Chairman’s message Residential Park homes are providing a viable housing option for those who want to maintain the independence and privacy that comes with having a home of their own, access to facilities close-by or onsite plus an in-built social community. It is wholly unfair to exclude a whole style of living - primarily practiced by the over-55s - from any help whatsoever with universal fuel bills. It is DOUBLY so when we know that those with second homes - many of them empty - are being paid TWICE! We have been trying to resolve the imbalance between the Energy Price Cap and the Maximum Resale Price Provision and other benefits not open to mobile home owners. My Estates Director, David Sunderland met with Louise van Rensburg, Head of Non-domestic retail policy in OFGEM who has stated that this change in policy is a matter for Government The situation has become worse now; as no action was taken since we first took this up with the Energy Minister last year, mobile home residents do not qualify for the £400 energy allowance; many residents are pensioners, vulnerable and on low incomes and amongst the most needy that the Chancellor earmarked this for. Alfie Best purchases Peagasus sports club The 22 acre former oil refinery sports club and ground saved for the community and looks set to become the Rocks new home. East Thurrock United FC owner, Thurrock based entrepreneur and businessman Alfie Best, has today confirmed that he has completed the purchase of the former Pegasus Sports Club in Herd Lane, Corringham. “A football club has so much more to offer than a game on a Saturday afternoon. Football is not my first passion but I believe that it has the opportunity to be the lifeblood of the community. I am confident we will have the support of Thurrock Council who are a go-ahead and ambitious authority determined to provide the best amenities for their residents I have always been committed to the club and the supporters and I am now looking to create a new ‘state of the art’ sports ground”, Alfie Best Best is the founder and chairman of Wyldecrest Parks, the UK & Europe’s leading residential park homes operator, Mr Best is immensely proud of his Romani Gypsy heritage, and recently won the Entrepreneur of the Year Award and featured in the ITV programme “Undercover Boss”.

Alfie took ownership of the football club following the sad passing of the Rocks much loved previous owner Ben Bennett back in December 2019. The prestigious Pegasus Club was opened in 1961 by the Mobil Oil Company, to provide sports and social facilities

solely for employees at their nearby Coryton Oil Refinery and their immediate families. In 1996 operation of the refinery was taken over by BP, and subsequently by Petroplus in 2007. The latter went into liquidation in 2012 and the refinery closed for good. This resulted in the Pegasus Club also closing for some while, until in 2014 it was purchased by a consortium of Malaysian businessmen. However, in 2019 the ailing club closed again, and the site was once more put up for sale. Now that Mr Best has completed the purchase, work is underway to refresh the facilities and get the club back open in the near future under the title of the “Wyldecrest Sports Arena”

Park Home Living : Latest Stories 4-bedroom home to a park home bungalow: downsizing down the road Please meet our lovely resident good friends we have known for many years moved here Annemarie too.

We lived in Penwortham for over 40 years and had quite a large four-bedroom house with a large garden which needed a lot of maintenance. As we were getting older, we decided that we would look forward to an easier life with a lot less maintenance and a nice easy retirement living. So, we looked into Park home living and found Penwortham Park on our doorstep which was ideal for us as we did not want to move away from family and friends. We bought a brand-new park home and moved in 8 years ago. We absolutely love living here. The house is low maintenance and the garden is manageable.

Unfortunately, my husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and in reflection of that we found that we made the best decision to downsize. My husband was a very keen gardener but sadly can’t manage it anymore so I have to sort the garden out which I enjoy doing. We were here on the park when Undercover Boss was filmed. We weren’t really involved in it, but was great watching the show after. I am a volunteer for our local St Catherine’s hospice and have been doing that for nearly 8 years which I enjoy a great deal.

Park Home Living : Latest Stories A Great Lifestyle We caught up with Theresa recently to find out how park home living is turning out for her.

Then Covid hit and slowed our search down but we picked this up after things started coming back to normal.

We often go caravanning to visit different parts of the UK, it wasn’t until some of our caravanning friends had told us they had been living in a park home for over 10 years and have loved it!

We met the Wyldecrest Sales Area Manager Sam on the park who showed us a variety of plots and explained what homes would be on certain plots.

So we started looking into park homes, the first park we visited was Orchard park that was roughly around 4 years ago but the homes was just a bit out of budget. Penwortham Residential Park was the next park we visited and there was a round of new development which was being done in the park. There was so much choice for plots and homes and it was such a lovely park that it instantly appealed to us.

We were able to view a Willerby Kingswood Park Home and that was is it…. We placed our deposit right away. We have been happily living on the park since October and are loving park living, we have made so many friends on park and our 2 Spaniels Archie and Becky have settled in beautifully.

We welcomed the lovely Julie Howard into her brand new park home in Radcliffe Park a few weeks back I have literally lived all my life in Radcliffe. I was with my husband and had a beautiful family in a spacious 4 bed bungalow. However after our daughter grew up and moved on to start her own ventures, it was just the two of us.

Unfortunately, I was in an abusive relationship and therefore decided that a divorce was the only way forward. Once we decided to go our separate ways, I decided to look for a fresh start. I wanted to be independent but be part of a community as well. I did research and started looking into park homes. I booked an appointment and

feel in love with an elegance amber park home! It didn’t take me long to complete my purchase and here I am, now settling in with my 12-year-old Sprocker, Sam. We are both in love with park life and just love our new home and our new park. I have made so many new friends and I feel so welcomed by all! I was recently walking around the park with Sam, when I ran into a lady I had never met before. She was celebrating her husband’s birthday and insisted I joined in. Before I knew it, I was 2 drinks in and I had made another fab group of friends! The atmosphere on the park is like nothing I have ever experienced before!

Moving to a Residential Park home (with our 60 plants) Meet the garden of Gordon and Jenny Lloyd We’d been thinking of moving back to Herefordshire not only for our retirement but to be nearer to family. We are both originally from Herefordshire having moved away to follow our careers. While out for a ride one day, when the Covid restrictions had eased a little, we happened to drive past Saltmarshe. Not far up the road we turned the car around thinking we might as well have a look at the park. It was the views of the Malvern Hills and surrounding countryside that appealed first of all. Some of the park homes overlook this view and it just so happened that some more concrete bases were being put down facing this view. Things quickly moved on from that initial visit and we put down a deposit to secure an end of row plot. We didn’t actually get the chance to choose a specific home as an Omar Newmarket home was already destined to

be put on the end of the row. We ideally wanted an open plan layout which fortunately the Newmarket has, so it mostly meets our needs. We moved to Saltmarshe Castle Park in August 2021 bringing with us 60 potted plants from the large garden we left behind in Shropshire. During the Autumn & Winter of 2021 we began designing and planning the type of garden we wanted at Saltmarshe. Our priority was to have raised

beds not only looking ahead to a time when bending to garden might become a problem but also, we wanted a garden that is easy to maintain and leave whilst on holidays.

We have met some lovely people since we moved. Being on the end of a row we have lots of residents passing by, either just out for a walk or with their dogs. Nearly everyone stops for a chat if you are outside and the garden, we have created gets a lot of comments. We not only have lots of flowers on both sides of our home planted in raised beds and but we also have potatoes, runner beans, tomatoes, strawberries, spring onions and lettuce. So,

we’ve achieved a lot in the 9 months we’ve been here.

We have had, a few of our residents submit their entries for our garden competition. Our Garden Competition has 3 categories this year. Each category has 1 winner and 2 runner ups. This is our entry for the mini garden competition. The garden came about due to a leak from an old pipe. Luckily the Maintenance Team after a lot of hard work, found the leak but had to dig our previous garden up. This gave us the inspiration to create our new Zen garden.

During this process, we didn’t feel as though we were in lockdown as so many people walking or even driving passed, stopped to chat and admired the progress. We would like to enter the flower garden competition. We were given permission to adopt this corner of wasteland which was concrete covered in brambles and weeds. This happened at the beginning of COVID and it kept us occupied and certainly helped us mentally. We had planters made to cover concrete and worked to get rid of brambles etc. Then we bought lots of shrubs.

We lived in a detached house in Norden, near Rochdale, Lancs, in the North of England. We are both retired and considered selling up and moving into a Park Home. We also wanted to live in a place with a warmer climate and visited Paignton in Devon. We discovered there was a Park Home site called Beechdown Park that had vacant plots. In April 2021 we viewed the plots available and decided to purchase an Omar Newmarket home to put on Plot 3. In December 2021 we moved into our brand-new Home. Since then we have had a decking area built and we have employed some groundworkers to sort out a garden area and provide fence, gates, steps, paving stones, astro turf etc. We have planted many pots with plants and flowers and our garden now looks wonderful and has been admired by many residents on the site. There is not much actually to do on the site itself but we have made a number of friends. There is a thatched pub over the road we have been to several times. A couple we are friends with go with us sometimes to this pub for Sunday dinner! The Park is situated ideally and is only 2 miles from the seafront. There are several supermarkets and plenty of places nearby to visit. We love it here and so does our dog Waffle!

We would like to thank Mr. Jonathan Hulley, Councillor (Surrey) for his recent visit to our Fangrove Residential Park in Surrey It was a very constructive meeting and we discussed various aspects regarding our parks, our residents and how we can implement more improvements. We also reaffirmed our commitment to continue to work closely with the council in the future with regular meetings and updates.

The majority of the parks residents are participating in a Jubilee Street party, this isn’t the first event they try and get together and do at least 2 events a year usually a cream tea afternoon then a pre-Christmas party. The residents on the park usually book the local pub to arrange a little annual get together.

The park has been beautifully decorated and some residents have been creating red, white and blue Pom Poms and one lady on park has made extra effort and taken time to hand paint each and every resident a beautiful pebble to put in their garden to remember the fabulous day they are going to have. I have personally helped many young children over the years to learn to read and still continues to do so, especially after the pandemic as it has put strain on so many things and especially on children’s education. Many years ago when I was a primary school teacher I heard of a local coast guard station was planning a special opening ceremony and Princess Anne was going to attend the

opening. So the school arranged for a few colleagues and me to take the children to possibly get a glimpse of the princess. Princess Anne was exceptionally friendly, she took time to speak to me and all the children Honestly, she was just so normal and genuinely happy to be there – it was a refreshing experience meeting her. Our area has been visited by many royals over the years. The Queen had actually sailed on the Britannia and I had arranged for all of our school children to create flags to wave to the queen as she sailed past, the day was quite

foggy so even though we didn’t manage to see her but we sure saw the ship!

Whilst I was serving in the Royal air Force at RAF Wyton back in the early 90’s I had the pleasure of being part of the team of Chefs that fed both Prince Charles & Lady Diana. There was a team of about 20 chefs who catered for 50 dignitaries.As a thank you we were all invited into the dining room and Prince Charles gave us all a round of applauds which everyone joined in. My step daughter Rebecca Wright was chosen to present a Posey to the queen on a visit to Lincolnshire. We were all in a line and both Rebecca’s mum and myself were present. The queen took her time to speak to Rebecca and showed a genuine interest in her. What stood out more than anything was how immaculate the Queen was and also how small she is.

Vesper Martini-James Bond Every James Bond fan knows this recipe as the first martini that Bond ordered in Ian Fleming’s 1953 book, “Casino Royale” (or the 2006 movie). Named after the seductive double agent Vesper Lynd, it is possibly the most famous drink order in history and extremely precise. Recreating the Vesper martini at home is easy, but it also requires interpretation. Ingredients 3 ounces gin 1 ounce vodka 1/2 ounce Lillet Blanc, or dry vermouth Lemon peel, for garnish Steps 1)Gather the ingredients. 2)In a cocktail shaker, combine gin, vodka, and Lillet Blanc or dry vermouth. 3) Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. 4)Garnish with a large piece of lemon peel.
