Another year has come to an end. Can you actually believe how quick it went? I feel that I keep repeating myself but I could almost swear that only a couple of months ago I was celebrating the start of a new year and we were working to create our refreshed WyldeLiving Magazine! Our 15th anniversary was extraordinary and we can’t thank you all enough for contributing towards such a tremendous success! But please don’t think that the celebrations are over because that definitely won’t be the case! We have big and exciting plans for this new year ahead! Make sure you watch this space!

S E M O C L E W G G I R E PORT HAV P I H S N O I P M A H C WORLD As announced in the Autumn edition of WyldeLiving Magazine, we’re tremendously proud that our application to host the 2018 Fly Casting World Championship has been successful, allowing Port Haverigg Marina Village Holiday Park to be the stage of a recognised multinational competition. The Fly Casting World Championship, which is held in August every two years, is owned by the Norwegian Casting Federation. In 2018, it will be the fifth event of its kind and it’s coming to the UK, directly to our stunning holiday park in Millom, Cumbria, after having taken place in Estonia this year.
This breath-taking holiday park, which has an outstanding 200-acre fresh water lake right next to the sea, is under a massive development and upgrade programme that includes a brand new luxury leisure complex being built alongside the stunning caravans and lodges already available. In 2017, the holiday park will also see its hire fleet increased, just in time for a brand new season.
The championship is a six discipline competition: five distance casting events and one accuracy casting event. The five distance events are done with five different outfits that may be used for various types of fly fishing and the aim is to simply cast the artificial fly, which is tied to the end of the fly line and leader the furthest distance. There is a qualification round for all casters and the top six go through to the final of that event. In the accuracy casting qualification, the top six who score the highest amount of points also go to the final. In total, there will be 36 medals up for the taking. And Port Haverigg Marina Village Holiday Park will be more than ready to welcome the world!
Recently, the park has also received Cumbria’s first and only WakePark and one of only very few in the UK that run both boat and cable boat towed sports. Travel You don’t need to leave the country. Sometimes, you don’t even need to leave your own county. Drive or just simply buy a train ticket and go and explore new places.
Restoration If you like to rebuild and restore, why not dedicate your free time to do exactly that with old furniture for instance? And who knows, you can even manage to sell some of those restored items and get some extra cash from your hobby!

ICE HOCKEY KING Michael Walsh, 28 years old, was introduced to Dreams Come True by taking part in the UK Charity Allstars Ice Hockey tournament. The tournament is the largest of its kind in the UK and an event that has raised well over £300,000 for a number of charities in recent years. After representing Dreams Ice Hockey team for 3 years, Michael began to build a passion for this amazing cause, its people and their work. This encouraged him to look into how he could get more involved. He has now been supporting the charity for the last 4 years. After a 478 mile round-trip to visit the Dreams Come True offices in October 2015, Michael became an official volunteer for the charity. This year, he was the captain of the Dreams Come True Ice Hockey team, helping them to raise over £15,000 – their highest amount ever raised at the UK Charity Allstars! An extremely proud achievement for all of them! Michael is building up a huge fundraising challenge of his own in July 2017 – the details of which remain a secret for now! But we’re sure he will tell us everything about it soon!
I couldn’t think of a better charity than Dreams Come True to help in my spare time. I am extremely proud to represent it and I enjoy every aspect of what I do with the brilliant people that work full-time to make the dreams of very deserving young people come true 20

Grace, age 9, has SmithMagenis Syndrome which is a condition that leads to a number of severe disabilities, including learning and development delay. Grace would love to have her own sensory equipment at home as it would give her a place to go and relax.
Nine year old Leo suffers from Global Development Delay. This is a condition where a child takes longer to reach certain development milestones than other children their age. Leo’s dream is to have a fun filled holiday in Disneyland Paris and meet the characters of Frozen, his favourite film.
Logan, 4 years old, has Cerebral Palsy. He has limited mobility so misses out on activities that other children enjoy. Logan is a huge Disney fan and, like Leo, he would love to meet his favourite characters at Disneyland Paris.
Mairead is 20 years old. She has always been fascinated by animals and this is the main reason she decided to study veterinary medicine at university. Unfortunately, towards the end of her second year, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Her dream is to go on an African safari to recharge her batteries and appreciate being healthy again after her treatments.

Yes, it’s true! We have a writer in our family! Barry Atkinson, 69, has been enjoying the golden years of his retirement at The Old Rectory Mews Park, in Cornwall, since September 2010. He and his wife enjoy reading, walking, gardening and visiting areas outside of the county, for “a change of scenery”. They both love the peace and quiet of park lifestyle… and what better place for Barry to cultivate his biggest passion! Writing… is that a full time job or just a passionate hobby? It has been a passionate hobby since I first started composing essays in school over 50 years ago. However, being allied to one particular publisher, Midnight Marquee Press in Baltimore, it can also be viewed as a part-time job on the occasions that my publisher requests a deadline for a book’s completion; you then have to pull out all the stops to get your work finished on time. In the niche market that I cater for, you write because you love to write, not for any financial gain. And writing for a U.S. publisher is more of a job because you have to present your prose in American vernacular, a real challenge for anyone born and bred in England! Your first published book was a success in its field. How was this book born? ‘Mining Sites in Cornwall and South West Devon’ came about like this: I had spent 15 years wandering all over Cornwall, investigating abandoned mines, and thought what the public needed was a straightforward guide to direct them to a site and tell them what was there. At that time, around 1985, the 22
only literature on the subject available came in the form of hefty, technical theses or flimsy 20-page booklets. Len Truran published the volume in 1988 and it was very successful; the ‘little green book,’ as it became known, is now something of a collector’s item. The follow-up, ‘Mining Sites in Cornwall Volume 2,’ also sold well. Twelve years sit in between that book and “You’re Not Old Enough Son”. What made you go from technical/ geographical to movie-based writing? Fantasy cinema has been my one big passion since 1954 and I’ve always kept check-lists of films that I’ve seen. I had an idea to write about my childhood years during the 1950s, spent sneaking underage into X-rated horror movies, added to which I would review 450 movies seen and include a snapshot of what society was like 60 years ago. I started on ‘You’re Not Old Enough Son’ in January 2003, completing it in March 2005. After several rejections, Midnight Marquee offered me a publishing deal and it’s been a happy and rewarding collaboration with them ever since. In what genre would you fit your movie-based writing? My favoured genre is horror/science fiction/fantasy, preferably pre-1980s, but since the publication of Six-Gun Law in 2015, I have been concentrating on the Western genre, pre-1970s. I enjoy watching films made after those dates, but the older movies hold much more appeal to someone of my age. Today’s cinema is too frenetic for my tastes, a lot of it coming across like extended video games for a much younger generation.
For someone who never read any of your movie-based titles but is a cinema fan, how would you describe your books in a way to convince them to buy? I have tried to develop a unique style of my own by never talking down to my reader. In film-based works, I’ve attempted something different and unusual to what others have done, and hopefully presented a multitude of facts in an accessible manner. A great deal of research goes into my titles, all of which are profusely illustrated, so what the fan will receive for their money is a weighty, well-presented volume packed with information, written in a chatty, not-toointellectual manner that should appeal to a wide age group – and judging by sales, it has! Anything in the pipeline at the moment that you can reveal to our readers? There’s plenty in the pipeline at present. I’m writing a follow-up to ‘Six-Gun Law’ and Midnight Marquee have two manuscripts awaiting publication, one on Italian sword and sandal cinema, the other on independent horror movies. In addition, ‘Off Out to the Woods’ has just been published by united p.c./Novum, chronicling my boyhood years spent in Leatherhead between 1953-1959 and the escapades I used to get up to. Making a difference to people’s lives Eileen Fegan, who was brought up in Shirley and spent a few years of her life studying in the US, has a remarkable academic and professional path as a nurse and a well-being specialist. Following a successful career in the NHS, in 2010 Eileen took an opportunity to become voluntarily redundant and re-started her life as an independent, private practitioner. She and her husband Pat set up a Nursing Care Agency, which they still run today. However, in 2013, it was the loss of Eileen’s father that prompted them to go even further and open the Solihull Health Check Clinic, in Dickens Heath, which won the 2016 Solihull Chamber of Commerce Customer Care Award, in October 2016. “My father had an urinary tract infection that was missed by medical staff and, as a consequence, he died within a week of urosepsis. He was let down by the NHS and we decided that we never wanted this to happen again.

If my dad had access to a private clinic as ours, he would have received affordable, accessible and professional treatment”, Eileen explains to us. “Both me and Pat are extremely aware that finding silent killers, like high blood pressure, urine infections or kidney disease, allows an individual to take steps to prevent the condition from becoming life threatening”.

Legal Issues by Wyldecrest Parks’ Estates Director Early this year, at the Wyldecrest Annual Conference, I announced that I had been in contact with Hampshire Fire & Rescue with a view to setting up a Primary Authority Agreement with them to cover fire safety matters nationally. I am delighted to confirm that we are now the first Mobile Home Parks operator to have such a National Agreement. The Primary Authority Register contains such prestigious national companies as Lidl, CO-OP, Royal Bank of Scotland, B & Q, Royal Mail and now Wyldecrest.
Having a Primary Authority Agreement means that all queries by Councils and others relating to fire safety on any of our premises go through our Primary Authority which is Hampshire Fire Service. This means that we will be able to roll out consistent policies and procedures in relation to fire safety instead of adjusting to the approach taken by each local Fire Service. This will mean we can take a more forward thinking approach which will make our parks more aesthetically pleasing and safer places to live on and visit.
A new Fire Risk Assessment is being compiled which is tailored for and appropriate to a mobile home park, either residential or holiday. This will be rolled out to all parks over the next few months and will result in changes in the provision of fire equipment required on site, with more appropriate fire safety measures which will make our parks safer places to live and visit.

A special help for all Beechwood residents Assist Teignbridge is an award-winning charity based in Dawlish, Devon, near to our Beechwood Park. As the name suggests, they are “here to help”. Their primary focus is to provide affordable (and some free) support at home to the elderly, those living with dementia, other vulnerable people and their carers. Amongst others, they provide practical help around the home, companionship and some personal care services such as nail trimming. They give carers a break during the day, overnight or even for a well-deserved short-break or holiday. They also help people to get to and from appointments and social
meetings and promote volunteering. Some of their services are provided by highly trained staff and others by local and committed volunteers. The Home Help service provides domestic help to carers and older people who wish to remain living independently at home but struggle with some aspects of looking after their home. Although the service may initially have been commissioned to assist with routine household tasks, shopping or paperwork, their evaluation of the service indicates that for many home help clients it also helps to alleviate loneliness and isolation.
For the active elderly, the charity can assist in finding rewarding voluntary placements, either with them or with other charitable organisations, and it is their locally recruited volunteers who deliver a range of free support such as befriending, dog walking, escorting to social events and helping with gardening tasks. Really enjoyed staying at Saltmarshe Castle Park. Preparation for our stay and welcome pack was very welcoming and informative. Over the moon with not only the discount we received whilst visiting relatives at the park, but also with the quality, standard and comfort of the static caravan we rented for the weekend!
