Over the past couple of months, I have been seeing and reading more about mental health. May was Mental Health Awareness Month and subsequently, June was Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month. What I am learning is that mental health and physical health are intrinsically connected. The two cannot be separated. Many studies have proven that exercise and physical activity are vitally important ingredients in enhancing mental health. Mental health really is health. It is the fuel that allows you to do everything else in your life; to show up for your family, to show up at work, to show up in your sport, to show up for your community. To be there for yourself. When your mental health suffers, all those other dimensions suffer as well.
Tennis, Golf and Fitness encourage self-reliance and mental toughness. For you, these activities are easily accessible. We have the professionals and trainers available to help improve your game and fitness .….consequently, improving your mental health.
Steve Cutler, Kyle Sullivan and Brooke Ward are your GOLF professionals. Dani Leal is your TENNIS professional. Ryan Callicott, Clinton Adams, Brooke Callicott and Rebecca Gilbert are your FITNESS trainers. ALL of the individuals are excellent at what they do. Give them an opportunity to serve you.
We don’t always know what’s going on in other people’s lives. Over the next few months, some members of our WynTeam will be going through mental health education training in hopes to identify members of our team that may need assistance/help in this area and provide the proper resources for them. Mental health can significantly impact the workplace; reducing productivity and performance, absences and difficulty retaining work and burnout. I feel strongly that this will be a WYN WYN!

For nearly five years, Ezekiel Relf has been a dedicated and cheerful presence on the Wynlakes team. He says he enjoys “everything” about working here—especially driving the tractors, which is his favorite part of the job. His daily motivation? Making sure everything looks its best on the course for members and guests. When he’s not hard at work, Ezekiel enjoys fishing and sharing a good laugh—he’s known for his jokes and for keeping spirits high among the team. He believes what truly sets Wynlakes apart are the people who work here, and we couldn’t agree more.
Thanks for all you do, Ezekiel. We’re lucky to have you!

Dr Dani,
How do I beat players that lob all the time?
Sincerely, Mary Moonball
Dear Mary,
To beat players who hit lobs all the time, hit short low balls inside the service line. By hitting short and low, your opponent cannot hit lobs from that position thus taking them out of their game. Your opponent will be like a fish out of water and you will have a win.
Sincerely,
with Drew Hurley at 561-434-5606
and with Charlie Osten at 334-391-3882

The Golf Course will be closed on July 7th through 11th for the aerification, the dryject process, and other course maintenance procedures. We ask that everyone stay off the golf course the entire week to ensure the Maintenance Staff have complete access and also allow the greens the necessary time to start the healing process. The Golf Shop and Driving Range will be open from 9am – 6pm that week.
This month’s superviews will cover what is taking place on the golf course. We are in that time of year where we really are in maintain mode with the turf. Just mowing and blowing takes up a lot of our time. Still there are things we are doing and things coming up that will help improve the courses health and playability.
As you all know we have been experiencing an abundance of rain the last few months. In saying that, the course has done a fantastic job of draining and using this water up. CPO (cart path only) days have been limited considering the rain. We have been using growth regulators on the fairways and tees to help control the growth rate of the turf. This helps with scalping and excess grass clippings. We have started our verticutting program on our greens. We do this on a biweekly basis. This practice helps reduce thatch build up, which can cause the greens to become soft or spongy due to the buildup of organic material. This also helps smooth out imperfections on the greens surface. The week after the fourth of July the course will be closed for aerification. This is a much needed practice. When
we aerify, we are punching holes in the greens and replacing that open area with sand. The reason for this is to get a gas exchange and allow more oxygen to get to the roots, it also helps with water infiltration down to the roots and it replaces organic material with clean sand. All of these allow better growth and health for the root zone of the turf plant. It is an inconvenience to play for a few weeks due to the bumpy conditions it makes, but it is something that has to been done.
Like I have said the last few months the golf course is in great shape. I know the weather has not been much help for play some days but I will never be upset with rain during the summer months. I hope to see you out on the course or around the club soon. Here’s to a great summer ahead.
