Xi chapter owns a proud history at the University of Arkansas. As we celebrate our 125th year, Xi chapter also celebrates many firsts at the U of A. Webster’s Dictionary defines first as “being before all others with respect to time, order, rank or importance.” At Xi, we celebrate more than simply being the first Greek letter society, or secret society of any kind, established in Fayetteville... While being first isn’t everything, we are extremely proud of the tradition we enjoy and the men who have come before us. From first initiate John Clinton Futrall through today, Xi chapter has been responsible for many firsts at the University. A timeline appears on several pages of this report that gives a snapshot of our forbearers and the milestones of this chapter. The names and faces on these pages, young and old, are a sampling of nearly 125 years of honor, pride, accomplishment and friendship. Grand Master
This is Fabulous Xi!
BRYCE LARRY
Welcome from the President… Not for day, or an hour, or a college term only, but for life… This small phrase exemplifies the mindset of all the men of the Fabulous Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma. The unshakeable bond of brotherhood and the continuous commitment to excellence can be hard to explain to someone who is not a part of the largest and most decorated fraternity at the University of Arkansas. The leaders before us that have laid the foundation of honesty, integrity, and pure excellence, entrusted in us the obligation to extend these qualities into younger future leaders. Like the phrase above states, these qualities will shape not only the college terms of the men of the Xi Chapter, but more importantly their entire lives. As president here at Xi Chapter, I have the privilege of leading 250 of the best men that this campus has to offer. Every day that God allows me to wake up, I know that it is my duty to serve and guide the members of the best student organization at the UofA. I continuously am reminded by these fantastic men how blessed I am to be in this position. The 2013-2014 school year was another step forward for the Xi Chapter even amidst an ever-changing Greek Life and several trials and tribulations. The true character of our members was shown this past year as they all came together numerous times to improve the chapter, even though it was not always easy. One major reason that our chapter continues to improve is that we have men serving as the front runners in every aspect of campus life. Interfraternal Council, Pre-Med Society, Finance Club, and most importantly Associated Student Government are littered with men of the Fabulous Xi Chapter. The newly elected ASG Treasurer, Mike Wyse, is a Xi brother. Men that are dedicated to serving not only the chapter but the entire campus are only carrying on the legacy that other Kappa Sigma’s have laid before them. This past school year, the men of Xi put a heavy emphasis on scholarship and service, two areas that the Xi Chapter sees as “pillars” of our success. With a completely revamped scholarship and tutoring service, members have access to free tutoring for all of their classes. Although every member can access this tutoring fund, we strongly encourage freshman to take advantage of this unrivaled scholarship program. Pursuing academic excellence has always been a defining characteristic of a Kappa Sigma and each new member must understand that failure in the classroom is not an option. Luckily, years and years of successful recruitment with a focus on academics has allowed the Xi Chapter to produce pledge classes that are definite leaders in the classroom. A perfect example of this academic leadership is the Fall 2010 pledge class who graduated this past spring semester. This pledge class included the 2013-2014 Sam Walton College of Business Outstanding Finance Student of the Year as well as many other scholars who will be starting their careers with Fortune 500 companies such as Wal-Mart, Tyson, and J.B. Hunt. Brother Thomas Roblee also scored one of the highest DAT scores ever at the University of Arkansas. All of these brothers were heavily involved, not only in the classroom but within the Xi Chapter. We focus heavily on success after you have received your degree by providing seminars, guest speakers, pre-professional planning, and resume building. The men of the 2010 pledge class as well as every member of the Xi Chapter have been given ample opportunities to showcase their commitment to excellence outside of their college term. Xi men will continue to be leaders in business, health care, and service throughout our nation. continued on page 2

Welcome letter continued... With the leadership of brother Neil Watson, Kappa Sigma stressed the importance of service for a community that has supported us for almost 125 years. Thousands of community service hours were recorded over the past academic year including a full “clean-up” day on the top of Mount Sequoyah. Hundreds of Xi men took many hours out of their day to help preserve one of the top landmarks in the area. Xi also served projects such as the Boys and Girls Club and Martin Luther King Day march to just name a few. One of our biggest philanthropic events was a dinner that benefited the ABC School of Kenya where the chapter was able to raise just over $2,500. Receiving a video of all the kids of the Kenyan school dancing and screaming “Thank you Kappa Sig!” was one of the top moments of our year. The Fabulous Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma is approaching a historic year. 2015 will mark the 125th anniversary of the Xi Chapter, where Xi brothers of all ages will come together to celebrate the most decorated chapter in all of Kappa Sigma. Not only will this be the biggest event that the chapter has seen in 25 years, but also the most anticipated gathering for the University of Arkansas in decades. No other fraternity chapter in this country will be able to compete with event that is “Xi 125.” The Xi Chapter plans to add another F.A.C.E. Award (the highest honor that a Kappa Sigma chapter can receive) during this monumental year. More successful years like this past academic session will undoubtedly put the chapter in position to receive this prestigious honor. Achievements and recognition alone do not inspire Xi Chapter’s commitment to excellence, but rather an expectation that we are the best fraternity at the University of Arkansas, we are the best chapter of Kappa Sigma and we are the best fraternity in the world — unrivaled by any competition. I am honored to serve the men of the “Fabulous” Xi Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and could not be more proud of the men I call my brothers. The work they have done for our chapter, our university, and our community is extraordinary. I am confident that our commitment to excellence will continue to be our standard and I am thrilled to start summer recruitment. The 2014 fall pledge class will be another group of young men who will carry on the Xi legacy of being the absolute best, not for an day or an hour, or a college term only, but for life.

ince its founding on May 29, 1890, Xi chapter has housed many great leaders, scholars, and humanitarians, making it the most storied and oldest fraternity on this campus. Originally, the Xi chapter was founded at the Virginia Military Institute in 1874, but after a ban of fraternities at VMI, the Xi chapter was shut down after ten short years. Years later, a young dentist by the name of Dr. Charles Richardson, an Emory and Henry College initiate moved to Fayetteville in 1888 to take over a retiring dentist practice.
Xi Chapter Two years later, in the spring of 1890, he recruited John Clinton Futrall, Carl Clinton Miller, William Alfred Crawford, William Shields Goodwin, and George Bernard Pugh, the first initiates of the Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma. Along with founding the Xi Chapter, Dr. Richardson also founded the Chi Omega Fraternity, which is now the largest women’s sorority in the nation.
Looking back at the first five initiates, it is clear that Dr. Richardson did not choose hastily. John C. Futrall went to serve as the University’s president for over 26 years, was the first football coach for Arkansas, and now has streets and buildings named after him. William S. Goodwin served ten years in the U.S. House of Representatives, William A. Crawford worked many years in the Little Rock school system, and George B. Pugh went on to Vanderbilt University to become an attorney.
Following the sinking of the USS Maine in Havana Harbor, men left college campus’ to join the American forces during the brief Spanish-American War. On June 12th, 1898, a group of Kappa Sigma’s including Earle K. Braly (Xi 1895), Walter C. Hudson (Xi 1896), James L. Moore (Xi 1894), and Gordon Frierson (Xi 1896) gathered in front of a Civil War monument at Chickamagua National Military Park (Fort Thomas). Braly is seated in the front row with his hat off. Hudson is the one under the KΣ letters. This photograph is courtesy of the family of Walter C. Hudson, Sr. (1896) and Walter C. Hudson, Jr. (1935).
The success of the first five initiates carried on throughout Kappa Sigma history as John E. Martineau (1894) later became the Governor of Arkansas and Samuel B. Hill (1894) later became a Congressman and a member of the United State Board of Tax Appeals. Claris G. “Crip” Hall was a member of the fraternity in 1922 and was very active in campus activities, one of which was creating the annual event of Homecoming for the University. Today, the outstanding senior performer during the Homecoming game receives the “Crip Hall” award. Hall later served as Arkansas’ Secretary of State for twentyfive years. continued on page 5.

KAPPA SIGMA 2014
During the outbreak of World War II the number of men enrolled at the University of Arkansas dropped dramatically, which caused the Xi chapter to shrink in size. Following the end of the war, a great number of men returned to school under the G.I. Bill, which caused a great influx of men that the University could not house. All the fraternities took extra men, but Xi went above and beyond the call and built the annex onto the rear of the house. It was during this post-war period that Xi Chapter grew to be the largest chapter of any college fraternity – earning its monicker "Fabulous Xi".
History
Xi celebrated its centennial in 1990 which kicked off our greatest period of growth. Brother E. Fay Jones was the 1990 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal winner for lifetime achievement and the American Institute of Architects chose his Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs as the 4th best design of the 20th century. Jerry Jones, a 1963 initiate, purchased the Dallas Cowboys in 1989 and turned them into Super Bowl Champions in four short years and Philip Anderson, a 1954 initiate, became the President of the American Bar Association in 1998. Along with the success of its previous members during the 90’s, the Xi chapter itself shined bright in many ways. Starting in 1992, the Xi chapter started a twelveyear run in which it won the Founder’s Award of Chapter Excellence at the Kappa Sigma leadership conference and throughout the decade Xi chapter continually won the IFC Award of Excellence, the University’s award for the most outstanding chapter on campus. Xi had three men elected Student Body President between 1999 and 2009. In state politics, Brother Dustin McDaniel was elected as Arkansas’ Attorney General in 2007.
Along with the success that the Xi chapter was experiencing, a capital campaign called “Xi Project 2000” was led by Charlie Whiteside, George McLoed, and Malcolm McNair to renovate the Kappa Sigma house. The campaign achieved great success receiving over $2.25 million from alumni, friends, and undergraduates. After a year of construction the house was finally renovated and looked better than ever. Today, Fabulous Xi chapter of Kappa Sigma is the largest Kappa Sigma chapter in the world and is still the largest fraternity on the University of Arkansas campus. Xi is still producing leaders that excel on and off this campus as it has done since it’s founding. With its rich and deep history, the Fabulous Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma stands unrivaled by any other Fraternity on this campus. With nearly 3,500 initiates, Xi chapter stands tall and ready to "live forever, never die."
A LIFE OF SERVICE The March of Dimes is an American Institution. Founded by President Franklin Roosevelt, the March of Dimes led in the distribution of the Salk Vaccine and Charles Massey (1941), of Morrilton, was one of the people who led the effort within the March of Dimes to organize school children throughout the nation to conduct the tests which led to the nationwide acceptance of the vaccine. With the virtual elimination of the polio threat through vaccine, Massey, by then field director, accepted the responsibility of reorganizing the foundation to cover birth defects. Over his career with the March of Dimes that stretched from the 1940’s in Arkansas to the position of President and CEO when he retired nearly 50 years later, Massey had his hand in forming the mission and impact of this most respected organization. In recognition of his work, Kappa Sigma awarded Massey with its highest honor, the International Man-of-the-Year Award in 1984.
Charles L. Massey, Jr. Massey, who served as House Manager and Treasurer at Xi chapter, began helping, serving, and leading others while an undergraduate. Between 1941 and 1948, Massey began college, served in World War II, and returned to Fayetteville to complete his education. While in his service, Massey saw duty in the South Pacific where he was seriously wounded and spent more than a year in an Army hospital in the Philippines. When Massey returned to Fayetteville to complete his degree in the Fall of 1945, he had already married his high school sweetheart. However, married or not, members of Xi chapter were not going to allow Massey’s abilities to go unused. With the influx of returning men from the war, Xi chapter grew to more than 150 men, the largest chapter of any fraternity in the country. The chapter needed Massey skill to manage the chapter and so he lived in the apartments close to the chapter and was again managing the house’s affairs. During the postwar period, Massey developed a close friendship with pledge John McClellan, Jr., son of Arkansas Senator McClellan. Massey was interested in entering politics and the Senator told him he had to get to know people all of the state. McClellan, coincidently, was the state chairman of the unorganized group and Massey accepted an assignment to organize the county chapters. When the Polio epidemic hit the state in 1949, Massey and his newly organized county chapters were working night and day to set up emergency hospital facilities to serve the more than 1,000 cases in the state. His efforts did not go unnoticed and he was quickly named regional manager supervising several states. Over the next 40 plus years, Massey grew with this organization and ultimately was elected President and CEO in 1978. Through his efforts, the March of Dimes transitioned from polio eradication to birth defects and infantile arthritis prevention. Today, Massey is retired and living in Rye, New York. He has always been an active and generous donor to Xi chapter and our educational foundation. He attended Xi chapter’s Centennial celebration in 1990, Fay Jones Man-of-the-Year banquet in 1991, and has was involved in our Xi Project 2000.

Rush Report The XI chapter of Kappa Sigma has always been the cream of the crop when it comes to our rush program. Semester after semester the men of Xi put in the time and effort it takes to remain the top house on campus through recruitment. We recruit only the best men in the field as to ensure they will become great leaders not only in Kappa Sigma, but in the community and the university as well. Our rush process is very different from many, we recruit men from every possible area, and that is what makes Xi chapter of Kappa Sigma thrive on this campus. There are now kids coming to this great university from more areas then ever before, and we have adjusted to meet this changing environment. We now have two head rush chairmen, six regional chairmen for the state of Arkansas, one Texas chairmen and one out of state chairmen.
LEGACIES This year we created a new position to help farther ensure we remain the top house when it comes to rush. The new position is “Alumni and Alumni Recommendation Chairman. This chairman’s job consists of meeting every legacy and alumni recommendation coming through rush for the next semester. Having this many chairmen insures us that no area and no young man will be overlooked. The fall rush process started the day after spring rush was over this past semester. This positions us in front of other houses when it comes to meeting rushees, inviting them to events over the summer, and getting them excited about Kappa Sigma. Throughout the summer there were eight regional rush parties for potential members to attend. We also held one registered event in the city of Memphis where all active members were encouraged to attend and to bring potential new members. Many houses on this campus believe that rush starts when students move to Fayetteville in the Fall. For our team, rush started months ago. There are many reasons we are considered one of the top recruiting houses in the nation, but foremost we take great pride in the help and support we get from the great alumni of Xi. If any alumni have any potential members to share with us it would be greatly appreciated. We have set up an email account where all recommendations can be sent xichapterrush2014@gmail.com

Pledge Class Report BY PATRICK PATTERSON AEKDB
Being the Head Pledge trainer this past fall was not only an honor and privilege, but also an experience that words could never explain. Watching fifty-nine individuals work hard and put forth the upmost effort, over sixty days, to call themselves a member of The Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma was the most moving experience of my life. Something I stressed from day one to these men was that they, as a pledge class, were ONE. These men came in not knowing each other, but by the end of the sixty days, after working trough their trials and differences they were a strong band of brothers that could easily call themselves, as a pledge class ONE. Seeing this transition take place will be something I will never forget, and hopefully neither will they. One of the first things I introduced to the new pledges was The Star and Crescent. This sixty-five-word phrase is more than a symbol or a creed to memorize; the Star and Crescent encompasses what it means to be a Kappa Sigma. Living by the standards that it preaches makes each one of us a better man. At first it was just words on a page to these young men, but as time went on I could see them transforming and living by the principles set forth by these words that a Kappa Sigma should live by. In addition to the Star and Crescent, I worked hard with these men to better understand what the Four Pillars meant not only to the pledge program, but also to being a Kappa Sigma. Fellowship, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service is the foundation or “Pillars” that every member of this fraternity strives to excel in. Another large part of the pledge ship these men went trough was learning about the house we live in by introducing Xi Chapter History. I wanted the men to know who and how hard the men, years before us, had worked to build the beautiful house we live in. I believe respect for the house is very important because of the hard work that was put in place so we can call 711 W. Dickson our home and keep it that way. Brotherhood though was without a doubt the biggest part of their pledging experience. In the short sixty days they became overwhelmingly close. These men were always together whether it was through philanthropy events, study hall, or just hanging out, this caused them to learn things about one another that was more than any ordinary friendship. They became brothers. Now that they are members of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, hopefully what they learned throughout the pledging process with stay with them for the rest of their lives. From strangers at day one, to the strong group of brother they now are, I am very proud of the men they have become. These men represent the continuing tradition of the best chapter of the most preferred fraternity in the world, the “Fabulous” Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma, and I know their representation will bring this house pride. I have been truly blessed to have the opportunity to have been apart of this experience, and will always remember the effect these men have had on my life.

Kappa Sigma Social Report 2013-2014
The Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma is exceptional in many areas: the academics of brothers, networking provided for the future, lifelong brotherhood and friendship, and a social scene that is second to none. Kappa Sigma has had the premiere social calendar on campus for many years. The 2013-2014 school year kept that tradition going and even raised the bar. This year we set our standards high with the goal of being the most socially involved fraternity on campus, and most will agree that we have reached that goal with no doubt! We kicked off our social calendar with our age-old camping function, Southern Skies, which began in 1991. This social event is an overall favorite with all Xi Chapter members. Southern Skies consists of all the members and their dates going to Hog Ridge Hollow, where we camp out accompanied by a massive bonfire while enjoying one of our favorite bands, The Brandon Lay Band. Xi Chapter’s Homecoming theme was the superhero Batman and we created a float that was an exact replica of the world famous Bat-mobile. Due to inclement weather Xi Chapter wasn’t able to hold its annual Semi Formal, the Ole’ Mallard Ball, at the end of the fall semester. Traditionally this event is held at Pratt Place Barn event center where members and their dates go out for a nice dinner and then come back to the barn for entertainment by a band. For the Xi Chapter, the spring semester is the busiest time of year for our social calendar. The first social event of the spring is one of our biggest and largely celebrated functions, Fraddy Shack, a spin off of the 80’s hit movie Caddy Shack. Members got together and went to deck out Teatro Scarpino’s event center with AstroTurf and create the atmosphere of a golf course. Later that night, members and their guests came back to hear the DJ perform. On April 12, 2014, our annual Row Week celebration of greek life, Bacchanalia, kicked off with a huge bang. The first night of Bacchanalia is date night. Each Xi Chapter member takes their date to dinner at the restaurant reserved for their perspective pledge class. After dinner, members came back to house to hear the highly anticipated concert that was opened up with the return of The Brandon Lay Band and finished strong with an up and coming country star named Greg Bates, who had just recently seen his hit song “Did It for the Girl” make it on the radio. The second day of Bacchanalia was something Kappa Sigma has been known for around campus during the history of Row Week. Xi Chapter prides itself in outdoing itself from the previous years Bacchanalia Day Party and this year was no exception. This year Kappa Sigma rose to the occasion and hired Ace Hood for a hip hop performance. His performance exceeded all expectations and ingrained a lasting memory for our members. We believe Bacchanalia sets the standard of Row Week year after year. As the semester winds down we have our annual spring Formal that traditionally takes place outside of Arkansas. This year we decided to hold it in Fort Worth, Texas at the DFW Marriot Hotel and Golf Course. Members came to the hotel for the weekend and attended the formal dance in the banquet room of the hotel on Saturday night where they were served an exquisite Italian themed meal and entertained by J Team DJ service of Dallas/Fort Worth area. This memorable weekend made for an eventful end to the 2013-2014 social calendar. With the much-anticipated summer break coming soon, Xi Chapter is looking to make next years social calendar exceed this year’s. The leadership of our executive committee along with our dedicated members helped to make this year unforgettable. We fully expect the 2014-2015 school year and Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma’s social calendar to be even more eventful and continue our Xi Chapter tradition of 124 years here at the University of Arkansas.

Philanthropy Report NEIL WATSON
Here at the “Fabulous Xi” Chapter of Kappa Sigma we pride ourselves on reaching out and giving back to the community. Our efforts are not only devoted to campus involvement, but also the community of Northwest Arkansas as a whole. By being the largest fraternity on campus, we have the ability to make a huge impact on the community around us. To start off the school year, our chapter participated in Make a Difference Day by landscaping Chancellor David Gearhart’s yard at the Fowler House. Our men put in several hours to help preserve the beauty of our campus. They continued serving the community by putting on both Happy Hollow and Butterfield Trail Elementary Carnivals for any student who wanted to participate. Our members have participated in several other community service projects for the Fayetteville Food Pantry and the Mount Sequoyah Retreat and Conference Center. In the fall of 2013, our chapter put on the first annual Kappa Sigma Spaghetti Dinner in which we raised over $2,000 for the Blue Door Kenya Organization. Our efforts and donations helped fund feeding programs, housing, and schooling for abandoned children in Kenya. Providing sufficient needs to those less fortunate is a continuing goal for the Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma. Xi continues to have the opportunity to raise money for the Fisher House organization that provides housing for loved ones of injured veterans while they are receiving care in the hospital. Many of these families simply do not have the resources for extended stays while trying to care for their loved ones. The men of Kappa Sigma continue on the great tradition of selfless hard work and dedication to give back to the community. We look forward to new ways in which we can help out the community and can’t wait to see what lies ahead in years to come.

Intramural Report Xi Chapter had another successful year in intramural sports at the university. Kappa Sigma has won the overall Intramural trophy five of the last ten years. The group of guys that make up Xi Chapter are all well rounded individuals, and our competitive side really comes out in the intramural tournaments. Our members put together more than twelve intermural teams in sports such as softball, basketball, flag football, dodge ball, soccer, volleyball, and bowling. Brother Tyler Johnston, Xi Chapter’s Intramural Chair and flag football player, attended all the intramural games and brought supporting brothers with him to every field. With seven top five trophies, including 2nd place in flag football, 2nd place in the dodge ball jamboree, and 3rd in the softball tournament, the athletes of Xi Chapter really put on a great show and made our chapter proud.
Conclave Report CHAD COBURN
During the summer of 2013, the brothers of Xi Chapter made the trip to Las Vegas for the annual Conclave. Xi Chapter sent the following men: Cody Davis, Bryce Roberts, Thomas Roblee, Travis Green, Bryan Loyd, Bryce Larry, Scott Boone, Parker Friezell, and Hayden Byrd. Our chapter advisor, Malcolm McNair, also made the trip to help improve our chapter. Throughout the conference these men attended many seminars dedicated to helping our chapter excel in all areas. These seminars included leadership, effective habits of a good chapter, the art of manhood, creating the right bylaws, and many others that the men enjoyed going to and learning about. They then reported all that they had learned upon return from Las Vegas. The Kappa Sigma Conclave was also a brotherhood development event for all the men who went. Many of these men were getting to visit Las Vegas for the first time, and was an experience that they will get to share with their brothers forever.

Today, most anyone familiar with Jim knows of his many apartment developments in Arkansas and many surrounding states where he has grown his vast holdings – Alabama, Kansas Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. It all began in 1982 when he built his first apartment complex in Fayetteville — the Chestnut Apartments. In an Arkansas Business Article last year, Lindsey stated “The best thing I ever did [in business] was when I built 44 units of apartments on Poplar Street.” From that humble beginning, Lindsey Management Company has grown to manage over 38,000 apartment homes in over 160 complexes, as well as 42 golf courses. His “Links” concept was very popular when it began and is an identifiable landmark whether it is Fayetteville, Rogers, Columbia, Missouri, or any of the other communities where they are located. During the recent recession, a very tough period for real estate all over the country, Jim kept building. In 2010, Jim was recognized by Multi-Family Executive Magazine as the Number 1 developer for 2009 when he built 2,180 units. The publication noted that Jim has been extremely consistent and has weathered the storm.
Jim Lindsey OUSTANDING ALUMNUS 2014 1963, Fayetteville
When you add Lindsey Real Estate and Lindsey Construction, you see why Jim is an Arkansas success story and one of the most recognizable names in the state.
Success has followed Jim Lindsey everywhere he has gone – from college, to the NFL and in business after football as well. Coming from the Eastern Arkansas town of Caldwell where he graduated in 1962, Lindsey made an impact on the football field for the Razorbacks, in the NFL where he played for the Minnesota Vikings, and after football as one of the most successful real estate developers in Arkansas and the mid-South.
Jim’s love for the University, the Razorbacks, and the state has also kept him involved in many other endeavors. With Jerry Jones, Jim helped build the Hall of Champions at the Frank Broyles Athletic Complex. He has served on the Razorback Foundation Board of Directors and has served on the Board of Trustees at the University of Arkansas, including a time as Chairman of the Board.
Jim was initiated September 30, 1963 with five other men including Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys. This close friendship that began over 50 years ago continues to this day. In the classroom, Jim majored in Mathematics and always had a way with numbers.
In 1994, when Xi chapter and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity was set to honor Jerry Jones as the Man-of-the-Year for 1993, Jim was one of the featured speakers. He effectively roasted his longtime friend while telling great stories of his time on campus. The Walton College of Business honored Jim in 2010 with induction into the Arkansas Business Hall of Fame. Jerry Jones was inducted in that very same year.
In Jim’s first real estate venture, he used his $75,000 NFL signing bonus to purchase 137 acres in Fayetteville that would become the Northwest Arkansas Mall. He later flipped and used the proceeds to invest in other Northwest Arkansas real estate. Most of the articles that chronicle Jim’s success will talk about his gift for leveraging his quick grasp of numbers to understand the profitability of a deal.
Jim’s brother-in-law, Robert VanHook (1965), and nephews, Richard VanHook (1998) and Rod Lochala (1991), are all Xi initiates. The Xi chapter undergraduates and alumni are proud to honor Jim Lindsey as our 2014 Outstanding Alumnus.

The Kappa Sigma Experience SAWYER DUNNIGAN
To summarize my experience as a member of the Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma at the University of Arkansas in just a few paragraphs is a difficult task. The impact that the brotherhood has had on my life is immeasurable and surpasses any description that could be put on paper. Many men may leave a four-year fraternity experience with great memories of social events, sports, and new friends. However, this is only a small portion of the opportunities provided to all of the brothers of the Xi Chapter. When I entered college, I was striving to grow into a better man, and I knew that the decision to label myself as a Kappa Sigma at the University of Arkansas would change my life. During the fall semester of 2010, I pledged Kappa Sigma with 63 other men, all of which would quickly become my closest friends – moreover, my brothers. As a pledge of the Xi Chapter, I was able to meet a wide variety of men. I met pledges, active members, and alumni from various places and lifestyles. The one thing that unified all of us was the pursuit of the values stated in the Star and Crescent. The most essential teaching to a new pledge of Kappa Sigma is the Star and Crescent. This creed is the spoken motto of all men of Kappa Sigma and its words reflect the ideals of the fraternity:
“The Star and Crescent shall not be worn by every man, but only by him who is worthy to wear it. He must be a gentleman, a man of honor and courage, a man of zeal, yet humble, an intelligent man, a man of truth, one who tempers action with wisdom and, above all else, one who walks in the light of God” As a member of the Xi Chapter in pursuit of these ideals, I was provided the opportunity to develop personally, academically, professionally, and spiritually. Personally, I was given the chance to participate in social events and functions, constantly meeting new people. The network of friends and connections I made through these social events has been valuable beyond belief, and will continue to pay dividends in the future. Serving as Risk Manager, Judicial Board Member, and a Pledge Trainer all provided leadership development as well. Academically, I was able to maintain a high GPA and graduate with honors. This was due, in part, to the availability and willingness of brothers who had the experience and knowledge to help me perform to my highest ability in the classroom. Among the brothers of the Xi Chapter, there is constant encouragement to achieve academic success. Professionally, I was able to hold two internship positions while in college – financial positions within Morgan Stanley and Tyson Foods. Being hired at Morgan Stanley by an alumni brother from the Xi Chapter set the stage for my continued opportunities in the workplace. Most importantly, I was able to develop spiritually in my four years as an active member of the Xi Chapter at the University of Arkansas. The final words of the Star and Crescent, “…one who walks in the light of God,” portray what the ultimate pursuit of a man of Kappa Sigma should be. As a member of the Xi Chapter, I learned how to truly walk in the light of God, and help others know him personally and grow in their relationship with him. As a Kappa Sigma, there can be no opposition to the choice to follow God, as it is the final core value listed in our creed. To concisely describe the experience as a member of the Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma, a simple story or memory would not suffice. The best way to paint the picture of the Xi Chapter experience is to see the accomplishments of its men, and the opportunities set forth by the unbreakable bond of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Kappa Sigma in Student Government MIKE WYSE
To pick just one of our brothers as a model that embodies all of the virtues of a Kappa Sigma is a difficult task. One man that stands out in our chapter as a leader is a senior from Flower Mound, Texas. Michael Wyse entered freshman year with the determination to become involved in as many areas of the UofA as possible. In his first semester, Mike took on the challenge of running for the Associated Student Government Senate. He campaigned by himself outside the Arkansas Union, handing out Smarties and yelling “Be Smart, Vote Wyse” at all the pedestrians. His diligence and commitment earned him a victory, and Mike took his place among the ASG Senators. Soon after his win, Mike met Brother Bobby Pennington, who was the current ASG Vice President. As they became closer and Bobby saw Mike’s true potential, he told him about Kappa Sigma and encouraged him to rush in the upcoming semester. Mike had no idea how much this decision would affect his college career. Mike pledged Kappa Sigma in the Spring of 2012. Immediately, Mike took a leadership role by becoming Pledge Class President. Throughout his pledgeship, Mike encouraged his pledge brothers to get involved with ASG and give Kappa Sigma an overwhelming presence in the leadership of this university. As soon as Mike was initiated, he ran for Grand Master of Ceremonies and won a position on the Executive Committee of Xi Chapter. In the Spring of 2013, a once in a lifetime opportunity was presented to Mike. He had the chance to run for ASG Treasurer on the ticket with Daniel MacFarland, Amy Maywest, and Kelsey Furr. With all of his brothers behind him, Mike knew that his campaign could not be outdone by anyone else. With the start of the campaign, Mike’s banner was unveiled over the balcony at 711 West Dickson Street, and Kappa Sigmas could be seen all over campus wearing Mike’s shirts, handing out cups, and telling students about Mike’s goals and accomplishments. At the end of the semester, Mike won the election and took his place as the ASG Treasurer. Along with earning one of the highest seats in Student Government and an Executive Position in Xi Chapter, Mike also has an impressive list of other activities he is a part of. He has been an SI Leader in Microeconomics, a Freshman Business Connections Mentor, and the Fundraising Chair for the Rugby Club. With his impressive resume, Mike was able to get a prestigious internship in merchandise finance department at Walmart’s home office in Bentonville. Mike will graduate with a degree in Finance and a 3.85 GPA in the Spring of 2015. He continues to encourage our new members to become involved in ASG as well as other campus organizations. We are proud to call Mike a friend, as well as a brother.

Campus Leaders
SAWYER DUNIGAN Sawyer Dunigan, a graduating senior from Sheridan, Arkansas, is one of the most highly decorated and influential members that the Xi chapter has ever seen. The Xi chapter expects members to not only excel in the classroom and within the Greek community but also to make a lasting impact on the entire campus. Brother Dunigan has undoubtedly accomplished this in his four years at the University of Arkansas. Sawyer has maintained a 3.95 GPA while double majoring in finance and marketing in the Walton College of Business Honors Program. Brother Dunigan was recently given the prestigious award of being named the Sam M. Walton College of Business Class of 2014 Most Outstanding Student in Finance. Sawyer also currently holds a coveted internship at the Tyson Foods Inc. world headquarters as a financial analyst. Finance Club vice president, member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, and deputy portfolio manager for Rebsamen Trust Portfolio Management are just a few other prestigious positions that Brother Dunigan holds. These accomplishments, although great, will not be the reason that Sawyer is remembered and revered within the Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma and on the UofA campus, however. The positive impact that Sawyer Dunigan had on the men of the Xi Chapter is hard to illustrate on paper. He led and challenged younger members spiritually and academically while also being a brother that anyone could come to with any problem. Although never holding a major position in the house, Sawyer was able to change men’s life through roles such as pledge educator, judicial board member, and risk manager. The Xi Chapter would like to thank Brother Dunigan for the lasting impact he has made on the house that will live on for many years to come.
BRYCE LARRY Bryce Larry is a junior from Mountain Home, Arkansas and currently serving as Grand Master of Xi Chapter. Bryce has maintained a 3.79 GPA while balancing this job along with a major in Finance and a minor in Economics in Walton Honors College. NATHAN WATSON A senior from Fayetteville, AR, Nathan Watson truly represents a man who has put the fraternity above himself during his time at the UofA. Brother Watson served as the Xi Chapter Grand Master during the year of 2013. A leader can be defined as a person that many people want to follow. Not many men have come through the Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma and have exemplified a leader like Nathan. During his term as president he changed negative cultural practices into positive, long-lasting traditions. Brother Watson instituted a successful risk management plan and also laid the foundation for a grade policy within the chapter to help struggling members with their academics. Most of all, Nathan Watson changed the lives of many men within Kappa Sigma by never failing to be the leader that the chapter needed. Nathan will continue to lead others successfully as he leaves the UofA and pursues his Masters in Public Service at the Clinton School of Public Service. It is not a surprise that a man of such high character and integrity desires to help others for his entire life. The men of the Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma would like to thank Brother Nathan Watson for his service and commitment to the fraternity throughout his time at the University of Arkansas.
DANIEL BLACKSHARE Daniel Blackshare is a junior from Rector, Arkansas, majoring in biology with a minor in business. THOMAS ROBLEE Thomas Roblee, a native of Springdale, Arkansas, is a graduating senior that can truly be described as an academic role model for all the men of Xi Chapter. Thomas is graduating as a Fulbright Senior Scholar with a degree in Biology, a minor in Political Science, and a cumulative 4.0 GPA. His impressive academic career has earned him a spot on the Chancellor’s and Dean’s List for four years. While this is no easy feat in its own, Thomas has also dedicated a large amount of his time to improving Xi Chapter as well as the University. He has served on the IFC Executive Committee for two years as Secretary and Vice President of Philanthropy, as well as on ASG Executive Cabinet and as a Senator. Thomas is also active on the Predental Society’s Executive Board, and has been inducted into several honor societies, such as Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honor Society, Gamma Beta Phi Honors Society, and Order of Omega Greek Leadership Honor Society. At Xi Chapter, Thomas has served as the Philanthropy Chair, but most importantly, as an example to all his brothers of what can be achieved while striving for excellence. We wish Thomas the best of luck as he continues his academic career at Baylor College of Dentistry. Xi Alumni Association has awarded Roblee with the Neil Carothers Award, which is awarded annually in honor of Dr. Neil Carothers, the U of A and Kappa Sigma’s first Rhodes Scholar.
CONNER MCELVAIN Conner McElvain is a junior from Leawood, Kansas majoring Finance with a concentration in Investment Banking and a minor in Economics. He has served on the New Greek Council, Finance Club, as an ELC Tutor, as a Greek Life Facilitator, and as Manager of the U of A Tennis Team. Conner spent the Spring semester participating in the University of Arkansas Study Abroad Program and studied in Germany. He has served as the Assistant Treasurer at Xi Chapter. Conner has served as a tutor for freshman and sophomores in statistics and statistical analysis.

This year has brought drastic changes to the academic program at XI. While we have always placed the utmost importance on academics, our newest partnership with Campus Concierge, a local company in Fayetteville, has brought us the opportunity to be an academic role model for all of Greek life. XI is proud to be the only fraternity on campus to offer free tutoring to members through the XI Tutoring Fund, made possible by our alumni base. Now, members have access to tutoring for every class, a quiet place to study, and time management calendars with Campus Concierge. This company has been instrumental in improving our overall GPA and encouraging members to meet their full potential. We have also integrated this company into our pledgeship program. Each pledge is given a personalized calendar, including all their upcoming tests and homework dates, and when they should begin studying. Campus Concierge also proctors a study hall and sends a weekly report to the scholarship chair outlining the progress of each one individually. The feedback for this program has been extremely positive, and the outcome has been very impressive. For the past several years, the Charlie B. Whiteside scholarship has been awarded to four outstanding members of XI. This scholarship, made possible through the generosity of our distinguished alumni, offers $1000 to members that exemplify the qualities of a leader in XI and throughout campus. It is available to all members who have completed one academic year, maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.25, and are currently in good standing with the chapter. The current academic environment in every college is extremely challenging at best, and balancing school, social life, and several other things is no easy feat. But the men that make up our chapter were initiated because they showed all the qualities of the four pillars, including scholarship. These men have the capacity to succeed at everything they put their mind to, and have helped each other overcome feat after feat in the academic battle we all go through. With this character, and the tools that XI can bring them, there is no denying the impact these men with have on the community in the future.

Xi Foundation Report
Xi Chapter Alumni are committed to helping young men succeed both on campus and off. To that end, the Xi Chapter Alumni and Friends have established two separate vehicles to underwrite scholarships, a tutoring program, a lecture series, and to provide other educational aids to Xi Chapter and its undergraduates. On the occasion of the Centennial Celebration of Xi Chapter, chapter alumni and friends established the Charles B. Whiteside Scholarship Fund. This fund was established to recognize the tireless work of Charlie Whiteside, who has served as President of Xi Corporation and the Xi Alumni Association since April of 1974. The Whiteside Scholarships provide direct scholarship to undergraduates of Xi chapter. Since 1990, nearly $55,000 in scholarships have been awarded to deserving members of Xi Chapter. As part of the Xi Project 2000, the Xi Educational Foundation of Arkansas was established. This foundation is a 501-C3 educational endowment fund with a mission of helping to reduce educational costs for undergraduates of Xi chapter. Xi foundation underwrites the tutoring program at Xi chapter and also underwrites other educational expenses. When the foundation was created, the Xi Chapter Man-of-the-Year lecture series on the U of A campus was created. Every year, the foundation sponsors or helps sponsor a distinguished lecture that is coordinated by the colleges of Xi chapter’s five Kappa Sigma International Man-of-the-Year winners (Thomas J. Williams, Charles L. Massey, E. Fay Jones, Jerrel W. Jones, and Philip S. Anderson).
Xi Foundation Board Members George McLeod, Mike Smith, and Charlie Whiteside with the late John C. Cooper, Jr.
GEORGE McLEOD In 2013, longtime Xi Corporation Vice President George McLeod made a major gift to increase the combined assets of the two foundation to nearly $1 million. George, who retired in 2002 after 37 years as a financial advisor in the securities business, is a 1958 initiate and former Razorback football player. He has served as Vice President of Xi Corporation from April of 1974 through May of 2014. McLeod was one of the major donors to the Xi Project 2000 campaign and has quietly served in exemplary fashion over the last 40 years. George is a graduate of the Morgan Stanley Wharton Institute Executive Education Program at the University of Pennsylvania, a member of the Downtown Little Rock Rotary Club, a member of the Arkansas Community Foundation Board, and a past president of the Arkansas Symphony Foundation.

Xi chapter has initiated 1,270 men in the last 24 years – nearly 53 per year. In that time, these men have gone far and wide. Some have stayed, made their careers and raised families in Arkansas, while others have followed a different path. This year, Xi chapter recognizes two recent alumni for their accomplishments – Andrew Endicott and Clay Hamilton. While it is true that the quality of our initiates has been without peer throughout our history, the quality of Xi chapter graduates over the last 24 years has been exceptional. This year we are profiling two such alumni – one who is making his way in New York and another who has made his way back to Fayetteville.
Outstanding Young Alumni ANDREW ENDECOTT Andrew Endicott is a 2004 initiate of Xi chapter and a 2009 graduate of the University. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Walton College of Business and graduated from Harvard Law School in 2012. After a year practicing law for Willkie Farr and Gallagher, a corporate law firm in New York, Endicott has now landed in the global investment banking firm Lazard, where he helps advise companies on mergers and acquisitions transactions. This Lake Hamilton High School graduate was born in Meridian, MS and grew up in Hot Springs. While at Arkansas, Endicott was the outstanding graduate in Accounting and Finance, Student Alumni Board President, Mortar Board President, and Portfolio Manager of the Rebsamen Trust Fund. He was Grand Scribe, Secretary, for Xi chapter. The interpersonal skills learned away from the class room are invaluable to Andrew. “Living at 711 W. Dickson taught me how
CLAY HAMILTON Clay Hamilton graduated from the University in 1994 and has recently found his way back to Fayetteville. Originally from Little Rock, Hamilton is Senior Associate Athletic Director and CFO of Razorback Athletics. Prior to returning to Fayetteville, he had stops at the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Dallas Cowboys, Florida State University, the University of Colorado at Boulder, and also in corporate finance with ALLTEL Corporation.

to interact among the best, most confident people in a community (i.e., the U of A campus). At Fayetteville, the Kappa Sig house was where those people concentrated, in my opinion, and I don’t believe I would have had the opportunity to pick up those skills anywhere else had I not found them there. I also think those interactions and experiences continue to be essential to my success and comfort level in my current surroundings,” Endicott stated. Wall Street moves fast and the responsibility is extraordinary. “The biggest thing I didn’t expect is the degree of trust and responsibility I’ve been handed with the matters we work with. Even at an early stage such as my current one, in this job you handle things that no one reviews (nor could they), and if you mess up, it can have enormous, disastrous consequences. The gravity of that sort of obligation is something I never saw coming. But it’s also a huge thrill to be given responsibility and succeed.” Andrew has fond memories of Fayetteville, where one of these memories is Bid Day – “It was a surreal and exhilarating moment.” Tailgating in Little Rock, Duck Hunting, and catching up with his Kappa Sig friends are things he misses while being in New York.
accounting and sports administration degrees, along with a passion for athletics and higher education, and pursue a career in finance for an athletic program,” Hamilton said. In 2011, Arkansas Business name him in its annual 40 under 40. Hamilton has fond memories of his time in Fayetteville as well. It is no surprise that the Razorbacks are part of his undergraduate memory. During his senior year, the Razorbacks defeated Duke in the Final Four to win the National Championship in Basketball. “Some of the best memories in the house were planning and preparing for the events with pledge brothers – Haunted House, Row Week, Christmas at My Crib. Living in the house (or apartments behind the house) for 3 years was one of the highlights of my time on campus. Probably the fondest memory is Matt Meeks bouncing around in the snow on the lawn of the Kappa Sig House, acting out a scene from Dances With Wolves.”
“Kappa Sig helped open my eyes to goals and opportunities beyond what I may have otherwise set. Getting to know folks from different parts of the country and with different backgrounds and career goals, helped me develop a sense that there were opportunities out there beyond just being an accountant or just living in Arkansas. My career has taken me through professional sports, college athletics, and corporate finance; 6 states over a 15 year period; and ultimately back to my roots in Arkansas. “
On June 1, Hamilton joined Xi Corporation’s new President Martin Swope and the other new members and is now Vice President and Treasurer of Xi Corporation. “Clay brings great experience to our board and we are happy to have him serve with us,” Swope said.
It’s quite a list - An NBA team, NFL team, and 3 BCS athletic programs - all before reaching 40. “My goal was to combine the

When the fire alarm goes off at 1:00 A.M., I must rush to dress, answer the call from the fire alarm monitoring company and locate the station of the alarm on the monitoring box. I check to make sure the officers are shepherding everyone outside to safety (they are) and wait for them to check out the source. I sometimes think about an easier way to make a living. When multiple members are ill with a virus that has extreme symptoms over a period of ten days, and initially I’m not sure whether it warrants an emergency room visit or can be waited out, I think about the fact that it’s frightening to need that discretion. Or when someone comes into my office dripping blood or with a bone I fear is broken and does not want to go and have it checked out, I would like to be somewhere else. There are many incidents of this sort and others that, while potentially serious, are not usually life threatening and which happen many times during each year. And while I cannot deny that it is often stressful, it is also true that most always everything works out. The alarm was caused by a temporarily abandoned microwave preparing popcorn or a steamy shower. The smoke and the virus dissipate without lingering effects, bones are set and stitches applied, and a member may take my suggestion that they go directly to the health center so that the offending appendix is removed in time, (thank you, Sean!). But I am reminded that sadly, life does not always work out the way we want. Young people full of promise and talent and whom are beloved are sometimes taken through no fault of their own, and those who are left must learn to deal with that loss, much too soon. Attending the ceremony for the tree dedicated to Jacob Coleman’s memory, I was again reminded that the men of Xi are young men who truly care for one another and honor those who have gone before them, whether or not they knew them in life. I was proud of our young men who invested so much effort in planning and bringing about this event, for the thoughtful speaking at the dedication itself and the warm thoughts expressed to Jacob’s parents, Craig and Ronda Coleman. Each year, I am reminded anew that Xi Chapter is home to exceptional young men. I am privileged to serve as a second mom during this part of their lives as they grow their characters and strengths, and happy for the opportunity to make this a home to which they will want to return, again and again, throughout their lives.
Many of the present day photos in this report are the work of Brenda who loves preserving the moments and memories of the Xi Chapter and sharing our beautiful campus.

Mom’s CLUB
The purpose of Kappa Sigma Mom’s Club is to be a support network for the boys in the fraternity. We have a membership drive each fall and encourage all moms to sign up. We have over 125 active moms and look forward to having 100% participation the next few years. Mom’s Club began a database in the spring and going forward all our newsletters and information will be sent via email. The chapter has grown so much over the past few years – mail outs have become too voluminous. That’s a good thing! Each spring Mom’s club hosts their annual Mom’s Day. This is a special time for moms to gather with their sons and enjoy an afternoon at the fraternity house. In addition to food and entertainment, there is a silent auction with items for the silent auction being donated by the moms. We use the money from Mom’s Day to fund the boys’ requests for improvements and or additions to the house. This is our only fundraising event. Moms Club activities include decorating the fraternity house at Christmas, providing snacks and meals during finals and financially assisting the boys when they need extra money for an event. We also co-host a parent weekend during football season and assist the boys with their Christmas Open House. Our projects for the 2013-2014 school year included having the huge trees around the house trimmed and shaped due to the prior year’s ice storm damage. We also had the front lawn and beds spruced up and added a couple of new beds. Purchased outdoor tables and chairs for the patio and volleyball areas and purchased furniture for the basement to compliment the pool table and flat screen TV donated by an alum. Julie Roblee and I just completed our seventh and final year volunteering with Mom’s Club. Our boys happen to be the same age – our oldest sons pledged in 2007 and our youngest just graduated this past spring (2014)! Kappa Sigma has been such a tremendous influence in our sons’ lives. The fraternity is a home away from home for boys new to campus. The house mom Brenda Rea (Mom B) lives in the KE house and is available to address any and all inquiries your son (or YOU!) may have. Kappa Sig encourages scholarship, leadership, citizenship and service as well as a big dose of Brotherhood. Your sons will meet lifelong brothers and will carry the attitudes and ideals they learned at Kappa Sigma with them the rest of their lives. Please look for your email in the fall and become an active part in Kappa Sigma Mom’s Club. You will be able to meet the parents of your son’s friends and will know what’s going on in your sons’ lives. It’s been a wonderful experience for us and I know it will be for your family too.

DAD’S Report Kappa Sigma hosted its annual Dad’s day this year on September 28th. The brothers invited their dad’s to the house to for the annual tailgate. The whole experience was one that fathers and sons will always remember. Everyone ate some great barbeque and then got to watch the Arkansas Razorbacks take on Johnny Manziel and the Texas A&M Aggies. The annual fathers day is something that each member looks forward to every year, and we believe the dads look forward to it just as much! Thank you to all the dads that come and participated this year.

Xi Corporation Report Xi Corporation was established April 30, 1931 in Fayetteville Arkansas to manage the property at 711 W. Dickson and to serve as the Alumni Association for Xi chapter at the University of Arkansas. George Vaughan was the first President and followed by several other distinguished men including Tom Cutting, Doug Smith Sr., Gene Williams, and Charles Whiteside, III. In 1975, Xi Corporation moved its center of operations from Fort Smith to Little Rock. In June of 2014, Xi Corporation returned to Fayetteville when Martin Swope was named President of Xi Corporation and Xi Alumni Association. Swope is a 1991 initiate who is only the second man to ever serve as GM of Xi Chapter for two consecutive years. Nat Ryan Hughes was the first in the 1920s. Martin is originally from Lincoln, Arkansas and makes his home now in Fayetteville with his wife Heather and children Blakely and Beckham. Xi chapter would like to thank Charlie Whiteside, George McLeod, Mike Smith, Wyck Nisbet, and Mike Miller for their many years of service as officers of Xi Corporation. The chapter is in the position it is in today due to their years of dedication, their passion and commitment to the chapter and our undergraduate members. Charlie, George, Mike, and Wyck continue to serve on the board for Xi Foundation and will continue to offer advice and counsel to Martin and the new board. Xi Educational Found will still send out annual fund solicitations and those are managed by the Xi Foundation Board of Directors. XI CORPORATION NEW MAILING ADDRESS:

Reunion Alumni 2014 A group of Little Rock alumni from the 1940s, 50s & 60s held a reunion on May 23rd to celebrate the beginning of Xi chapter’s 125th year and to announce the end of a 40-year run. The event has roots back to the 1920s, when statewide reunions began in Little Rock to support the purchase of our property at 711 West Dickson. The 1952 pledge class restored this reunion tradition to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2002. This year’s event was organized by Henry Broach and Guy Campbell, who worked with groups from the 1940s through the most recent alumni to fill the banquet hall at the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock. There were initiates from the 1940s and every subsequent decade, and even one from 2010 in attendance. With approximately 120 at the Luncheon, this year’s attendees included former Congressman Ed Bethune (1958), 1998 Kappa Sigma Man-of-the-Year Philip Anderson (1952), Arkansas Attorney General (1991) Dustin McDaniel, and a host of other alumni representing eight decades of initiates. Tom Choate Sr, Tom Choate, Jr., and Tyler Choate represented three generations of their family at this event. As part of this event, Charlie Whiteside, long-time Xi Corporation President, announced he would be stepping down from his post after 40 years on the job. During his remarks, Whiteside spoke of the changes in the chapter, chapter house, University and the National Fraternity. He thanked those who had served alongside him and offered sage advice for those who will serve in the future. Whiteside will continue to serve as President of the Xi Educational Foundation. At the end of the program, Henry Broach and Guy Campbell announced that the event will become a biennial event in Little Rock with the next event to be held in 2016.
