SAINT BARTHÉLEMY - CARRIBEAN
ROCKGREY PERGOLA PETRA & VERRA LAMP

HISTORY OF CRAFTMANSHIP
The craftsmanship history of woven wire decorative arts traces back to the rich cultural traditions of Sumba, Indonesia, where artisans have passed down intricate metalweaving techniques through generations. Woven wire from Sumba, also known as Lulu Amuhu,is a traditional craft that uses wire weaving techniques. this technique has been passed down from generation to generation and became known in the early 20th century. It is designed to complement the island’s striking metallic pendants.

LIGHTING PROTOTYPE
The light ambience from a woven wire pendant lamp is soft, atmospheric, and layered with texture. As light filters through the intricate mesh of fine wire, it creates a gentle, diffused glow rather than a harsh beam, making the space feel warm and inviting. The open weave design allows subtle shadows to dance across nearby surfaces, adding depth and visual interest to walls and ceilings.

PETRA LAMP PROTOTYPE
Crafted entirely by hand, the prototype involved experimenting with weaving density, tension, and structure to achieve both aesthetic fluidity and structural stability. The form itself is intentionally organic celebrating the natural variations that come from the artisan’s touch. Throughout the prototyping phase, attention was paid to how the wire interacts with light: the open weave allows for ambient diffusion, while the layering creates a delicate shadow play the

THE VISUALISATION
Integrating a woven wire pendant lamp into an interior adds a distinct blend of craftsmanship, texture, and sculptural light. Its organic shape and handwoven wirework make it more than just a light source. It becomes a statement piece that anchors the space with a sense of artistry and quiet luxury. The lamp’s airy structure pairs beautifully with natural materials like teak wood, stone, linen, and rattan, making it ideal for interiors that embrace earthy palettes or tropical-modern aesthetics.

LAYOUT
The lamps are spaced loosely in a circular or oval footprint, with about 40 to 60 cm between each, allowing the cluster to span roughly 120 to 160 cm in width depending on the lamp sizes. This organic composition is ideal for positioning above a dining table, seating area, or stair void, where it can act as both a functional light source and an artistic statement.

THE UTILITY MAPS
Each unit is mounted using an adaptor and a custom lamp house, ensuring secure installation while concealing fittings for a clean, refined look. The organic arrangement creates a dynamic visual flow, making it ideal for placement above a dining table, seating area, or stairwell void. It serves as both a functional light source and a distinctive artistic statement within the space.

To maintain clean lines, the lamps can be connected to a custom or multi-outlet ceiling canopy, with adjustable cords to fine-tune each drop. Using warm white bulbs (2700–3000K) enhances the soft, diffused glow through the woven wire, while the natural irregularity of each handwoven lamp adds depth and individuality to the overall arrangement. INDIRECT LAMP INSTALATION
In this pendant lamp design, the lamp fitting is intentionally hidden from the underside view to preserve the aesthetic purity of the woven wire material and to enhance the overall visual experience. The goal is to show only the light, not the source. The material used for the fitting is matched with the pendant : BRASS.

INDIRECT LAMP LIGHTING TEST
The result is a soft, ambient glow that enhances the atmosphere without glare. This technique is common in pendant lamps, wall sconces, and architectural lighting where visual comfort and mood are prioritized. In a brass lamp, the warm metallic surface also helps diffuse and enrich the color of the light, creating a cozy and elegant effect. the
