Overview

St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System is a Christ-centered community dedicated to faith formation, academic excellence, community engagement, and individual growth of students in a safe environment. Eight parishes in Appleton, Wisconsin, as well as fifteen parishes in surrounding communities, invest in St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System, and encourage families to enroll their students. St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System is rooted in long-time traditions of deep spiritual development and rigorous academic excellence from the Appleton parish schools, the first of which was opened by St. Mary Parish in 1864. St. Francis Xavier Catholic Schools and the Appleton parish schools that came before boast a strong, long-standing alumni population.

St. Francis Xavier Catholic Schools challenge students to do their very best. Students are offered a great variety of curricula, programming, sports, fine arts, and extra-curricular opportunities, as well as a variety of spiritual, intellectual, and academic explorations. 1864 Appleton’s First Catholic School Opened its Doors

The Position

The Interim President serves as the chief administrator and spiritual leader of the Xavier Catholic School System. In collaboration with Xavier’s senior leadership team, the Interim President has primary responsibility for the school system’s operations and adherence to policies, consistent with its mission and vision. The Interim President is primarily responsible for ensuring sufficient resources and sound fiscal management of the school system through direct oversight of advancement, admissions, business affairs, budget, and facilities. The Interim President works most closely with the Vice Presidents, Principals, Board of Trustees (advisory), Pastors, Board of Directors (governing), and Diocesan Superintendent, and represents the school system before the local community as its visible and engaging public face, providing leadership regarding the purposes, values, and goals of the Catholic school system.

The Interim President must have a demonstrated capacity for broad institutional leadership, acquired through a variety of career paths that might include primary, secondary, or higher education; non-profit management; or work in the corporate or public sector. A degree in educational administration or business-related fields is preferred.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for advancing the mission of Catholic education and possess an understanding of the President/Principal model of administration. He or she must be experienced with strategic planning and have the requisite executive level experience to lead a school community.

Opportunities

A vacancy occurred in the position of Xavier Catholic School System President at the end of the school year. The Board of Trustees (advisory) and Board of Directors (governing), in conjunction with the Office of Catholic Schools of the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay, has made an informed decision to appoint an interim leader for Xavier Catholic School System for 2024-25 while a national search is conducted for Xavier’s next permanent President. The Interim President will inherit strong academic, fine arts, and athletic programs, and will be supported by dedicated educators, principals, leadership team, and pastors of the eight Appleton Catholic parishes. Opportunities for growth include enhancing retention and enrollment, and strengthening Catholic identity with staff, students, and families.

The Area

Situated 30 miles southwest of Green Bay and 110 miles north of Milwaukee, Appleton has a population of 75,000 and is part of an area in east-central Wisconsin collectively known as The Fox Cities. The Fox Cities are comprised of 18 unique communities positioned along the scenic Fox River and Lake Winnebago. This region presents a mix of big-city conveniences with small-town warmth and friendliness. The Fox Cities are the home of notable school systems, colleges, and healthcare systems. The region features vibrant cultural venues, a year-round calendar of exciting events, one-of-a kind museums, and fantastic outdoor recreation. Downtown Appleton, the Fox River Mall, and many other retail destinations are a draw for visitors from all over Wisconsin and beyond. The Fox Cities’ diverse economy is represented by paper, technology, manufacturing, retail, service, and electronic industries.
