SHOP WYLIE, SUPPORT PARKS & RECREATION IN YOUR COMMUNITY A PORTION OF EVERY DOLLAR SPENT IS USED TO NOT ONLY SUPPORT AND GROW THE LOCAL ECONOMY BUT ALSO PARKS AND RECREATION FACILITIES AND PROGRAMS.

Did you know that a large portion of the funding for Parks and Recreation services in Wylie comes from the ½ cent 4B sales tax? The funds generated by the 4B sales tax when you buy local can only be used for Parks and Recreation, and we make the most of every dollar we receive. Recreation facilities that currently utilize 4B funds are the Wylie Recreation Center, Wylie Senior Recreation Center and the Bart Peddicord Community Center. These facilities provide programs and amenities dedicated to improving and maintaining the health and well-being of the citizens of Wylie. The Wylie Recreation Center also uses funds generated by user fee revenues to help support operations.

Support amenities dedicated to improving and maintaining the health and well-being of the citizens of Wylie. Photo: View of gazebo and horseshoe pits from Olde City Park toward downtown shopping.

In the Parks Division, 4B funds are mainly used for the repayment of the bonds that were used to purchase and develop parkland at Founders Park and the Wylie Municipal Complex. The large expanse of open space surrounding the Municipal Complex (over 200 acres) will provide opportunities for trail and open space development, ensuring there are resources to meet the needs of Wylie citizens in the future. In addition, some Parks Division staffing costs are supported by the 4B funds. Even though Wylie is growing, we hope to maintain our small-town values and stay focused on our community. Using 4B sales tax funds to enrich Parks and Recreation programs is one way we’re doing this every day. So remember: when you shop locally, your dollars not only support and grow the local economy but also help expand and develop your Parks and Recreation facilities and programs – so Shop Wylie First!

EUREKA PARK

RIVERWAY PARK

Located at 351 Rutherford Avenue, Eureka Park provides outdoor recreation opportunities for citizens who live on the eastern side of Wylie. The Wylie Parks and Recreation Board asked the students of Akin Elementary to participate in renaming the park, which had been named Cimarron Estates Park. The name “Eureka,” which represents a link to Wylie’s history, was selected by the Mighty Diggers, the Junior Master Gardening group at Akin Elementary. With a picnic pavilion, playground, basketball court, cooking grills, and a halfkilometer walking trail, this linear park has something for everyone!

Riverway Park is located at 1200 Riverway Lane in the Sage Creek neighborhood of Wylie. The Park was named by students at Groves Elementary School. The park boasts a playground, shelter pavilion, picnic tables and charcoal grills. The Parks and Recreation Division also maintains a concrete trail of approximately ½ kilometer in length leading South from the Park. Riverway Park is a popular destination for picnics and playdates.
