Dear Brothers, Alumni , and Rushees , The Long Range Planning Committee is proud to present this year's annual report. Each member of the committee has worked to provide you with an accurate account of Xi Chapter' s 1993-94 accomplishments. Once again, the chapter has surpassed its goals with much success.

Xi Chapter History Xi Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity , the oldest fraternity on the campus of the University of Arkansas, has been an integral part of the University's life since the chapter's colonization on May 29 , 1890. Dr. Charles Richardson, an initiate of the Omicron Chapter in Emory, Virginia, was Xi 's founder and first Grand Master.

In addition to Richardson, the original group of men who helped Xi Chapter to grow and flourish in its early years included John Clinton Futrall , Carl Clinton Miller, William Alfred Crawford , William Shields Goodwin, and George Bernard Pugh.

In an effort to comply with rules forbidding secret societies , the members of Xi deferred wearing badges and met as the Richardson Club for several years in the early 1900's. Despite continuing problems , Xi Chapter continued to expand. In 1921 , after years of moving around , the chapter found a permanent home at 711 West Dickson, becoming the first fraternity to own and operate its own house on campus. In 1931, on Homecoming weekend, the current chapter house was dedicated. Since then , several additions have been made.

After World War II, the chapter experienced a swell in its membership because of the soldiers corning home.

At one time there was a membership of over 225 men, making Xi the largest chapter of any fraternity in the world. This swell in membership earned us the nickname "Fabulous" Xi, a name that is still used today.

In Xi's 104 years of existence at the U of A Xi Chapter has initiated many great men. John Clinton Futrall, one of the original founders, went on to become president of the University for 26 years, nearly twice as long as any other president in University of Arkansas history. Another of the original five founders, William Shields Goodwin, went on to serve in Congress for over ten years. Our list of initiates goes on and on. Jerry Jones, owner of the World Champion Dallas Cowboys, is Kappa Sigma's current Man of the Year and the fourth Xi initiate to be so honored by the national fraternity.

Now, after over a century of existence and prestige, the "Fabulous" Xi chapter of Kappa Sigma holds the same place it did when it began - setting the standards for excellence.

Throughout our 104 years of existence we have gained a long and impressive list of alumni ; however, none are more important to us than brothers D. Malcolm McNair, Jr. and Charles B. Whiteside ID. These two men have been part of the driving force behind Xi 's success in recent years.

Both men come from a long and rich history of service to Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma. Charles Whiteside Jr., father of Charles Whiteside ID, was President of the Xi Corporation and David M. McNair, Sr., father of D. Malcolm McNair, Jr. , was Treasurer of the Xi Corporation for many years.

Brother Whiteside served as Grand Master in his years as an active at Xi chapter, but he did not limit his leadership or love for the house to his years in school. In 1973 Whiteside was handed the reins of Xi Corporation, our chapter's strongly supported alumni association.

Alumnus advisor Malcolm McNair Jr. and Xi Corp. president Charlie Whiteside ill have been instrumental to Xi's success.

Whiteside's continual support of the house and his drive to see that Kappa Sigma is the best fraternity on the University of Arkansas campus, is a major part of our success. C11arles Whiteside, ID was awarded a special award from the National fraternity for his lifetime of work with Xi Chapter.

In the fall of 1986 Fayetteville resident and 1969 Xi initiate Malcolm McNair became Xi's alumnus advisor.

Despite his busy schedule working in the University's law school as director of development and alumni relations, Malcolm has done more for us than we could ever possibly imagine. He is a vital part of our chapter's inner workings. In addition, he recently became our district's Assistant District Grand Master.

In his years as Alumnus Advisor, Malcolm has been recognized by Kappa Sigma National Headquarters as the 1987 Outstanding First Year Volunteer, as well as being voted Kappa Sigma Alumnus Advisor of the year in 1989 and 1993. In 1990 and 1994 he was named the U A Alumnus Advisor of the Year.

As is evident by his numerous awards and devotion to this fraternity and its members, Malcolm is owed more than he can ever be returned.

It is truly rewarding to be a part of an organization with such dedicated and hard working men as Malcolm and Charlie. It is with honest care and loyalty to their fraternity that they see to it that "Fabulous" Xi will live forever and never die.

A Letter From The President Dear Friends and Brothers, The 1993-94 school year was an exciting one for the men of the "Fabulous" Xi chapter of Kappa Sigma. For the second year in a row Kappa Sigma earned the Intrafraternity Council Award of Excellence. This being a newly developed award, we were the first, and have been the only fraternity on the University of Arkansas campus to win it. This award is presented to the fraternity which excels in many facets of Greek life, including excellence in the pledge program, community service, interfraternity relations, scholarship, and other areas. In addition to this we received the awards for pledge class excellence, community service, campus involvement, and intramurals.

As president, I am very proud of these accomplishments. I am most proud, however, of the sense of accomplishment that all the members feel as they participate in fraternity activities. During the Martin Swope 1993-94 school year Kappa Sigma enjoyed having unprecedented success by having eleven organization presidents, including Intrafraternity Council, Arkansas Booster Ch,1b, Mortar Board, GAMMA, Beta Alpha Psi, Cardinal Key, Cardinal :XXX, Order of Omega, and numerous other academic organizations. Michael Oonk, a recent initiate, received the Panhellenic Pledge Scholarship Award, and for the second consecutive year Kappa Sigma has had the outstanding graduate of the College of Business (Brian Cahalan).

At Kappa Sigma's recent Biennial Grand Conclave in Dallas, Texas, Xi was presented with 16 awards, including the Founders Award for Chapter Excellence for the third consecutive year. Currently, we are the most decorated chapter of Kappa Sigma in the nation. In the fall, at our annual awards banquet, thirteen of our members won Scholarship/Leadership awards given annually from the endowment fund of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

On February 5, 1994 we initiated 30 men. There are now fourteen spring pledges. We are always looking for the best to pledge our fraternity, and I am looking forward to this year's rdsh with the expectations that it will be the best ever.

Kappa Sigma depends for its success on the continued support of Charlie Whiteside, Malcolm McNair, and Phil Schoettlin. I appreciate them, and the whole fraternity joins me in thanking them for their hard work.

Fraternity life has never been stronger on the University of Arkansas campus, and Kappa Sigma continues to be a strong positive influence on the lives of its members.

Acadeniics: The Foundation of Kappa Signia Kappa Sigma has enjoyed the highest grade point average for any men's group on campus both semesters of last year. In the spring of 1993 , Kappa Sigma' s GPA was 2.87 which was higher than the all fraternity average of 2.81 and the all men's average of 2.68. In the fall of 1993 , Kappa Sigma again obtained the highest GPA with a 2.79 while the all fraternity average was 2.70 and the all men 's average was 2.62.

Kappa Sigma assists members and pledges in achieving their academic goals with alumni sponsored tutoring.

This program provides free tutoring in any subject for individuals desiring additional assistance in classes.

Kappa Sigma also organizes an in-house committee called the academic advisory committee, to directly assist pledges in their transition.from high school to college. The committee consists of the scholarship chairman, the pledge's Big Brother, and at least one member with the same related major. The committee provides the pledge with career or course counseling and oversees the pledge's progress in his various classes.

Kappa Sigma provides its members and pledges with the latest technology. Kappa Sigma now has a deluxe computer room.

The computer room consists of two 486 IBM compatible computers. One of the computers is networked into the University's mainframe so that individuals not only have access to the software packages available at the fraternity house but also software available at the university without having to leave the house. The second computer is a multimedia computer presenting volumes of information to members and pledges on CD-ROM.

Kappa Sigma rewards this excellent academic achievement with scholarships and awards. Last semester members of our chapter of Kappa Sigma were awarded nearly 25 % of all academic awards offered by our national fraternity totalling over $7 ,000 . Twelve members were also recognized for both their scholarship and leadership contributions to the fraternity with awards at last fall 's awards banquet, more than any of the 204 chapters of Kappa Sigma.

Each year Kappa Sigma has increased its financial assistance to reward individuals for their hard work and diligence toward academic excellence. Our programs and assistance are provided to our members and pledges to generate the work ethic and the determined attitude necessary to prosper in the times to come.

Rush

By Darby York As last year's Head Rush Chairman and a senior I realize how important Rush is to Kappa Sigma. Rush is, as we call it, the "Lifeblood of the Fraternity." Xi Chapter's rush program has been recognized by the Kappa Sigma Fraternity with a national award for the past two years. Xi Chapter's rush is committed to quality and excellence.

A Kappa Sigma pledge class consists of pride, tradition, and excellence not in just a few areas, but in all aspects of college life.

The most important area of emphasis is academics.

Each pledge must take pride in the principles of Kappa Sigma established and nurtured at 711 W. Dickson.

These principles remain with our members throughout life.

They must also take it upon themselves to learn dilligently and zealously the traditions of the oldest fraternity on the University of Arkansas campus. These are principles and traditions that they will share with the other 2,392 men that "Fabulous" Xi has initiated in its 104 years.

In 1993 Kappa Sigma pledged another great pledge class, which consisted of 42 men. For the third consecutive

year Xi has had the largest pledge class on campus. However, Quality rather than Quantity is always our goal.

Xi's 1993 pledge class had a higher average grade point and ACT score coming out of high school than any other fraternity pledge class on campus. They were also involved in such areas as community service, campus involvement, social events, and intramurals. In recognition of their various achievements the 1993 pledge class was awarded the IFC Pledge Class Excellence award, the second year in a row that Kappa Sigma has received this award.

This summer will prove to be another opportunity for Xi Chapter to continue its "Fabulous" rush. Our row party, Bacchanalian, served as our first rush event with over 75 rushees attending. This year's Head Rush Chairman, Brad Clapp, will be assisted by several area Rush Chairmen that cover the five areas of Arkansas and areas outside the state. Xi Chapter is hoping to carry on its ''Second Century of Tradition'' with great success.

Many smaller rush functions are held at the homes of alumni. Alumni, and rushees are encouraged to attend. Recommendations from alumni for any rushees are also greatly appreciated.

If you are a candidate for rush this fall , we would like to invite you to consider Kappa Sigma. We hope this report gives you insight into Kappa Sigma and fraternity life in general. An important decision lies ahead of you, and we hope to provide any information that will assist you in making an intelligent decision. If you would like to attend a rush function , or if you have any questions , please call any of the Rush Chairmen.

I sincerely hope that every rushee will respond to the opportunity to learn about Kappa Sigma, an organization that builds its brotherhood and strength by recruiting the finest young men available. None of these goals could be accomplished without the leadership of the actives, the support of Xi Corporation, and the strength of the "Fabulous" Xi alumni. If you can accept the challenges of high goals and expectations, then Kappa Sigma is for you and can grant you rewards for a lifetime.

Social Calendar

By Chase Pinkston and Tommy Donoho III Kappa Sigmas are known for their academic, philanthropic, and intramural abilities . However, ask anyone and they will tell you that the men of Xi chapter always manage to have fun. Social Chairmen Shea Peterson and Chase Pinkston managed to keep us busy throughout the year, filling our social calendars with many new parties, and even a few old favorites .

The social calendar for the 93-94 school year kicked off a week before school with our annual bid day party in the back yard, where our new pledges were made to feel welcome at 711 West Dickson. That next weekend we joined with the men of Phi Delta Theta and held a bid day party at River City for all of the sororities.

The second week of school we held "R.1.0.," which lasted for three days. Throughout the semester we held a variety of hall parties and date functions such as Southern Skies, which was held at Beaver Lake where the brothers and their dates cooked-out, camped, and enjoyed the music of Gypsy. We once again held our annual Bottom of the Bowl party with the women of Chi Omega; a good time was had by all.

Brothers, parents, and alumni all gathered at the house for each of the three Razorback games to enjoy Mom Foti's cooking, the games, and the parties that followed. Homecoming fell on Halloween this year, so we postponed our annual Halloween party for one year and decorated for homecoming with a Halloween theme.

As the end of the semester drew near we held a Christmas party for teachers and guests.

To begin the spring semester, both members and pledges grabbed dates and held a bowling date dash the first week of school.

Our sixth annual Winter Olympics party was held with the women of Delta Delta Delta, and was actually during the Winter Olympics! Then our annual formal was held in Osage Beach, Missouri, at one of the local resorts.

Throughout the year we held various S.H.I.T. (So Happy It's Thursday) parties with many of the sororities. St. Patrick's Day was, fortunately for us, not during spring break this year; so we had a very festive Irish party with the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority . Next, we got together with the Kappa Kappa Gammas and held Spring Training at the local sports park.

Despite all of these functions, the house was ready for the biggest Row Week ever. We built for two weeks and planned for two months to create the best atmosphere possible for this year's Bacchanalian. The back lot looked like a jungle complete with a waterfall pouring off the house.

We began our party on Wednesday with the women of Pi Beta Phi and Rick Hancock, a local country singer.

Thursday was our date night with Gypsy where members and dates ate and danced most of the night.

Saturday afternoon we listened to local favorite Wendy Austin and had a crawfish cookout, compliments of the dads of brothers Matt Lyle and Shea Peterson. That night, the men of Kappa Sigma, and their guests danced and partied through the night to the music of Dash RipRock.

The University of Arkansas has always been known for having a very fine and highly competitive intramural program that is open to all students willing to participate. Intramurals are taken very seriously , and always have a large turnout.

This year, Kappa Sigma is proud to be the University of Arkansas ' intramural champions. The men of Kappa Sigma have always been highly involved with the intramural program and have excelled at many of the events. Determination, diligence, and excellence on the part of both the fans and players has put Kappa Sigma in the number one spot. This is where Kappa Sigma deserves to be.

Brother Allen Freeman held the position of intramural chairman for the house for both the fall and spring semesters. His dedication to his job and organization has helped the brothers to know where they are supposed to be and at what times. He has also formed teams of the most capable men to perform the sports and made the events known so both fans and players could be at the games. This kind of brotherly support has made it possible for the house to be number one. lntramurals have also opened up opportunities for the men to participate with the sororities on campus in co-ed sports.

In the fall semester we combined our efforts with the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma to come in second in Xi's points softball team hard at work. flag football. In the - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ' spring we joined with the women of Pi Beta Phi to form a very successful softball team. These were fun-filled events with large turnouts. Fabulous Xi has shown through the rest to be number one, and is very proud of this accomplishment. The men at 711 W. Dickson take great pride in being Kappa Sigmas.

By Shannon Fancher Academics and campus involvement are key priorities for Kappa Sigmas once the school year is under way.

There are no empty days at the Kappa Sigma house. Whether it is attending a football game in the fall, a skiing trip to Colorado over Christmas break, or a journey to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the Final Four, the men of Kappa Sigma always manage to have the most fun possible.

Many brothers share a wide array of hobbies. Sports are at the top of the list when it comes to entertainment, playing in intramural events, or watching a game on television. A warm afternoon may find brothers in the sun playing volleyball in the backyard sand court or playing football on the front lawn of Old Main. When the weekends roll around, many brothers will spend their evenings enjoying the numerous eating and social establishments that Fayetteville has to offer. On Sunday mornings many brothers can be found attending local churches for worship. It is well known that Kappa Sigma is a fraternity based and founded upon the Holy Bible.

Whether it be skiing, socializing, golf, intramurals, canoeing, volleyball , dating , going to church or studying with brothers or dates , the brothers and pledges of Kappa Sigma enjoy one another's company just like family.

Kappa Sigmas are a special and diverse group of men. Because of our diversity, the brotherhood is very strong.

By Eric Clemons BRIAN CAHALAN Brian is a senior from Kansas City , Kansas, completing a degree in business management with an emphasis in computer information systems while maintaining a 3.7 GPA . He has been named the Outstanding Student in Business Administration and is the top graduating senior in the management department. He has received the Thomas J . Williams Award from Kappa Sigma' s national headquarters , 1 of 28 nationally , and has received the William C. Baker Award recognizing Brian as one of the top ten Kappa Sigma' s in the nation. He has been on the Business College Dean' s list for seven consecutive semesters , has been selected for Who' s Who On American Universities and Campuses, and was 1992's Outstanding Intramural Athlete. He has been president of Mortar Board, the top honor society on campus, and has been a member of several other honor societies , including Gamma Beta Phi , Order of Omega, Cardinal Key , Blue Key , Golden Key , of which he was treasurer , and was ....__ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ___.... one of Beta Gamma Sigma' s Business College top seniors. He has been chairman of the Emerging Leaders Mentor Program, has served as representative to the Arkansas Booster Club, and was a member of the Interfraternity Judicial Board. For Xi, Brian has served as Grand Procurator and Intramural Chairman .

DUSTIN McDANIEL 路 Dustin is a senior from Jonesboro completing a degree in public administration . He began as Xi's representative to IFC , then served as IFC's representative to Panhellenic Council, IFC Treasurer, and last year served as IFC President. He has served as an Emerging Leaders mentor ....__ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ __. after being one of only 24 students on campus to be a member of Emerging Leaders the year before. Dustin has been a member of the Freshman Involvement Committee and Junior Greek.

RODDY LOCHALA Rod is a senior from Newport completing a degree in microbiology . He is currently the vice president of Mortar Board, the top honor society on campus, and he has also been a member of Golden Key Honor Society, Arkansas Booster Club, Gamma Beta Psi , and Alpha Epsilon Delta, the pre-med honor society . He has also been the recipient of the J. Reimer Espy Scholarship-Leadership award from Kappa Sigma' s national headquarters. For Xi , Rod has served as Grand Master of Ceremonies.

CLAY HAMILTON BRIAN TAYLOR Brian is a senior from North Little Rock completing a degree in mechanical engineering . He has been a member of Gamma Beta Psi, the Freshman Involvement Committee, and the Society of Automotive Engineers.

He has appeared on both the Dean' s and Chancellor's List. As a freshman, Brian was named the model fraternity pledge for the entire U of A Greek system by Order of Omega, the Greek honor society. For Xi, Brian has served as a rush chairman for three semesters.

Clay is a senior from Little Rock completing a degree in accounting while currently maintaining a 3.4 GPA. He has served as an orientation leader and as a new student mentor. He has been a member of the National Society of Public Accountants, and Beta Alpha Psi , the accounting honor society. He has been honored by receiving the Orientation Excellence Scholarship and the Charles B. Whiteside Scholarship.

For Xi, Clay has served as Grand Treasurer, Assistant Grand Scribe, Assistant Intramural Chairman, and as a long range planning committee member.

Mike is a senior from Plano, Texas, majoring in Marketing / Tran portation and International Economics . He is graduating with a 3.57 GPA and is the recipient of the Oren Harri Scholarship, which is given to the top five students in his department of business . ALLEN FREEMAN Allen , a senior from Richardson , Texas , is completing a degree in microbiology. He has served as President of the Arkansas Booster Club, as well as Homecoming Chair, Escort, and Midnight Madness Master of Ceremonies.

He was President of the Officials Club, and ASG ' - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ' Off-Campus Senator, and an IFC Rho Chi . Allen has also served as a mentor for TNT, and Co-Facilitator for Greek Colloquium. For Xi , Allen has served as an academic advisor, and this year's Intramural Chairman .

BEN LUPER Ben is a sophomore from Fayetteville majoring in accounting and is currently maintaining a 3.5 GPA .

He has been a member of Gamma Beta Phi and has served as a student representative on the academic standards board. ROBERT CULLEN Robert is a freshman from Greenwood majoring in zoology and minoring in psychology, while currently maintaining a 3.8 GPA. He was one of a select group of freshmen to be honored by being chosen for the Emerging Leaders Program last year. He has been a member of the Arkansas Booster Club, the Undergraduate Biological Society, and will be serving on the Interfraternity Judicial Board next year. Campus Athletes Mark French Though not on a field of play , Mark is a very visible Razorback.

Since his transfer from Hendrix College he has been a member of the varsity Razorback cheerleading squad. Even though he has traveled throughout the country cheering for the Hogs, Mark has been able to stay active in campus activities and also be successful in the classroom.

Matt Wait Matt is a freshman walk-on football player from Springs as a kicker. The coaches were very impressed with Matt ' s kicking . Because Matt was red shirted this year, we will be anxiously awaiting his debut during the 1994 season.

Scott Rivers Coming out of high school, Scott was a very highly sought after football player. Coaches from teams such as Notre Dame and Michigan were coming to Benton, Arkansas to try to induce this lineman to their respective universities . Their loss was the University of Arkansas ' and Kappa Sigma's gain. After being red shirted his first year and spending last year gaining experience from veteran linemen, Scott seems to be poised to start in the Razorbacks' centennial season.

Mark Peacock Mark is a freshman on Nonn DeBriyn's nationally respected baseball team. As with most freshmen he was red shirted to gain a year of maturity and 'experience without losing any eligibility . We look forward to seeing Mark behind the plate next season when the Razorbacks move into their new home.

Colillllunity Service

By Vince Jones The Fabulous Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma strives for excellence in every aspect of fraternity life. We are very proud of our accomplishments in the area of community service. Last year we donated more than 2,200 hours and over $2 ,000 to various organizations in Northwest Arkansas. These efforts were directed by Philanthropy Chairmen Mac Campbell and Vince Jones. Our community service effort not only make Northwest Arkansas a better place to live, but also allow us to grow and improve ourselves as individuals.

The chapter is involved in community service activities throughout the year.

The Christmas party for the Richardson Center continues to be a favorite of both the Richardson Center children and the members of Kappa Sigma. The annual party is held with the Pi Beta Phi sorority. It includes homemade cookies provided by Mom Foti, presents for all the children, and a visit from Santa Claus. The Richardson Center is also the site of another favorite activity , the Annual Easter Egg Hunt. The women of Chi Omega joined us to hide eggs for the children and to provide each child with an Easter Basket and candy.

Other activities throughout the year included a newspaper drive with the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, a trick-or-treat for cans on Halloween, Adopt A Park, and the Adopt A Highway program. Many organizations were beneficiaries of work done by Kappa Sigmas. These organizations include: The Fayetteville Nursing Center, Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northwest Arkansas, Habitat For Humanity , American Red Cross, and The Willow Community Children's Center.

A benefit volleyball tournament and cookout will be held during the spring semester. This tournament was held April 30. The proceeds go to the UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock. A softball tournament is also being planned for the spring of 1995. The money raised from the softball tournament will go to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Kappa Sigma's community service efforts were very successful this year. However, we are constantly searching for new and better ways to serve the community . Next year promises to be very exciting and bring even higher levels of service from the men of Kappa Sigma.

February 25, 1989, marks a memorable date in Dallas Cowboy history. It is the day Jerry Jones purchased the Cowboys from H.R. "Bum" Bright and began to turn a struggling Dallas team into Super Bowl champions. In four short years , the Cowboys went from a 1-15 season to winning the Super Bowl twice in a row. The man mainly responsible for this meteoric rise is Jerry Jones.

Brother Jones' football history dates back to his childhood. He was a star running back at North Little Rock High School

and received a scholarship from the University of Arkansas. In 1964, Jones was the co-captain and starting guard of the team that went 11-0 to win the National Championship.

Jones' teammate and road roommate was Jimmy Johnson, the first coach hired

by Jones to coach the Cowboys.

Brother Jones has been an excellent example for Kappa Sigmas everywhere, and there is no doubt that he will continue to carry on the ''Fabulous Xi'' traditions of leadership and excellence.

Other Kappa Sigma Men of the Year Thomas J. Williams, A 1910 Xi initiate, was the 1954 Kappa Sigma Man-of-the-Year. Williams became a prominent businessman in Argentina and at the time of his death was thought to be the wealthiest American in South America. In 1984 Charles L. Massey , Jr. became the second Xi initiate to win the Man-of-the-Year award. He was a 1942 initiate and later became national president of the March of Dimes Foundation.

E. Fay Jones, A 1939 initiate, was named Kappa Sigma Man-of-the-Year during Xi's Centennial Year (1990). Fay is a world-renowned architect. He was presented the American Institute of Architects' Gold Medal for lifetime achievement by President George Bush and Prince Charles of England in February of 1990.

Mary Kathryn Vanhook Every year, a young lady is selected by the members of Kappa Sigma as the Kappa Sigma Sweetheart. She is chosen for her dedication and assistance to the fraternity . The 1993-1994 Sweetheart is Miss Mary Kathryn Vanhook. Mary Kathryn is a member of Chi Omega sorority. She pledged in the fall of 1991 . She has served as both treasurer and house manager for her sorority. A junior majoring in accounting , she is currently Vice-President of Beta Alpha Psi , the accounting honor society. She is from Newport where her family currently lives. Her father , Robert Vanhook, was a Kappa Sigma at the University of Arkansas from 1965 to 1969. Mary Kathryn was selected as our sweetheart for the many things she does for our fraternity. She provides tutoring to the men of Kappa Sigma; she also makes it a point to invite other people, young ladies and future rushees , to the house and , make them feel welcome. We at Kappa Sigma salute our 1993-94 Kappa Sigma Sweetheart.
