EDITORIAL - The Fragrance of Landscape

On this six-hectare land nestled in the heart of Bali, the landscape is not a background. It is a pulse, a breath, a story told through leaves, textures, and scents. Each plant sourced and selected for this project carries with it a memory not only of nature, but of the soul of Indonesia.
This garden began with a scent. Or rather, with a series of fragrances deeply rooted in the sensory heritage of the archipelago. Jasmine in the early evening. The sharpness of ginger leaf. The warmth of damp earth after the monsoon. These notes are not decorative they are foundational. They guide the guest like an invisible compass, offering emotion before understanding, feeling before form.
The landscape unfolds with humility, following the natural curves of the terrain, never resisting its topography but embracing it. Some areas are cultivated for tea, for rituals, for touch. Others are simply sculpted to breathe, offering moments of stillness and shadow.
At the heart of the property, the pool house emerges like a mirage, partially consumed by cascades of bougainvillea. These unruly blooms are the voice of the garden bold, wild, untamed. Around the pool, trees with exposed roots and muscular trunks rise like vegetal sculptures, their shadows drawing patterns on stone from morning to dusk. At night, light becomes part of the choreography. Every branch becomes a line. Every flicker becomes part of a greater composition.
Then, a rupture deliberate and surprising. In the VIP area, the visitor is transported. A cluster of bottle trees rises like sentinels, echoing distant African landscapes. Behind them, a dense line of palms guards the memory of the tropics. This unexpected duality becomes a gesture of poetry the collision of two worlds, joined by silence.
Throughout the estate, we sought to compose with restraint and intention. Every leaf, every trunk, every curve is a letter in a sentence that speaks of balance between wilderness and design, between memory and presence, between the outer world and the intimacy of a place.
This book is a tribute to that balance and to the emotions that landscapes can evoke when they are not just seen, but felt.
