SCOTT BALE is a Master Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Scott specializes in corrective exercises that focus on finding the source of poor movement and stiffness and builds a personalized program to correct movement compensation. Scott is passionate about helping people of all fitness levels feel better and improve their performance. Corrective exercise has changed Scott’s life, and he is confident that it can change yours.

FRANSISCO CARREO has been a firefighter and Paramedic since 2012. He is a certified CPR Instructor with the American Heart Association and Safety Services. During Fransisco’s career as a first responder, he has gained hands-on experience with a variety of emergencies, CPR, and First Aid. KATHLEEN CLOWERS teaches Let’s Paint at the Community Park Center. She began painting and drawing at a young age and has continued to develop her talent by learning from others her entire life. Kathleen loves to share her passion through hands-on teaching with her students. She is most rewarded by helping others translate what they visually see into paintings.

LILY COURTNEY is a local elementary art teacher for Wylie ISD. Before joining the district, she co-founded the Creative Arts Guild of Wylie, developing summer camps and teaching art for all ages. She also led unique projects like “Art in the Park.” Previously, she was an art restorer for Fegan Fine Arts in Dallas, repairing various artworks. Additionally, she worked as a scenic painter for Artisan Center Theater, the Firehouse Theater, and Plano Children’s Theater.

CLUB SCIKIDZ believes every child is a scientist! Since 1997, their hands-on activities have demonstrated how science works in the real world. DRONE TOGETHER brings exhilarating and innovative learning by using one of the fastest-growing spaces in technology. Their goal is to spark a love of learning and technology through drone-centered STEM enrichment activities. Drone Together’s mastery-based curriculum, passionate teachers, and hands-on interactive flying experiences create a fun, exciting, and safe learning environment.

CASSIE DYSON has been a dancer since 1997. She has extensive studio training in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, and contemporary styles. Cassie also has 10 years of experience in drill team and pro-league dancing for NFL and ECHL teams. Since 2009, she has had the privilege of teaching teams and young dancers across the nation. ENGINEERING FOR KIDS® brings math, science, technology, and engineering to children in a fun and challenging way. They encourage children to have fun while using their knowledge of engineering and science to design, create, and improve solutions to engineering problems. Programs are designed to meet national standards in STEM education from science, technology, engineering, and mathematics-affiliated associations. MEAGHAN HODAPP has been coaching basketball since 2005, bringing experience and passion to the game. Dedicated to developing young athletes, Coach Hodapp thrives on teaching sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork. She enjoys working at summer camps, where she inspires players to grow both on and off the court. Her commitment extends to camps for the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, Mavs Academy, and her school, where she helps athletes hone their skills and foster a love for the sport.

LAURA HUDDLESTON is an outstanding Personal Trainer. She is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a personal trainer, nutrition coach, behavior change specialist, corrective exercise specialist, and performance enhancement specialist. She began training in 2003, and her areas of experience include metabolic resistance, heart rate, and body weight training as well as detoxification and nutrition training. ICODE uses STEM education to equip the classroom with a high level of technological skill and knowledge. While enriching students’ overall academic strength, iCode programs grow soft skills like problem-solving and creativity in a fun learning environment. KATHARINE ISBELL is a registered 500-hour Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance and teaches Gentle Flow Yoga. She focuses on wholebody strengthening and stretching for lifelong sustainable activity. ANGELA JACKSON is the founder of Metropolitan Charm and Modeling, and executive director of The Miss Denton County Scholarship Pageant. Since 1999, Angela has participated in numerous pageants. LORI JAYNES teaches Basic Floral Design. She found her love of floral design while working in the catering industry. Lori continued to develop her knowledge and eye for arranging at home. JUMP START SPORTS is dedicated to providing children of all ages and skill levels with the opportunity to experience the joy of sports. They offer a wide range of sports programs designed to build skills, confidence, and teamwork. Their passionate coaches provide age-appropriate instruction in a fun environment. Through their day camps and sports programs, children develop athletic abilities, make new friends, and enjoy an immersive, supportive experience that fosters a lifelong love of sports.

GINA KATIN has been coaching volleyball since 2011. She plays competitive sand volleyball every week, but her true passion is teaching kids. Gina has coached all ages, from kindergarten through high school. Her classes focus on the rules, plays, and techniques of volleyball. LUPE KUHARSKY offers Wreath Making. Lupe is a former educator and administrator from Mesquite ISD. After retirement, she was inspired to start crafting by her sister and a neighbor. ANNA LAMB, owner of Little Lamb Sweets, has been baking and creating custom cookies since 2018. Anna’s interest in cookie decorating stemmed from wanting her kids to have the most creative birthday cookies for a fraction of the specialty bakery cost. She began self-teaching, and her hobby quickly turned into a passion. Anna now bakes and decorates cookies nonstop and believes “everyone deserves a cookie.” Awesome expert for Wylie Recreation since January 2023.

ERIN LAREW teaches Zumba. Her passion for people and fitness led her to become an instructor in 2009. Erin brings a positive, vivacious attitude to the classroom, and it is reflected in her dance style. She incorporates interval training to improve cardiovascular fitness through lively and interactive aerobic activity. Awesome expert for Wylie Recreation since April 2011.

ALIVIA LARSEN teaches Surge Strength at Wylie Recreation Center. Her love for strengthbased fitness began after taking a class with her sister-in-law. After seeing the benefit of strength training for herself, Alivia received her certification from the Surge Fitness brand in 2022. Alivia loves sharing her passion with the community and seeing her participants grow stronger.

TRAN NGOC teaches Gardening at the Community Park Center. Tran began gardening as a way to relieve stress from work, and it grew into a passion. She has spent the last 30 years learning about different plants, how to care for them, and experimenting with plant cutting to combine different plants into the same growth. Tran gets great enjoyment out of sharing her knowledge and hopes she can spark the same love for gardening in others.

PLAY-WELL originated in 1997. Their goal is to engage kids and get them excited about engineering, architecture, and physics concepts using LEGO. Play-Well’s mission is to help kids solve problems, provide an opportunity for creative expression, and develop teamwork skills through building elaborate objects and collaborating with their peers. ROBERT GARDEN

SCHOOL

OF ART provides art instruction camps at Wylie Recreation Center. This award-winning art school teaches fundamental principles of painting and drawing through revolutionary methods that prove “you can paint.” Classes are led by professional artists who are excited to share their passion for art and help participants discover the science of color theory, techniques, and more in a fun and creative environment.

DAL SANDERS, founder of the Dallas Magic Academy and former Ronald McDonald, has been teaching and performing magic since the 1980s. Dal has performed all over the world, appeared on a variety of television shows, and served as the President of the Society of American Magicians. Dal has a passion for sharing his love of magic with kids. He believes that magic connects people and teaches vital interpersonal skills. Awesome expert for Wylie Recreation since July 2020.

ELIZABETH SIMMONS has been an athletic coach since 1998 and an educator since 1983. She has coached gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, and tennis during her career, but her passion and expertise lie on the tennis court. Elizabeth keeps tennis lessons fun, positive, and engaging and specializes in teaching tennis technique and form to students. Her goal is for kids to have a great experience while playing the sport.

AMBER SMITH has been sewing since 1992. Her passion for fabrics, stitches, and embroidery began with her mother, who taught her the art of sewing and quilting. At the age of 11, Amber began selling her sewn items and handmade doll clothes. Amber strives to boost hand-eye coordination, self-confidence, and creativity within her students. She has taught sewing and held private lessons since 2011. Awesome expert for Wylie Recreation since January 2013.

SOCCER SPARKS has been teaching soccer in the Dallas-Fort Worth area since 2009. Their focus is the physical development of children and the community as a whole. Their classes are designed to teach kids the proper skills and principles of the game while focusing on fun in a non-competitive environment. Soccer Sparks’ goal is for players to simply enjoy the sport while acquiring the necessary skill set without the pressure of outcomes. Awesome expert for Wylie Recreation since September 2018.

SOCCER STARS offers soccer classes at Wylie Recreation Center. Through a unique curriculum, Soccer Stars helps participants improve soccer skills in a fun, non-competitive, and educational environment. Their classes are designed to build self-confidence, encourage movement, and develop teamwork while creating a strong foundation for soccer play.

WENDY STEPHENS teaches Cakeology at Community Park Center. Her love for baking began in childhood. Over the years, she honed her skills and eventually launched her own home cottage cookie business in Wylie. Now, Wendy is thrilled to share her passion and expertise in confections with her students, helping them create sweet masterpieces of their own.

YOLANNY SURRANT teaches Craft Corner at Community Park Center. She has been a part of the Community Park Center team since 2021. Yolanny’s love for crafts started when she was young and has continued to grow into adulthood. She enjoys planning, creating decorations, and hosting parties for friends and family. Yolanny is excited to share her passion with her students and inspire them to utilize their creativity to make one-of-a-kind crafts.

THE RAMAZINIS toured with Ringling Bros Circus, performing in some of the largest arenas in North America. After honing their craft through circus school, they mastered flipping, flying, and contorting. In 2013, they transitioned from touring to teaching youth and adult circus arts classes and camps. By 2016, they launched their company, performing in countless shows and events across the state. Today, they focus on producing and teaching stunning performances, showcasing extraordinary juggling, acrobatics, and aerial arts.

CHARLOTTE ROSE earned her E-RYT 500, RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) certification in 2009 after a career in law enforcement and corporate security. She graduated with the determination to help others “undo” the damage of stress and aging and take what they learn in class and apply it in their daily lives. She intuitively adapts her classes to any student’s limitations. She is a committed lifetime learner who includes certifications as a nutritionist, trauma recovery/ resilience, and life success coach, as well as mindfulness training.

DAN THOMPSON holds a black belt in karate. He began training in martial arts in 1990, beginning with four years of tai chi and then moving on to karate. Dan wants to share his experience, knowledge, passion, and skills with his students. Dan believes karate is a lifelong activity and that there is always a new skill, technique, and move to learn. FRANCESCA VEGAS teaches Zumba and Zumba Gold at Community Park Center. Francesca’s love of music and dance started at a young age in Venezuela. She began taking Brazilian line dancing classes in 1999 and has not stopped dancing since. Francesca has performed on stage for cultural events and became a certified Zumba instructor in 2023. She loves being able to use her passion for dance to help others become healthier by getting up and moving their feet.

VINEYARD APP CAMP specializes in teaching coding, graphic design, journalism, game design, and more through real-world projects that build career-relevant skills. As enrichment experts, they emphasize social-emotional development through collaborative projects that inspire creativity and teamwork. The curriculum is designed to ensure that students experience personal growth every session by completing entrepreneurial tasks they can proudly share with others.

HEATHER WARD is a registered E500 yoga trainer through the Yoga Alliance and is excited to be teaching Yoga at Wylie Recreation Center. She fell in love with the beauty of the practice, how the body moves during yoga, and the strength it brings. Heather believes that class should be fun and challenging and that everyone can develop their strength through injury-free poses and lifelong practice.

AMANDA WHEATON teaches Adult Ballet at Wylie Recreation Center. She began dancing at the age of three and has not stopped since. Amanda trained with the Milwaukee Ballet School and Boston Ballet School before attending college and graduating with a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology and dance. After college, she danced professionally with the South Carolina Contemporary Dance Company and Martha Graham II in NYC. Amanda is excited to bring her knowledge to Wylie and share her passion for dance with others.

LESLIE WILLIAMS is a health and fitness enthusiast. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science and has been teaching Boot Camp classes since 2016. Her favorite aspect about the Boot Camp format is that it is a group activity that builds community and allows people to encourage each other and grow stronger together. TANYA WILLIAMS teaches Rock On at Community Park Center. Tanya has always had a passion for art, which led her to become an art educator for children and adults in 2015. She loves exploring different mediums, pushing the boundaries of traditional techniques, and encouraging creativity in all forms. Tanya aims to help students capture the beauty and express the emotion of everyday life through their projects.

ALISHA WILSON has led group painting since 2019. She is passionate about taking inspiration from her surroundings and painting organically. Alisha teaches her students how the world is a collection of shapes found in nature, simplifying a work of art into easy steps. She believes art is therapy and loves to teach others the joy of painting.

EXERCISE COMMUNITY PARK CENTER GROUP

Participate in a fit and fun low-impact workout. This unique curriculum accommodates the needs of people who have trouble standing on the floor to exercise. The combination of resistance bands, arm weights, and chair exercises keep you engaged and feeling great. View Drop In Play, and quarterly newsletters for current schedule.

FITNESS AREA

Stay healthy and fit in a safe, clean, and accessible environment. Wylie Community Park Center offers your choice of four treadmills, four recumbent bikes, two Aviron rowers with lumbar support, two elliptical machines, Inflight Fitness Vanguard Multi Gym, exercise balls, leg press, and various hand weights to keep your exercise routine exciting. If an indoor workout is not for you take a stroll at Wylie’s Community Park located outside the Community Park Center.

The Thomas and Mattie Brown House welcomes visitors to Wylie and offers a rare glimpse into its history.

Tour richly decorated rooms and view seasonal “Oh, Those Victorians!” exhibits that highlight innovation and culture of the 1800s and early 1900s. Explore the past with maps, books, and other materials, and find a unique selection of Victorian, train, and Wylie-themed items in the gift shop.

Food Glorious Food: Changing Tastes

in the Victorian Era

The later decades of the Victorian era saw innovations in food production, preparation, preservation, and transportation. This gave people nationwide access to a wider variety of foods, many of which we enjoy today.

Learn which of your favorite foods rose to popularity during this period. Hint: Oreos…banana splits… brownies…yum!

Godey’s Lady’s Book: Victorian Fashion and Culture

Godey’s Lady’s Book published its first issue in 1830 and was the most popular and bestknown women’s magazine of the Victorian era. Each issue featured literature, poetry, sheet music, children’s activities, and most importantly, full-color fashion illustrations inspired by French and English fashion plates.

Godey’s offered American women a connection to European haute couture, and today, the magazine provides a detailed record of the progression of women’s fashion.

Sarah Josepha Hale, the magazine’s editor from 1837-1879, was a writer and activist who advocated for women’s education and other social causes.

COMMUNITY PARK SPLASH PAD

Located in the heart of Wylie’s Community Park, the Community Park Splash Pad offers the perfect place to cool off and enjoy outdoor fun. Key features include futuristic signature spray ground elements, seat walls for relaxation, and shaded areas for guest comfort. The arrival plaza includes a convenient circle drop-off and decorative stamped concrete paths leading to the splash pad, with easy connections to existing trails. Nearby amenities include a pavilion, an inclusive poured-in-place playground, and updated restrooms, making this a favorite spot for summer fun and family gatherings.

Over the next few years, Wylie Parks and Recreation Department plans to continue implementation of the 2012 Trails Master Plan, which will increase the miles of trail in Wylie to better connect you with your community.

In these parks, you’ll find 19 miles of trails, 23 playgrounds, 12 pavilions available for reservation, soccer and baseball and football fields, a nine-hole disc golf course, a cricket pitch, and much more.

EAST MEADOW SPLASH PAD

Nestled at the East Meadow Trailhead off Brown Street, the East Meadow Splash Pad offers a charming and refreshing play space for families. The splash pad features a nature-themed sprayground with playful water elements, complemented by shaded areas and ample seating to keep guests comfortable and relaxed. The arrival plaza is thoughtfully designed with manicured landscaping, a brand-new restroom facility, and convenient access to the existing trail system. Whether you’re stopping by during a walk or planning a day at the splash pad, East Meadow Splash Pad is a perfect spot to cool off and enjoy the outdoors.

Covered pavilions with lights, electrical outlets, BBQ grills, tables, and benches are available at Olde City Park and Community Park. First-come first-served basis at Community, Eureka, Founders, Friendship, Grayhawk, Joel Scott Memorial, Kreymer Estates, Lewis Ranch, Pheasant Creek, Pleasant Valley, Riverway, Valentine, and Woodbridge Parks.
