As school started, Covid hit the schools, masks reappeared and life behind a screen returned to some unlucky students at South.

More students and staff were quarantined at beginning of the year than ever before. Learning at home behind a screen can be incredibly challenging—from trying to hear on Zoom to figuring out how to turn in assignments. As a student who has been quarantined, it is so easy to get distracted from your learning when you are

at home. Some South students weighed in on this struggle: “Quarantine was not one bit fun; I had to stay in the house the whole time and it was boring.”

A FULMAR is an Arctic SEABIRD. FULMARS are PELAGIC. Apart from breeding season, they spend all their time flying or soaring over the ocean, hunting fish, shrimp, squid and CARRION. FULMARS are a species of PETREL, birds that have tubes in their noses. A CAHOW is another species of petrel, as is a GADFLY. PETRELS are quite large – their bodies can be almost three feet in length. Count Your Many Blessings

A number of us would be familiar with the words of this hymn. Perhaps even our mothers would quote it to us when we were tempted to complain about something. One reason for doing this is to remind ourselves that we really are very blessed.

The greatest part of our many blessings we take for granted, if we think of them at all. The other reason is a psychological one. By always focusing on the negative in life, you will very naturally become depressed, angry, cynical, etc. But let us focus on the first reason. To count your blessings is at first an exercise of the will. Eventually, blessed creatures of habit that we are, it can become a normal thing for us and we will no longer have to devote so much will power to it. Indeed, we may not even have to think about it. It will have become our new default.

One thing that has helped me in this journey, and I am still learning and have by no means attained, is to look at those less fortunate (by out finite standards) than myself. I have poor eyesight and have worn glasses since the age of 6. Without them, I am next thing to helpless.

I could envy my friends who were born with 20/20 and let it fill me with bitterness and resentment, or I could remember the fact that my sight can be corrected. There are those who are blind, and there is nothing they can do about it. My hearing is not awardwinning. That is the result of loud rock music in my younger years, the use of power tools and equipment without the proper protection, and various and sundry other things.

I could be upset about it.

Or, I could remember that a great deal of it is my fault and that I don’t need hearing aids as yet. And even if I did, the hearing aids would completely fix my issues. There are those out there whose hearing issues are far worse.

Some will never hear, or never hear again. Some have permanent ringing in their ears, caused by tinnitus. You begin to see the game? You can treat it that way. Take it as a challenge to see how many things you can come up with to be grateful for. Was your meal at the restaurant not quite what you ordered? At least you ate.

There are thousands of refugees from countries such as Afghanistan, Haiti, Syria, etc. that didn’t. Do you have a place to live?

Those refugees don’t. Do you live in constant fear of losing life, limb, loved ones or possessions to violence perpetrated by civil war, genocide or such like? Blessed and fortunate creature, you have much to be grateful for.

As you begin this journey in your life ( and you must make the choice, none can do it for you), remember the Source of all true blessings. “Every good gift and every prefect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights.” James 1:17a. “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” Psalm 103:2. American Legion Post 6 Veterans Day Ceremony

Thursday, November 11, is Veterans Day and as always, will be celebrated on the 11 month on the 11th day, starting at 11:00am. The ceremony will be held in the American Legion Post 6, located at 2001 East Lincolnway. Also on Saturday, November 6, they will be placing U.S. flags on the graves of all deceased military veterans who served our country. They will start at precisely 9:00am. The city of Cheyenne is experiencing a high volume of catalytic convertor thefts. Catalytic convertors can be sold at salvage yards and over the internet. The rare earth minerals used in catalytic convertors is what makes them so valuable. The thieves typically hit high profile vehicles because they are easier to crawl under.

They also steal from fleet vehicles that are not driven every day. The thieves typically use a battery operated reciprocating saw to cut the catalytic convertors off of vehicles. The Cheyenne Police Department recommends that the public park in driveways or in well lighted areas to avoid becoming a victim of this crime.
