really loyal. I think I have more male customers than female ones”, clarif ies Keysha, whose products are designed for all genders.

Something good out of something bad Before the outbreak of the pandemic in Mozambique, Keysha worked in the cultural f ield. With the closing of the cultural houses as part of the measures to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, she was forced to reinvent herself and identif ied, in the beauty market, a business opportunity related to the skin irritation she suffered f rom: “Actually, I found the problem in me f irst, because I'm allergic to chemicals. Then,

According to the products´ mentor, the oils are used to treat the skin, hair and even respiratory problems. Each one costs 650 meticais for a 500 ml bottle, and the 280 ml version comes out in a combo, that is, in a set of four bottles, at 1,400 meticais. “For now, we only have the oils, but I want BABY D to have a lot more products, because I know how to do more than that. For example, soap, liquid soap, shampoo, bath salts, creams, conditioners. So, BABY D will bring it all to Mozambique. And it will be the “boo” of the natural revolution”, says Keysha of her plans for the future.

“In this way, I intend to contribute to reducing greenhouse gases produced by the cosmetic industry. Therefore, I intend to continue my activity for many long years, and make generations embrace this great revolution that is BABY D cosmetics, the “natural revolution”, dreams Keysha, determined to seek a prosperous future in an area with little competition in Mozambique.

“Quando escolhi a engenharia química, sonhava em trabalhar em algum laboratório e focar-me na área de cosmética, mas ao longo dos anos na faculdade comecei a questionar as minhas escolhas”, confessa.

Tal como acontece com o caminho de muitas outras pessoas, as expectativas de Joelma não foram ao encontro do que se estava a passar de facto na sua vida. Contudo, continuou e terminou o curso como havia inicialmente projectado. Acima de tudo, a jovem procura um trabalho em que se sinta desafiada diariamente, que tenha um ambiente competitivo saudável, e em que acorde todos os dias motivada, não sentindo que seja uma obrigação ter de ir trabalhar. Quem nunca isto desejou?

Murargy está a escrever a sua história e, não sendo já pelos trilhos da engenharia química, tem projectos que gostava de implementar: “O Banco de investimentos onde trabalho é focado na área digital, no ramo do agronegócio. É um modelo diferente dos grandes bancos porque investe nas relações interpessoais com os seus clientes. Acredito que, se decidir abraçar esta área, depois de alguns anos de experiência no Banco, poderei trazer mais valias para a área de investimentos na banca em MoçamRevista Xonguila © ™ Ed. 42 • Novembro/November 2021 - 69

We can leave it playing in the background, and think about how many trial mixtures a chemical engineer had to make in order to develop wine from honey. Curious? Come along with Jolema Murargy, to discover what she has been up to in Brazil.

Jolema has always been curious about discovering the world. Whilst still a teenager, she ventured into places where she didn´t know anyone, because she felt it necessary to test her ability to survive away from her parents. “That was an exciting prospect for me”, says the 26-year-old.

Presently living between Itajubá, in the Minas Gerais state, and the city of São Paulo, in Brazil, the engineer believes that the opportunity to discover new cultures is crucial for a more responsible human growth.

Newly graduated, Jolema Murargy recently entered the job market. Albeit studying for a Chemical Engineering degree at the Universidade Federal de Itajubá - UNIFEI, in the Minas Gerais state, where her work focused on the industrialized production of wine developed from honey, she is currently working in the financial market.

The educational system in Brazil is different from Mozambique´s, and it is common to have an internship in a field other than that of the academic studies, a fact that helps each professional gain a more holistic view of the market.

“When I chose chemical engineering, the dream was to work in a laboratory in the cosmetics industry but, once at the university, I began to question my choices”, she confesses. As it happens to many others, Jolema´s expectations were not matching what was actually happening in her life. Nevertheless, she persisted and completed her degree as originally planned. Above all, the young woman seeks a job that will challenge her daily, that has a healthy competitive environment and that will make her wake up motivated every day, without feeling that work is an obligation. Who has never wanted that?

Murargy is writing her own story and, albeit no longer on the chemical engineering path, she has projects she would like to implement: “The investment Bank where I work now has a focus on digital solutions, in particular for the agrobusiness sector. It is a different model than that of the big banks because it invests in the interpersonal relationships with its clients. I believe that if I choose to embrace this area, after a few years of work experience in the bank, I will be able to bring added value to the investment banking sector in Mozambique”, shares the young woman.

One thing is certain: Jolema will always have her strong will, and the samba, of course. By way of electronic correspondence with Xonguila, the engineer shares that she feels so involved with Brazilian culture that she ends up not reliving Mozambican culture as much as she would like to. “In Brazil, their culture is so strong that it feels like the rest of the world is non-existent. But, when it comes to language, I don’t speak with an [Brazilian] accent when I am in Mozambique”, states the young woman. From our side, we believe that whenever she sits down on any beach in that country, she casts an eye over the water and revisits the blue of our own Indian Ocean.

Moçambique e as crenças sobrenaturais

M

oçambique é um ponto de encontro de culturas, um país rico em tradições onde imperam as mais variadas crenças. Mesmo nas áreas urbanas, incluindo a capital, são muitas as pessoas que acreditam vivamente no poder do oculto e do sobrenatural, muitas vezes associado a mezinhas várias e objectos como conchas, pedras, penas, etc. Tais crenças, fortemente ligadas ao povo, ou melhor, aos diversos povos que coabitam no nosso país, são consideradas cultura tradicional, e são muitas as práticas e nomes a elas associados: xicuembo, feitiçaria, magia negra, curandeirismo, medicina tradicional, religião africana, entre outros.de Acontece frequentemente que, estando alguém doente, não procure um hospital ou centro de saúde formal, mas um médico tradicional, um curandeiro. Se as suas terapias resultam ou não, é algo controverso e motivador de calorosos debates, com fortes defensores de qualquer um dos lados. A verdade é que são inúmeros os seus adeptos e curiosas as histórias contadas por quem já se submeteu ou assistiu a alguma consulta, independentemente da sua classe social, idade ou nível de escolaridade. Uma pesquisa realizada pelo MISAU em 2009 sobre o HIV indica que grande parte da população nacional acreditava em curas tradicionais, e que muita gente admitia que o vírus da SIDA tinha origem em causas sobrenaturais.

São, por isso, muito comuns os curandeiros e médicos tradicionais, normalmente anciãos, pessoas com experiência que utilizam rituais para ajudar na cura de doenças, problemas sociais e outras questões do quotidiano.

Também em ritos de passagem ou momentos particulares como, por exemplo, a inauguração de uma habitação, a abertura de

um furo de água, a primeira limpeza de um terreno para cultivo, é frequente serem chamados anciãos ou figuras importantes na hierarquia tradicional para invocarem espíritos pedindo a sua protecção e ajuda para saúde e prosperidade. Servem de ligação com os espíritos dos antepassados, que invocam para alcançar os resultados pretendidos.

Ocorre também por vezes que, ao pretendermos visitar certos cursos de água, florestas ou locais históricos considerados sagrados, sejamos aconselhados a solicitar a pessoas em quem a comunidade reconhece autoridade e poderes sobrenaturais, que autorizem a entrada e visita, pedindo a bênção dos espíritos. Assim nos aconteceu, por exemplo, em visitas a um cemitério histórico junto à fortaleza de Sena, na província de Sofala, e a uma cascata na serra da Penha Longa, na província de Manica.

Mozambique and its supernatural beliefs Mozambique is a meeting point of cultures, a country rich in traditions where the most varied beliefs prevail. Even in urban areas, including the capital, there are many people who strongly believe in the power of the occult and the supernatural, often associated with various remedies and totems such as shells, stones, feathers, etc. Such beliefs, strongly linked to the people, or rather to the different peoples who live in our country, are considered traditional culture, and there are many practices and names associated with them: xicuembo, witchcraft, black magic, healing, traditional medicine, African religion, among others.

It frequently happens that, if someone is sick, they don´t go to a hospital or formal health center, but rather to a traditional doctor, a healer. Whether their therapies work or not is a controversial topic that sparks heated debates, with strong supporters on either side. The truth is that traditional healers have countless followers, and curious stories are told by those who have undergone or witnessed a consultation, regardless of their social class, age or level of education. An HIV survey carried out by MISAU in 2009 indicates that a large part of the national population believed in traditional cures, and that many people admitted believing that the HIV virus had its origins in supernatural causes. Therefore, traditional healers and doctors are very common, usually experienced elders who use rituals to help cure illnesses, social problems and other everyday issues.

During rites of passage or particular moments such as, for example, the inauguration of a house, the opening of a water hole and the first cleaning of land for cultivation, elders or key figures in the traditional hierarchy are often called to invoke the spirits, asking for their protection and help for health and prosperity.

They serve as a link with the spirits of the ancestors, who are invoked to achieve the desired results.

It also sometimes happens that, when intending to visit certain watercourses, forests or historical sites considered sacred, we are advised to ask people in whom the community recognizes supernatural authority and powers, to authorize entry and visit, asking for the blessing of the spirits. This happened to us, for example, on visits to a historic cemetery next to the Sena fortress, in the province of Sofala, and to a waterfall in the Penha Longa mountain range, in the province of Manica.

“Chovem Amores na Rua do Matador” A Fundação Fernando Leite Couto (FFLC), em co-produção com a Direcção de Cultura da Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (UEM), estreou, no passado dia 11 de Novembro, no Centro Cultural Universitário da Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, a peça de teatro “Chovem Amores na Rua do Matador”, resultado de uma adaptação feita pelo escritor moçambicano Mia Couto de um conto homónimo seu, em co-autoria com o escritor angolano José Eduardo Agualusa, que consta do livro de ambos “O Terrorista Elegante e Outras Histórias”. A encenação foi feita por Maria Clotilde e Vitor Gonçalves.

“Chovem Amores na Rua do Matador” tem um elenco composto por estudantes e docentes da Escola de Comunicação e Artes da Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, nomeadamente Angelina Chavango, Horácio Guiamba, Joana Mbalango, Josefina Massango e Violeta Mbilane. Evaro Abreu fez o cenário, Sara Machado, os figurinos, Ademar Chauque, a coreografia. A música é de Shigeru Umebayashi, a sonoplastia de Pedro Pinto e a luminotecnia de Quito Tembe. A direcção de produção esteve a cargo de Clotilde Guirrugo e Pablo Ribeiro.

O enredo retrata a estória de Baltazar Fortuna, que, depois de longos anos de uma vida penosa e amargurada, volta a Xigovia, com planos para matar as três mulheres com quem se relacionou no passado. Vai na crença de que elas são a fonte de todos os azares que o perseguem.

Mia Couto e José Eduardo Agualusa reflectem neste conto sobre o conflito entre um Moçambique periurbano, que hesita entre um lastro de tradições e práticas ancestrais cristalizadas nas mentalidades masculinas dominantes, e um novo país, de demografia galopante, prenhe de jovens que, a cada dia, menos se revêem nas estruturas culturais herdadas e nas práticas sociais por elas impostas. O conflito entre Baltazar Fortuna e as suas mulheres – Mariana Chubichuba, Judite Malimali e Ermelinda Feitinha – leva, inevitavelmente, à morte de um desequilíbrio social onde o lugar que cabe às mulheres e o dos homens é vigorosamente questionado e resolvido em cada opção, em cada atitude, em cada gesto do presente.

Esta peça de teatro foi criada com vista à sua apresentação na segunda edição do Festival Gala Gala, em 2021, em formato de vídeo. A exibição do dia 11 foi a sua primeira apresentação presencial, sendo, também, a estreia para uma temporada presencial que, em havendo patrocínio, poderá estender-se a outras províncias moçambicanas.

“Chovem Amores na Rua do Matador” On November 11th at the Centro Cultural Universitário from Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, the Fernando Leite Couto Foundation (FFLC), in co-production with the Directorate of Culture of the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (UEM), premiered the theater play Chovem Amores na Rua do Matador (“It´s Raining Love on Matador Street”), an adaptation of the namesake tale by the Mozambican writer Mia Couto, co-authored by the Angolan writer José Eduardo Agualusa, which appears in the book also co-authored by them, O Terrorista Elegante e Outros Histórias (“The Elegant Terrorist and Other Stories”). The staging was done by Maria Clotilde and Vitor Gonçalves.

Chovem Amores na Rua do Matador has a cast made up of students and professors from the School of Arts and Communication of the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, namely Angelina Chavango, Horácio Guiamba, Joana Mbalango, Josefina Massango and Violeta Mbilane. Evaro Abreu built the stage set, with costumes by Sara Machado and choreography by Ademar Chauque. The music is by Shigeru Umebayashi, with sound design by Pedro Pinto and stage lighting by Quito Tembe. Clotilde Guirrugo and Pablo Ribeiro headed the production.

The plot paints the story of Baltazar Fortuna who, after long years of a painful and embittered life, returns to Xigovia with plans to kill the three women with whom he had a relationship in the past, believing that they are the source of all the misfortunes that follow him.

In this story, Mia Couto and José Eduardo Agualusa reflect on the conflict between a peri-urban Mozambique, which hesitates between the weight of ancestral traditions and practices crystallized in dominant male mentalities, and a new country, with a rampant demography, pregnant with young people who, every day, see less in the cultural structures they inherited and in the social practices imposed by them.

The conflict between Baltazar Fortuna and his wives – Mariana Chubichuba, Judite Malimali and Ermelinda Feitinha – inevitably leads to the death of a social imbalance where the place of women and men is vigorously questioned and resolved in each option, in every attitude, every gesture of the present.

This theatre play was created with the intention of being presented at the second edition of the Gala Gala Festival, in 2021, in video format. The exhibition on the 11th was its first in-person presentation, also marking the debut of an in-person season that, pending sponsorships, may extend to other Mozambican provinces.

Antes da viagem aos Emirados Árabes Unidos, Eldevina Materula reuniu com toda delegação, constituída pelo Governo e sector privado, para consolidação da agenda de trabalho na Expo Dubai 2020.

O tema central da Expo 2020 Dubai é “Conectando Mentes, Criando o Futuro”. O tema de Moçambique é “Gestão Sustentável da Natureza, o Melhor Legado para as Gerações Vindouras”, enquadrado no Subtema “Sustentabilidade”.

delegation led by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Eldevina Materula, was recently in the United Arab Emirates to participate in Expo Dubai 2020, as part of the cultural and tourism program aimed at strengthening Mozambique's participation in this international event and strengthening relations and bilateral cooperation between the Government of Mozambique and the Government of the United Arab Emirates in the fields of Culture and Tourism. It was also an opportunity for Mozambique to showcase its potential to visitors to the Mozambique Pavilion and to the public at large, through the diversity of cultural expressions that constitute the identity of Mozambicans.

The delegation included staff from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, representatives of the Ministry of Tourism at the CTA, writer Paulina Chiziane and musician Cheny Wa Guni. The Mozambican delegation participated, among several programmed activities, in the seminar on the theme “Mozambique, your Next Tourist Destination”. The delegation also held meetings with organizations in the sector of tourism, trade and industry in Dubai and with various investors in the sector and visited the Mozambique Pavilion and pavilions of other countries. The program also included an autograph session with writer Paulina Chiziane, the Winner of the Camões 2021 Award, and a demonstration of Timbila with musician Cheny Wa Guni.

We intend to identify potential partners to 'explore' the destiny of Mozambique; we would want to see formalized, the investment intentions of businessmen from the United Arab Emirates in Mozambique" – said, at the outset, the Minister of Culture and Tourism.

Before her trip to the United Arab Emirates, Eldevina Materula met with the entire delegation, whose members hailed from both Government and the private sector, to consolidate the work agenda at Expo Dubai 2020.

The central theme of Expo Dubai 2020 is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. Mozambique´s theme is “Sustainable Management of Nature, the Best Legacy for Generations to Come”, under the sub-theme “Sustainability”.

As acções decorrem até 10 de Dezembro, considerado o Dia dos Direitos Humanos.

AGAINST GENDER VIOLENCE To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, UN Women, one of the organizations of the United Nations system, launched an international campaign against gender-based violence on the 25th of November. The actions run until December 10, considered Human Rights Day.

IV Edição do Fórum Gestão de Pessoas On the past 17th and 18th of November, the IV Edition of the Fórum Gestão de Pessoas (Human Resources Forum) took place at Torres Rani, in Maputo, which featured several Mozambican and international speakers from the human resources and people management sector. This is the fourth edition of this event in Mozambique, whose objective is to reach more and more professionals in the sector, influencing them in the implementation of best practices. This year, it was extended to Angola and also to Cape Verde.

In this edition, a commitment was made to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 8: “Decent Work and Economic Growth”.

The Forum intends to contribute with the following actions:

• Protect workers' rights by promoting safe working environments for all, including migrants and people in precarious jobs.

• By 2030, achieve full and productive employment, with decency and dignity, for all.

On the first day, the main discussion topics were organizational transformation, management of hybrid teams and the use of technology, with representatives from companies and institutions such as Access Bank, Sika Moçambique, Absa Bank Mozambique, SAP Central Africa, Nestlé, Cervejas de Moçambique. On the second day, November 18th, the themes were varied, such as the role of the leader, the impact of Covid-19 and digital transformation. Among the guests were companies such as the Mota-Engil Group, the Letshego Bank and the Continental Secretary General for the African Youth Development Commission.

ilvia Fashion's extreme youth can be misleading regarding her talent for creating lascivious and glamorous dresses. Born in Mozambique, Silvia grew up in Inhambane. She sketched clothes when she was still a child, and prepared, for a few years, to join Ashton Mozambique.

It was there that, in 2016, she started a BA in women's clothing, while cultivating a list of private clients.

The success of her collections led her to abandon all other activities in order to focus on her own brand, based in the province of Inhambane. Even before its debut in the

summer of 2017, it was unanimously applauded and since then it has gained more and more enthusiastic buyers, more award nominations and more celebrity admirers.

Fashion museums have played an important role in the career development of this young stylist, who spent two years as a backstage intern at fashion shows, an experience that gave her a keen sense of the industry she works in. She uses a variety of techniques and styles, such as herringbone hems, ruffles and bias-cuts, and generous necklines, which will dominate her upcoming fall-winter 2022 collection.
