HOW DO YOU CONSTRUCT A CONCRETE WALKWAY? Start by following these very easy suggestions from a seasoned concrete contractor: 1. PLACE THE PEDESTRIAN PATH IN THE EXCAVATION Before building the concrete walkway, Paint the boundaries to mark them. Once the path has been clearly marked, work can begin to dig up grass, debris, and other tenacious roots.

2. ERECT WOODEN FORMS Build your shapes with the proper strength to prevent them from collapsing or bulging. With the exception of curves, construct the forms for the sides using thick boards (about 1/2 inch to 1 inch).

3. POSITION THE STAKES BELOW THE TOPS OF THE FORMS. Maintain the stakes underneath the forms to screed with the fewest obstacles possible. The concrete cannot be smoothed because of stakes that stick out over the forms.

4. CONCRETE FINISHING Dredge deep control or expansion joints throughout the walkway to stop concrete from cracking due to expansion and contraction. Use a groover and straightedge while the concrete is still soft to complete this task. Five feet should separate the control joints.
