XAVIER LOUP × BLEUTONE BLEUTONE was born from a dialogue — between cultures, materials, and the hands that shape them.

A meeting between contemporary precision and the poetry of Asian craftsmanship. Before becoming a collection, BLEUTONE is a philosophy: objects imagined as atmospheres, sculptural gestures, and cultural fragments crafted with intention.

My creative path began in landscape architecture, where rhythm, light, and material create emotion. BLEUTONE is the intimate continuation of this mindset — the translation of atmosphere into the scale of the everyday.

The 2025 Collection embraces this spirit: woven textures, carved woods, sculpted ceramics, and natural fibers that stand between modernity and heritage. These objects are not decorative elements — they hold memory, craft, and the quiet beauty of time.

In BLEUTONE, everything begins with the hand. The hand that weaves, sculpts, polishes, carves, knots, and perfects. A hand that reveals time rather than erasing it. A hand that understands rhythm, tension, and sensitivity.

Each object reflects a philosophy of patience, authenticity, and the quiet beauty of materials shaped by human hands. Here, craft is not a technique; it is a language.

This philosophy unfolds through four pillars: the Gesture, the Material, the Culture, and the Vision.

It collaborates, learns, listens. It honors craftsmanship without romanticizing it. It brings contemporary design together with deep-rooted savoir-faire, creating a dialogue that is sincere and mutually enriching.

A home designed like a boutique hotel — intimate yet generous.

Rooted in the Soul of the Island The creative process began with the land itself, its mineral palette, its raw textures, its rhythm of sun and salt.

Rather than imposing style, the Maison XLS team sought resonance: a balance of terracotta tones, muted greens, and stone surfaces that seem to breathe the Mediterranean air.

Nothing shouts; everything whispers or murmurs.

Design as Architecture Early on, the team realised that the scale of the project would be defined not by its walls, but by its

furniture.

By designing oversized, custommade pieces, they shifted the perception of volume.

An eight-metre-long sofa stretches across the main terrace like a horizon line a social sculpture where everyone eventually ends up.

Nearby, a vast modular table welcomes up to twenty-two guests; chairs alternate with asymmetrical benches, breaking rhythm and formality in favour of effortless conviviality.

These gestures blur the boundary between décor and structure furniture as social architecture.

The Time of Lacquer Vietnam’s Legacy of Patience, Silence & Light In Vietnam, lacquer is more than a material, it is a living substance shaped by time, breath, and devotion.

Each layer is an act of patience.

Each gesture is a meditation.

Each surface reveals the quiet soul of a craft carried through centuries.

Vietnam is one of the last places in the world where lacquer is still cultivated as an art of slowness.

THE ENCOUNTER WITH VIETNAM My encounter with Vietnam and its lacquer masters was not loud — it was a revelation made of silence.

In their ateliers, the day begins with intention.

A bowl of sơn ta (natural lacquer resin harvested from the lacquer tree), tools worn by years of use, and artisans whose gestures feel almost ancestral.

In its workshops, time behaves differently:

The air hums with the whisper of a brush,

the rhythm softens, the air thickens with resin, and silence becomes part of the process.

the soft glide of a metal spatula, the meticulous sanding of a surface that will be polished a hundred times. Every gesture carries its own rhythm, passed down through generations of artisans whose hands speak a language older than memory.

Here, beauty is not produced — it is grown.

A MATERIAL WITH A SOUL

Craft as Active Meditation Nothing is rushed.

No movement is spontaneous; each action feels anchored, deliberate, guided by a collective breath shared between artisans.

Watching them work is witnessing active meditation: a silent dialogue between hand, substance, and time.

Vietnamese lacquer begins in nature — on the bark of the lacquer tree (Rhus succedanea), tapped slowly to extract its precious resin drop by drop. This raw sap is alive, sensitive to humidity, light, and touch. It reacts, darkens, deepens, transforms.

This is why each workshop cultivates its own alchemy: unique blends of resin, pigments, natural earth powders, and traditional techniques refined over decades.

A choreography where discipline creates freedom and slowness becomes a source of beauty.

Lacquer is not merely applied. It is grown layer by layer — dozens of layers, sometimes more than a hundred — each one sanded, polished, hydrated, each one carrying a trace of the artisan’s patience.

The result is a depth impossible to imitate: a surface that absorbs and releases light, changing with the hour, the season, the gesture of a passing hand.

THE CHOREOGRAPHY OF TOOLS Lacquer artisans live among tools that feel almost ceremonial.

Some are as delicate as feathers; others bear the weight of decades. Brushes, spatulas, stones, cloths, powders — each instrument has a purpose, and together they form a quiet choreography.

At every stage: • The base coat is applied with confidence.

• Pigments reveal hidden depth.

• Polishing brings a luminous, liquid finish.

The interior design was conceived as a neutral canvas on which the garden could express itself.

Furniture selected or customdesigned acts as a quiet punctuation, structuring the space without stealing the scene… nor the scenery.

Reflections from the water animate the walls; mature trees stand as living architecture, offering shade, texture, and depth.

Each room nurtures an intimate connection with the outdoors.

The living room opens onto the pool, a décor in perpetual motion.

Bedrooms breathe behind vertical fins filtering the tropical sun, while a spiral staircase traces a poetic axis between sky and earth, inviting a sensory ascent.

Collaborations The Interview “It’s not technology that inspires me, it’s what it forces us to rediscover about ourselves” Meeting Franck Singler is like entering a dialogue between East and West, where textures, materials, and time itself become a shared language. Based in Singapore, Franck has been leading the development of CFOC across Asia, collaborating with a network of artisans whose craft has been passed down from one generation to the next.

The Art of Connection Bleutone: You lead CFOC’s development in Asia. How would you define the essence of your role today?

Franck Singler: My role is not only about managing a supply chain. It’s about creating connections between those who imagine and those who make.

In Asia, the relationship with craftsmanship is deeply rooted, every object carries the spirit of the person who shaped it. I see myself as a bridge, a translator between cultures, rhythms, and visions.

Artificial Intelligence & the Intelligence of the Hand Bleutone: Artificial Intelligence is transforming every field. How do you see its impact on yours?

Franck Singler: AI will accelerate some processes, it will help us design, visualize, anticipate trends. But it will never replace the human hand.

What an artisan transmits through a gesture cannot be replicated. The warmth of polished wood, the subtlety of lacquer, the breath of bamboo, these are living things.

AI should remain a tool in service of human creativity, not its replacement. If anything, it should give us the freedom to reinvest our time in what truly matters, the precision and poetry of the handmade.

The Value of Time Bleutone: In your view, what makes an object truly contemporary?

Franck Singler: Its ability to endure. For a long time, luxury was defined by rarity. Today, I believe true luxury lies in the time dedicated to doing things well.

In our workshops, I see artisans who work as their ancestors did, yet they intuitively embody what we now call sustainability, respect, patience, emotion. That, to me, is modernity.

Passing the Torch Bleutone: What is your vision for the years ahead?

Franck Singler : I hope that younger generations won’t see craftsmanshp as nostalgia, but as a path forward.

AI will produce flawless images, but human hands will continue to create imperfect objects, and it’s in those imperfections that beauty resides.

My dream is for our ateliers to remain places of encounter, where materials, ideas, and generations still speak to each other.
