Voter Registration Pop-Up Event for 2024 Elections

The Laramie County Clerk’s office is holding a voter registration pop-up event on Sunday, March 24, at the Laramie County Library, 2200 Pioneer Avenue. The event takes place in the Cottonwood Room from 1:00pm-5:00pm. Staff from the Clerk’s office will be on hand to register new voters, update registrations for those who have moved, those who want to update their party affiliation, request absentee ballots, or have questions about the coming elections. Cheyenne Audubon Field Trip

Cheyenne Audubon is organizing a free field trip March 30, open to the public, to watch sandhill cranes return to their nighttime roosts at Table Mountain Wildlife Management Area. Participants will leave at 3:00pm, from Lions Park’s parking lot, 616 South Lions Park Drive, between the Children’s Village and the picnic shelter, expecting to return about 9:00pm. The management area is about 75 miles north of Cheyenne, near Yoder, WY. Public Schools Chronicle To Date or Not To Date:

High School Relationships Pros and Cons

High School is a place where feelings flutter around and tend to be explored. Relationships become more serious as students age but so do their lives. According to hugateen.com, “Less than 2 percent of high school relationships last. Most high school relationships last between 12 and 18 months. Only 25% of high school sweethearts last after graduation and make it to marriage. According to Men’s Divorce, 54 percent of married high school couples end up in divorce. This shows how unlikely high school sweethearts will end up getting married and settling down.” With this in mind, we ask ourselves, why do people still try so hard for a relationship in high school? The only way to find out is by getting the perspective of high school students. In this article, we’ll be talking about the pros and cons of being in a high school relationship according to the students at South High School.

I think we’ve all had the chance to hear that speech from our parents about high school dating, how we should focus on grades and school instead of on boys or girls. But high school relationships have their pros, it’s not all bad and you can control it enough to where you won’t fail because you have a girlfriend or a boyfriend. In an article by Addeali.com they state some of the pros of dating in high school, “Dating can help teenagers learn more about themselves and their interests. You get ample opportunities for socializing and meeting new people. Dating boosts self-confidence and improves communication skills. It can be a way to explore romantic relationships in a safe and supportive environment.” I would like to emphasize the mention of improving communication skills. Teenagers have a really challenging time communicating and that’s one of the main reasons why they tend to struggle so much with processing feelings.

At South High School, love can radiate through the halls. When we asked students whether they found it harder to be in a relationship while in high school or easy enough, we got feedback from a few different points of view.

A sophomore who has a relationship of six months said, “I don’t know, I just find it easier because I don’t talk to a lot of people, so I am able to go to my classes and not have to worry about my friends or anything.” This gives us a good insight into what it’s like to juggle high school and a relationship altogether. Another couple in junior year of nine and a half months said, “I mean we definitely have to make time for each other. I won’t say that its difficult though because we tend to not be so attached that we get mad at each other if we don’t get to hangout.” What these students tell us is that relationships can exercise the ability to go to class because you won’t be distracted by many people, and the ability to be flexible when it comes to schedules which can both be helpful for the future.

As good as love can be for students, we all know that less than 2% of high school relationships last but what about the 98% that fail? We’ve all heard people talk about their high school relationships and how they failed. Most high school relationships fail due to cheating, drama, not enough time for each other, etc. According to thelifevirture. com “Break-ups are painful to be at any stage of life. But having to go through one in adolescence is worse.’ Having to see your ex can become repetitive, exhausting, and very awkward. Especially when you have classes with them. You might think that you can balance both school and relationships but it’s harder than you think.

At South High School, some of the singles know that being single isn’t that bad or at least that’s what they said. One senior said “yes, it affects like your grades and like your whole you know personality and stuff.” We asked other kids at south about the pros and cons of dating, and some had other things to say said, “I’m single by choice because I personally believe that there’s always another girl.” Overall, as you can see, being single isn’t all that bad, it’s just what fits your liking.

In conclusion, dating in high school can go both ways and it’s all up to what you’re willing to do. Some choose to stay single and focus completely on themselves and whatever else they want to; others decide to find young love and spend their time with a companion. What we’ve been able to gather is that relationships take a lot of effort, and you really must want one and be willing to work with your partner for it to work out. But being single isn’t all that bad either and it can really help you find yourself during these four confusing years.
