According to the Mayo Clinic (October 2024), study after study shows that breakfast provides many benefits for children and their learning experience. Those who eat breakfast:
• Can score significantly higher on standardized math, spelling and reading tests.
• Develop a healthy breakfast habit that can carry over into adulthood.
• Have better brain function, memory, attention and energy.
• Perform better on vocabulary tests, math problems and challenging mental tasks.
• Show increased focus, alertness, improved moods and ability to deal with frustration.
Thankfully, for students at South High School in Cheyenne, WY, the Laramie County School District #1 Nutrition Services Department is piloting a program for South High students. The Nutrition Services Department is providing what
has been called “second breakfast” each day Monday through Friday. If students are unable to eat breakfast at school prior to 7:45, students have the opportunity, thanks to this pilot program, to get breakfast after their first hour class. Fresh fruit is always available and more than 50% of South High School students have participated in the second breakfast opportunity so far this school year.

Dia de los Muertos Celebrations
The Cheyenne Municipal Building is closed until further notice. All City services remain available to the public and the main City phone line remains open at 307-637-2000. City staff and departments are available by phone and email at their regular numbers. The Clerk’s Office and Human Resources are at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, 710 South Lions Park Drive. The Mayor’s Office, City Attorney, the Building Safety Division, Planning and Development Department, MPO, Downtown Development Authority and City Engineer are located at 2020 Carey Avenue. Offices that offer in-person services and their locations are listed at the top of the City’s website at www.cheyennecity. org. City Council will continue to offer in-person attendance at its committee meetings, work sessions and full meetings of the Governing Body. All City Council meetings remain at their regular times but will be held in the Laramie County School District #1 Board Room at Storey Gym. Meetings will continue to be streamed on Zoom but streaming to the City’s Facebook and YouTube may be interrupted.
